Through its peculiar setting, the game is inspired by the aesthetics of public television, but with a surreal twist reminiscent of late-night productions like those of Tim and Eric.

What will happen, what mysteries will there be

Blippo Plus resembles those old analog televisions, offering a variety of programming ranging from static logos to complete variety shows, all presented in real-time. That is to say, there is no option to rewind or fast forward, which recalls the experience of watching television from a bygone era. The game’s narrative comes from the “Blip Planet,” where references to extraterrestrial pop culture blend with elements of broadcasting history on Earth, creating an intriguing connection between channels.

The collaboration between Telefantasy Studios and Noble Robot, along with Playdate veteran Dustin Mierau, promises a distinct visual adaptation on Steam and Nintendo Switch, where Blippo Plus will take advantage of the color capabilities of these platforms. This version is expected to offer a programming guide, an addition that is not present in the Playdate version. Additionally, the game will be accompanied by a soundtrack by YACHT, which complements its hypnotic and dreamy atmosphere.

Published by Panic, the company behind titles like Untitled Goose Game, Blippo Plus promises to attract an audience looking for unique and well-designed gaming experiences in an increasingly diverse digital environment.

Nintendo Switch 2 has been a launch success, but analysts believe it could fail due to a key aspect

Nintendo Switch 2 has been a launch success, but analysts believe it could fail due to a key aspect

The Switch 2, the highly anticipated console from Nintendo, was launched in early June and achieved an impressive milestone by selling 1.6 million units in its first month, thus becoming the fastest-selling console in U.S. history. This outstanding start has generated both excitement and skepticism among industry analysts.

Mat Piscatella, Circana analyst, warns that initial sales are not always a reliable indicator of long-term success. There have been cases where systems with extraordinary initial sales later disappointed, while others started with slow performance but achieved great success later on. “It’s difficult to draw solid conclusions about long-term performance based solely on these initial data,” Piscatella commented.

Perhaps the audience that is not within Nintendo will not spend that money

In his projections, Piscatella estimates that the Switch 2 could sell around 4.3 million units in its first year. However, he invites us to consider that the margin of error in these projections is greater due to the current economic instability in the U.S. On the other hand, the launch of the Switch 2 has contributed to hardware spending reaching a new record of $978 million in June 2025, significantly surpassing the figure of $608 million recorded 17 years ago.

The Switch 2 has a price of $450, approximately $60 more than the original Switch, an increase that has not been an obstacle for enthusiasts who purchased the console since its launch. However, Piscatella warns that this price could affect sales among mass-market buyers during the upcoming holiday season. “Enthusiasts flocked to the store from day one. Now we need to see if they can attract mass-market gift buyers,” he concluded.

Nintendo’s expectations for the Switch 2 are high, and the company is expected to announce more sales figures in its upcoming earnings report on August 1. In the meantime, the industry will be watching how the console performs in the coming months.

Why has Switch 2 succeeded where WiiU could not? There is a hidden reason: marketing

At the end of the 2000s, Nintendo was at the peak of its success: the Wii had sold more than any other home console in its history, it had won the battle against PS3 and Xbox 360, and, on top of that, the famous “Wiimote” had been copied by all its competitors. As if that weren’t enough, the DS had become the second best-selling console of all time (only behind the PS2). Everything was going well, everything was in order. The next step was simply to continue the success. Wii… U? The first trailer for WiiU, released at E3 2011, did not […]

Why has Switch 2 succeeded where WiiU could not? There is a hidden reason: marketing

At the end of the 2000s, Nintendo was riding high: the Wii had sold more than any other home console in its history, it had won the war against PS3 and Xbox 360, and, on top of that, the famous “Wiimote” had been copied by all its competitors. As if that weren’t enough, the DS had become the second best-selling console of all time (only behind the PS2). Everything was going well, everything was in order. The next step was simply to continue the success.

Wii… ¿U?

