Where does the MCU go after Endgame?

As the MCU gets a major shake-up from Endgame, what can we expect in future titles?

Thanos gauntlet

We’re in the Endgame now, and it’s glorious.

“Avengers: Endgame” is here, and with it comes major changes to the MCU. If you have seen the movie, and want to both recap the film and further the discussion, continue reading. If you haven’t seen it, read at your own volition because SPOILERS are ahead. As for the rest of you, buckle up. We have a lot to talk about:

Where does the MCU go after Endgame? SPOILERS BELOW

The AvengersThe original team is pretty much shot

Let’s recap who is left standing, and who is still ready to fight. Captain America has retired and is no longer in fighting condition even if he wanted to come back. Iron Man and Black Widow are both dead. Hulk MIGHT have permanently damaged his arm from using the Infinity Stones. Thor may be able to come back to Earth if he’s needed, but for now, he appears to have joined the Guardians of the Galaxy.

As for Hawkeye, his adventures are far from over. A spin-off Hawkeye series starring Jeremy Renner has been announced for Disney+. We are definitely excited for Disney+ and the show, and we think we have an idea of what the show might entail.

The Hawkeye show will follow him as he trains a potential new Hawkeye, Kate Bishop. This may not be the only person Hawkeye helps train. As one of the only remaining OG Avengers left, Hawkeye may take it upon himself to train a new team altogether. Referred to in the comics as the New Avengers, the new superhero squad may be the future of the MCU.

So who’s dead?

Gamora

To make it clear, Disney and Marvel could change their mind at any time and bring whoever they want back to life. Although we say these characters are dead, we can’t say for certain.

The feeling we got from Endgame is that if you died from the first snap, you’re alive now. However, if you died by other means you’re probably still dead.

The Gamora we knew is most likely dead. The movie made it clear that if you are sacrificed to get the Soul Stone, you’re not coming back. However, we now have a Gamora from a completely different timeline. We don’t know with 100% certainty whether or not she got dusted in Tony’s final snap. We just can’t imagine her final moment with Starlord would’ve been a knee to the balls. Although, we all wanted to do that to him after he inadvertently caused the first snap.

Both Black Widow and Iron Man are both probably completely dead. Black Widow got Soul Stone-d, and Iron Man couldn’t handle the power of the Infinity Stones. However, that doesn’t mean we are done seeing Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. in MCU movies.

Scarlett Johansson is set to do a standalone Black Widow movie. As we don’t know much about her origins in the MCU, an origin story seems like the best route. As to who the villain may or may not be, we think it might just be Winter Soldier as the two have a history.

We don’t see Iron Man coming back to life any time soon. His death seemed very final and fitting for the character. We could see Robert Downey Jr. reprising the role in a prequel, but unless he comes back like how Cap did in “Secret Invasion,” we don’t see him returning.

That just leaves two main heroes that died from something other than the snap, Heimdall and Vision. Heimdall was stabbed by Thanos at the beginning of “Avengers: Infinity War.” The reverse snap didn’t bring him back to life, so we can assume Idris Elba won’t be returning to the MCU. As for Vision, we’re pretty sure he’s coming back, and Disney has all but confirmed it.

“WandaVision” is set to come out for Disney+. We don’t know many details about the show other than the fact that Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany will be reprising their roles. The two lived together in secret between “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” Although it is possible the show takes place between those films, it is much more likely that Black Panther’s sister Shuri figured out how to bring Vision back without the Mind Stone.

What about Loki and the Loki show on Disney+?

Loki

So here’s where things get a little complicated. In “Avengers: Infinity War,” Loki 100% died. However, due to some tomfoolery with time travel, Loki isn’t gone in every timeline.

After fumbling around with the Space Stone during the events of the original Avengers, Loki was able to snatch it and make an escape. Tom Hiddleston is starring as Loki in a series for Disney+ as well.

Our guess is that the show will follow this alternate timeline Loki. As the God of Mischief, we are guessing that this new timeline will suffer some wild results. It could be that this show will follow in the tracks of the “What If” series. It’s a bit of a pipe dream to expect Robert Downey Jr. or Chris Evans to make regular appearances on a “What If” style show. However, cameos here and there from various Avengers would be appreciated.

Falcon is the new Captain America

Falcon Captain AmericaAlong with passing Falcon his shield, Steve Rogers also passed him the torch.

Fans have speculated if Falcon or Winter Soldier would take up the mantle of Captain America if Steve Rogers were to die or retire. Both have replaced Rogers in the comics, so both were suitable replacements. When Falcon strapped the shield to his arm, we couldn’t have been happier. Anthony Mackie has been doing a great job as Falcon, and we are excited to see what he does moving forward with Disney+’s “Falcon and The Winter Soldier.”

We can’t imagine Falcon retiring his wings. However, we can imagine him in a more star-spangled outfit along with busting out the vibranium shield from time to time.

