Could a new Doom be in development? Everything points to yes

It’s possible that a new Doom will be announced soon, as there have been several leaks and comments from journalists pointing in that direction.

Few games are as beloved as Doom. In addition to practically inventing FPS and bringing video games into 3D in a way that was previously unthinkable, it has been one of the games that has had the most influence in the industry. Something they have managed to repeat in Doom (2015) and in Doom Eternal. That’s why the possibility of a new Doom is always received with interest. And it seems that it is something we could have in the near future.

Recently, a project named IDKFA has been registered in the US, a well-known codename for the Doom game series. All of this adds up to Bethesda’s registration of a new Doom game in January. Additionally, last year, in the documents presented during the lawsuit between Activision Blizzard and the FTC, a game named Doom: Year Zero was mentioned to be released in 2024.

To round out the matter, Tom Warren, journalist from The Verge, hinted last week that the announcement of a new Doom would come at the June Xbox event. Something that would fit with all the information we have so far.

Although we don’t have information about who is developing the game, it is most likely being done by id Software, the studio that created the franchise in the first place. So, if it is finally confirmed, we will still have to wait a month to see the game materialize. To approach the Microsoft event with a Doom on the horizon, even with everything that has happened during the past week, gives us some hope.

A person has played Doom Eternal of 2020 for 53 consecutive years. Wait, how is that possible?

He encountered an unexpected surprise: he had given, apparently, over 400,000 hours. Specifically, 464,517.

Thirty years ago, John Carmack and John Romero created Doom, a game for DOS in a stunning 3D for its time that has set a precedent and is still being published to this day. It has had everything from comics to novels to two indescribable movies. And, of course, the saga has continued throughout the decades. Its latest main installment, Doom Eternal, the seventh in the saga, was nominated for Game of the Year and, according to many, should have won. But there’s a twist.

Killing demons half life

A player of Doom Eternal, when turning on the game the other day and checking the statistics on PS5, came across an unexpected surprise: apparently, he had played for over 400,000 hours. Specifically, 464,517, which is a little over 53 years without stopping to eat, sleep, or do anything else but play. It could be a hobby like any other if it weren’t for the fact that the game was released in 2020 and the numbers just don’t add up.

Sadly, it’s not that the user revealed themselves as a time traveler (especially because after so many years, they wouldn’t even have achieved platinum), but rather, it is supposed to be an error from Sony that comes from the Unix era, a system that counts the number of seconds since January 1, 1970 and is used by many systems and programming languages.

In this way, there are ‘GTA 5’ players for PS5 who have 468,164 hours or, even worse, from ‘God Of War Ragnarok’ with 463,451. Even some have saved data from 2058. An absolute madness that is now fun but in the near future can cause a similar effect to the year 2000 (only this time for real).

Sony has not said anything yet, and it is not clear if they will fix it anytime soon. Hey, being the person in the world who has played ‘Doom Eternal’ the most, even by accident, is something to put in your Tinder bio.

The best Christmas deals on Steam

The Christmas deals have arrived on Steam, and so you don’t miss anything, we provide you with a summary of the best ones that you should definitely consider.

With Christmas comes the parties, the celebrations, and the holidays. Some people like them and some people despise them, but they are inevitable. Whether we like them or not, they are something we have to go through. Similarly, there is something that Christmas brings us that no one dislikes: the Steam winter sales. This year, like every year, they bring us a tempting selection of games to choose from.

But it is very likely that you have started browsing the page and do not know what to choose. There are many things and sometimes it is difficult to know what is a good deal and what is not. Or even which games are worth it. But you don’t have to worry. That’s what we’re here for. To guide you on which offers are the ones you shouldn’t miss for anything in the world.

Baldur’s Gate 3 (€53.99 | -10%)

In addition to being one of the best games of the year, celebrated almost unanimously, it is a game that has not yet had any offers. Until now. If it has won the game of the year title at the Games Awards it is for a good reason, and that’s why, if you haven’t bought it yet, now is a good time. Although its 10% discount is, by all means, extremely discreet, we do not expect to see a discount of at least 25% on this game until, at least, next summer. So it’s not a bad idea to take advantage of the Christmas excuse to get the game of the year.

Dave The Driver (€15.99 | -20%)

Although it has been accompanied by controversy as to whether it should be considered indie when it has a multinational behind it, the fact that it is technically not an indie does not take away from it being an extraordinarily charming game. Funny, agile, and with a lot of personality, Dave The Diver is one of the most likable games of the year, taking the concept of fishing much further than we might think at first. Especially because it constantly changes mechanics. With a 20% discount, normally costing 20 euros, there is no reason not to give it a try.