The first trailer for WiiU, released at E3 2011, made no sense: more than a new console, the public perceived it as an accessory for the Wii in the form of a tablet that mainly served to allow other people to use the television and apparently draw on the console. You couldn’t take it on trips, it wasn’t useful for many things, no one saw a real utility in it, and it was hard to understand why, if the graphics didn’t make a giant leap, we had to get a WiiU.

Its slogan was “How u will play next,” which frankly sounded like the first idea that the marketing team came up with: using “u” as “you” and hoping that people would remember the jingle. The phrase, along with the new controller, filled the streets of New York, video game stores, and online ads. Everyone knew that the WiiU was coming. The question was whether, after seeing a marketing campaign that focused on the supposed “new way to play” instead of the games themselves, anyone was really that interested. And what the hell, take a look: the ads were terrible.

The result, as we now know, was disastrous: the console barely sold 13 and a half million units throughout its lifespan, just a bit more than the PS Vita and Game Gear, but by a hair. Fortunately, four years after its launch, they came out with another surprise: Nintendo Switch, a kind of improved WiiU where the marketing actually worked. Instead of focusing on the things you could do with it at home, it focused on being able to take it in your pocket, play with your friends in the park, take it on trips… It was the same concept, but much, much better. And it was a hit. Oh boy, was it a hit. After 152 million consoles sold, there was only one question left: What next?

Switch 2: The Revenge!

The strategy was the same as with WiiU: if something improves, don’t break it. Switch 2 is basically the first one but with improved controls, better graphics, a next-generation touchscreen, and, above all, a showcase of games, games, and more games. WiiU tried to win over Nintendo fans with a New Super Mario Bros, which at the time already looked outdated, and with versions that had the same graphics as Wii Fit and Wii Sports, in addition to a strange Reversi game. But the presentation of Switch 2 already hinted at a new Mario Kart with up to 24 players, a Donkey Kong where you can break everything in your path, a new Kirby, iconic third-party games, and even the arrival (finally!) of Silksong.

Nintendo has taken a decade and a bit, but it has understood that the key to selling its consoles is not selling experiences with its controller, but with its exclusive games. After all, why would you want a Nintendo console if not to enjoy its franchises, which you can’t find on PC or anywhere else? Moreover, in this case, it is so confident in its potential success that, despite having a slogan (“All together, anytime, anywhere”), in most places all it has needed is the Switch logo and a “2”. Those who know, know.

In marketing, sometimes less is more: if in the Switch 2 trailer they had been showing families and families happily playing Super Mario Odyssey or Splatoon 3, probably no one would have bought the console. Why would they, if it’s exactly the same? Instead, and being a much smaller innovation than WiiU, the public has perceived it as a must-have, something you have to own: the console that dominates the living room, but now with controllers that connect magnetically! With the successor to the Wii, they tried too hard to be liked. With the Switch, they have shown confidence (almost arrogance) and flexed their muscles. And the public, having been cured of fright, has had to agree with them.

In the recent Nintendo Direct dedicated to Donkey Kong Bananza, it was confirmed that Pauline will be Donkey Kong’s companion in this new adventure, dispelling speculations about the appearance of a mysterious Odd Rock. Alongside a young and energetic Pauline, the iconic gorilla will embark on a journey to the depths of the underground of Ingot Isle, with the goal of fulfilling a wish sought by both: to access the core of the planet.

Pauline in the Jungle

The game’s dynamics incorporate a local cooperative mode, where one player can take control of Pauline, who will have special abilities like vocal blasts, which can be used while moving on Donkey Kong’s shoulders. This collaborative aspect adds a new layer of interaction that promises to enrich the gaming experience.

A curious element is the representation of Pauline, who appears significantly younger in Donkey Kong Bananza. This has raised questions about the timeline of the Donkey Kong universe, especially considering that Cranky Kong remains the same age as in previous titles of the saga. What are the implications of this temporal discrepancy? Fans speculate with theories about how this could fit into the broader narrative of the game and about the eventual kidnapping of Pauline in the classic Donkey Kong arcade games.

