Top 10 Episodes of The Simpsons

The Simpsons full series is available on Disney+! Here you can find our top 10 selection. Try the 7-day free trial and enjoy Disney+ movies and series.

30. There are no less than 30 seasons of The Simpsons available on the recently launched Disney+. That means hundreds and hundreds of episodes. We know your time is precious, and you probably want to watch quite a few things from the catalog of movies and series on this streaming platform, so here’s our ranking of the top 10 episodes of The Simpsons.

10. “The Mysterious Voyage of Homer” Season 8, Episode 9

After bingeing on chili peppers, Homer takes a delusional trip to a sort of spiritual plane where he’ll discover that Marge may not be his soulmate.

“The Mysterious Voyage of Homer” is a must-see episode for many reasons. On an artistic level, no other episode is so surrealist and masterful. Then we have a great guest star: Johnny Cash as the “Space Coyote.” Oh, and fun moments like Homer eating the mega-hot insanity peppers, or Lisa mistaking her father’s silhouette, illuminated in the skies, for a Batman who has really let himself go. But the highlight of the episode is that it’s still one of the best studies of the relationship between Homer and Marge, which inevitably makes it timeless.

9. “Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy,” Season 5, Episode 14

This is an episode that could premiere as-is today, and we would still find it current: Lisa, the liberal outcast of the family, realizes the sexualized image that her favorite doll, Stacy Malibu, transmits to girls her age and decides to lash out at its creators It’s an outright criticism of how consumerism damages our society, and a prophecy of the awakening we had a few years ago regarding the products we purchase and what they instill in us without realizing it.

In this episode, we also discover a hidden facet of Smithers, and Kathleen Turner plays the doll’s original creator. As is often the case with Lisa’s episodes, the ending is bittersweet, and reminds us that victories don’t always have to be epic or overwhelmingly certain.

8. “You Only Move Twice,” Season 8, Episode 2

This episode, in which Homer and family move so he can work for a villain straight out of the James Bond movies, has one of the best supporting characters in the series: Hank Scorpio, half good boss, half hopeless megalomaniac. Interestingly, many of us remember Scorpio’s quotes even though he only appears in these 22 minutes.

Everything that happens in the episode is masterful. The secondary plots concerning the rest of the family, all unable to adapt to their new home, are short but extremely well done. The fact that Homer is the only one who doesn’t realize his boss is trying to take over the world is the icing on the cake. Too bad the idea of bringing Hank back as a villain in The Simpsons Movie was ultimately discarded – we miss him!

7. “Last Exit to Springfield,” Season 4, Episode 17

A great episode that reminded us that, behind the crazy adventures that the Simpsons usually have, there is a human family with human problems. When Burns eliminates his workers’ dental plan and it impacts Lisa, Homer moves heaven and earth to recover his insurance. Many episodes have more outlandish objectives, so finding such a mundane conflict takes us by surprise.

Homer’s journey as the leader of a workers’ strike is full of great moments, like Lisa’s song to rally the protestors, and in general, Burns’ great role as the villain.

6. “Cape Feare,” Season 5, Episode 2

After Sideshow Bob sends Bart death threats, the Simpsons are forced to join the Witness Protection Program and take on a new identity at Terror Lake.

“Cape Feare” is not only the best episode for Sideshow Bob, but virtually every moment in it would rank among the top 50 scenes in the series: Homer’s inability to accept his new identity as Mr. Thompson, Bob’s moment dealing with the rakes, the sequence of musical numbers from H.M.S. Pinafore… We love everything about it.

5. “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” (Part One and Part Two), Seasons 6/7, Episodes 25/1 (respectively)

We’re cheating a bit and including two episodes under one heading. But it’s well-deserved this time: “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” is the only non-standalone story in the series. Part One was aired as the Season 6 finale, and everyone spent the whole summer wondering who the murderer was. The answer came in the first episode of Season 7.

Aside from this suspenseful trick, these two episodes are a delight precisely because they masterfully parody other murder and mystery series. There are twists upon twists. False clues that pile up disproportionately. All kinds of suspects. Another highlight is the great dream scene in which Chief Wiggum receives a clue in the style of Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks.

4. “Lisa’s Substitute,” Season 2, Episode 19

There are many messages and themes under a seemingly simple premise: Lisa’s teacher is out sick, and the little girl falls in love with her substitute teacher. But if we dig a little deeper, we discover that the substitute actually refers to a new father figure Lisa has found, one she unfortunately discovers is much better than Homer.

Although it has its gags and jokes, this episode is more emotional than anything else, and it culminates with the note the teacher leaves for Lisa for when everything goes back to normal. Also, it was one of the first to give us a sad ending, something we weren’t really used to at the time.

3. “22 Short Films About Springfield,” Season 7, Episode 21

On paper, this episode shouldn’t have worked at all. It’s because we completely abandon the Simpsons (something that hasn’t happened before) to focus on the crazy adventures of its huge cast of supporting characters. Who wants to follow Semour, Cletus or Bumblebee Man? Well, after watching this episode, we are a lot fonder of the residents of Springfield, and in the end, we don’t miss Bart and company so much.

Each supporting character has a moment of glory or reveals an unknown facet of his or her life. But our favorite part has to be those incredible 90 seconds about “steamed hams,” a great scene. Seymour’s attempt to fix his lunch with Superintendent Chalmers is so good that a year or so ago, it became a huge meme online.  By the way, is that the aurora borealis behind you?

2. “One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish,” Season 2, Episode 11

Until this episode, the series made us think that its only purpose was to make us laugh, to give us a good time. “One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish” was unexpectedly sad, bittersweet, melancholic, and ultimately tenderhearted. And the premise did the job: Homer inadvertently eats the poisonous part of a fugu fish and has only 24 hours left to live.

Although we all know how it ends, this narrative excuse forces Homer to make a list of all the things he wants to do before he dies. He’ll say goodbye to many loved ones, and will unexpectedly feel a lot closer to them than when he wasn’t thinking of his mortality. Inevitably, this makes us wonder, what would happen if we all acted like Homer when he thought he didn’t have much time left? Maybe the world would be a better and kinder place.

