Pokémon Go is experiencing a second renaissance. With numerous new events, mechanics, and thus, Pokémon, Niantic’s game continues to receive new content to the delight of its fans. They cannot complain about not having new things to do almost constantly in a game that is also characterized by being slow-paced and relaxing. Something that might change a bit with the game’s upcoming event.

Wild Area will be the next event coming to Pokémon Go, promising us the opportunity to catch numerous and very powerful electric and poison-type Pokémon. This will help us complete our Pokédex or strengthen those Pokémon we like and want to make stronger with a good dose of candies.

But that won’t be all. Because along with the Wild Area, a new and fearsome Pokémon will arrive: Toxtricity. This Pokémon, with its unique poison/electric type mix, is well known to those who follow the competitive side of Pokémon in recent years, and it will arrive in the game in two special forms. It will have a Gigamax version, in which between 10 and 20 trainers will have to join forces to battle against it for the chance to capture it. But it will also have a Dynamax version, which will also be part of the event.

In addition to that, this event will include two more novelties. On one hand, the inclusion of the Mighty Pokémon, a larger version with higher life, attack, and defense statistics than their normal versions, which can be found during the event. On the other hand, the inclusion of a new type of poke ball, the go safari ball, which can be used to capture Mighty Pokémon more easily, making the search and capture of this class of unique monsters much more pleasant.

If we’ve piqued your interest, the Wild Area event will take place between November 23 and 24. Before that, Gigantamax Pokémon will arrive on October 26 and the Halloween event will run from October 22 to 28, adding one of the most adorably terrifying Pokémon of recent times. Mike Nerdlaw is one of those rare Internet guys that, possibly, the community managers of Pokémon Go have learned to deal with. However, maybe they shouldn’t, because he has great ideas for the future of the franchise. There is no Twitter post about the game that doesn’t have a reply from him kindly asking to introduce a Caterpie with a cowboy hat. And so far, Niantic is ignoring it.

Imagine that you have been playing for a long time. So much so that in 2020, the year of Covid, you completed a very specific mission called ‘Distracted by something shiny’. The problem is that if you have 5 euros, the desire to play, and you already did it in 2020, the game will prevent you from doing so. It’s not just that fans want to give more money to Niantic, it’s simply pure frustration to find that the reward for being a veteran player is… being completely left out of the new features. It all started on April 22, when Niantic announced that Wiglett could appear at any time… but players quickly guessed that it only appeared near beach and coastal areas. It turns out that this same Wednesday Niantic has released an update in which, supposedly, it was going to make trainers look more like players with different options to add to the characters. The problem? Many say that their avatars are now noticeably uglier. It may seem trivial or a complaint thrown into the void, but the truth is that it has a basis.

The new avatars of Pokémon Go are not only uglier: in some cases, they are real aberrations. On paper, everything seems very nice: players will have more body options, skin tones, and more, and finally, we will be able to see people with a non-normative body. Since the year 2000, Google has included a lot of jokes on April 1st: the first one was to make us believe that it could read our thoughts and search according to them, only to receive error messages like “Error 4P: It is not clear if your search is about money or monkeys. Please try again”. 14 years later, this system of jokes was so perfected that it was time to launch the ‘Pokémon Challenge’.

Game Freak, The Pokemon Company, Nintendo and Google have joined forces to launch a new application on Android and iOS that allows you to capture Pokémon while exploring the real world. Other jokes from that year included including David Hasselhoff in all your photos uploaded to Google+ (which is none) or WazeDates, an app to find parking and, by the way, love.

‘Pokémon Challenge’ went viral very quickly, and many dreamed of a real, long version that wasn’t a joke. Nintendo, who must have thought that truth comes out in jest, teamed up with Niantic (Tsunekazu Isihara was a fan of ‘Ingress’, their previous game) to create that dreamed version to see if it worked out and continue increasing the dominance of ‘Pokémon’ in humanity.

In 2016, ‘Pokémon Go’ was released, and eight years later we are still receiving updates on one of the most lucrative mobile games in history, a little joke that, to everyone’s surprise, ended up becoming one of the game-changers in history.

Pokémon Go is giving away a Legendary… but because of a game bug

Niantic slipped up by revealing something it shouldn’t have. To achieve it, all you had to do was claim the rewards from the GO Battle League, although it didn’t last long.

