Hytale, the ambitious open-world game that promises a Minecraft-like experience, has changed hands once again. Simon Collins-Laflamme, the original owner, has reacquired the rights to the project after its cancellation by Riot Games, giving new hope to a community that has been eagerly awaiting the game’s release since its viral trailer in 2018.

They confirm that the first impression is not going to be the best

The latest news indicates that Hytale will launch in Early Access on January 13, 2026, for PC. However, Collins-Laflamme has been honest about the state of the game, warning that it is still “incomplete and broken.” In a communication to players, he emphasized that “the first impression will be difficult” and that the current elements of the game are outdated, as the team has decided to revert to a version from four years ago to continue development. Collins-Laflamme stressed that the game “is not good” in its current state, but promised a commitment to turn it into the experience they always wanted to offer.

The developer’s marketing approach has been considered unusual. Instead of encouraging players to pre-order the game, it has emphasized that those who do not feel comfortable doing so should refrain. This honest and transparent approach has been well received, especially since 60 playtesters have given their approval, indicating that while there is progress, there is still a long way to go.

The Collins-Laflamme strategy of keeping expectations low could prove beneficial. By openly acknowledging the current imperfections of the game, an atmosphere of understanding is created among the players. If the initial launch turns out better than expected, the community could welcome it positively. However, time will tell if this bold communication strategy pays off once Hytale is finally available in Early Access.

After a rollercoaster of emotions, Hytale, the ambitious project from Hypixel Studios that had been canceled, has come back to life just four months after its abrupt ending. This revival is due to the reunion of its original directors, who have reaffirmed their commitment to developing a game focused on the modding experience. In a recent statement, the studio emphasized that modding will be a fundamental pillar in the evolution of Hytale, turning players into co-creators of the game.

An absolutely massive game

The vision of Hypixel Studios for Hytale revolves around the idea that players should be able to modify everything from blocks and items to NPCs and world generation systems. As they stated in their recent post, “we developed Hytale with modding at its core,” which means that content creators will have access to the same tools as the developers to modify and expand the game.

In addition, the study has launched a limited set of tools that are already available to users, allowing them to experiment with the possibilities of the game while it is still in development. This strategy aims to foster ongoing collaboration between the development team and the community, inviting users to join the initial phase of the process, where they can contribute to the shape that modding will take in Hytale.

The new owners of Hytale have clearly stated their intention to involve players in the development and mod creation process. This openness could be defined as a new chapter in the history of Hytale, where community feedback will not only be welcomed but essential in shaping the future of the game. Thus, Hytale could not only become a recognized title but also a dynamic platform driven by its own players.

The return of Hytale, one of the most anticipated projects in the gaming world, has been confirmed for 2025 under the direct control of Hypixel Studios, who have rehired dozens of employees who had been previously laid off. This revival represents a ray of hope for both developers and players who have been eagerly awaiting the release of the open-world game inspired by Minecraft.

Goodbye to Riot Games

In an unprecedented move, Hypixel Studios released a 16-minute gameplay video on its official YouTube channel, marking a milestone in development transparency. This video, recorded in a single morning, showcases an early version of the game that allows users to glimpse its current state and the combat mechanics that are expected to be presented. Despite the imperfections, the developers emphasize that Hytale will have a more advanced approach than Minecraft, with a variety of weapons and a story mode planned for its official release.

The creatives behind Hytale have emphasized the importance of having realistic expectations. In a clear message, they communicated that many of the previously announced features and minigames will not be available in early access, making it clear that players should be prepared for an early access experience full of bugs and challenges. The Hypixel Studios team is committed to collaborating with the community to improve the game as they progress in its development.

The creator of Hytale has shared his satisfaction in returning to the project and working with a talented team, stating that his happiness comes from the game creation process. This renewed passion and commitment add to the growing anticipation for a title that could change the sandbox scene in video games, once it finally hits the market.