1. “Marge vs. the Monorail,” Season 4, Episode 12

In this episode, a con man called Lyne Lanley comes to Springfield to sell the absurd idea of creating a monorail for the town. While Marge is the only sane person who is suspicious of Lanley’s motives, Homer is hired to be the monorail’s conductor. Add Leonard Nimoy as the guest star, and we have 22 delightfully fun minutes. But this adventure has more substance than it seems.

“Marge vs. the Monorail” was the first episode to break one of the golden rules of the first seasons of The Simpsons. Until then, screenwriters were prohibited from creating situations that strayed too far from reality, even though the series was animated. Conan O’Brien, a screenwriter at the time, broke this rule to create an episode that explores the absurd in the background and in which the residents of Springfield could break into song at any time. It established a new foundation for comedy that’s still alive today.

The 10 greatest Disney villain songs

Disney+ is now in Europe too! Try its 7-day free trial and subscribe to its magic.

Often, the most memorable characters in Disney movies are their villains. Despite being the bad guys, they are always extremely charismatic, and we can even come to understand them… sometimes.

Also, many are known for more than their appearance or evil deeds: some have given truly superb musical performances. So, today we’re going to review the 10 best Disney songs sung by antiheroes.

And if this article inspires you to rewatch the movies starring those villains, you can find the whole collection on Disney+. Disney’s streaming platform is already available in Europe (specifically: Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Ireland). You can take advantage of the 7-day free trial period (plenty of time to watch the movies on this list), and among its special features, you can use it on up to 10 devices.

10. “Mine, Mine, Mine,” Governor John Ratcliffe in Pocahontas

Although Pocahontas has iconic songs like “Colors of the Wind,” sung by the protagonist, we can’t forget the melody of its villain (voiced in the original version by David Ogden Stiers). It’s the perfect number to introduce the bad guy of the movie. “Mine” has a double meaning: it refers to working in the mine, which his employees do to extract resources from the New World, but also to his selfishness.

Never before has a song so thoroughly defined a character’s greed. Radcliffe, an unscrupulous man, arrives in unexplored territory (which we now know as America) to exploit it without measure or consideration, destroying everything in his path. Luckily, the good guys always win at Disney.

9. “Mother Knows Best,” Mother Gothel in Tangled

The funny thing about this song is that, when we first hear it, we don’t know a villain is singing it. Because at first, Gothel (Donna Murphy) is Rapunzel’s protective mother who, in the song that concerns us, is apparently worried about the dangers of the outside world – all she wants to do is protect her daughter.

Apparently… but in fact, “Mother Knows Best” isn’t just about overprotectiveness: it’s the song a villain sings to the girl she kidnapped as a baby, whom she prevents from leaving the tower so she doesn’t learn the terrible truth about her past. Never before has such a sweet tune hidden so much evil.

8. “Be Prepared,” Scar in The Lion King

Although “Hakuna Matata” is quite the hymn, The Lion King has other great songs worth remembering. One of them stars Scar (voiced by the great Jeremy Irons), who makes a whole declaration of intent by singing “Be Prepared;” in other words, get ready for what’s coming when I’m king of the jungle.

“Be Prepared” is not only great from the musical perspective. Visually, it’s also quite genius: with his loyal hyenas as extras, we’ll see how Scar imagines the dictatorial regime that is about to begin. Furthermore, the bold colors in the scene, very different from those of the Mufasa or Simba scenes, confirm that what’s to come is a reign of terror.

7. “Oogie Boogie’s Song,” Oogie Boogie in The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas, one of the movies from the Tim Burton universe, is also a Disney production. So its villain song obviously deserved a place on our list.

Oogie Boogie, is a burlap sack villain who won’t hesitate to ruin Christmas by kidnapping Santa Claus. But instead of just behaving like the classic villain with evil laughter, he decides to torture him while singing a song (performed by Ken Page), pure jazz composed by Danny Elfman. It’s a cool theme song that slightly reminds us of the next villain on our list.

6. “Friends on the Other Side,” Dr. Facilier in The Princess and the Frog

And it’s about jazz: The Princess and the Frog is Disney’s foray into New Orleans of the early 20th century, when jazz was all the rage. All the characters in the movie sing in this musical style, including its villain, Dr. Facilier (voiced by Keith David).

In his star song, he talks about his “friends on the other side” who allow him to be evil sorcerer who will change the lives of Tiana and Prince Naveen. But it turns out playing with spirits isn’t always a good idea, since they won’t hesitate to drag you into their world of shadows…

5. “Hellfire,” Cardinal Frollo in The Hunchback of Notre Dam

One of the most fearsome and ghoulish Disney villains is Cardinal Frollo (Tony Jay), and it’s because we can imagine a person like that existing in real life. The cardinal of the Cathedral of Notre Dame is a person without skills or powers beyond the intelligence he uses to do evil. Is there anything more terrifying than that?

In the song Frollo sings in the film, he reveals all his contradictions: on the one hand, his devout Christian sentiment (accompanied by the religious choir in the basilica), and on the other, his desire for Esmeralda, the heroine whose death he wishes for if he cannot have her. If we had any doubts about Frollo being evil, they dissipate with this song, a melody with truly dark and adult themes to be from Disney.

4. “I Wanna Be Like You,” King Louie in The Jungle Book

Although the main villain in The Jungle Book is the tiger Shere Khan, he can’t boast of something: having one of the most famous Disney villain songs, so much that we’d be surprised if you’d never hummed it before. Yes, we’re talking about the great swing song “I Wanna Be Like You” starring the monkey King Louie (played by Louis Prima, famous trumpeter and jazz singer).

But don’t be fooled by this primate’s friendly appearance or cheerful tune: Louie is a selfish character who only cares about his own interests, and he wants Mogwli to give him fire to do his misdeeds.

Below is the original version of the theme, but actually, the version in the film’s live-action remake isn’t bad either: Louie is a much more threatening giant gorilla voiced by a first-rate actor, Christopher Walken.