The Asgardians of the Galaxy

Asgardians of the galaxy

Thor’s throwaway joke at the end of Endgame may not be entirely inaccurate.

When Thor referred to the Guardians of the Galaxy as the “Asgardians of the Galaxy,” he may have given a small clue. “Asgardians of the Galaxy” is actually a comic series from Marvel. It features several powerful Asgardians and their adventures throughout the galaxy.

We don’t expect the full cast of Asgardians of the Galaxy to make their way to “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” but we could see a few characters making appearances. Since we already have a talking raccoon, why not add a talking frog and a weird horse-thing?

Movies we know are coming

Although we only have a trailer for “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” there are still more upcoming MCU films confirmed by Disney and Marvel.

An article from Time confirms several upcoming MCU films as well as upcoming Marvel films in general. Along with another Spider-Man movie, we are also getting sequels for Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange.

Kevin Feige recently confirmed a movie featuring the Eternals. The Eternals are another superhero team. They are like the Avengers meet the Guardians of the Galaxy. They defend Earth, but they also travel through the galaxy. Thanos was a member of the Eternals in the comics, so it will interesting to see if he makes an appearance in a flashback.

The Eternals

Marvel has also confirmed a standalone Shang-Chi movie. Shang-Chi is a martial arts master similar to Iron Fist. We don’t have any plot details or even casting decisions, but if we get something similar to a Jet Li or Bruce Lee movie, we’ll be happy.

Finally, we know that we are getting a Ms. Marvel film. As for this one, we actually know a few things. This iteration of Ms. Marvel will be Kamala Khan, a teenage Pakistani girl living in New Jersey. Khan idolizes Captain Marvel and is taught how to be a hero by her. We don’t have casting decisions or a release date yet, but we really have our hopes up for this one.

What can we assume for the sequels?

The “Spider-Man: Far From Home” trailer shows Peter with Ned, MJ, Flash and Aunt May. As none of them appear to have aged much since “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” we’re guessing they all were killed in the snap, or else they would be five years older.

There is a theory that the film takes place before “Avengers: Infinity War.” However, a Sony producer recently told Insider that the film takes place not long after “Avengers: Endgame.”

There are two big loose ends that we can expect to be cleared up in upcoming sequels. First and foremost is Adam Warlock:

Adam Warlock is more than likely going to be the main focus of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” It has yet to be confirmed whether or not Zoe Saldana will reprise her role as Gamora, but we don’t see her being omitted altogether. What we do know is that a movie with Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy fighting Adam Warlock sounds incredible.

At the end of “Doctor Strange,” Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character Mordo announces his plans to kill the Earth’s wizards. The question remains whether or not Mordo was killed in the snap. If he wasn’t, what has he been doing? If he was, has he had a change of heart? We don’t know much about “Doctor Strange 2,” but we are expecting to see Mordo and Doctor Strange settle the score.

Wrapping up

“Avengers Endgame” was just about perfect.

Three words: Cap wields Mjolnir.

We got the fan service we’ve been craving, and we aren’t left with too many unanswered questions. Although we are sad to see some of our heroes bite the dust, we are left completely satisfied.

Coolest Easter eggs in Endgame

SPOILERS INBOUND: Check out the coolest Easter eggs in Endgame

thanos scarecrow

If we were to list each and every Easter egg and reference in “Avengers: Endgame,” we would basically recite the entire film line for line. The movie has references to nearly all of the 20+ films in the MCU, and it is not shy about using them.

Rather than basically typing out the movie in its entirety, we thought we’d narrow it down to the best. Read at your own will; there are spoilers ahead.

The coolest Easter eggs in Endgame SPOILERS BELOW

The classic Ant-Man suit

Classic Ant-manAfter going back in time to retrieve the Space Stone, Captain America finds himself in Hank Pym‘s lab. Pym, the original Ant-Man, is stockpiling Pym particles, which the Avengers need in order to travel through time. However, the Pym particles aren’t the only piece of Ant-Man tech in his lab. On Pym’s desk is a classic, chrome helmet sprouting antenna. The helmet is a direct reference to Ant-Man’s original costume from the comics.

Harley pays his respects… because they’re connected

“Iron Man 3” may not be the best MCU movie by a longshot, but it did have several funny scenes with Tony Stark and his plucky sidekick in the film, Harley.

It’s been a while since we last saw Stark’s first boy wonder or even heard from him. However, during Tony’s funeral Harley does show up to pay his respects. As the camera pans to all the mourners in attendance, we can see Harley in the corner of the screen near Scott Lang and the Pym family.

“Community” callback

Community

The directors of Endgame, the Russo brothers, were also executive producers for the comedy show “Community.” While making Endgame, the directing duo decided to bring some old friends to work on the project, Ken Jeong and Yvette Nicole Brown. Jeong plays a security guard who is surprised when Ant-Man makes his way back through the Quantum Realm. Brown can be seen playing a worker at the army base who gets confused when she runs into Iron Man and Captain America inside an elevator.

