Microsoft has announced the arrival of several new titles to the Xbox Game Pass catalog starting in January 2026, with a lineup that includes standout games like Resident Evil Village and Star Wars Outlaws. This new update promises to further strengthen the service’s offering, which continues to gain followers among gamers. In total, 11 games have been revealed that will be available to subscribers throughout the month, providing options for various platforms, including Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

A juicy novelty

The titles will be available for different subscription levels, with Game Pass Premium and Game Pass Ultimate offering access to most of them. The arrival of Resident Evil Requiem generates renewed interest in Resident Evil Village, which will be playable starting January 20, while Star Wars Outlaws will offer a galactic experience from January 13. This selection includes games that are already available, such as Atomfall and Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition, allowing users to start enjoying new experiences immediately.

It is important to highlight that five games will leave the catalog on January 15. All of them are currently available with a 20% discount, which may encourage users to purchase them before they leave. This rotation of titles in Xbox Game Pass occurs in a context where players are constantly seeking new experiences, which in turn drives Microsoft to regularly renew its offerings every two weeks.

This strategy reinforces Microsoft’s commitment to its platform and to gamers, offering a steady stream of fresh content. With the arrival of these anticipated titles, the Xbox Game Pass service starts 2026 not only in its best form but also consolidating itself as a main option in the world of video games.

Ubisoft is in a complex situation in the current video game landscape. Although the company has released well-received games in recent years, it has also faced strong criticism because some of its productions, such as the highly anticipated Star Wars Outlaws, failed to meet player expectations. In a context where quality and content standards are higher than ever, Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, has expressed his concern about the growing criticism his company faces, which he has described as a “high” business risk factor.

They are bothered by being criticized for what they do wrong

During a recent meeting with investors, Guillemot emphasized that the impact of criticism can damage the company’s reputation, as it spreads through social media, distribution platforms, and specialized media, especially after strategic decisions or technical issues. “Ubisoft is exposed to risks of damage to its reputation as a result of online ‘bashing’,” he explained, emphasizing the new reality in which the perception of the video game industry as a cultural medium is influencing how users evaluate games.

This phenomenon has led to criticism focusing not only on gameplay and performance but also on ideological and social considerations, creating a complicated environment for publishers. Interestingly, Guillemot’s statements come at a time when Assassin’s Creed Shadows has reached 5 million players, after facing months of controversy in Japan. Looking ahead, Ubisoft seems ready to revolutionize the Assassin’s Creed series with the upcoming title known as Hexe, which promises an innovative approach to gameplay, although it has been mentioned that it may not be suitable for all players.

The creator of 'Star Wars Outlaws' believes that his game flopped because people are tired of the saga

Not long ago, in a galaxy very, very close… Ubisoft recently held its annual shareholders meeting, during which its CEO, Yves Guillemot, addressed both the successes and failures of the company. One of the highlights was the disappointing commercial reception of Star Wars Outlaws, a title that has been considered a quality game and received post-launch support, but did not meet the expected sales targets.

Did Not Feel the Force

Guillemot attributed the game’s poor performance to several factors, including market saturation of Star Wars content and general brand fatigue. The franchise has ramped up its releases, presenting multiple series in 2024, which, according to him, has led to less enthusiasm among fans. Additionally, Outlaws faced a lot of competition, especially from the acclaimed Jedi Survivor.

The CEO also acknowledged technical failures in the launch of Outlaws, which negatively affected its sales. However, he stated that these issues were resolved quickly and that they plan to launch an improved version for new consoles, such as the Switch 2.

In response to the drop in sales, Ubisoft decided to delay Assassin’s Creed Shadows to ensure that the game was polished before its release. Guillemot noted that the company learned from this experience, although it raises the question of why they hadn’t done it earlier, given their extensive time in the industry.