3. “I Put a Spell on You,” Winnie Sanderson and her sisters in Hocus Pocus

Our list needed a real-image film, so we went with Hocus Pocus. In addition to being one of the most underrated Disney classics, it has some of the best villains: the Sanderson sisters, three witches who are as evil as they are funny.

In this scene, the eldest of the sisters, Winnie (the great Bette Midler), performs the classic R&B track “I Put a Spell on You.” Since they are at a costume party, no one (except the main characters) suspects that what she’s saying is true. Although she’s the lead singer, the eldest is always accompanied by her two sisters, Mary and Sarah (Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker).

2. “Gaston,” Lefou and Gaston in Beauty and the Beast

If there’s a Disney song capable of lifting your spirits in just a few notes, it would have to be “Gaston.” The best musical composition from Beauty and the Beast, it is a joyous melody in true Broadway style, with fun lyrics and the excellent voices of Richard White and Jesse Corti as Gaston and Lefou, respectively. Yes, they are villains, but at this point in the film, they are still endearing villains (we will have the rest of the film to discover that Gaston is the worst).

Although we picked the animated sequence for our ranking, the film’s live action remake has a good version too. Luke Evans and Josh Gad are great as Lefou and Gaston!

1. “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” Ursula in The Little Mermaid

Last but certainly not least, we have one of the most misunderstood villains of the Disney universe: Ursula! Okay, she stole Ariel’s voice and played dirty with it, but… hadn’t the little mermaid signed a contract with those terms? Before you sign anything, it’s always a good idea to read the fine print or, in this case, listen closely to the song the villain sings you.

Soon we’ll get a live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, and Ursula, voiced in the original by Pat Carroll, will be played by actress Melissa McCarthy. Will she do justice to such a legendary character?

Bonus Track: “Cruella de Vil” in 101 Dalmatians

We added this song as a bonus track, because although it’s about a villain, it’s not sung by her: it is Roger Radcliffe (Ben Wright), the human hero of the story, who tells his wife Anita and the viewers about Cruella de Vil, who is about to enter his house.

Never before has such a beautiful song said such ugly things about a person (and the song’s lyrics barely begin to describe Cruella’s evil).

10 incredible series you can watch now on Disney+

10 incredible series you can watch now on Disney+

Starting March 24, 2020, Disney+ will be available in Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Ireland. Through this streaming service, you’ll have access to lots of series from franchises such as Disney, Marvel and Star Wars. Here are our top picks, the shows you simply must watch as soon as you subscribe!

1. The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian is the most surprising and exciting project from the Star Wars franchise in recent years. In this first season of eight episodes, you’ll embark on a mission with a stoic bounty hunter across the Outer Rim, an unusual place straight out of a Western movie.
Pedro Pascal plays the title character in a stellar cast including Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Taika Waititi and Giancarlo Esposito. Behind the cameras, we find impressive credentials: of course, we have Jon Favreau as creator/producer/go-to guy, but also Deborah Chow (future showrunner of the Kenobi series), Dave Filoni…

2. Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7

The cool animated series The Clone Wars never had a finale. Season 5 ended just as Ahsoka, Anakin’s Padawan, was leaving the Jedi Order. We had a few “missing episodes,” but they didn’t offer any closure. At last, Season 7 is here with the mission of tying up the stories that catapulted this series to excellence.
The great thing about The Clone Wars was it gave us a chance to get to know the two great protagonists of the prequels. The series adds layers of complexity to Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (James Arnold Taylor). We also have the rebellious Ahsoka Tano, Anakin’s apprentice who will gradually lose her faith in the Jedi.

3. The Simpsons

Does TV’s most famous family need an introduction? Whether you’re a fan of the classic seasons or a devourer of the episodes of the new era, hours and hours of entertainment are guaranteed by Homer, Bart, Marge and the rest of the residents of Springfield.
In addition to the main cast, The Simpsons stands out for its extensive list of guest stars. Patrick Stewart, Mark Hamill, Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer and many others have made Homer and co.’s lives even more interesting.

4. The World According to Jeff Goldblum

The World According to Jeff Goldblum is a documentary series in which the charismatic actor explores ordinary yet interesting topics as ice cream, tattoos and even video games. On the one hand, we have the professional, polished format of a National Geographic production, and on the other, “Mr. Wizard” taking on quirky challenges such as trying to create his own flavor of ice cream.
As its title suggests, this documentary series stars Goldblum, who embraces his eccentricity in a sort of self-parody, to the point of getting excited over things as mundane as the flight of a fly.

5. Forky Asks a Question

Forky, the funny fork who debuted in Toy Story 4, will tackle major themes of humanity with simple yet compelling questions, such as “What is time?”, “What is art?” and… “What is cheese?”
Tony Hale reprises his role as Forky. Other returning toys in the franchise include Rex (Wallace Shawn), Hamm (John Ratzenberger) and Trixie (Kristeen Schaal).

6. The Imagineering Story

The Imagineering Story is a documentary series exploring some of the feats of the Imagineers, the group of engineers, architects, screenwriters and programmers behind the Disney theme parks. We’ll hear stories and anecdotes about the birth of Disneyland and some key attractions such as the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean and Space Mountain.
Angela Basset, an actress known for her incredible performance as Tina Turner, narrates the series. Each episode includes interviews with different members, past and present, of the Imagineers…

7. DuckTales

Here are two recommendations for the price of one: on Disney+, you’ll find both the original ’80s DuckTales series and its cool modern reboot with David Tennant voicing Scrooge McDuck. No matter which format you choose, dozens of adventures starring the world’s richest duck and his mischievous nephews await you.
In the original series, comedian Alan Young voiced Scrooge McDuck, bringing this character to life for almost 30 years. In the new version, British actor David Tennant, known for playing Dr. Who and the tormented Alec Hardy on Broadchurch, is the perfect choice for his successor.

