Nightdive Studios has confirmed that Thief: The Dark Project will include a new original campaign. Its title is The Tarnished Mirror, but they’ve decided not to reveal any new details about it yet, either in terms of plot or content. And the reason is that its existence has leaked because of Steam.
A damn leak
This leak happened because of an error in the API that automatically indexed third-party services, exposing private achievement lists from more than 50 unreleased or still-unannounced games. This is how the existence of several previously unknown games has come to light, as well as details about some highly anticipated games, like Kingdom Hearts IV or Persona 6. It also revealed that this remaster of Thief: The Dark Project will come with a completely original campaign.
Fortunately, Nightdive Studios have handled it with humor. In the trailer they made for this, Garrett, the game’s protagonist, quips, “uh… it isn’t so secret anymore, is it?”, showing YouTube comments about the leak and presenting the new campaign.
In any case, we’ll still have to wait a little longer to know the details of the campaign. Their intention was to present it on November 2 and that hasn’t changed, since it’ll be that day when we learn all the details behind this mysterious The Tarnished Mirror. In the meantime, we do know that Thief: The Dark Project will be a remaster that will include visual improvements, 4K support, 120 FPS, quality-of-life improvements and, surely, on November 2 we’ll also finally learn its release date. If Steam doesn’t leak it first.
