Gearbox Software has presented the first impressions of Borderlands 4, a looter shooter that aims to redefine the experience of its predecessors and attract millions of players. The developer has promised that this new installment will significantly improve the endgame, addressing one of the most frequent criticisms that Borderlands 3 received. Creative director, Graeme Timmins, emphasized in a recent interview that the team has implemented the community’s needs from the very beginning of the game’s design, ensuring that changes in the skill tree anticipate the introduction of future content.
A very particular decision
A notable transformation in Borderlands 4 will be its narrative. Unlike previous installments that focused on exaggerated humor and surreal situations, this time the plot will have a more serious tone, which could attract a broader audience. Timmins has also committed to providing the best post-campaign experience in the franchise, learning from the lessons of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and its main games to offer an optimized endgame.
Among the features that fans will recognize is the inclusion of a minimap, an essential tool that has been present throughout the series, which could facilitate the exploration of the vast universe of Borderlands 4. Additionally, Gearbox has revealed ambitious plans for downloadable content, with expectations that these will be as expansive as those released for Borderlands 3.
Developers assure that they have paid special attention to player feedback for the evolution of this new title. Although Borderlands 4 is expected to generate a positive response, it remains to be seen how these promises shape up in practice. Fans will get a first look to assess whether Gearbox meets their expectations on September 12.