New Asgard

After the destruction of Asgard and about half of the remaining Asgardians, Thor brought the residents of his kingdom to a small town in Norway called  Tønsberg. However, this is not the first time we have seen this place.

That’s right; this was the same Norwegian town where Red Skull stole the Tesseract in “Captain America: The First Avenger.” Crazy enough, this still isn’t the only time we’ve seen it:

After Loki sent Odin to a retirement community on Earth, Doctor Strange moved the aging king to Tønsberg. In a later vision, Odin tells Thor, “Asgard is not a place; it’s a people.” He then looks around at the area they’re in and says, “This could be Asgard.” Little did we know how right he was.

Hail Hydra

Captain America Hail Hydra

In one of the most satisfying scenes in the movie, Captain America rides in an elevator with several Hydra sleeper agents. The scene is a callback to the elevator action scene from “Captain America: The Winter Soldier:”

However, this scene doesn’t end with Cap throwing haymakers around. Instead, Cap whispers “Hail Hydra” in the ear of one of the agents. The agent looks confused but ends up trusting him. Along with being a callback to the Winter Soldier movie, the scene is also a reference to the Marvel comic series “Secret Empire.”  In the series, the writers controversially make Captain America himself a Hydra sleeper agent. Some fans were put off by the symbol of American justice and liberty siding with fascist/terrorists. We’re just happy the Russo brothers included this awesome scene.

On your left

The first time we see Falcon in the MCU is in a comical scene in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier:”

Cap continues to lap Falcon during their morning run, constantly saying, “On your left,” as he passes him.

However, in Endgame it is Falcon who finally gets to say the line to Captain America. As Cap faces down Thanos and his army, he gets a message from Falcon who tells him, “On your left.” Right as he says it, the fallen Avengers begin to reappear on the battlefield.

All the cheeseburgers you want

In the very first MCU movie, Tony Stark gives his short list of demands for what he wants after escaping the Ten Rings:

In one of Endgame’s most touching moments, Tony Stark’s friend Happy Hogan sits on a bench with Stark’s daughter Morgan moments after his funeral. Hogan tries to comfort the little girl by asking if he can get her anything. When she says she wants a cheeseburger, Hogan’s eyes begin to well up with tears, and so did ours.

A long-awaited dance

Peggy Carter

Yeah, we all cried when we saw Cap and Peggy Carter finally dance together. The dance was a reference to the first Captain America film, where the two make plans to go out dancing together as Cap faces certain doom.  However, we aren’t here to talk about the dance; we’re talking about the song:

“It’s Been a Long Long Time” not only has an ironic name, but it also has a history in the MCU. In “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” the song is playing in Cap’s apartment in the scene where he talks to Nick Fury about S.H.I.E.L.D. being compromised. The scene is a beautiful moment we never thought we were going to see, but we are thrilled we did.

Much more than just Easter eggs

If you’ve seen Endgame, you know that the movie is much more than just Easter eggs and references. With that being said, we loved seeing these and the dozens of other callbacks to other Marvel titles. Tell us in the comments below what your favorites were, and what you thought about the movie.

New Endgame clip details plan to defeat Thanos

The Avengers plan to resurrect friends with the Infinity Stones in Endgame clip.

Thanos with Mind StoneA new clip which originally aired on “Good Morning America” shows The Avengers’ plan to defeat Thanos in “Avengers: Endgame.”

You can watch the clip followed by the trailer below:

Were the fan theories right? Are the Avengers going to do some crazy antics to bring back their friends? Will we see time travel and/or dimension hopping?  Well, you can read about theories like that below, but this clip has a cut-and-dry plan. The Avengers’ plan is to find Thanos and use the Infinity Stones to resurrect their friends.

Although the clip goes along with the previous trailers we watched, we are still a bit skeptical. The directors of the film have said that they want to preserve the surprise for the story. In fact, some shots in the trailers have been intentionally fake.

The trailer begins with Black Widow announcing that Thanos used the Infinity Stones again. Whether that means that Thanos committed another atrocity is unknown. Since it doesn’t look like the cast went from being halved to quartered, we doubt he snapped his fingers again.

The remaining Avengers debate whether or not going after Thanos is in their best interest. Captain Marvel has a cocky attitude, saying the Avengers has a better shot with her onboard. Bruce Banner and War Machine are a bit skeptical and worry that Thanos will only make matters worse.

We learned a lot from “Captain Marvel,” but we have yet to see if the character is strong enough to tango with the mad titan.

We are closing in on the release for “Avengers: Endgame.” Speculation and theories are at their highest, and we want to hear all of yours. Tell us in the comments below how you think the story will unfold, and who will be left standing when the dust un-settles.

7 things we learned from Captain Marvel

Here’s what you need to know from “Captain Marvel” before you see “Endgame.”