Finally, despite the criticism, Outlaws is still seen as a tribute to the saga and many fans hope to find it at more affordable prices during the sales. This case reflects how content saturation can overlook games that, despite being well-crafted, fail to capture attention in such a competitive market.

This is a significant turn for fans, who will soon be able to enjoy titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and Hogwarts Legacy on the new system, among many others that are on the way.

Ubisoft could go all in with Nintendo Switch 2

Ubisoft has been actively working on ports of several of its standout games for the Nintendo Switch 2. One of the most anticipated announcements is the release of Star Wars Outlaws, scheduled for September 4th. However, the company does not stop there; there have also been leaked hints that Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Rainbow Six Siege, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage could be on the list of future releases for the hybrid console.

Recently, Ubisoft Brazil caused a stir on social media by asking its followers which games they would like to see on the Switch 2, including direct mentions of Rainbow Six Siege and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Although there are no official confirmations regarding this, these games seem to be ready to make the leap to the new platform in the near future.

The Nintendo Switch 2 seems to have the capability to support demanding multiplayer games, which opens the door to the possibility of receiving traditional industry titles like Call of Duty. Rumors have emerged about the arrival of this popular shooter on the new console, especially after the announcement of the agreement between Microsoft and Nintendo, which could facilitate the incorporation of new titles from Activision Blizzard on the platform.

With the stage set for a robust library of games, Nintendo Switch 2 promises to deliver an enriching experience for players, marking a new era in the history of Nintendo consoles.

Could Assassin's Creed Shadows be delayed again? It's more likely than you think

Ubisoft has rescheduled the launch of its highly anticipated title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, several times, which is now set for March 18, 2025. The technical difficulties that accompanied previous launches, such as that of Star Wars Outlaws, have led the company to adopt a more cautious approach. The developers assure that the game is “practically done and finished,” which aims to minimize the possibility of further delays.

The Assassin’s Creed fan community has shown palpable enthusiasm for this new installment, especially after the success of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and the celebration that was Mirage, based on what was originally going to be a DLC. However, the shadow of the mistakes made by Ubisoft in the past has generated some anxiety. The recent failures, including the aforementioned failed launch of Star Wars Outlaws, have left a mark on their reputation, increasing the pressure on Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Although it is possible, it does not seem that it will happen

With the launch scheduled just a month away, the possibility of a new delay has drastically reduced. As the date approaches, marketing campaigns begin to activate, and changing the date at this point could be disastrous for bookings and the company’s image. Despite rumors of internal nervousness at Ubisoft, sources close to the matter claim that preparations are progressing smoothly, suggesting that, in principle, there should be no further delays.

Ubisoft is determined to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past, seeking to launch Assassin’s Creed Shadows in optimal conditions and without technical issues. The company hopes that this meticulous approach will help them not only avoid negative noise, but also ensure a solid commercial performance at launch, allowing players to enjoy the experience with the latest graphic technology.

Star Wars Outlaws has been a failure, but Ubisoft is optimistic about its future

Ubisoft has faced a significant challenge with the sales performance of its recent release, Star Wars Outlaws, which failed to meet expectations even during the anticipated holiday season. Star Wars Outlaws has been a failure, but Ubisoft is optimistic about its future

Ubisoft has faced a significant challenge with the sales performance of its recent release, Star Wars Outlaws, which failed to meet expectations even during the anticipated holiday season. Despite this setback, the game has managed to position itself as one of the most immersive experiences in the Star Wars universe, an achievement that can be attributed to the recent updates implemented by the company. Frederick Douguet, Ubisoft’s Chief Financial Officer, explained in the recent financial conference that, although the figures were not encouraging, they still see potential for conversion into a “long-term bestseller” through future updates.

A failure, yes, but not irreparable

Douguet indicated that, although the initial performance of Star Wars Outlaws was not as expected, there is considerable room for the game to generate additional revenue as more improvements are introduced. This approach recalls the late success of previous titles like Star Wars Jedi Survivor, suggesting that the key may lie in ongoing support and innovative updates that can attract a larger audience.

