DC revives one of its strangest ideas: Batman against three different Jokers.

DC, instead of leaving the story forgotten like so many others, has decided to redouble its efforts.

If you’ve only seen the Batman movies, you’re probably wondering what on earth we’re talking about. Batman against one Joker, as it’s been since Adam West did the series in the 60s, right? Well… not exactly. We have to go back to 2020 when Geoff Johns planted a seed in DC that no one had picked up until now: What if it turns out that the Joker, actually… is three different people?

The joker bad luck

Three Jokers: the Criminal, in the early days of the character, much more serious and methodical than the others; the Clown, who came up with very strange plans in the DC comics of the 50s and 60s; and the Trickster, the most current and malicious, apparently the original Joker. The original story had much more to it, of course: the killer of Bruce Wayne’s parents died in a hospital bed, the Joker’s wife was pregnant in a witness protection program, and the Jokers kill each other until only the Trickster is left alive. Quite a story.

In the following years, doubts persisted about the continuity of this crazy idea, despite the writer’s insistence that it was canon in the comics and had nothing to do with parallel realities or alternate worlds. Now, instead of letting the story be forgotten like many others, DC has decided to double down on their efforts.

It was in issue 125 of ‘Batman,’ which marked the beginning of Chip Zdarsky as the series’ writer, where the return of this wild idea was hinted at: in a dream, the trio of Jokers is waiting for him, alive and well, confirming that the original story did indeed happen. However, there are not just three Jokers; at least two more have appeared in the series ‘The Man Who Laughed’ and ‘Harley Quinn.’ Instead of sweeping their failed storylines under the rug, DC has decided to step on the gas and see where it takes us. We recently saw a battle involving 13 Joker clones, so everything is yet to be decided. Let the bat-madness begin!

Watch: final ‘Joker’ trailer gives us first look at Robert De Niro

Still too early to tell whether or not ‘Joker’ will be the saving grace DC needs.

Joker

With just a little more than a month until it comes out, the final trailer for “Joker” has given us the first look at Robert De Niro’s character.

De Niro is playing Murray Franklin, a Johnny Carson-like character who mocks Joker during his late-night talk show.

It looks like Franklin might be the final straw that causes Joker to snap and become the Clown Prince of Crime. After being shunned by society, getting the snot kicked out of him, and finally mocked so publicly, Joker looks like he finally wants to get even with the world.

It’s still up for debate whether or not “Joker” will be a hit or a flop. It could be just what DC needs to get out of their slump, or it could be high school theater.

We’ll keep our hopes up for now, but we’d highly recommend that you wait for the first reviews to come out before you see this one for yourself.

Spawn, Joker, and the Terminator coming to Mortal Kombat 11

DLC characters and more have been announced for Mortal Kombat 11!

Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat fans rejoice!

We finally got to see the DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 11, and we are hyped. Joining the world of Mortal Kombat, we have Joker, Spawn, and the Terminator. Also, Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, and Sindel are also returning to the arena! Each character will be getting new skins and gear that will also be in the DLC. There will also be 19 additional skins for other characters.

This isn’t Joker’s first time entering the carnage that is Mortal Kombat. In 2008, he appeared in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. That game was decent, but the lack of gory fatalities upset hardcore fans of the series.

Speaking of the Joker, we have to talk about his new look:

Joker

Although he isn’t sporting tattoos and grills like in “Suicide Squad,” this younger-looking Joker still looks… off-putting. He doesn’t look much like the Clown Prince of Crime, and instead kinda looks like some weird kid’s cosplay.

Shang Tsung and Nightwolf are available now. The Terminator will be available in October. Sindel is coming in November. Joker is coming in January and Spawn is coming in March.

Joker, Terminator, Spawn, and more reportedly leaked for Mortal Kombat 11 DLC

Some pop culture legends are joining the fight.

Another day, another Mortal Kombat leak.

The Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 11 has been datamined, revealing some interesting guest characters for future DLC. In this Reddit post, user /u/LeoNatan lists out a series of strings, as well as a step-by-step process for anyone who’d like to verify that these lists actually exist in the code. The code has been confirmed to actually exist in the game, so unless the references to these new guest characters are red herrings, they are coming to MK11 in future DLC packs. Without further ado, here are the leaked characters:

Joker

joker mortal kombat 11

Batman’s archnemesis, the Joker, will be making his Mortal Kombat debut. While the Joker was featured both in Netherrealm’s Injustice series and Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, this marks the first time the Clown Prince of Crime appears in a mainline Mortal Kombat game. With the Joker standalone movie coming later this year, it makes sense for publisher Warner Bros to promote the character, just as they promoted the “Suicide Squad” characters in Injustice 2.

Though Joker is known for his murderous and sadistic tendencies, it’s interesting that DC is allowing one of their characters, even Joker, to participate in the gory mayhem of Mortal Kombat, as Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe had significantly toned down gore and neutered fatalities. Still, Joker is a perfect fit for the Mortal Kombat universe, and I can’t wait to see what kind of insane fatalities that he’ll pull off.

Leaked dialogue:

Joker: “You know, you remind me of Bats.”

Terminator: “Who?”

Joker: “Just another jerk with no sense of humor.”

Joker: “You look like a hugger, bring it in!”

Spawn: “I’ll turn you inside-out ass-first, clown.”

Joker: “I love it when they talk dirty!”