Captain Marvel

The best and worst thing about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that everything connects somehow. If you’re an avid fan, you’re always half watching the films from a more macro approach, hunting for any references or hints related to other installments in the franchise and geeking out about things like Bruce Banner mispronouncing Wakanda, Howard Stark hanging out with Hank Pym, or Ronan the Accuser making a surprise appearance in the new “Captain Marvel.”

While these interconnected moments are awesome if you’re ‘in the know,’ they can make you feel pretty left out if you don’t catch the reference. Since “Avengers: Infinity War” we’ve gotten two standalone movies: “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and “Captain Marvel,” which is still in theaters. As you’d expect, the latter film carries with it a handful of new information pertinent to the MCU: Infinity Stones, warring alien factions, and timey-wimey stuff. If you just left the theater with your head spinning, or if you want to get caught up before “Avengers: Endgame,” here’s a list of seven things we learned from “Captain Marvel.”

Oh, and spoilers ahead:

1. Captain Marvel is crazy powerful

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said in an interview that Captain Marvel “will be the most powerful character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe” and that promise has definitely been kept. With experience both on Earth and on the cosmic scale, space flight, super strength, deadly photon blasts, and combat training that could give Black Widow a run for her money, she’s certainly not lacking for punch, even next to powerhouse characters like Thor, Iron Man, or Hulk.

Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel is basically the MCU’s Superman.

As to how she stacks up to someone like Thanos, it’s tough to say. But the mere sight of her was enough to make Ronan the Accuser turn tail and run. And let’s not forget that she was the first person Nick Fury called when things got too dangerous for comfort. Will she play well with others? Thor seems to like her already.

2. The full path of the tesseract

There have been numerous unexplained jumps in the tesseract’s location throughout the series, and “Captain Marvel” answered one of the biggest ones. After falling out of Captain America’s jet and being recovered by Howard Stark in “Captain America: First Avenger,” the next time we saw the Space Stone was with SHIELD in “Avengers.” Did Stark give it to SHIELD? Were they fruitlessly studying it for all those decades? The answer is no to both questions, as we learn in “Captain Marvel:”

MCU tesseract Space Stone Captain Marvel
This thing keeps trading hands.

The tesseract was being studied by a scientist in the covert Project Pegasus. While she went by the name Dr. Wendy Lawson, the researcher was actually the Kree Mar-vell, who was studying the cube in order to uncover its secrets of hyperspace travel. The cube was stored on her orbiting lab, and that’s where we see it in “Captain Marvel” … where it gets promptly eaten by Goose the cat, er, Flerken. If you stay for the post-credits scene, you’ll get to see Goose cough it up on Fury’s desk.

3. Don’t mess with cats

Among the more important things we learned from “Captain Marvel,” there’s a pretty funny minor detail that finally gets answered: How Nick Fury lost his left eye. Remember the cuddly cat from the above point? Fury got a little too excited about Goose, and the mischievous feline decided to gouge his eye out. No, we’re not kidding.

Nick Fury Goose Captain Marvel
“Last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye.”

Is it an epic tale of vengeance and heroism? Eh. Not really, but it is pretty funny.

Captain Marvel Goose
*purrs innocently*

4. Kree vs Skrulls

As most Marvel fans expected, “Captain Marvel” introduces the famous intergalactic war between the Kree and the Skrull, one of the major ongoing conflicts of the original comics. True to the comics, Carol Danvers herself is a human pilot turned Kree soldier, and the aliens obey the orders and policies of a Supreme Intelligence.

Captain Marvel Kree
“For the good of all Kree!”

Also similar to the comics are the Skrull, shape-shifting green aliens who are locked in a galactic battle against the Kree. Where the movie veers away from the comics, however, is that the Skrull are not the bad guys here. In something of a plot twist, they’re actually searching for a home while being bullied around and exterminated by the Kree. At the film’s midpoint, Danvers opts to side with the Skrull instead of the Kree, promising to help them find a place to call their own.

Captain Marvel Skrull
The Skrull aren’t the bad guys, at least not these Skrull.

5. There are Kree on Earth

It goes like this: Mar-vell was undercover on Earth for years, working to uncover the secrets of the Space Stone. She went unnoticed for all that time, and even had a gigantic invisible Kree science lab orbiting around the planet … which also went unnoticed. Considering that, and that the Kree are actively angry with Danvers after the events of “Captain Marvel,” it seems likely that there are more Kree hiding in plain sight.

Captain Marvel Nick Fury Skrull
Secret Invasion?

And if the Kree had an easy time acclimatizing to Earth, imagine how easy it would be for the shape-shifting Skrull! While the Skrull in Captain Marvel were friendly, that doesn’t mean they’re all like that. It would be very easy (and very in keeping with the comics) for the MCU to cover the Secret Invasion in Phase Four.