The Minecraft-style game from Riot Games is revived, although it is no longer a game from Riot Games

The uncertainty surrounding Hytale has come to an end. Hypixel has acquired the game from Riot Games, ensuring that the project, which had suffered a temporary cancellation, will continue its development. Simon Collins-Laflamme, founder of Hypixel, announced this good news through a statement published on the official website of the video game, which has recently been reactivated.

Hytale achieves its independence

The launch of Hytale will take place in early access format, with an incomplete version that will include a sandbox mode, creative mode, and mod support. Although specific details about the release date will be announced in the coming days, it has been indicated that this early access will last for several years, while Hypixel works on building the game alongside the community.

To achieve this goal, the study has rehired 30 developers and has decided to return to the original game engine. This decision comes after, under the direction of Riot Games, the project attempted to transition to a new platform that complicated its development and resulted in years of stagnation. Collins-Laflamme has stated that this new direction will facilitate the focus on creating the game, although it will delay a future console version.

The responsible parties are aware of the risks of launching an incomplete product and have called for community collaboration to help build content, report bugs, and provide feedback. “Without risk, there is no Hytale,” emphasized Collins-Laflamme, who, along with his partner Philippe Touchette, has committed to funding the game’s development for a decade, ensuring that there is no rush to reach the final version.

With Riot Games’ exit from the project, Hytale is entering a new chapter and players can expect a renewed focus on its development. It remains to be seen how these promises will materialize and how the community will react to the early access launch.

The gaming community has been shaken by the recent cancellation of Hytale, a title developed by Riot Games that had been popularly referred to as “the Minecraft of Riot Games“. Despite its potential, Hytale never managed to make significant progress in its development, leading to the final decision to halt its production, with no plans for resurrection in sight.

Vandals on Reddit!

However, the fervent followers of the game are not willing to give up. Through social media, they have launched energetic campaigns to request the return of Hytale. Using the Wplace platform, inspired by the well-known concept of Reddit Place, fans have created a giant artwork that highlights the hashtag #SaveHytale. This virtual canvas has been used to express a series of protest rights, even painting “over” the main offices of Riot Games in Santa Monica, California, where some of the most visible demonstrations have taken place.

Wplace has gained popularity in recent days, allowing users to paint pixels on an interactive map, which has fostered creativity and collective collaboration. This dynamic has allowed players to express their discontent artistically, while several works within Wplace reference other popular titles, such as Pokémon and Undertale.

Despite the outcry from users, Riot Games has not made any official comments about the future of Hytale. On the other hand, one of the developers who left the project in 2019 has expressed his desire to revive it, stating that he is willing to invest money, time, and effort into this endeavor. However, he has admitted that the chances of achieving this are “almost impossible,” which does not prevent the community from continuing to fight for the resurrection of the title.

Riot Games has decided to cancel the development of Hytale, a sandbox RPG inspired by Minecraft, which has sparked intense discussions about the possible resurrection of this project. Originally developed by Hypixel Studios, Hytale seemed to be progressing well until Riot, after five years of development without the expected progress, chose to abandon the project.

Eric Barone throws his hat into the ring

Simon Collins-Laflamme, founder of Hypixel Studios, has expressed his commitment to exploring the possibilities of reviving Hytale and has been in contact with Riot to discuss the available options. This interest rekindles the conversation about the future of the game at a time when the gaming community is enthusiastic about the possibility of a return.

An unexpected twist in this narrative came from Eric Barone, creator of Stardew Valley, who expressed his interest in Hytale through a message on Discord. Although Barone was open to learning more about the project, he clarified that he is not actively working on it, as his main focus is to finish his new game, Haunted Chocolatier. In a recent communication, he emphasized that he is completely absorbed in his upcoming release and that any potential collaboration on Hytale is not a priority on his current agenda.

However, the community has not stopped dreaming of a collaboration between Barone and Collins-Laflamme, even though the latter continues to move forward with his plan to revive Hytale. The situation becomes intriguing, as Barone, although curious, does not want to raise expectations about his involvement, being cautious given the previous development history that ended in cancellation. As time goes by, fans remain on the lookout for any announcement that could breathe new life into this ambitious project.