The visual details of the game have been well received, showcasing both Donkey Kong and Pauline in various customizable outfits, adding a fresh touch to the game set to release on July 17. The anticipation among fans of the franchise is high, and many hope that the game’s narrative will successfully tie all these threads together. In the meantime, players can satisfy their cravings by exploring other standout titles on the Switch 2 console.

Is this the beginning of the end for physical formats? The physical edition of Gears of War: Reloaded will only be released for PS5

The video game industry is constantly evolving, and one of the most notable examples is the return of the iconic Gears of War franchise. On August 26, players will be able to immerse themselves once again in this universe with the release of Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the first installment of the saga. This new title will be available on multiple platforms, except for Nintendo Switch consoles.

Microsoft’s new strategy

A highlighted aspect of this release is Xbox Spain’s decision to offer a complete physical edition only for PlayStation 5, reflecting the difficult situation of the physical market in Spain, where Xbox sales are scarce compared to those of PlayStation. For Xbox Series X|S and PC players, Gears of War: Reloaded will be available in empty boxes that will include only a digital code. This measure has disappointed many fans who enjoyed the first installment on Xbox 360, who were hoping for a complete physical edition on their console.

Additionally, it has been announced that Microsoft is giving away the remaster of Gears of War to those who purchased Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before May 2025, offering these players access to a playable trial. Those who pre-order the game will also have the opportunity to participate in a beta for the multiplayer mode. This approach seems to indicate that, if this trend continues, future multiplatform releases from Xbox could follow the same line, with physical editions reserved only for Sony consoles.

The situation marks a significant change in Microsoft’s strategy, which, although surprising, is becoming increasingly evident in a physical sales landscape that is moving away from traditional consumption habits. With Gears of War: Reloaded, the company is not only seeking nostalgia but also adapting to a transforming market.

Users are enjoying standout titles like Mario Kart World, Hitman: World of Assassination, and Disney Villains Cursed Café, which have been well received on this new platform.

Problems start early

However, not everything has been positive since its launch. From day one, several players have reported technical issues related to the incorrect charging of the lithium-ion battery in some consoles. This inconvenience has fueled concerns about the durability and reliability of the new console. Although the Nintendo Switch 2 has received praise for its performance and quality, battery failures could impact the user experience in the long run.

Fortunately, Nintendo has taken swift action and provided a solution along with a step-by-step guide to resolve the battery issues. While the solution may be a bit complicated for some users, it is essential to ensure the proper functioning of the device. The company seems committed to helping its consumers overcome these inconveniences as they become familiar with the product.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed information has begun to circulate suggesting that these issues may be more common than Nintendo anticipated. Players are on the lookout for future updates that could more definitively address these technical problems, ensuring that the Nintendo Switch 2 remains a relevant option in the competitive console market.

The titles are Kirby Star Stacker, Survival Kids, Gradius: The Interstellar Assault, and The Sword of Hope, each offering unique gameplay that reflects the diversity of the console.

Four classic games you must not miss

Among the additions, Kirby Star Stacker stands out as the most well-known. Originally released by HAL Laboratory in 1997, it is a puzzle game reminiscent of Tetris Attack and Pokémon Puzzle League, where players must align blocks representing iconic characters from the Kirby series. The Super Famicom version has been available on Switch Online since 2023, and now the original Game Boy version joins the offering, giving fans a new opportunity to enjoy it.

Another significant title is Survival Kids, a game developed by Konami that has cultivated a cult status and will soon be remastered for the Nintendo Switch 2. The original game challenges players to survive on a deserted island, a dynamic that has influenced many modern survival titles. Although the upcoming version for Switch 2 will feature a friendlier and more cooperative reinterpretation, the inclusion of the classic in Switch Online is a gift for nostalgia fans.

Shoot ’em up genre fans will also be pleased with Gradius: The Interstellar Assault, the Game Boy adaptation of the classic Konami saga. Additionally, The Sword of Hope, a lesser-known but ambitious RPG for the console, will be available, offering a different and immersive experience for players.

