Hideo Kojima, the acclaimed creator behind iconic franchises like Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, continues to be a reference point in the video game industry, especially for his impactful trailers that have left an indelible mark on fans. His latest project, titled Physint, was announced in January 2024 and has been generating growing anticipation among fans and experts. Recently, it has been rumored that Kojima presented a new trailer to representatives of Sony Interactive Entertainment in a private meeting at the Kojima Productions offices.

It seems that he continues to prioritize his projects for Sony

The collaboration between Kojima Productions and PlayStation seems to be in full swing, with regular visits from Sony representatives and the active development of new titles. The recent appearance of nine Sony representatives at Kojima’s headquarters, along with the anticipation of Death Stranding 2, which will now be released for PC, suggests that an exciting revelation could be just around the corner. Kojima’s social media has been buzzing with activity, and with his tendency to surprise, it’s natural for fans to be on high alert.

On the other hand, it is important to note that there has been a clear intention on Kojima’s part to keep his fanbase engaged, especially after the teaser he showed at the Kojima Productions anniversary event in September. Rumors suggest that the trailer he recently showed could be related to the anticipated Physint, which has been described as an action and espionage video game, in the style of the famous Metal Gear.

With every strategic move and every teaser he shares, Kojima demonstrates that his mastery in storytelling and generating intrigue is more alive than ever. Fan expectations are growing, and everyone is eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Kojima’s narrative.

Kojima has revealed that OD Knock, developed in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, is a horror game whose trailer has generated expectations for its apparent break from conventional horror. In an interview, Kojima emphasized that his goal is to create “something that has never been seen before,” although he has not provided precise details about the game.

Their return to terror and espionage

On the other hand, Physint is shaping up to be a spy game that takes traditional elements of the genre but aims to incorporate new mechanics that set it apart from other titles. Kojima anticipates that this project will delve into the fusion between film and video games, inviting filmmakers to participate not only in front of the camera but also in the development. In this sense, he has expressed his desire to explore themes that may resonate with the current reality.

Beyond video games, Kojima is expanding the Death Stranding universe with several audiovisual projects, including a live-action movie and an animated series for Disney+. These projects, in which his creative involvement is expected, could be released starting in 2027. Additionally, he has revealed that he has already written the concept for a third title of Death Stranding, leaving the possibility for other directors to develop it.

Kojima remains committed to the creation of video games, but his gaze is increasingly directed towards cinema, with the premise that the explosion of technology and transmedia narratives are the future of entertainment. As we approach the 2030s, it is likely that we will see a Kojima more involved in projects that transcend the medium of video games.

More and more Westerners, thanks to the relevance it has been gaining in recent years, but especially the Japanese, as it is their quintessential event. And who wouldn’t want to miss it for anything in the world is the illustrious Hideo Kojima.

With a livestream called Beyond the Strand, in which he has shown everything he is currently working on, including some truly unexpected things, Kojima wanted to show the world what we can expect from him after Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. And what we can expect are many video games, as well as some Kojima-made oddities.

Many video games ahead

The first announcement and probably the biggest of all has been the official reveal of the first trailer for OD, the horror video game being developed with Xbox Games Studios. Although it is just a teaser and no gameplay is shown, a specific tone of what it aims for can already be seen: a horror game in the style of P.T, with a style reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick, which seems unlikely to leave anyone indifferent.

Regarding the details, we have a few. It stars Udo Kier and Hunter Schafer and, we don’t know in what category or how, the project involves Jordan Peele, director of horror films like Get Out or Us. The most important detail, its release date, we do not know, unfortunately.

The second announcement, no less impactful, has been to show the first image of their upcoming game. In fact, its poster. Named Physint, it is a stealth and action game, we assume in the style of Metal Gear Solid, of which we still know very little.

What do we know? That there are at least three actors involved: Carlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok, and Minami Hamabe. Beyond that, in the past, Kojima has stated that Physint will not be ready before 2030, so we will have to wait and see what he does with what seems to be the spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid. But we better wait sitting down.

Movies, series, and how about their own alcohol brand?

In news related to Death Stranding, it has been mentioned that the film adaptation by A24 directed by Michael Sarnoski is progressing, but also that it will not be the only adaptation the franchise will have. Death Stranding will have an anime, titled Death Stranding: Mosquito, directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto and written by Aaron Guzikowski. Why is it called Mosquito? Because the protagonist of the series, who is not Sam Porter Bridges, is capable of absorbing something really important, but it is not blood. What is it? We don’t know, and since we also don’t know the release date of the series, we will have to wait to find out.

In another announcement without a date, but no less interesting, Kojima has announced that Kojima Productions will collaborate with Niantic Spatial to create an Augmented Reality game. Although they have not provided details about it, it will be a game from the creators of Pokémon Go aimed at helping us connect with the people and the environment around us, so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

To finish, nothing better than the two most outrageous announcements for the end. Because for its tenth anniversary, Kojima Productions is going to release a special product for sale. A video game? No. A figure or an art book? Neither. Sake. Japanese alcohol. Named Zaku Ludens, it will be released in the future in collaboration with Shimizu Seizaburo Shoten and it seems doubtful that it will leave Japan. But doubtful is not impossible, just as it is impossible for the Hideo Kojima credit card to leave Japan, with which you can earn Kojima Points when making purchases with it, in collaboration with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. And if you think we are kidding, no, seriously: Japan is like that.

