The series stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who will play Salt, a Silurian with a more human appearance than her predecessors, and Russell Tovey, known for his role in Barclay. It will also feature Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, a character who has been part of the Whoniverse since 2011.
An Intimate Relationship with an Old Spin-off of the Series
The creator Russell T Davies, who was also responsible for Torchwood, is trying to achieve a significant tonal shift in this new series. Expectations are high, given the success of the previous series and its ability to offer deeper and more complex stories. However, the challenge lies in transferring the hyperbolic nature of Doctor Who to a more serious and realistic science fiction framework. Although the narrative promises an innovative approach, the background of Torchwood, which has included ups and downs, creates some uncertainty about the effectiveness of this transition.
Its reception will have a considerable impact on the future of the Doctor Who universe, especially since there are currently no confirmations of a new season of the main series. The War Between the Land and the Sea thus positions itself as the only new project in this context, adding more pressure on its success. As the premieres approach, the fan community will be closely watching whether this series can capture the dark and captivating essence of Torchwood in a contemporary context.

At the event, Tennant revealed that he would have liked to star in a role in the upcoming Walt Disney Studios production, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This revelation has sparked speculation among attendees, who imagined the actor using his iconic TARDIS to land in the Marvel universe. The passion he shows for superheroes suggests a genuine interest in exploring roles in this type of cinematic storytelling.
Tennant’s connection to the world of comics is not new; his ability to portray complex and charismatic characters makes him ideal for a role in any major franchise. As the superhero genre continues to dominate the box office, it is logical that an actor of his caliber would have ambitions in this field. A new season of Doctor Who is approaching, and we can already hear the music of the intro with the TARDIS floating. The highly anticipated second season of Doctor Who, which actually corresponds to the 15th season of the series, will be released on May 12, 2025. This return of the famous time traveler will be seen internationally through Disney+, promising to bring the iconic series to a new global audience. The first trailer was revealed during the 2025 Oscars gala, generating great excitement among fans.
In this new season, the Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, will be joined by Varada Sethu, who will portray Belinda, his new companion. Together, they will embark on an epic odyssey to try to return Belinda to Earth, facing a mysterious force that hinders their return and terrifying dangers ranging from fierce enemies to unprecedented horrors.
One of the most intriguing antagonists will be the animated Mr. Ring-a-Ding, who will be played by Alan Cumming. This is not the Scottish actor’s first encounter with the series; previously, he had portrayed King James I in 2018, during a past era under the direction of Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker.
The cast of this season is diverse and includes other notable personalities such as Ruby Sunday, Anita Dobson, Bonnie Langford, and Jemma Redgrave, among others. Additionally, the new episodes will take place in fascinating settings like the intergalactic Eurovision, further fueling interest in the adventures that the Doctor and his TARDIS team will face.
With its blend of science fiction, humor, and drama, the new installment of Doctor Who promises to maintain the innovative spirit of the series, while introducing new characters and storylines that will continue to capture the imagination of viewers.
This mod turns Elden Ring into the most famous episode of Doctor Who, making it a horror game… And a truly terrifying one
Elden Ring received numerous Game of the Year awards during 2022. That explains why the game remains as vibrant as the day it was released. Even while waiting for its announced DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, the community hasn’t waited for From Software to add new content to continue enjoying the title. That’s where modders come in. And the latest mod made for Elden Ring is not only brilliant but also reminiscent of the most famous episode of Doctor Who.
“Sinister Statues” is a new Elden Ring mod that invites us to experience the Lands Between in a completely different way than we’ve done in the past. In this mod, all enemies will remain completely still. Except every time we turn our backs or blink, they will lunge at us, returning to a motionless state when we look at them directly again. This creates constant tension by never being able to take our eyes off our enemies or fleeing from them without exposing ourselves to potentially greater dangers.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s directly inspired by an episode of Doctor Who. In episode 188 of the series, titled “Blink,” there were a series of alien-like statues that could only move when nobody was looking at them. This concept resulted in one of the most satisfying horror episodes in the series’ history and is often remembered as the most iconic episode of Doctor Who.
Sinister Statues takes that concept and brings it into Elden Ring, introducing a new mechanic called blinking. Now, whenever we encounter an enemy, we’ll have to blink at regular intervals. The less health we have, the longer our eyes will stay closed, leaving us more exposed. Our only way to prevent this is by trying not to blink, something we can do by pressing the action button to consciously keep our eyes open, at least for the duration allowed by our maximum health.
If you’ve already finished Elden Ring, are a fan of Doctor Who, or want to turn From Software’s latest soulslike into a horror game, Sinister Statues is the mod you’ve been waiting for. It’s a true fantasy we didn’t know we wanted but turns out we needed.
It's the day: Doctor Who arrives on Disney+, and we tell you all the reasons why you should be as excited as we are about it
Not every day you turn 60. Today we celebrate exactly that with Doctor Who, one of the longest-running and beloved series in British television, and probably in global science fiction. And there are good reasons for it. Whether you’re a seasoned Doctor Who fan or someone approaching it for the first time, you have good reasons to be excited about this anniversary. Especially because we already have you covered on everything you need to know to enjoy this fantastic journey.
Doctor Who is premiering on Disney+ with three specials to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Titled “The Stellar Beast,” “The Wild Blue Yonder,” and “The Laugh,” we only know one thing for sure: the Doctor’s past is going to be of great importance here. It’s not for nothing that he reincarnates into one of his former forms for the first time, becoming the Fifteenth Doctor in a form very similar to the Tenth Doctor, accompanied by his two companions, Rose Tyler and Donna Noble, and facing a villain who hasn’t appeared in 57 years: The Toymaker.
