Neon Genesis Evangelion will have a new anime with one of the most important video game creators of today

A new anime series has been announced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic franchise Neon Genesis Evangelion, with the renowned video game creator Yoko Taro at the helm as writer.

This announcement comes during the event Evangelion:30+, designed to honor the influence and legacy of the work of Hideki Anno, which has left an indelible mark on anime and science fiction culture.

A comeback that no one saw coming

Yoko Taro, known for his works such as Drakengard and Nier: Automata, will lead the writing and overall composition of the series. Taro is widely acclaimed for the emotional depth of his characters and his ability to explore dark and complex themes, which seems to align exceptionally well with the dramatic and psychological tone characteristic of Evangelion.

Alongside him, Kazuya Tsurumaki, Toru Yatabe, and Keiichi Okabe will participate in the production, with joint production by Studio Khara, founded by Anno, and CloverWorks.

The combination of these talents generates great anticipation among fans of both universes. However, despite the enthusiasm, no details have been revealed so far about the plot or the release date of the new series. The lack of specific information fuels speculation about the direction this adaptation will take and how it will connect with the narrative already established in previous works of Evangelion.

It is important to remember that, although Taro has made a remarkable return to the scene after the success of Nier: Automata in 2017, he has focused his efforts on smaller projects since then. With this announcement, there is a renewed interest in his unique narrative vision and how it will enrich the already complex universe of Evangelion.

Nier: Automata could have had a director from a very famous title

Nier: Automata and its predecessor, Nier: Replicant, have been hailed as true gems of the action RPG genre, reaching sales of nearly 10 million units worldwide. However, this success did not come without the producer Yosuke Saito making a crucial decision: choosing director Yoko Taro instead of the director of a famous title, whose identity has not been revealed. Yoko Taro was the director of the game due to Saito’s conviction. Nier: Automata and its predecessor, Nier: Replicant, have been hailed as true gems of the action RPG genre, reaching sales of nearly 10 million units worldwide. However, this success did not come without a crucial decision made by producer Yosuke Saito: choosing director Yoko Taro instead of the director of a famous title, whose identity has not been revealed.

Yoko Taro was the game director due to Saiyto’s conviction

During a recent interview with Famitsu, Saito reflected on the beginning of the Nier franchise, which they originally considered as an “experimental project.” It was this boldness that, according to him, allowed the series to become what it is today. In this context, it is interesting to think about how the industry would have been if Saito had opted for the other game. However, Taro’s choice has not been overshadowed, as Nier: Automata has been credited with the recovery of the Japanese video game industry, even by former PlayStation head, Shuhei Yoshida.

Apart from Nier, director Yoko Taro also proposed a side-scrolling game titled Echo, which never came to fruition. Saito revealed that he asked Taro to reconsider this idea. While it remains a mystery what “Echo” could have offered, it seems that both made a wise choice by focusing on the deeper stories that have characterized the Nier series.

Regarding the future of the franchise, Saito has indicated that “nothing has changed” regarding the new Nier title, which could pave the way for a potential Nier 3, with an announcement expected in 2027, as long as everyone “stays alive until then.” This statement has generated speculation among the fan community, who are eager for the continuation of a story that has left an indelible mark on the world of video games.

Stellar Blade has been one of the major releases of the year. Controversies aside, it is a game that has sparked great interest among a segment of the audience thanks to its spectacular graphics and intense gameplay. Being one of the biggest achievements Sony has scored this year, along with Black Myth: Wukong. That’s why many people are waiting for it to no longer be available only on PlayStation 5. Something that might happen much sooner than we expected.

Stellar Blade could arrive before May of next year

According to comments made during the Q&A session of their financial results for the third quarter of 2024, SHIFT UP is looking to launch Stellar Blade during 2025. This would align with rumors that the exclusivity with Sony was only for one year. If so, the game could be released at any time from April 26, 2025, on PC or any other platform.

Their reason for wanting to release it on PC has also been the success of Black Myth: Wukong. Seeing the success it has had on the platform, they hope that Stellar Blade will perform even better on computers than it has on consoles.

Additionally, they have confirmed that they will provide more information about their next game planned for release in 2027, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. Meanwhile, Stellar Blade will receive a collaboration with NieR:Automata in the form of a DLC on November 20th.