Doom Eternal (€9.99 | -75%)

There is only one Doom and a sequel to the game can only aspire to keep the spirit of the original by doing something different. That’s what Doom Eternal does. Very fast, very furious, it turns the concept of the arena and the need to use the precise weapon at the right moment into an art that makes this game a choreography of explosions, guts, and bullets. With very few dark spots, basically some questionable platforms and some midbosses that break the flow of the game, this is the best shooter you can play that is not the original Doom.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (€4.79 | -84%)

You may want a very long game. One that you can spend endless hours on. And you’re already tired of Fallout 4 and Skyrim, which you’ve already played inside out. Well, we have the perfect alternative for you. You can play Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. An RPG in the western style with a certain aroma of JRPG in its cinematics and how it approaches certain aesthetic elements, but reminiscent of the classics of the genre. Plus, with its second installment announced for February, it’s the perfect preparation. And it promises endless hours for a really ridiculous amount of money.

Steam DOWNLOAD

GTAV: Premium Edition (€14.98 | -63%

Now that GTAVI has been announced, it’s the perfect time to play GTAV. We are aware that it’s a lot to assume that you don’t have GTAV, but it’s perfectly possible that there is still some human being on planet Earth who doesn’t have GTAV. Or even worse. It could be someone you know! Maybe it’s someone you would like to give a gift to. And could you make them happier than by giving them the fifth installment of GTA to accompany you in your excitement for the announcement of the sixth installment? We believe not.

SIGNALIS (€13.99 | -30%)

Inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion and Silent Hill, this horror and science fiction game is one of the best indie games of last year. If not the best indie game of last year. Or the best indie game, in general. Now with a 30% discount, we can only recommend one thing: buy it. If you are a fan of any of the things we mentioned, or if you watch the trailer and are attracted to what you see, go for it. You won’t regret it.

STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor (34.99€ | -50%)

Although it was released full of bugs, STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor is a game that has been improving over time. Now it is a game that improves everything compared to its predecessor, offering a richer story, deeper gameplay, and spectacular graphics without the issues it had in its PC version release. If we add to that the fact that you can get it at half price, it seems like it’s time to get a game that we should reconsider if it was worth it.

El Caso del Ídolo Dorado (€12.59 | -30%)

A murder has been committed and your duty is to discover how it happened. This detective game exposes you to bizarre and tremendously complex situations where your tools are always the same: texts of all kinds where there are gaps that you will have to fill in with the names, dates, places, and objects that you find at the crime scene. In this way, you will have to tell a coherent story with what happened, deducing what happened at the scene. An extraordinary game that you shouldn’t miss.

Calling All Gamers: Grab the Game of the Year 2020 at an Unbelievably Affordable Price!

The GOTY of 2020, Doom Eternal, is on sale at an outrageous price, and we give you a few reasons to run and buy it.

Doom is a foundational videogame. The modern shooter would not be understood without what idSoftware did at the time and that’s why, after its excellent first four installments, nobody expected that it would be possible to continue making shooters in that way. Making a new Doom seemed impossible, because everything had already been said. The genre had gone down other paths and there was no longer room or possibility for something as brutal and visceral as the franchise that created it all. Until Doom appeared in 2016, a twist that showed that there was still a lot of ground to explore on that front, which was demonstrated in the 2020 GOTY: Doom Eternal.

With a much more focused story, but without abandoning the sensations derived from killing waves of demons, encouraging us to improvise what weapon is best against each enemy that appears in each phase, with scenarios full of secrets and an outrageous level of violence, which is always so exaggerated that it is extremely funny, Doom Eternal is everything that was the Doom of 2016, but refined. Much larger scenarios, more varied and sharply focused weapons, more satisfying executions, and much simpler and more natural stage navigation.

Steam DOWNLOAD

Doom Eternal is a true landmark of design, taking the modern shooter to a whole new dimension to the one we knew. Accessible to those who are not used to playing games of the genre, or who have never played a Doom before, but challenging for those who have played all the games of the franchise backwards and forwards, thanks to its difficulty levels and its challenging collectibles and optional stages, Doom Eternal is everything we dreamed Doom could be in 2020 and much more. A true prodigy of the modern video game.

Now on offer on Steam, you can take advantage of up to 75% discount on the base game, and 60% on its Eternal Deluxe edition. A really crazy price for one of the best shooters of recent years, if not the best.