8. Gravity Falls

Gravity Falls es una serie de culto para todas las edades. Detrás de los casos paranormales y de los monstruos que se esconden en el pueblo de Gravity Falls, Gravity Falls is a cult series for all ages. Beyond the paranormal mysteries and monsters hiding in the town of Gravity Falls, we find stories of the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Older viewers will enjoy the complex background that is revealed episode by episode as well as perfectly constructed characters.
Actors Jason Ritter and Kristen Schaal star as Dipper and Mabel Pines, twins who investigate mysteries in Gravity Falls. Alex Hirsch has won BAFTA awards for his portrayal of Grunkle Stan, the twins’ great-uncle.

9. X-Men

The ’90s were a decade full of great animated series starring Marvel heroes, but if we had to pick a favorite, hands down it would be X-Men. Not only does it have great characters (the series has arguably the best portrayal of Jubilee) and complex stories, but it also does a fantastic job of adapting major arcs from the comics in just a few episodes. The characters in the series included Professor X, Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Gray, Rogue, Gambit, Storm, Beast and the abovementioned Jubilation. As villains, the Brotherhood of Mutants steals the show, with Magneto, Mystic, Avalanche, Pyro and Blob.

10.Gargoyles

Disney’s great cult series is back, and you can relive it if you’re a fan or discover its cool, dark stories if you haven’t seen it yet. Gargoyles of the past awaken in modern-day New York, where they must face both technological and supernatural threats.
Along with the Gargoyles, whose leader Goliath is the main character, the series features a large cast of villains. One of the main bad guys is Xanatos, whose schemes anticipate so many variables and consequences that he earned his own TV trope, “Xanatos Gambit,” a term for evil plans that are highly complex and elaborate.

10 classic underrated and forgotten Disney movies that will be available on Disney+

10 classic underrated and forgotten Disney movies that will be available on Disney+

Disney+ is here! We’re sure you already have a list of favorite Disney movies you’d love to rewatch. But one of the advantages of this streaming service is the chance to enjoy (sadly) forgotten classics from the world of Disney. Here are 10 underrated gems to add to your list.

1. Bedknobs and Broomsticks

After the success of Mary Poppins, Disney decided to produce a similar movie, that is, one with scenes of real-life actors interacting with cartoon characters. The result is the charming Bedknobs and Broomsticks, an adventure whose incredible animated sequences and visual effects continue to amaze us. Especially noteworthy is the film’s climax, when Eglantine Price, the protagonist newbie witch (played by a young Angela Lansbury), will conjure up a very curious army to face a legion of Nazis. It also has catchy musical numbers such as “Portobello Road” and “The Beautiful Briny.”

2. The Great Mouse Detective

Many believe the Disney Renaissance began with The Little Mermaid, but that’s not entirely true. Three years earlier, The Great Mouse Detective already mixed most of the ingredients that would make Disney succeed in the ’90s: an agile script, a charismatic hero (who can resist the mouse version of Sherlock Holmes?), excellent animation and, of course, a great villain. The final battle, in and out of London’s iconic Big Ben, is still quite spectacular. It was also one of the pioneers in introducing computer animation.

3. The Great Muppet Caper

We all remember the endearing The Muppet Christmas Carol or The Muppets reboot from 2011, but The Great Muppet Caper has been largely forgotten. It was the film that launched the absurd, self-referential comedy style that now permeates everything related to the Muppets. In fact, the movie opens with a song that acknowledges it’s a movie (“Hey a Movie!”) and explains how Kermit the Frog and Fozzie will play two journalists who are identical twins. This moment sets the tone for the entire film! The adventure is full of misunderstandings, trickery and stellar actors like Monty Python’s John Cleese.

4. Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus was released in 1993 with limited success, but in recent years it has luckily become regarded as a cult classic. And for good reason: the film is the quintessential ’90s movie in which genres are mixed without a problem. It offers 96 minutes of horror, comedy, fantasy, suspense… as we follow a teenager, Max Dennison, who inadvertently resurrects the Sandersons, a trio of fearsome witches played by Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker.

5. Darby O’Gill and the Little People

Darby O’Gill and the Little People is a must-see movie for fans of old-fashioned special effects. The homemade kind, without computerized tweaking. The story of an Irishman who captures the king of the leprechauns and gets him to grant three wishes is the perfect excuse to deliver magical scenes with great special effects and editing.

6. Waking Sleeping Beauty

Here we’re breaking the rules a bit and recommending a documentary instead of a fiction film, but it’s well worth it. Waking Sleeping Beauty tells the story of how Walt Disney Feature Animation returned to the fore of entertainment after multiple box-office failures and productions that dragged on forever. Specifically, after the disaster that was The Black Cauldron, the situation was so dire that many analysts of the era believed Disney was finished. How did it go from that to The Little Mermaid, The Lion King or Aladdin? Watch the documentary to find out!

7. 10 razones para odiarte

10 Things I Hate About You is a modern-day adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew, one of William Shakespeare’s most popular comedies. In its day, the film’s romantic misunderstandings and hidden life lessons managed to resonate with the ’90s generation. What will happen when you watch it now? You may wonder why today’s teen romantic comedies can’t be as smart and mature as this one. And if that doesn’t convince you, you can always satisfy your curiosity by checking out a young Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Julia Stiles.

8. The Parent Trap (1961)

The title of The Parent Trap may bring to mind a movie from the late ’90s with Lindsay Lohan playing twins separated at birth, but we’re referring to the original ’60s film with Hailey Mills in the same role. The adventure is the same: twins who learn of each other’s existence at summer camp and then try to get their parents back together. But this version is better than its remake because it doesn’t consider itself a kids’ movie: it’s endearing without being cheesy and smart when it needs to be.

9. The Princess and the Frog

The Princess and the Frog was Disney’s last movie with traditional animation… because when it was released, it went largely unnoticed. And that’s a shame, because it’s an excellent remake of a classic tale, now set in New Orleans. Tiana is not only the first African-American Disney princess, but her strong, proactive personality makes her an excellent role model for the little ones in the house. Oh, and in case you were wondering: yes, the villain’s song lives up to expectations!

10. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is still one of Disney’s best live-action films thanks to its stunning special effects (the movie won an Oscar for them in 1955), its massive dose of adventure, James Mason’s portrayal of Captain Nemo and Kirk Douglas as whaler Ned Land. The adventure begins when a mysterious sea monster is sinking ships in the Pacific Ocean. An expedition sets out to discover if the beast exists, receiving help from Nemo and his iconic submarine, the Nautilus.

The top 10 Pixar movies

Now that Disney+ is here, we’re sure you already have a long list of movies you want to rewatch. To help you prioritize and remember, here’s our list of top 10 Pixar films. Enjoy!

10. Onward

The latest Pixar movie has earned a spot in our top 10 because of its combination of fantasy elements and incredibly realistic narrative roots that will thrill more than a few. Beyond its action scenes, chases, battles and dungeons, we find the story of two brothers who are unable to accept their father’s death, so they decide to bring him back with a spell that obviously goes wrong. Who hasn’t found themselves unable to move on with life after a tragic event?
Don’t forget Disney + subscribers will be able to watch Onward on the streaming platform starting April 3.
Keep in mind you’ll have a free 7-day trial period (more than enough time to watch your favorite Marvel movies), and you can use it on up to 10 devices, one of its special features.

9. Up

When we think of Up, the first thing that comes to mind are the tragic opening scenes and the incredible image of an old man’s house rising up into the sky. What many of us forget is the fantastic second half. True, it’s more formulaic than the first, but it serves to challenge many of grumpy Carl’s beliefs. By facing his childhood idol, Carl is forced to evolve and learn that despite all the tragedies that befall us, we always have reasons (and time!) to keep on living life as an adventure.

8. Wall-E

At a time when we believed Pixar had run out of innovation, Wall-E came along and silenced us. It was a tremendously ambitious and daring project in its day: the first half hour lacks a single line of dialogue, yet still manages to touch our hearts and make us smile… and let’s not forget that it tells a post-apocalyptic story in a subtle, intelligent way. In the second half, it’s more of a typical movie, but it also surprises us with a very Orwellian critique of the lazy capitalist society we have become.

7. The Incredibles

One of the best superhero movies of the past decade, The Incredibles is a real masterclass on how to construct a complex world in just two hours. The first hour focuses on the Parr family, their powers, and the post-superhero world they live in. The second hour shakes up the status quo with action and battles that, far from being superfluous, advance the relationships of the main characters. And obviously, it’s thoroughly entertaining for both adults and the little ones in the family.

6. Inside Out

It’s one of Pixar’s smartest movies, and the reasons are twofold. On the one hand, for its portrayal of the complex, abstract world of emotions and the importance of them all. And on the other, for getting its message across in a great way: with two adorable protagonists, Joy and Sadness, who need to return to their command center before their owner, a girl on the cusp of adolescence, gets overwhelmed by the changes in her everyday life. To get there, Joy and Sadness will travel across her mind and discover a series of places and allies.

5. Ratatouille

Ratatouille is a movie about art. Yes, yes, we know the plot centers on a rat that’s actually the best chef in all of Paris, who controls a human from inside his hat and so on. But beyond that, we find notions about what art is, what it means to create, and how important it is to connect with the hearts and souls of those around us.

4. Finding Nemo

The reason why Finding Nemo is such a moving film lies with its director, Andrew Stanton. The movie is the culmination of years of wanting to exorcise his guilty memories of having overprotected his son. Anyone who has been a parent or had a child in their care will identify so much with the main character, a nervous clownfish who must find his lost son with the help of a memory-impaired blue tang.

3. Coco

It’s no big secret that one of the main themes of Pixar movies is family. But Coco explores this subject in a radically different way: through magical realism (so typical and unique to Latin American art) and overflowing dreamlike animation, Coco tells the story of Miguel, a boy who will travel across the Land of the Dead to unravel the truth behind a family curse that stands in the way of his dream of becoming a guitarist.

2. Toy Story

Okay, the animation is really showing its age. But, 25 years after its premiere, the story and characters of Toy Story are still as fresh as they were the first day. And now that we’re a bit more mature, we can rewatch it with new eyes. We’ll discover it’s a very melancholic film; it all starts with Woody’s obsession with wanting to preserve the good old days. Reluctant to accept the changes that come along with the new toy Buzz, he’ll cause a whole series of disasters, action sequences, and laughter, lots of laughter.

1. Toy Story 2

When someone says, “sequels are never any good,” remind them of The Empire Strikes Back or Toy Story 2. Woody’s adventure in pursuit of his true identity far outshines the original story, partly because it plays a lot with metalanguage and because it dares to be both cynical and subtle. It also dares to reduce the number of songs to just one (but what a song, we sigh just remembering it!), and it was a groundbreaking Pixar movie for revealing that the villain had been posing as an ally.

The first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe consist of 23 movies, so it’s normal if you’ve forgotten about some of their greatest moments. Don’t worry: we’ll jog your memory with this rundown of Marvel’s best battles yet. Oh, and the order is completely random. We’re equally passionate about all 10 scenes!!

If you want to rewatch all the Marvel movies after reading this article, you can find the whole collection on Disney+. There’s a 7-day free trial period (plenty of time to watch your favorite Marvel movies), and you can enjoy it on up to 10 devices, among its special features.

1. The elevator fight

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a movie packed with great action sequences, but if we had to pick one, it would be the elevator fight. Why? Because the Cap has to face more than half a dozen Hydra agents in a closed space. The bad guys have magnetic handcuffs, electric stunning rods… and yet, Rogers manages to win. It’s a chaotic, creative battle, but it was directed so superbly that you don’t miss a single detail of the action.

Oh, and as a bonus, we have that incredible moment when the Cap then takes down a jet using nothing but his shield.

2. Yondu’s whistle

Yondu and his arrow, Yaka, star in one of the most creative jailbreaks in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. We see Yondu use his ability to the fullest extent: the arrow pierces walls, knocks over enemy spaceships and even manages to catch on fire. Also, the scene is impeccably directed: we have slow motion falls, a great moment when we follow the arrow’s path in the darkness… all seasoned with the catchy tune “Come a Little Bit Closer.”