Terminator

The Terminator, specifically the T-800 from “T2: Judgment Day,” blasts onto the scene in Mortal Kombat 11. The franchise is obviously no stranger to cyborgs, including fan favorites like Sektor and Cyrax, so Arnie should have no trouble fitting in. Like Joker, Terminator also has a movie coming later this year in “Terminator: Dark Fate.” Judging by some of the leaked dialogue, it’s clear the developers are diehard fans of the series, as well as other Arnold films. Fun fact: Kano’s eye laser and heart rip fatalities were originally inspired by the Terminator itself, so hopefully it can return the favor.

Leaked dialogue:

Terminator: Your guns and your cape, give them to me.

Spawn: You forgot to say please.

Terminator: F*** you, asshole.

Terminator: “Take me to Sarah Connor.”

Cassie Cage: “Aw can’t, gotta get to the choppa.”

Terminator: “Now.”

Spawn

spawn leak mortal kombat 11

Arguably the most-requested guest character in Mortal Kombat history, fans can finally rest easy that Spawn is coming. An icon of ’90s edgy independent comics, Spawn is one of the industry’s quintessential anti-heroes. Spawn is additionally getting a Jamie Foxx-led movie coming in the near future, though details are scarce as of now. Spawn’s demonic aesthetic and brutal powerset make him a natural fit for Mortal Kombat, and it’ll be fun to see his interactions with other hellspawn like Scorpion.

Leaked dialogue:

Cassie Cage: “Guns, magic, you can’t just choose?”

Spawn: “I go both ways.”

Cassie Cage: “That explains the fetish gear.”

Spawn: “You’ve been to other dimensions?”

Scorpion: “Each had its own injustices.”

Spawn: “Maybe that’s why my soul still burns.”

Ash Williams

ash williams mortal kombat 11 leak

Deadites beware: the boomstick wielding, chainsaw-armed buffoon Ash Williams has entered the fray. The semi-competent hero of the “Evil Dead” trilogy and its numerous spinoffs, Ash Williams uses his quick wit, unconventional weaponry, and “charm” to put undead baddies in their place. Ash has battled everyone from zombified Marvel heroes to Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, so he should be able to handle his own against Sub-Zero and company.

Leaked dialogue:

Ash: “Fancy leathers, who’s your tailor?”

Spawn: “How’d you like to wear that smile on your ass?”

Ash: “No thanks, I only wear American denim.”

Returning Mortal Kombat characters

Guest characters weren’t the only ones that leaked. Returning kombatants include the shape-shifting villain Shang Tsung, Native American sorcerer warrior Nightwolf, the ear-piercing Sindel, and the four-armed Sheeva. Curiously, the leak also mentions Fujin as a playable character. Fujin is a demi-god like Raiden, though he controls the wind. He debuted in the infamously awful spinoff Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero as a boss before becoming playable in Mortal Kombat 4.

Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ gets first trailer

Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker offers a fresh take of the classic character.

Joaquin Phoenix as JokerAfter several films with mixed results, the DC cinematic universe looks like it might just get the last laugh.

Today, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for “Joker,” the new standalone film for the clown-prince of crime. The film is set to be released on Oct. 4 this year, but you can watch the trailer now:

The character

Thankfully, Joaquin Phoenix appears to be giving the Joker his own unique identity. He isn’t copying Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger’s characters. He is also not taking something completely out-of-left-field like Jared Leto.

This Joker has an element of tragedy to his character, coupled with the growing negativity oozing from Gotham City.

For the first time since Tim Burton’s 1989 film “Batman,” the Joker will be getting a backstory on the silver screen. His true identity in this film will be a failing comedian named Arthur Fleck.

Joker unmaksedFans may be turned off by adding a backstory to the character (shrouding him in mystery is the usual treatment). However, the Joker himself gave a bit of insight into his character in the graphic novel “Batman: The Killing Joke.”

“Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another. If I’m going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice.”

Basically, you should accept the film as one interpretation of how the Joker went mad, rather than the universal truth.

The story

Beat-up JokerThe beginning of the movie looks like it’s gonna be pretty bleak for the Joker. From being harassed at work to being beaten on the subway, it’s not hard to see why the harlequin eventually takes his rage out on Gotham.

Along with beatings from criminals of Gotham, we get several other ideas of what might lead to Joker’s breaking point.

A scene featuring Joker washing his mother’s hair in a bath shows that he has a very close relationship with her. His mother doesn’t appear to be the only woman in his life, as Joker also has a female therapist and a female friend/love-interest.

In one iteration of the Joker, a contributing factor to his insanity was the untimely death of his wife. Though the trailer doesn’t hint at an ill fate for the women in Joker’s life, one bad day for them might be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

As Joker said in “Killing Joke,” “All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. That’s how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day.”

Along with seeing a therapist, Joker appears to make an attempt to maintain his sanity. In one shot, we can see Joker walking towards Arkham Asylum.

Arkham AsylumThe asylum is infamous for making the criminally insane even more insane. If you don’t believe us, there are several video games about the asylum’s impact on Gotham. We love them so much that the games topped our list for the best superhero games ever.

We didn’t get to see any footage of the Joker committing crimes. We did get a hint to the fact that the Joker will attract a following. This is shown in one scene where several Gotham citizens parade the streets in clown masks.

What we hope to see

DC has recently struggled with dark storytelling. The dark tones the writers hope to capture have not fit the plot or characters in the films. The Rotten Tomatoes scores for “Suicide Squad” and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” are evidence of that.

We hope that “Joker” finds the balance that DC has been hoping to capture. The trailer has shown that Joaquin Phoenix definitely has the ability to command the screen in every shot. We just hope that the writers make the story into the circus the Joker deserves.
