We have a new Anime: and it is coming from the director of Jujutsu Kaisen

The director of Jujutsu Kaisen and The God of High School doesn’t stop and premieres his new original anime, a ninja revenge story in the style of John Wick.

Although anime is Japanese, that doesn’t mean that interest outside of Japan is increasing. In the US, they are increasingly encouraged to finance animes produced with the intention of being broadcasted first in their lands, knowing that certain ideas can work particularly well in the West. That is exactly what has happened with Ninja Kamui, the new project by Sunghoo Park.

You may not recognize the name, but it’s impossible that you don’t know the animes he has made before. Sunghoo Park is the director of Jujutsu Kaisen and The God of High School, who now has his own animation studio, E&H Production, which is in charge of the production of the series along with Sola Entertainment. The series will premiere on February 10th on the Tsoonami block of Adult Swim, and will be released worldwide the next day on Max.

As shown in its first trailer, the anime promises action in abundance and a revenge story not very different from that of John Wick. Here we have a man named Joe Higan, a nuekin – a ninja who has abandoned his clan – who is forced to return to the world of shadow assassins when his former clan kills his family and mistakenly believes he is dead. This will lead him on a revenge odyssey where he will seek to end his former clan in the only way he knows: violence.

Although we don’t know much more, we do know some details. The character design is being done by Takeshi Okazaki, famous for Afro Samurai and Batman Ninja, and the music in the trailer is composed by Carpenter Brut. Something that, if indicative of what the series will be like, promises that the action will not stop for a second in this promising anime.

After The Continental, John Wick will continue expanding with a series… and an anime

After The Continental, John Wick will continue to expand with a series… and an anime, because those involved love all Japanese animation

John Wick is a franchise that has grown enough to be unstoppable. Whether The Continental succeeds or not doesn’t matter: there will be new installments of John Wick and there will be new spinoffs. It’s a winning horse, and everyone wants to exploit the mythical figure of Keanu Reeves’ character and the universe he inhabits. This is something the movie director has understood, having confirmed they’re already working on several projects.

Chad Stahelski, director of John Wick, has confirmed that there are two more television projects, aside from The Continental, currently in progress within the universe of the most famous fictional assassin. And one of them is an anime.

Stahelski made this statement on The Playlist podcast. Specifically, he said, “We’re really excited about it (the second TV series); we’re really excited because we’re doing that and a Japanese anime because I love Japanese anime. So, creating all those stories that anime can do better than what we could do and the TV show to expand our world, we’ll have our share too, you know what I mean? We can have it all.”

We need to remember that, ultimately, Stahelski is very involved in the John Wick universe. Up until 2023, he has directed the first four John Wick movies and produced the franchise’s first spinoff film, Ballerina, set to premiere in 2024. Furthermore, for the coming year, he’s already booked: he will direct the action scenes for Shinichiro Watanabe’s upcoming anime, Lazarus.

In other words, it seems like Chad Stahelski is going to be as busy as John Wick and his universe. One thing we can definitely say about this is that we’re certainly coming out on top.

Anime Crossover: Cowboy Bebop Director Teams Up with John Wick Director for New Anime Masterpiece

Shinichiro Watanabe, director of Cowboy Bebop, has announced his new anime and has a whole team of art superstars behind him

During the ComicCon these days, announcements related to the world of television, cinema, comics, and of course, anime are to be expected. That’s exactly what happened during the Adult Swim Festival, where it was revealed that a new anime by Shinichiro Watanabe has been greenlit. If the name doesn’t ring a bell on its own, a list of some of his anime works will surely help: Kids on the Slope, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop.

Titled “Lazarus,” and produced by the MAPPA studio, this anime would have Cowboy Bebop’s director in charge of an absolute dream team of creative talents. Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick, would handle the action sequences of the series, and the soundtrack for the project would be created by saxophonist Kasami Washington, DJ Floating Points, and producer Bonobo. The musical mix would blend jazz and electronic elements, in line with Watanabe’s previous works.

From what little we know about the work, apart from the individuals involved, is its synopsis. The series would take place in 2052, following a Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist who has developed a drug called Hapuna capable of curing any disease. There’s a catch, though – it kills the person who takes it three years later. Simultaneously, a team of special forces agents is assembled to take down the malevolent Skinner. How these two plots will relate, who Skinner is, or where the story will lead is yet to be seen. However, it appears that the series will have more in common with the excellent but underrated Zankyo no Terror than with Watanabe’s more well-known works like Samurai Champloo or Cowboy Bebop. And certainly, it’s expected to be better than its recent live-action adaptation by Netflix.

According to Adult Swim’s anime and action series manager, “Lazarus is full of great ideas, incredible characters, and a lot of heart.” And according to Watanabe himself, “I can’t help but feel that this project will serve as a culmination of my career up to this point.” Such statements only elevate the hype, even if there are no trailers or images yet – just the knowledge that Watanabe is focused and backed by such a dream team makes failure seem impossible.

‘Rambo: Last Blood’ gets its first trailer

Rambo draws his bowstring one final time in the first trailer for ‘Rambo: Last Blood.’

Rambo trailerAt nearly 73-years-old, Sylvester Stallone  is showing no signs of retirement in this first trailer for “Rambo: Last Blood.”

As the title suggests, this will be the last movie in the Rambo franchise.

The trailer looks like it takes place a few years after the events of 2008’s “Rambo.” At the end of that movie, Rambo returns home to the U.S. to reconnect with whatever family he has left.

At the beginning of this trailer, we see that Rambo is all alone, and is just trying to have as normal of a life as possible. However, after a group of bad guys force Rambo to relieve his checkered past, he must get back into action in order to get his revenge.

Yes, that was the most cliché plot for an action movie ever.

This looks dumb, but also like dumb fun

Rambo bow

The Rambo franchise started off very seriously with “First Blood,” a film about a Vietnam veteran who comes home to find a country that has turned its back on him. However, the serious has gotten more and more silly with films that rely on over-the-top action.

WARNING: VIDEO IS NSFW

That said, over-the-top action can be a lot of fun, and this trailer hints that the movie might get that.

We’ll probably get to see Rambo blow up goons with his bow-and-arrow and lots of hack-and-slashing with his Bowie knife. Also, Rambo appears to have taken a lesson from Kevin McCallister from “Home Alone,” as he set a series of traps in his house to kill goons.

If Rambo’s traps are half as deadly as Kevin’s, these bad guys are in for a world of hurt.

We can’t help but talk about Stallone’s age. At 72, it really seems like he needs to leave action movies to the younger generation. If he does another “Rocky” movie, it will have to be about him fighting his nurse for his pain pills.

The trailer suggests that Rambo won’t be doing as much hand-to-hand combat as we have seen before. Hopefully, we will get traps and explosions like a “Saw” movie, and we won’t see Rambo try to emulate John Wick.

Shut off your brain

Rambo machete

This movie probably isn’t going to give you a dramatic insight into the life of a veteran. If you want that, watch a movie like”Born on the Fourth of July” or “American Sniper.”

However, if you are looking for mindless action that will keep you entertained for about 90 minutes, this should keep you satisfied.
