21 Jump Street and its sequel, 22 Jump Street, are two brilliant action comedies. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, they perfectly combine visual inventiveness, a hilarious script, and perfect chemistry between their lead actors, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, who seemed like genuine buddies trying to solve cases that were way too big for how incredibly stupid, yet charming, they are.
A sequel with the original people
Unfortunately, we never had a third installment. Apparently, until now. 24 Jump Street is in development with Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube in talks to return in the leading roles.
The reason it will be called 24 Jump Street, as the subtitle itself says, is that they have taken so long to make this sequel that they have to skip one, continuing with the kind of humor that has characterized this saga so far.
Although the movie will have Phil Lord and Christopher Miller as producers, they will not return as directors, which does not mean it won’t have a renowned director. The direction will be handled by Rodney Rothman, director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the script will be by Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy. This ensures that the movie will be managed by people very much associated with the franchise in one way or another.
While this is great news, we would still have to wait to know more. With no release date and no start date for filming, it is likely that we won’t know more details until 2027 and the movie won’t hit theaters until 2029. So we have to be patient and remember that, until yesterday, we didn’t even have more Jump Street.
