An acclaimed post-apocalyptic photographic simulator arrives on PlayStation and VR

An acclaimed post-apocalyptic photography simulator comes to PlayStation and VR, offering us the best way to immerse ourselves in its world

For many years, we’ve been under the promise that virtual reality is the future of gaming. Fortunately or unfortunately, that hasn’t quite materialized yet. Whether it’s due to the high entry price, the lack of a strong catalog, or the inability to effectively sell its benefits, the general public doesn’t seem as interested in virtual reality. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t an audience eagerly seeking new experiences.

Umurangi Generation VR is precisely the kind of game anyone with a set of virtual reality glasses should expect. It’s the VR version of the acclaimed cult game Umurangi Generation, a photography simulator set in Tauranga Aotearoa. Here, we embody a photojournalist with a specific task: to document the unfortunate state of the country and its inhabitants through our photographs. All of this follows a set of criteria established in each of the scenarios.

With a post-apocalyptic setting, in scenes teeming with life due to the unwavering will of the people and a police state attempting to control everything, the quality of the photos isn’t important. The game never judges whether our photos are good or bad. What matters is creating our own criteria for how the photos should be and doing everything possible to follow it.

This game is perfect for a VR version precisely because it’s not a frantic game in any way. Taking photos, navigating the environment, interacting with people to pose for us, and creating graffiti are things that can be done elegantly and naturally in virtual reality. This aspect makes Umurangi Generation a perfect fit for this technology.

Umurangi Generation VR will arrive on PlayStation VR2 and Quest on April 18, 2024. Additionally, the non-VR version will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on the same day, for those who still prefer to take their photos in a more traditional way.

Introducing Meta Quest 3: Meta’s Ambitious Move to Challenge Apple’s Dominance

Meta has just announced the Meta Quest 3, the successor to the popular Meta Quest 2 VR headset.

WWDC 2023 is getting closer and closer. Several sources and rumors claim that Apple will unveil their highly anticipated mixed reality headsets at the event. In light of this occasion, Meta couldn’t “hold back” and has just announced the Meta Quest 3, the successors to the popular Meta Quest 2 VR glasses.

Unlike the Meta Quest 2, the company’s new gadget combines virtual reality and augmented reality. As if that wasn’t enough, it also comes with a price increase: $499.99 (€569.99 in Spain), $100 more than the current cost of the Quest 2.

According to the information revealed by Meta, the Meta Quest 3 introduces a new design that makes them 40% lighter than their predecessor. Their more oval-shaped appearance features three indentations on the front, where their new sensors are located.

In addition, the Meta Quest 3 will include new high-definition displays and improved resolution thanks to a new Qualcomm chipset. While it has been confirmed that it will feature a new state-of-the-art Snapdragon, the specific model and its characteristics are not yet known. However, Meta promises a significant leap in performance and up to double the GPU power.

To enable mixed reality, the Meta Quest 3 will incorporate dual 4-megapixel RGB cameras along with much more precise depth sensors.

Another area that has been revamped is the controllers. The so-called Touch Plus controllers include the tracking system seen in the Quest Pro and feature a more ergonomic design. As expected, it has been confirmed that all of our games and applications from the Meta Quest 2 will be compatible with the Meta Quest 3.

To find out more, we will have to wait until September

Although Meta has rushed to announce it through social media, the truth is that there is still not much information available. For now, it’s just a small teaser to whet our appetites while we wait for September 27th, the day of Meta Connect.

To make the wait more enjoyable, Meta has released the first trailer of what will be the new Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable on their social media. Judging from what has been shown, it is a game that no Meta Quest owner should miss, whether they are a fan of the famous anime or not.