3. The airport battle

This mega-battle in Captain America: Civil War was the first to faithfully recreate the masterful madness we see daily in Marvel comics. We have a ton of interactions and combos: Spider-Man steals Captain America’s shield, Wanda Maximoff buries Iron Man under a mountain of cars, Ant-Man turns into Giant-Man…

On a narrative level, you could cut the tension with a knife: we’re seeing a battle between former allies, people who were on the same team until a few weeks earlier. On that note, the tragic climax with the fall of War Machine and Tony Stark’s expression of grief is simply devastating.

4. Thor vs. Hulk: the rematch

Thor and Hulk have already come face-to-face in The Avengers, which makes this rematch more compelling. Our reason for picking this showdown instead of the previous one is the odd situation both characters find themselves in: Thor has lost his hammer, and Hulk has lost Banner’s reasoning. This generates interesting moments where we see Hulk use some cool weapons, or where Thor tries to imitate Natasha to soothe the green oaf.

5. Dr. Strange and Iron Man vs. Thanos

Avengers: Infinity War has one stellar battle after another. We chose this particular one because of the great feat these two heroes achieve in standing up to Thanos by themselves, even if it’s only for a few moments.

The Sorcerer Supreme’s duel with Thanos lasts less than a minute, but it’s the closest Marvel has come to anime. The Mad Titan throws a black hole at Strange, and he turns it into butterflies! Only Naruto is missing out here.

As for Iron Man vs. Thanos, which happens right after that, we see a deranged and desperate Tony Stark use his most violent methods to stop the great enemy. He becomes the only hero to injure Thanos so far, even if we’re only talking about a few drops of blood.

6. “Avengers, assemble!”

Is anyone surprised to find this scene on our list? We have no words to describe the magnificence of the climax of Avengers: Endgame. When everything seems lost, all the heroes and allies appear to defeat Thanos’ army. We have not only punches and blows, but old enemies coming together, conflicts resolved… and we find out what Strange meant when he said there was only one way to defeat Thanos.

7. Spider-Man recovers his spidey sense

We’ve chosen Spidey’s final battle against Mysterio for what that means for the character’s arc in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Parker is obviously discouraged after what happened in Endgame and doesn’t think he has what it takes to be a superhero in the new world. As a result, he loses his spidey sense and is deceived by Mysterio. It is at this moment in the movie that Spidey regains his trust in himself and proves capable of defeating any evildoer who tries to harm Earth.

8. Captain America and the Winter Soldier vs. Iron Man

Although it’s a scene packed with amazing choreography, movements and attacks, what kept us glued to our seats was its emotional aspect: with every punch thrown, laser shot and shield deployed, the relationship between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers breaks down a bit more. Its consequences have an impact on the rest of the Marvel movies, and many say it’s the reason why Thanos has an easy victory in Civil War. In short, there was a total rift between two great leaders of the Avengers.

9. Hulk vs. Hulkbuster

It’s our favorite battle from Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s rude and fun, and we think it has the most brutal blows of any Marvel battle scene. If you disagree, just remember the grand finale when Hulk and Hulkbuster fall off the top of a building under construction, completely destroying it.

10. The battle of New York

This was the first time in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we saw the Avengers working together as a team to overcome a great threat. The scene begins with the famous line, “that’s my secret, Captain: I’m always angry,” and continues with the famous circle shot showing the six members before escalating to the grand finale. Endgame, Civil War and Infinity War may have battles with more characters and special effects, but the battle of New York is still the one that thrills us the most.

Guide to Marvel Phase 4: Everything you need to know

From Blade to female Thor, Marvel revealed so much at Comic-Con!

Portman Thor

To say the MCU dropped a bomb at their Comic-Con panel this year would be an understatement. They dropped a nuke on the stage and then dropped a few smaller bombs while they were at it.

At the Comic-Con panel, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige along with an abundance of actors, actresses, and filmmakers gave us details on five Disney+ shows, five Phase 4 movies, and a few other projects.

There is a LOT to talk about. Once you’re done reading this article, let’s take the discussion to the comments section below to keep the conversation and the speculation going!

Guide to Marvel Phase 4

Phase 4

It is important to point out that although this is Marvel’s current complete line-up for Phase 4, Feige says things can change:

For example, as Phase 2 was ending in 2015, Marvel Studios acquired the rights to put Spider-Man in their films. Obviously, this changed up the future of Phase 3 quite significantly with Spider-Man appearing in five movies including two of his own.

The Disney+ shows

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Falcon and Winter Soldier

“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” will feature Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprising their roles. It is coming out in fall of 2020, and deals with the two character’s lives after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.”

Falcon has a new weight on his shoulders as he is now expected to take up the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers went back in time for that long-awaited dance.

Along with Stan and Mackie, Daniel Brühl will be returning to reprise his role as Baron Zemo. Zemo was the main villain in “Captain America: Civil War.” His family was killed during the events of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and since he didn’t fully get his revenge in “Civil War,” he may want to continue to dismantle the Avengers in “Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

Loki

During “Avengers: Endgame” the Loki of 2012 made a quick getaway by stealing the Space Stone. “Loki” for Disney+ will follow the God of Mischief as he makes his way through the universe.

Wait, didn’t Loki die?

Yes, he did die in “Avengers: Infinity War.” However, the show will be following an alternate timeline Loki. This Loki hasn’t gone through the character development Loki experienced in “Thor 2: The Dark World” and “Thor: Ragnarok,” so he is in need of redemption. Apparently, this Loki will be traveling throughout the universe with the Space Stone getting into loads of adventures along the way.

Hopefully, since he has an Infinity Stone, his path may cross with Thanos and we’ll get to see Josh Brolin’s return!

“Loki” will be released on Disney+ in Spring of 2021.

WandaVision

Both Scarlett Witch and Vision will return for new adventures in “WandaVision.”

Wait, isn’t Vision dead?

Yes, Thanos ripped the Mind Stone from Vision’s forehead.