Imagine that you finish a battle in Pokémon Go and, when receiving the rewards, a super powerful creature appears on your team that you were not expecting. For a while, players who received the alternate forms of White Kyurem and Black Kyurem, a Legendary Pokémon born in, precisely, White/Black and that has dragon and ice powers, believed it was an disproportionate reward. But then they realized something worse: the creature wasn’t even listed. What the hell was it doing there?

‘Pokémon Go’, as of today, has more than 800 creatures to catch. Well, we can say without much error that Niantic has messed up by revealing the one it shouldn’t have. To get it, you just had to claim the rewards from the GO Battle League, although it didn’t last long.

And Niantic, keeping a close eye, notified the existence of the bug and promptly eliminated it, although without explaining if that means it will be removed from the affected users’ Pokédex. It probably was part of the next big game event and ended up slipping through, of course, but at the end of the day, and paraphrasing the home rules of chess, Pokémon on the table, it weighs.

Perhaps they will make a Solomonic decision and turn White Kyurem (or Black) into a normal Kyurem, since it is an extremely powerful creature that could destabilize the game. In fact, it even surpasses Rayquaza in power. Come on, if you have been lucky enough to get one, you have a gem in your hands. And if not, everything points to Niantic allowing you to catch it soon in a raid. Yes: you can catch them all… Even without taking advantage of bugs.

The absurd reason ‘Pokémon’ was banned in Saudi Arabia and other countries in 2001

The whole world fell in love with this saga. The whole world? That’s saying a lot.

When ‘Pokémon‘ set out to conquer the world in 1997 with the anime and the two Game Boy games in tow, it achieved it almost immediately: the end of the 90s was a pure global pokemania with video games, the collectible card game, trading cards, chewing gum, merchandise, anime, the Pokédex, and even a Pikachu that counted your steps. Not everyone ended up in love with the game: there were quite a few parents who expressed concern and even accused it of being satanic, something that ‘South Park’ parodied in the wonderful 1999 episode ‘Chinpokomon.’ In Saudi Arabia, however, they went further: in 2001, they announced that the game was another form of gambling, prohibited in Islam, and banned the games, anime, collectible cards, and even, more recently, ‘Pokémon Go.’ Fixed ideas, indeed.”

All very deep convictions (and very false), yes, but currently, the games are sold without any problem, as well as the merchandise, ignoring a prohibition that was always absurd.

In the end, the seasons were eventually dubbed… and censored. For example, all of Brock’s passionate interactions with women were changed to calm conversations, and entire episodes were altered to prevent characters like Gengar from appearing. Interestingly, before the ban in 2001, crossover musicals were produced with ‘Detective Conan,’ and even the American ‘Pokémon Live!‘ was performed in English with the American cast. It ended just a few days before the decree that banned the series forever. Go figure.

The first is Genesect, a Paleozoic Pokémon that was born in ‘Black/White’ in 2010 and is number 649. The second is “I sink”, which in ‘Pokémon Go’ is a creature that has all its characteristics to the maximum. Let’s say there is only one type of Pokémon most coveted in the game: the “shunds”, which are deep and also shiny, with a very, very, tremendously low possibility of appearing. Understood? A Reddit user who calls himself darkliege666 suddenly found himself with a deep Genesect (do you see why explanations were necessary?). Catching a Genesect itself is already difficult, and it has been in the game since 2020, where it started as a five-star raid that required you to catch it in a group… And so it remains. It’s complicated, but on top of that Niantic hasn’t made it easy.

So, the player set out to catch him by throwing Pokéballs in his patented perfect style. But Genesect came out. Over and over again: 22 spins “excellent” in a row, 48 rolls in total, 24 golden raspberries (which multiply the chance of capture by 25)… And the creature ended up running away, leaving the Pokémon trainer sadder and with an alarming shortage of berries and Pokéballs. What a metaphor for life.

The most experienced players have not sympathized with their fellow coach: they have insisted that he should have thrown a berry on each throw, and not have alternated it with the Pinia Berries. The only good thing that can calm you down? The Genesect are not of much use in the competitive mode of ‘Pokémon Go’. Frustration, yes, but with a little relief. More or less.