All of this will serve as a link to the next season of Doctor Who, which will be the fourteenth. Fortunately, it is perfectly viable to watch the series without having seen the previous thirteen seasons.
In addition, these three episodes will have an exceptional cast. With David Tennant playing The Doctor and Neil Patrick Harris as The Toymaker, the rest of the cast includes Yasmin Finney, Jacqueline King, Karl Collins, and Ruth Madeley. With Ncuti Gatwa making his appearance as the sixteenth Doctor, making this three-part special particularly interesting. As it will also introduce us to the new incarnation of the character.
This special premieres today on Disney+. The first episode will air on November 25, with the next two announced for December 1 and 8. And although there is no date yet for the fourteenth season of Doctor Who, it is likely that we won’t have to wait much once we enter 2024.
Doctor Who comes to Disney+: What can I watch to catch up? Well, we make a selection of the episodes you need so you don’t miss anything.
Starting to watch Doctor Who today can be intimidating. It’s been airing since 2005, focusing solely on its modern iteration. However, wanting to see the 60th-anniversary specials doesn’t mean you have to watch everything released until now. You can watch just a selection of episodes that will give you a clear picture, like the one we’re presenting here.
We’ll be leaving out many things: fantastic episodes, significant pieces of lore, and entire stages without mention. But our goal is to provide you with the information you need to catch up as quickly as possible. And if you get hooked, then you have a fabulous journey ahead of you.
Although there’s a Doctor before and three others after him, the primary and most significant for the 60th anniversary is Tennant. That’s why, to catch up, you have two possibilities. You can either watch the seasons starring him, spanning from episode 169 to 202, or opt for a selection of key episodes. Those episodes are as follows:
The first appearance of the character, explaining briefly how the character’s regeneration powers work, is a highly recommended Christmas special called “The Christmas Invasion.” The next relevant episode is 178, titled “Runaway Bride,” where the Tenth Doctor meets his new companion, a pivotal character in his story and in what’s to come for his 60th anniversary: Donna Noble. She will also play a crucial role in the intense two-part finale that marked the end of the Tenth Doctor’s story, or so it was thought then, in episodes 198a and 198b titled “The Stolen Earth” and “Journey’s End.”
Calling oneself Matt Smith is also important
To understand what will happen later, we need three episodes from the Eleventh Doctor that established elements of the lore for the events of the 60th anniversary. These took place in episodes 202, 229, and 240.
The first is “The End of Time,” where not only is David Tennant’s official farewell given, but also the Doctor’s regeneration into a new actor, Matt Smith, takes place. The most interesting aspect of this episode is the resurrection of the Doctor’s great archenemy, known as the Master, and the return of the Time Lords. In the following episode, “The Power of Three,” we discover that a legend from Gallifrey, the Doctor’s planet, turns out to be true and threatens the extinction of humanity. And in the last one, “The Day of the Doctor,” the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors unite to confront a terrible threat, meeting in the process an incarnation of the Doctor that we had never known before: the Warrior Doctor, the Fourth Doctor.
The final key piece
With all of this, we have all the elements to understand, at least in broad strokes, what’s to come in the 60th anniversary. One key piece is missing, though ideally, we should watch the entire era of Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. But it’s only necessary to watch episode 300, “The Power of the Doctor.” In this episode, it’s explained why the Tenth Doctor returns as the Fourteenth Doctor in an adventure where many of the Doctors throughout history face a terrible threat.
With these seven episodes, it should be possible to follow the three episodes of the upcoming Doctor Who special. Of course, we don’t know what will happen in those episodes, so there might be aspects of lore or history that need to be known to grasp all the details. But with this, you should be able to follow this celebration of one of television’s longest-running series without any problem.
We present you exclusively a new card from the Doctor Who Magic: The Gathering collection, based on a classic gadget from The Doctor
Doctor Who is a beloved series both within and beyond the Anglophone sphere. That’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that it’s making its way into a versatile and flexible game like Magic: The Gathering. In recent years, Magic has opened itself up to various collaborations, aiming to explore different worlds. Now, the Doctor arrives with the TARDIS to confront their most formidable enemies, aided by their invaluable companions and, perhaps, a bit of temporal chaos here and there.
Magic: The Gathering’s Doctor Who collection includes four commander decks with intriguing names like Blast from the Past, Timey-Wimey, Paradox Power, and Masters of Evil. Each deck covers a different era of our beloved Doctor and a different aspect of their character, except for the last one, which, as evident, focuses entirely on their most formidable enemies. Primarily the Daleks, the Cybermen, and the many (so many!) incarnations of the Master.
Being legal in Legacy, Vintage, and Commander formats, which we refer to as the eternal formats, this collection is designed for formats where all Magic: The Gathering sets are available. This ensures there are no restrictions on the power level of the cards. After all, when you come from Gallifrey, it’s hard to confine yourself within human limits.
But beyond the general aspects, today we’ve come to talk about something more specific. About a card from the Magic: The Gathering – Doctor Who collection, which has been previously unreleased until now. Wizards of the Coast has graciously provided us with this card exclusively for you to see for the first time. A card that will be very familiar to those who are acquainted with the character.
Psychic Paper is an Equipment that appears in both the Timey-Wimey and Paradox Power decks, costing 2 generic mana to cast and another 2 mana to equip. When equipped, the creature gains ward 1, can’t be blocked, and takes on the name and creature type of our choice at the time of equipping. This can be very useful when you want to prevent a Needle from allowing card abilities, want one of your creatures to pose as a Time Lord, or perhaps just need a bit of creature type support in your deck.
Why it can do this is evident. It’s psychic paper made from psychic trees of Boda that have helped the Doctor out of many jams during their adventures and shows people what they want to see. But remember, don’t try to use it on Shakespeare. This card doesn’t work on geniuses.