However, as we have seen, the MCU is not afraid to bring people back from the dead. Just ask, Agent Coulson, Loki, and everyone that died in the Snap. We expect that Black Panther’s sister Shuri might be able to use her tech to bring him back, or Scarlet Witch will just magic him back from the dead.

Feige promised that characters will return in the show, including Monica Rambeau. Her character was in “Captain Marvel,” which took place in the ’90s. Now, she is a grown woman, and she’s ready to get into the action in “WandaVision.”

Events in the show are expected to lead into “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Also, Elizabeth Olsen will be playing Scarlet Witch in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” but more on that later.

“WandaVision” will be released on Disney+ in Spring of 2021.

What If

In the summer of 2021, Disney+ will feature the first animated endeavor in the MCU.

“What If” tackles alternative scenarios in the MCU. More specifically, it tackles “what if” situations. These are scenarios where things didn’t go the way they went in the MCU. They are named after the comics that bear the same name.

Most of the MCU alumni from the movies will return to voice their characters, but there is no official list of who will return. However, we do know that the following will be included:

  • Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger
  • Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier
  • Josh Brolin as Thanos
  • Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
  • Tom Hiddleston as Loki
  • Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor
  • Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter
  • Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther
  • Karen Gillan as Nebula
  • Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye
  • Paul Rudd as Ant-Man
  • Michael Douglas as Hank Pym
  • Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan
  • Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark
  • Sean Gunn as Kraglin
  • Natalie Portman as Jane Foster
  • Taika Waititi as Korg
  • Toby Jones as Arnim Zola
  • Djimon Hounsou as Korath
  • Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster
  • Michael Rooker as Yondu

Since they weren’t listed, we doubt Chris Evans will return as Captain America or Robert Downey Jr. will return as Iron Man for the first season. However, if they show does well, they might come back for a second season.

The show will also bring on Jeffrey Wright who will play the Watcher. The Watcher is a being in the Marvel universe who observes history unfold, but does not get involved. You might remember seeing several Watchers in “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2.”

Hawkeye

In the fall of 2021, Clint Barton will begin training Kate Bishop to become the newest bow-and-arrow-wielding master in “Hawkeye.”

Jeremy Renner and Kevin Feige remained pretty tight-lipped about this project. This is probably because it’s more than two years away and a lot can change.

However, we do know that the series will dive into Barton’s time as Ronin. Between “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame,” Barton began ridding the world of evildoers who survived Thanos’ snap. He did this under the guise of “Ronin.” It could be that the sins of Barton’s past may come back to haunt him.

The movies

Endgame

Black Widow

TaskMaster

It might seem a bit odd, but the MCU will kick off Phase 4 with a prequel.

Set during the events of Agent Romanoff’s famous Budapest mission, “Black Widow” will dive into the agent’s origins, her previous relationships, and the red in her ledger.

Fans at Comic-Con got to see a small teaser which Disney is adamantly trying to make sure stays off YouTube, but we did hear about what it showed:

Along with lots of awesome Black Widow stunts, the trailer showed Widow’s sister character Yelena as her relationship with Romanoff develops.

Finally, the trailer ended with a brief glimpse at another villain in the movie, which many fans speculate is Taskmaster. Taskmaster is a mercenary as well as a sort of supervillain coach. Basically, he is sometimes hired to help train people on how to be villains.

He’s basically Robbie Rotten meets The Punisher:

Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz will be playing Melina Vostokoff aka Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden is one of the classic villains in the Black Widow comics. Finally, David Harbour is joining the cast as Red Guardian, a Soviet superhero. Funny enough, Red Guardian’s real name is Alexei, which is the name of the Russian that Harbour’s character joins forces with in “Stranger Things.”

The Eternals

Eternals

If your Marvel knowledge is only confined to their most popular characters, then you;ve probably never heard about the Eternals.

Basically, they are ACTUALLY Earth’s mightiest heroes. The Eternals are immortal cosmic beings (basically, they’re aliens) that have godlike powers and abilities. Millions of years ago, Celestials (that’s the same species as Star-Lord’s dad) looked at early humanity and created two additional races. They created a disgusting, monstrous race called the Deviants. They also created the advanced Eternals.

We do not know much about the plot for the movie, but we do know several members of the film’s cast. This includes Salma Hayek who plays the leader of the Eternals, Ajak, and Angelina Jolie who will star as Thena.

One thing to point out is that Thanos himself was a member of the Eternals in the comics. It will be interesting to see if the MCU will dive into that plot point once the film comes out in November of 2020.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang Chi

Much like the Eternals, you’ve probably never heard about Shang-Chi.

Without question, he’s probably the least-known Marvel superhero to get a standalone MCU movie.

He’s a martial arts master who can also duplicate himself.

As you probably know, in “Iron Man 3” Ben Kingsley played a fake version of the villain the Mandarin. However, as you might not know, Marvel created a short called “All Hail the King,” where we learned that there is a real Mandarin who is not happy about what has happened to his name.

Thankfully, we are going to get to see the Mandarin in all of his glory as he graces the screen in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”

The Ten Rings is a terrorist organization who has been involved in the MCU since the start. They kidnapped Tony Stark, assisted Whiplash, and they even infiltrated Pym Laboratories!

Look at the neck tattoo on the guy with the beard. Does that emblem look familiar?

We don’t know who will be the next big bad guy in the MCU, but the Ten Rings and the Mandarin would be a phenomenal choice. The Mandarin’s mystic arts could create a new web of problems for the Avengers resulting in some great movies. Whether it’s a hit or a flop, we will find out in February of 2021.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange

I wonder if in those 14 million futures Doctor Strange saw, he saw his character going down this route.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will be Marvel’s first dive into the world of horror.

No, it will not be rated R. According to Feige, the movie will be rated PG-13.

Although we don’t know much about the movie, we do know that the events of “WandaVision” will lead into the movie. Also, Scarlet Witch herself will be a main character in the film. Whether or not Vision will make an appearance is yet to be known, however, if we get more awesome scenes like Strange’s fight with Thanos, we will be happy campers.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Finally, bringing Phase 4 to a close will be “Thor: Love and Thunder” in November of 2021.