All these titles are now available to play through Nintendo Switch Online, which promises to revitalize interest in some of the most endearing games from the Game Boy era.

Switch 2 is on the horizon, but what are the expectations of investors, analysts, and Nintendo itself?

Nintendo Switch 2 is the big event of the year. At least in terms of the world of video games. If until recently it was GTA6, due to the completely unsurpassable dimensions of Rockstar’s game, the delay of its release until 2026 makes this, officially, the year of Nintendo. Although that also places it in a position it didn’t have before. Because while before the industry expected to ride the wave of GTA6 to justify its numbers, now that obligation is going to fall, in large part, on Nintendo. Is that possible? Nintendo Switch 2 is the big event of the year. At least in terms of the video game world. If until recently it was GTA6, due to the completely unmatched dimensions of Rockstar’s game, the delay of its release until 2026 makes this, officially, the year of Nintendo. Although that also places it in a position it didn’t have before. Because while the industry previously expected to ride the wave of GTA6 to justify its numbers, now that obligation is going to fall, in large part, on Nintendo.

Is that possible? Is it an absurd possibility? Or when talking about Nintendo should we be at ease? Of course, this is something that is already being discussed. Less than two weeks before the console’s launch, which is on June 5th, both analysts and investors, as well as Nintendo itself, have something to say. And we find it interesting to shed some light on what the expectations are regarding this console.

The shadow of the first Switch is long

First of all, it must be stated an obvious fact. Nintendo Switch 2 lives in the shadow of its predecessor, Nintendo Switch. And it should also be said something perhaps less obvious. Its main competitor is neither PlayStation 5 nor Xbox Series X|S nor PC nor the Steam Deck, but the Nintendo Switch itself. Because the expectations placed on this console are absurd because its successor managed to break all unimaginable records.

The original Switch managed to sell 15 million units in its first 10 months of life. This is an extraordinary figure for any console and is what they should aspire to at Nintendo. Is it possible that this will happen? For now, the pre-sale of the console has been “extremely high,” with nearly 2.2 million requests just in Japan. Far exceeding Nintendo’s own expectations.

Now, this brings us to the various challenges that lie ahead for Nintendo. The first of these is to produce enough consoles to meet global demand. If the console is a success, but they don’t have enough units to satisfy it, it wouldn’t matter if it were successful or not. The second challenge is to maintain a steady flow of interest from players. This means having a catalog of games and new releases that makes them interested in the console and take the leap. This is perhaps where they may encounter the most problems.

The launch catalog of the Nintendo Switch 2 is very limited. And unlike the Nintendo Switch, they have neither shown nor promised anything for the first months of the console. It is important to remember that for the original console they promised a new major game each month, which they have not done again. This is further amplified by another problem: the price.

The price of the console is much higher than that of the first Switch. Even if we consider that being a much more powerful console it is not significantly more expensive, in comparison, its games are. With Nintendo’s own games costing between 80 and 90 euros, there is a very good reason not to make the leap to the new console: not to pay prices that a large part of the public sees as abusive. This has been evident in the reactions on social media and Nintendo’s streams, where the audience has reacted extremely negatively.

Nintendo: extremely conservative with Switch 2

Now, what does Nintendo think about all this? Obviously, they haven’t provided concrete data, but they have had to do what every publicly traded company is required to do: provide forecasts for the upcoming fiscal year. This allows us to get a rough idea of whether they believe things will go well, poorly, or moderately.

For the next fiscal year, that of Nintendo Switch 2, they expect to increase their year-on-year revenue by 63.1%. Similarly, they expect their net profit and operating profit to rise by up to 13.3%. Additionally, they say they expect to distribute 15 million units of Switch 2 by next March 2026, when the next fiscal year ends. This provides a rather cautious estimate of their figures.

Why prudent? On paper, they may sound like spectacular figures, but the reality is that they are quite conservative. If Nintendo Switch 2 is a moderate success, it should be able to reach those figures without any problem. In fact, analysts are convinced that it should be able to surpass the numbers that Nintendo itself has provided without any issues.

