Undertale, considered one of the great classics of the indie scene, has once again captured the public’s attention by reaching a new record of 11,071 concurrent players on Steam. This remarkable increase comes nearly ten years after its original release and surpasses the previous peak of 10,473 players, which was recorded in December 2015. The popularity of Toby Fox’s title has experienced a significant surge, driven by a limited-time offer that reduces its price by 90%, from €9.99 to just €0.99 until March 20.
A game that never gets old
The exceptional experience offered by Undertale, characterized by its unconventional approach to the RPG genre, its unique combat system, and its distinctive humor, has attracted thousands of players seeking a different adventure. Steam’s decision to put the game on sale during its Spring Sale has motivated many new users to discover this acclaimed title, which may have contributed to reaching this new player milestone.
While Undertale continues to reap success, Toby Fox is working on his next project, Deltarune. This game, also an RPG, is being released in episodes: Chapter 1 was released in 2018 and Chapter 2 in 2021. The final installment will consist of five chapters, and although production has been prolonged, Chapters 3 and 4 are scheduled to be released in 2025. In the meantime, fans continue to enjoy what Undertale has to offer, reaffirming its prominent place in the independent video game community.