6. Fury’s been looking for Avengers since the ’90s

We knew Nick Fury was looking for gifted individuals to put into his ‘Avengers Initiative;’ he told Tony Stark as much as far back as the first “Iron Man” movie. What we didn’t know was how long he’d been actively looking. Turns out Carol Danvers was the one who inspired him to start the project; even her jet was called ‘Avenger,’ as we cleverly see pointed out at the end of the movie.

Captain Marvel Carol Danvers
Good thing her ship wasn’t called ‘The Inhumans’

Fury’s had over 20 years to find more candidates for his program, and he didn’t pick up Iron Man until around 10 years later. Did he find other possible talents during the ten years prior to that? Might we be seeing some of them show up later? We don’t know yet, but it seems unlikely for his efforts to have been fruitless all that time.

Captain Marvel Nick Fury bar
Did Fury’s screening process look something like this?

7. Danvers has been fighting Kree for over 20 years

A fact that’s been glossed over a bit is exactly how long it’s been since Danvers made an official appearance back on Earth. Taking on the whole Kree empire is a lot of work, and Danvers’ absence from the MCU until now hints at a pretty epic story of her adventures off-world. We’d imagine someone of her power, courage, and determination would be able to make a pretty significant dent in the faction in that amount of time (especially given how much she was able to accomplish so shortly after unlocking her full potential). So what’s the status of the Kree empire now?

Captain Marvel ship fight
Will these escapades be the focus of a Captain Marvel sequel?

We already know Ronan’s fate, which must have hurt Kree morale, but we don’t know specific details about the faction’s military strength, plans, or how they were affected by Thanos’ snap. For that matter, we don’t know how it affected the Skrull either. The fact remains that Danvers was away for a very long time. We expect she’ll fill us in on the details in Endgame.

All caught up? Let us know in the comments below how you think Captain Marvel will fit into “Avengers: Endgame,” and we’ll see you in theaters on April 26!

Captain America, Iron Man reunite in final Endgame trailer

The remaining Avengers gear-up for a final showdown with Thanos with the fate of the galaxy in the balance.

Captain America and Iron Man“Do you trust me?”

These words from Tony Stark are the first we have heard him say to Captain America since “Captain America: Civil War.” It perfectly sets the chilling tone for the final trailer for “Avengers: Endgame.”

The trailer ends on a more chilling tone when it says, “Tickets on sale now,” as fans everywhere scrambled to grab their credit cards and jump on Fandango.

The trailer shows the surviving heroes as they plan to save their friends and ultimately defeat Thanos.

Iron Man and Captain America aren’t the only ones to reunite in this trailer as we also get to see Tony Stark and Pepper Potts embrace each other. Marvel confirmed recently that Pepper survived the events of “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Iron Man hugs Pepper

Led by Captain Marvel, the remaining Avengers head off to lay a beatdown on the Mad Titan. The team flies aboard Star-Lord’s ship, The Milano. Despite being the newest entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel appears to be taking a leadership role on the team.

Unlike other trailers for Endgame, this one shows more of Rocket Raccoon than we’ve seen before. One shot of a hopeful-looking Rocket looks like it may take place when he sees the Milano land on Earth. The shot is followed later with another of Nebula comforting a very distraught raccoon.

Toward the end, the trailer focuses on the OG Avengers. Captain America and Iron Man shake hands, saying that they trust each other, hopefully ending their feud. The trailer ends with Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor as they slowly walk toward a barely visible Thanos in the background.

Captain America, Thor, Iron Man walk towards ThanosWe are officially less than a month away from seeing this story finally come to a close after more than a decade of setup. As theaters across the world sell out for what will truly be a record-breaking event, we have to ask if you will be there to avenge the fallen.

32 new Avengers: Endgame posters give clues about the story to come

These images give new insight to the battle ahead.

We’re now exactly one month from the release of “Avengers: Endgame,” and fans are scouring the web for any clue to the fate of our heroes and the strategy they might use to defeat Thanos. (They have to defeat Thanos, don’t they?)

We already know the “Endgame” trailer contains fake shots. We now know the final run-time will be around three hours. But mostly, we’re in the dark. Today, Marvel released a series of posters that (perhaps inadvertently) shed some light on how the film will play out.

32 Avengers posters give hints of the ‘Endgame’ to come

The Survivors

Thor

Thor is obviously beating himself up for not going for the head. We hope he gets another whack at Thanos’ head in the movie.

Iron Man

Tony Stark survived “Infinity War” only because of Dr. Strange’s intervention. We know that Strange saw the future with the time stone and knew that “the only way” to set things right involves Iron Man’s involvement.

Captain America

Everyone’s worried about the possibility Captain America could die during “Endgame,” and yeah, we’re worried, too. Cap’s the kind of guy who would jump on a grenade to save his friends. (Gulp.) But hey, at least he shaved.

Bruce Banner

Bruce Banner is still waiting for Hulk to roar back into action. Since his early-“Infinity War” beatdown, the green guy has been MIA. It’s a safe bet that Hulk is going to return, angrier than ever, at just the right moment.