Market analysts estimate that a realistic figure could be around 17 million units of Nintendo Switch 2 sold. While the more optimistic ones talk about between 18 and 20 million units during the first year. A very, very generous figure that would put it ahead of what Nintendo Switch was and that does not seem to take into account all the problems arising from Nintendo’s current policies and all the issues that are also beyond its control. Because all these forecasts could fall on deaf ears if someone changes their mind again about their tariff policies.

Donald Trump, the big problem for Nintendo

Donald Trump’s tariffs are a danger, not for the launch of Switch 2, but for its medium-term continuity. Nintendo has already stated that if implemented, they will have to consider reviewing the price of the console as it would be unsustainable to sell it at the current price. This would undoubtedly have a significant impact on sales. The impact would not only be on the console itself but also on its accessories, which could increase by up to 30%, at a minimum, in the United States.

With the 90-day extension given by President Trump, it is possible that they can create a contingency plan to minimize the short- and medium-term impact. But what is certain is that, if these tariffs are implemented, they will affect the future of the console in the long term.

Can Nintendo Switch 2 go wrong? Could it be a new WiiU? Nothing points to that possibility. It is a console that has sparked public interest and, despite Nintendo not having done a good job on many fronts and the geopolitical situation not being the best, it seems that, at the very least, it can perform well. But there is a big gap between performing well and being a success like the Nintendo Switch. We will see if it is enough to just perform well or if they need that extra. And above all, if they are capable of achieving it.

Because being a backward-compatible console means we will be able to play enhanced versions of our Nintendo Switch games. Some of them without having to pay again.

Because although unfortunately some of these updates will be paid —those that are, because they will come with extra content—, there are also free ones. Something we wanted to break down for you in a simple and detailed way before the console’s launch. Because it could very well be that this is what encourages you to get the console. Or to definitely pass on it.

Additionally, before we start, another important detail. All these updates will be available on June 5, the launch day of Nintendo Switch 2.

Games with GameShare compatibility

One of the features that has stood out the most from Nintendo is GameShare. The ability to play with friends in a cooperative manner, share your gameplay screen, and communicate with them through voice chat. Five Nintendo Switch games have confirmed that they will support GameShare and, unsurprisingly, they are five games with some form of cooperative play.

The Nintendo Switch games that will receive GameShare support on Nintendo Switch 2 are 51 Worldwide Games, Big Brain Academy: Brain Battle, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and Super Mario Odyssey.

Games with visual enhancements

One thing that happens to the Nintendo Switch is that it is a console that was born with a clear lack of power. This has led to serious problems in making some of its games look good, especially on modern screens. HDR and high-resolution screens do not get along with the Switch, and that is what the patch for these games tries to solve. To make them look as good as possible on Switch 2 and on current TVs and monitors.

The Nintendo Switch games that will receive visual enhancements on Nintendo Switch 2 are ARMS, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Video Game Studio, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

Games with FPS Enhancements

In the last years of the Switch’s life, some games performed much worse than we wished. Something we hope Nintendo Switch 2 will manage. Although the list of free patches addressing FPS is much less extensive than we would like and only addresses one game that really needs it, we embrace it because, let’s be honest: a certain Pokémon release really needs that boost.

The Nintendo Switch games that will receive FPS improvements on Nintendo Switch 2 are ARMS, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.

Mouse mode games

Another great feature of the Nintendo Switch 2 is that the Joy-Con can function as mice. Something that, as is evident, is difficult to implement in a backward-compatible way. That doesn’t stop us from celebrating that they have at least managed to do it with one title.

The Nintendo Switch game that will receive support with the mouse mode of Nintendo Switch 2 is Video Game Studio.

Just to share with very close friends

With the possibility of playing up to four players, PlateUp! allows participants to build and manage their own restaurant. Players are responsible for choosing the dishes, buying and placing appliances, cooking, and serving customers.