Chris Hemsworth will be returning as the God of Thunder, and Tessa Thompson will be returning as Valkyrie. Speaking of whom, Marvel confirmed that Valkyrie will be the MCU’s first openly LGBTQ superhero!

The movie will take place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame” with Thor soul-searching for the next stage of his life. However, the next stage of his life might just be the end because a new Thor is set to make her debut.

Female Thor

That’s right, the female version of Thor will be featured in “Thor: Love and Thunder!” Even better, Natalie Portman will be reprising her role as Jane Foster who will wield the hammer and become the new Thor.

In the comics, Thor loses his powers and the ability to wield his hammer. However, a successor is deemed worthy as a new female character becomes the new Thor.

Clearly, Natalie Portman is worthy to wield the hammer. However, are you?

Other projects

Blade

At the end of the panel, Mahershala Ali surprised everyone by coming on stage. At the request of Feige, he donned a baseball cap with “Blade” written across it.

Wait, haven’t there already been a few Blade movies?

Between the late ’90s and the mid-2000s, Wesley Snipes starred in three Blade movies. Although they do have a few fans, they never really attained a huge audience, and they especially never made MCU money. However, the R rating in each film meant that we got lots of gore and lots of adult language.

WARNING: Video is NSFW

Blade is part-human and part-vampire, but he isn’t a fan of that second half of his DNA. He hunts down and kills vampires across the world.

Yes, vampires exist in the Marvel universe.

He uses a wide array of weapons including guns, anti-vampire gear, knives, and explosives. However, he is best known for fighting off vampires with a samurai sword.

The movie will not be a part of Phase 4, so don’t expect to see anything about it until 2022.

Pretty much none of us anticipated a new Blade movie, but now all anyone can think is how could we NOT want a new Blade movie. If the MCU FINALLY gives us a movie with an R rating, we will be overjoyed. (Remember R-rated “Deadpool” wasn’t a part of the official MCU until Disney acquired Fox earlier this year.)

Think about it. How can you give us a gory, vampire slasher that’s not rated R?

Untitled Fantastic Four movie

Although it was only for a second, we did hear from Feige that Marvel Studios is working on a Fantastic Four movie.

Wait, haven’t we had, like, a million Fantastic Four movies?

We have had three Fantastic Four movies and none of them has been very good. The movie “Fantastic Four” in 2015 with Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan is arguably one of the worst superhero movies ever made:

Hopefully, Disney and Marvel can do the Fantastic Four justice. It will all start with a great cast, so hopefully, Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm will finally get their due.

*cough *cough Cast John Krasinski as Reed Richards *cough *cough.

A Fantastic Four movie might mean that Doctor Doom is coming to the MCU. If he does, then we might just the next big villain to take the reins from Thanos.

Stuff we know is coming:

Although none of these got trailers, we did hear word that we will be getting the following sequels:

  • Captain Marvel 2
  • Black Panther 2
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3
  • A bunch more Spider-Man movies

The mutants and the X-Men are coming

Don’t worry, the X-Men were mentioned by Feige at Comic-Con.

The X-Men/mutants will be in the MCU in the future. We might not know where they will fit in, but we hope to hear more about them soon!

 Wrapping up

Wow, that was a LOT to cover.

From the Disney+ shows, to the array of new movies, we have so much to look forward to in the next two years. Right now, we are betting that “Thor: Love and Thunder” will be the best movie of the lot. However, we will be happy to be proven wrong!

Spotify update highlights Disney music

Everybody has a favorite Disney song!

Spotify Disney hub

Great news for Disney fans: Spotify just announced that it is teaming up with the movie studio powerhouse to create a brand-new Disney hub. The new hub will be a place where Spotify users can find all the songs from their favorite Disney movies. The new hub will include Disney songs as well as music and soundtracks from Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars movies. Yes, that means all the John Williams instrumentals will be there, too.

8

The Spotify blog post announcing the new Disney hub said, “Starting July 17, users… can search “Disney” on Spotify to find a designated hub for the music behind some of their favorite Disney movies and TV shows. Stream playlists full of everything from The Little Mermaid to modern favorites like Frozen.” The service will also include playlists curated for all times of the day and many different activities. No matter if you’re in the shower, on the road, or trying to get some sleep you can now find a Disney playlist on Spotify for your exact situation.

The move seems to make Spotify a much more family-oriented platform and could see a spate of family-based subscriptions taken out over the summer. A premium membership costs $9.99 in the U.S., but a family membership, which gives up to six people access to Spotify’s premium features costs $14.99.

The Spotify family account offers individual accounts for up to six people

One of Spotify’s best features is its Discover Weekly feature, which serves up recommended songs based on what you’ve been listening to. This means the new Disney hub could put pressure on mom and dad to get the kids a profile of their own if they don’t want songs from “The Little Mermaid” skewing their personal algorithm.

Everybody has a favorite Disney song!

Spotify’s new Disney hub is now available to users in the U.S., UK, Ireland, South Africa, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. You can find it simply by typing “Disney” into the Spotify search bar. Here’s what comes up when you do:

Disney Spotify hub

Scroll down a bit, and you’ll even find a playlist called “Disneynature Soundscapes: Oceans,” which provides some super-relaxing white noise to help you unwind.

Disneynature Soundscapes: OceanTo see some other playlist examples, you can check out the Spotify press release announcing the feature here. As well as everything you can see there now, Disney promises to keep adding to the hub throughout the summer and beyond. With big some big Disney hitters like “The Lion King” and “Frozen 2” on the way, that is not to be sniffed at.

This is big news for our family as we’ve developed a bit of a Christmas tradition involving Disney songs and lots of singing along. It isn’t just drunken karaoke Disney Princess wannabes though, who’ll be happy about this move. Anybody who has ever watched a Disney movie will love it because the music is half of the magic when it comes to Disney movies, and it’s magic we’ve all grown up with.