Captain Marvel

Fresh off her film debut, Captain Marvel is likely to be a key player in defeating Thanos. After all, she’s the first (and only) person Nick Fury thought to alert when people started crumbling to dust. Some have suggested she may take the Adam Warlock role from the Infinity War comic arc.

Scarlet Witch

Black Widow has given up the blonde life. Maybe this will confuse Thanos. (Just grasping at straws here.)

Wong

Without Dr. Strange in play, Wong could offer his mystic skills to help our heroes. We haven’t seen him since the New York scenes early in “Infinity War,” so it’s nice to see he survived the snap.

Ant-Man

Although Ant-Man got stranded in the quantum realm at the end of “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” we know he gets out somehow. He does appear full-sized in the trailers. His super-shrinking ability could prove crucial in the battle to come. After all, he didn’t get a crack at Thanos in “Infinity War.”

Pepper Potts

After an ominous “Infinity War” cameo where she looked forward to marriage with Tony Stark, Pepper Potts didn’t really figure into the film. Her inclusion in these posters suggests a larger role. Some have guessed she’ll get to don some armor of her own. In other Marvel properties, a suited-up Potts is known as Rescue.

Happy Hogan

Why would Marvel grab Jon Favreau for this photo shoot? It’s not like anyone wants a poster of Happy Hogan on their bedroom wall. He probably plays a support role to Pepper as she gears up to save Tony somehow.

Valkyrie

Lots of Marvel fans were griping about Valkyrie’s absence in the last film. This poster confirms that Thor’s pal survived the snap. Her inclusion here provides some much-needed firepower in the fight against the Mad Titan. Welcome back to the MCU, Valkyrie!

Okoye

Okoye basically had the worst day of her life in “Infinity War.” She had to watch her king dissolve into dust. We look forward to seeing her back in action in “Endgame.”

War Machine

The trailer seems to show War Machine is part of the core group headed on some kind of matching uniform mission to retrieve the heroes. Tony may be out of action for now, but Rhodey can provide some armored firepower in his absence.

Rocket

Rocket doesn’t know it yet, but he lost more than Groot. All of the Guardians of the Galaxy got dusted (unless you count Nebula). Expect our furry little friend to settle the score.

Nebula

Nebula could be another key to defeating Thanos. After all, she is his stepdaughter. And she has added motivation since her sister was on the receiving end of a very personal murder. Expect fireworks when she sees her old stepdad.

Hawkeye

Hawkeye may not be the most powerful Avenger. But after hanging up his bow at the end of “Age of Ultron,” something terrible must have happened to pull him back into the fight. A man with deadly aim could come in handy when trying to dislodge tiny stones from a big metal glove…

The Fallen

Black Panther

Wakanda weeps. When the mighty Black Panther disappeared, it left a nation without its king. Since we know T’Challa will be back for a Black Panther sequel, it’s a sure bet he comes back to life. But how?

Shuri

This poster is our first confirmation that Shuri died in the big snap. Hopefully, she and her big brother aren’t out of action for long.

Nick Fury

Poor Nick Fury only had time to beep Captain Marvel before crumbling to dust. Without him, we wouldn’t have the Avengers in the first place.

Dr. Strange

As we mentioned above, Dr. Strange saw something in all those timelines to make him think Tony was necessary to defeat Thanos in the end. His surrender of the Time Stone was a major turning point in “Infinity War,” and he wouldn’t have given it up without a good reason.

Falcon

Captain America faced a pair of tough losses at the end of “Infinity War.” Falcon disappeared…

Winter Soldier

…and so did Bucky. The Winter Soldier’s metal arm might have held up better against Thanos’ gauntlet than Cap’s bare hands did. Will he get a chance to arm wrestle the big purple guy?

Loki

Loki “dies” all the time, but this one certainly seemed real. For being a universally known trickster, his attempt to stab Thanos seemed pretty half-baked. His powers of deception could come in handy in a Thanos rematch. (Or he could stab the Avengers in the back. Loki is tricky that way.)

Vision

Vision took the noble way out when he sacrificed himself at the end of “Infinity War.” Too bad Thanos and the Time Stone hit rewind and made the sacrifice irrelevant. Question is: even if everyone comes back, can Vision even exist without the Mind Stone in his noggin?

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch suffered the 1-2 whammy of having to kill her lover, then watch him get killed a second time, then crumble to dust herself. If her magic is powerful enough to destroy an Infinity Stone, she would certainly be useful in the fight to come.

Star-Lord

Star-Lord’s lack of self-control cost the Avengers dearly the first time. And nearly his whole team of Guardians turned to dust. After what happened to his beloved Gamora, there’s no one who’d love a second shot at Thanos more than Peter Quill.

Gamora

Gamora’s death unlocked the Soul Stone for Thanos. And if she were to come back, his affection for her could be a helpful Achilles heel.