Kojima is like that. We have to love him as he is. And that also means accepting that he will announce dates when all these things are ready to be released. So now we have many things to look forward to on the horizon from Kojima Productions. Even a sake, if that’s what you like.

During the live broadcast for the tenth anniversary of Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima presented a new poster for his upcoming PlayStation exclusive game titled Physint. This title will mark a return to the roots of the “tactical espionage action” gameplay style that popularized the iconic Metal Gear Solid series, in contrast to his previous work, Death Stranding.

Physint has had to face some notable problems

At the event, Kojima mentioned that the casting process for the main character was affected by the SAG-AFTRA strikes, although he confirmed that actors Don Lee, known for his role in Train to Busan, Charlee Fraser, noted for her performance in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and Minami Hamabe, who participated in Godzilla Minus One, will be part of the cast.

Physint will use an advanced version of the Decima engine, a technology that also supported notable works such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding. Although an immediate release is not expected, the game is anticipated to arrive within six years, making it an even more distant project than OD, which also does not have a confirmed release date.

Kojima emphasized that Physint will be “both a game and a movie at the same time,” suggesting that the gaming experience could be so cinematic that it might be confused with a film for those who witness it. “I’m not sure how far we can take it yet,” added the Japanese creative.

The broadcast was filled with announcements, including an anime based on Death Stranding and a sake from Kojima Productions, leaving fans excited about the future of the company and its innovative proposals in the world of entertainment.

Hideo Kojima is already working on his next video game and his team is upset

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has recently reached ‘gold’ status, which means the game is ready for release later this month. This highly anticipated sequel marks Hideo Kojima’s return to project direction after several years of intense work. However, despite the conclusion of this monumental project, Kojima has no plans to rest.

Kojima is already working on the next game and his team wants you to rest

In the latest episode of his radio show KOJI10, Kojima confirmed that the Kojima Productions team will take a break after the release of Death Stranding 2. However, Kojima himself is already working on new projects, surprising his own team. “Everyone is displeased when I send the project plans at this time. They say: ‘Huh?, I thought you were going to take a break’. But you are talking about the next one,” Kojima explained, revealing his tireless passion for video game development.

Among the new projects on Kojima’s list are OD, a horror game in development for Xbox Game Studios, and Physint, a PS5 exclusive that could be a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid. Despite speculation that Physint could take between five and six years to complete, Kojima seems unbothered about embarking on more creative adventures.

In addition, the Japanese director has become a pillar of innovation in the video game industry. With a career marked by ambition and complex storytelling, the possibility that he is starting an additional new project only adds more excitement to his career. As Kojima continues to design unique experiences, both fans and the industry will be watching closely to see what the master has in store for the future.

Hideo Kojima, the acclaimed video game creator, has revealed that he has several projects in development, among which stands out Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, scheduled for release on June 26 on PlayStation 5. This title, a sequel to his innovative 2019 game, promises to continue exploring themes of connection and isolation, hallmark features of Kojima’s narrative.

Death Stranding does not seem to be Kojima’s future

In addition to Death Stranding 2, Kojima is working on a horror title called OD and on Physint, an action-spy game reminiscent of his famous Metal Gear Solid franchise. The idea for Physint emerged during a personal health crisis for Kojima, who realized the public’s desire for a game in the style of Metal Gear. “I reflected and thought the idea was good,” he told Edge Magazine.

Both projects, Physint and OD, have faced delays due to the voice actors’ strike currently affecting the industry. Despite these setbacks, Kojima has indicated that Physint could take between five and six years to hit the market, which could lead it to a new generation of consoles. This ambitious game aims to provide a hybrid experience between video game and movie through the use of cutting-edge technology, although no details about the plot have been shared so far.

On the other hand, Kojima has mentioned that he does not plan to create Death Stranding 3. However, he has ideas for future video games and has assured that he has a USB full of proposals, in case something were to happen to him. With multiple projects on the horizon, fans’ curiosity about Kojima’s creative direction continues to grow.

Hideo Kojima leaves the door open for his next project to not be a video game

With Hideo Kojima, you never know what to expect. He is a multifaceted man who loves to surprise and always does what he wants. Pleasing the public is not among his priorities, and anyone who thinks they know what he will do next should be prepared to be wrong. Therefore, it was not surprising when the Japanese creative confirmed that, indeed, his future is not necessarily in video games.

Hideo Kojima has signed with the talent agency WME, suggesting that his next project might not be a video game. Something he elaborated on in an interview with Variety, where he stated that he created Kojima Productions with the idea of creating “digital entertainment,” not necessarily a video game. Hence, his next project could be a video game, an anime, a movie, or something entirely different, as nothing is ruled out in that regard.

Establishing themselves as an indie studio, as they do not belong to the structure of any large company, all this happened while a roundtable on Death Stranding 2: On The Beach was being held at the Tokyo Game Show. In this, Hideo Kojima revealed some new images of the game and its peculiar photo mode, which allows us to manipulate its characters as if it were a digital photo session.

Well, if you are waiting for a specific release date for the game, we are afraid we have bad news. According to Kojima himself during the event, due to a series of unforeseen circumstances that prevent the announcement of its release date right now, we won’t know when the game will be released until sometime in 2025.

At the same time as Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Kojima is working on OD, a game for Microsoft with no release date that he described in an interview with Variety as “a game like no other.” Additionally, he has also announced his desire to return to espionage games with a game named Physint, but only after completing Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and OD. Therefore, even if the most renowned creative in contemporary video games might do something outside the medium, it doesn’t seem like he will leave us without things to play in the meantime.