Additionally, Ubisoft is not stopping at Star Wars. The company is working on several major projects for the near future, including the highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Shadows and a series of “big plans” for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. Other promising titles were also mentioned, such as Anno 117: Pax Romana, and the positive performance of The Division – Resurgence on mobile platforms was highlighted.

With a restructuring in its development approach and a strong commitment to games as a service and action-adventure titles, Ubisoft is adapting to new market trends. However, a specific plan regarding the sales volume they expect to achieve with Star Wars Outlaws has not been finalized, leaving several speculations about future plans open. The company continues to bet on its growth despite the challenges.

The director of Star Wars Outlaws is hurt by the mediocre reviews (but promises to improve)

From some time ago, websites that compile reviews (such as Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes, or even Steam) have become places to directly harm content creators. The idea is that if we all complain at once about a trivial matter, the game studio will understand what they did wrong and, therefore, do us the small favor of completely changing their vision to please us. But that, although it may seem like it at first glance, is not exactly what is happening with Star Wars Outlaws.

A 5’3? They’re loving it

The fans are not complaining about anything specific but rather that the game has not met their expectations and has disappointed them in general. A user on Metacritic sums up part of the negative sentiment well by stating, “I don’t think anyone would buy this game, play it, or talk about it if it didn’t have the name Star Wars attached.” This is as harsh to read as it is real for many.

And it is that in Metacritic, the community score of Star Wars Outlaws (5.3) clashes head-on with that of professional critics (7.6). Interestingly, its creative director, Julian Gerighty, has only focused on the damage that professional scores have done to him, which for him are “a little disappointing,” as he has told Games Radar.

For some reason, ignoring the abysmal user rating, he has claimed “I am a little disappointed with Metacritic. Of course, press and critic recognition is very important to us, but players are really connecting with what we did.” But it’s not true: the game is selling quite poorly, and in fact, it alone has lowered Ubisoft’s stock prices.

Star Wars Outlaws has been in the works for four years and it’s normal to be proud of it, but seeing people talking about it doesn’t mean it’s a success. However, it might be in the near future, because its development is not over: “This will be a game that millions of people will play for years, and we will never stop improving it. Well, that’s a lie: we will probably stop improving it, but today my mind doesn’t want to stop doing it.” If Cyberpunk 2077 became a great game, any can.

Star Wars Outlaws will expand its story after its release

In what remains of 2024, there is no title that has as much traction as Star Wars Outlaws. The new Star Wars game is not only the most anticipated title for a large part of the audience, but it is also one of Ubisoft’s two biggest bets for the current fiscal year. That is why news about it is already starting to come out, given its release date is approaching.

In a blog post, Ubisoft has announced that Star Wars Outlaws will have a battle pass. For those who purchase the game on release day, they will be able to play an extra mission, The Gambit of Jabba. In this mission, you will have to form a team to pull off a massive heist to pay off a debt incurred with the legendary Jabba the Hutt years ago.

Regarding the battle pass, it has been confirmed that the game will have, at least, two story DLCs. The first one is called Wild Card, in which Kay, the game’s protagonist, will enter a Sabbac tournament, a card game from the Star Wars world, where she will meet Lando Calrissian. For the second DLC, A Pirate’s Fortune, you will have to face a group of pirates, helping the famous pirate Hondo Ohnaka. The first DLC will be released in autumn 2024 and the second one in spring 2025.

Both DLCs will also include various cosmetics for the game. As far as we know, these DLCs will only be available through the purchase of the battle pass, and cannot be purchased separately.

Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30th for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 5, and PC. If you purchase the Gold Edition of the game, you will also have access to the game’s battle pass and will be able to start playing three days earlier, on August 27th. Similarly, if you are a Ubisoft+ Premium subscriber, you will have all the benefits of the Gold Edition as long as you remain subscribed to the service.