Drax

Drax had a rough go in “Infinity War” as he was diced into cubes and then snapped to dust. He has a personal vendetta against Thanos, but that temper could be a problem.

Mantis

Mantis nearly held Thanos in check long enough for the team to remove the Infinity Gauntlet. If she could do that once, she could do it again… if she comes back.

Groot

He is Groot.

Wasp

The Wasp never got a fair shot at Thanos. She was dusted inside the Quantum Realm. Her ability to shrink could slide her in behind Thanos’ defenses while he’s dealing with (ahem) bigger threats. That’s if she comes back, of course.

Spider-Man

Ah, Spider-Man. With his mask off, Peter Parker was just a scared kid who didn’t want to die. And as many have pointed out, his spider-sense alerted him to the danger far earlier than anyone else. He knew he was going to turn into dust. Since we know that Spidey has a fun European vacation coming up, there’s no need to get too upset. But it’s no fun watching our heroes die, even temporarily.

5 most intriguing Avengers: Endgame theories

From the clever to the crazy, here are the theories we’re circling before April 26.

Captain America Tear“Avengers: Infinity War” left fans in the dust (literally) when it premiered last summer. Since its release, fans have taken to the internet to find and offer theories as to how The Avengers will ultimately defeat Thanos.

The Russo brothers, the directors of “Avengers: Endgame,” recently announced that the film will be about three hours long and that all the trailers released for the film have been intentionally misleading. Fans will be going into the movie blind, and reliant on theories as to what direction the story might take.

We scoured the internet looking for the most convincing and most intriguing theories we could find.

5 most intriguing Avengers: Endgame theories

5. The Avengers will travel back in time to save their friends

In the after-credits scene of “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” Scott Lang found himself trapped in the Quantum Realm with nobody around to save him. However, right before being shrunk down, Janet Van Dyne warned Scott to avoid being sucked into a time vortex. Some fans expect that Scott, along with the rest of The Avengers, will throw caution to the wind as they travel back in time to prevent Thanos from obtaining all of the Infinity Stones.

This theory is furthered by leaked photos from the set of “Avengers: Endgame” of Captain America dressed in the same classic outfit from the first Avengers film.

4. Nobody is dead; they’re trapped inside the Soul Stone

After the heartbreaking scene where Thanos throws Gamora to her death, we see him inside a world where he tells a young Gamora that he got what he wanted, but at the cost of “everything.” Rather than being a window into Thanos’s psyche, some fans theorize that what we are actually seeing in this world is the inside of the Soul Stone.

We have seen the power of each Infinity Stone on-screen except for the Soul Stone, which begs the question, “What does it do?” Some say it is unlikely, but “Avengers: Endgame,” might just be an all-out attack on Thanos to try to destroy the Soul Stone, and bring their friends back.

3. The Avengers will travel to another dimension

Ant-Man Suit

Dimension hopping is no stranger to  Marvel comics. Reed Richards of The Fantastic Four once teamed up with two other Reed Richards from different dimensions, each of whom had his own completed Infinity Gauntlet. With this in mind, The Avengers might use Ant-Man’s ability to enter the Quantum Realm to hop to another dimension to get help, and maybe grab another Infinity Gauntlet to fight off Thanos.

2. Captain America will die in the final confrontation with Thanos

After finishing filming “Avengers: Endgame,” Chris Evans tweeted out a farewell to the character, thanking his fans for their love and support. “Avengers: Endgame” also marks the end of Evans’ contract with Marvel. As Captain America is not the type of person to retire, many fans believe that this might be the last time we get to see the star-spangled man with a plan on the silver screen.

1. Hawkeye saw his family die, and snapped

Although absent from “Avengers: Infinity War,” every trailer for “Avengers: Endgame” has showcased a grizzled-looking Hawkeye with weapons and a costume similar to his other alter-ego from the comics, Ronin.

Another scene from the trailer shows Hawkeye training his daughter how to use a bow and arrow back at their country home. Fans speculate that during that father-daughter training session, Hawkeye’s daughter and family turn to dust due to the snap from Thanos. After losing his family, Hawkeye would go rogue and assume the lone-warrior persona of Ronin, as he tries to have some sort of life after losing his family.

Let us know in the comments below what fate you think might befall the heroes this April.

Want to get into comics? Here’s where to start

It should come as no surprise to anyone that superhero movies are the hottest thing in pop culture today. They routinely crush the box office and characters like Iron Man and Thanos have become modern icons. Many fans understandably have wanted to get into the comics that spawned these characters, but don’t exactly know where to start. This guide will show you what to do based on which comics you want to read and how you want to read them.

First, we’ll start with how you want to read them.

Where to start with print comics

comic store

If you prefer flipping through the pages of a comic to swiping on a screen, you have a few options. Your first option is to read trade paperbacks.

trade paperback

A trade paperback is a collection of comics that usually make up a single story arc. If you’re looking to read a specific story (e.g. “The Infinity Gauntlet” or “The Dark Knight Returns”), buying these trade paperbacks is often significantly easier and cheaper than hunting down individual issues of the story.

Trade paperbacks also often include issues of multiple series to fill out a story (for example, the “Civil War” trade includes issues of Avengers and Amazing Spider-Man, among others). For newer comic fans, buying trades is the easiest way to read famous stories without worrying about buying individual issues or reading them in a specific order. You can buy these either at book/comic stores or online, but in our experience, it’s usually cheaper to buy these at comic stores.

The other most common option is to subscribe to your favorite series at your local comic book store. Most stores offer some sort of discount if you subscribe to a monthly/weekly comic, and you can generally pick up new issues on Wednesdays. This is the best way to continuously keep up on a specific series, as you’ll get new issues right when they come out. Plus, it’s always important to support your local comic book store!

Where and how to read digital comics

digital comics

The upside to reading comics digitally is convenience. You can read them on your phone, tablet, or computer, making it easy to bring them on the go without hauling a stack of books.

If you’re looking to read mainstream superhero comics, both DC and Marvel have digital comics subscriptions that are well worth the money. For $10 a month, Marvel Unlimited gives you access to nearly every Marvel comic released since the 1960s.

The app is very well organized by different stories, writers, and characters, allowing you to browse the massive catalog with ease. Unfortunately, you can’t read newer issues of current series when they come out (though you can buy the issue separately), but all comics are uploaded to the service a few months after they release. The service is basically everything you could want as a Marvel comic fan.

If you’re looking more broadly, the ComiXology app offers basically any modern comic you could possibly want. The service has both Marvel and DC comics, in addition to thousands of non-superhero comics from other publishers, and you can buy new issues as soon as they come out. They also have a paid subscription service called ComiXology Unlimited that gives you access to thousands of comics from a wide variety of publishers. If you’re more focused on keeping up with current series as opposed to diving into the backlog, you should use ComiXology over Marvel Unlimited.

Which comics are easy to get into?

Decades of continuity can make diving into comic books a confusing and daunting task. Fortunately, with the popularity of their movies Marvel and DC have made efforts to streamline their titles and give new readers a clean starting point. Here are some titles to check out from each publisher.

Marvel

avengers fresh start

Last year, Marvel launched its Fresh Start line. Fresh Start renumbered a bunch of Marvel’s most popular comics at #1, giving new readers a clear jumping on point. If you’re a movie fan looking to start reading, WE recommend choosing from these comic lines. Some of the comics that were renumbered include:

  • Avengers
  • Black Panther
  • Captain America
  • Captain Marvel
  • Deadpool
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Immortal Hulk
  • Miles Morales: Spider-Man
  • Thor
  • Tony Stark: Iron Man
  • Uncanny X-Men
  • Venom

Most of the confusing or convoluted storylines that were present in these comics have been reworked to bring in the casual crowd, so don’t worry about jumping into some massive story that’s partway through. With Marvel Unlimited, you should be able to read most of these comics up until their current issues.

DC

dc rebirth

DC is known for its massive universal reboots every so often, and they had arguably their most successful one in 2016’s DC Rebirth. The relaunch combined the modern sensibilities of the controversial New 52 relaunch with DC’s storied legacy to get the best of both worlds. For new readers, we recommend choosing from your favorite character’s Rebirth comic. Popular characters that got a new series in Rebirth include:

  • Aquaman
  • Batman
  • Cyborg
  • Doom Patrol
  • Flash
  • Green Arrow
  • Green Lantern
  • Harley Quinn
  • Justice League
  • Shazam
  • Suicide Squad
  • Superman
  • Wonder Woman

DC has done a nice job of balancing keeping their heroes familiar and introducing fresh elements to their stories. Rebirth is a great place to start for both new and returning readers.

New Avengers: Endgame trailer will give you chills

Is it April 26 yet?

Avengers Endgame

Has it really been less than a year since “Infinity War?” It feels like an eternity. Half the universe got eliminated with the snap of a finger and we’ve been left grasping at straws to consider how the heck our heroes are going to get out of this.

Today, we got another glimpse of “Endgame.” Buckle up.

Looks like the Avengers are all decked out in matching outfits (possibly needed to join Ant-Man in the Quantum Realm?).

Captain America EndgameAvengers EndgameScarlet Widow, Nebula, Tony Stark Endgame

That sequence also shows Nebula and Tony with the rest of the gang, so we know they got back to Earth. (Whew!)

Will our remaining heroes take the fight to Thanos alone or will they somehow reverse time and bring back all those Avengers who got dusted?

The chilling refrain we keep hearing in this trailer is “whatever it takes.” And that leaves us with the scary prospect that we could permanently lose one of our heroes. Iron Man and/or Captain America are logical choices for martyrdom. It’s hard to imagine, though.

Also worth noting, it looks like Thanos claimed half of Hawkeye’s hair:

“Avengers: Endgame” hits the big screen on April 26.
