After Stranger Things, there were doubts about whether Matt and Ross Duffer would achieve a success of the same caliber as their original series. Still under contract with Netflix, which wants to protect its stars, it seems they still have a lot to offer. And now they also have the approval of one of the most beloved and celebrated writers in the world: Stephen King.
A man with specific tastes
The Boroughs: Rebel Retirement, the new series by the Duffer brothers, has been described as “a true delight”by Stephen King on his Threads account. Emphasizing that “it is really worth it.” Although he has not elaborated further on why he found it so extraordinary, the writer seems to have enjoyed the eight episodes of this series that blends science fiction, fantasy, and adventure.
And it is not the only one. Although it has premiered in a modest third place in Spain, the series has managed to take the top spot among the most-watched series on Netflix worldwide. Whether this is enough to be considered a success or not remains to be seen, because Netflix is not very transparent with the figures of its series. This means that even appearing at the top of the most-watched series does not necessarily imply anything regarding its continuity.
Considering that the series has not yet been renewed for a second season and the reviews have been less than enthusiastic, the future of The Boroughs: Rebel Retirement still seems up in the air. But if the success indicated by Stephen King’s praise and the public’s enthusiasm means anything, Netflix shouldn’t take long to announce that much-anticipated second season. Or explain exactly what has gone wrong.

This project, directed by Jim Mickle, promises to bring to the screen one of the most influential narratives of the genre, which has made an impact since its creation by Yoshiyuki Tomino in the 70s.
Of real image and not with the actors we would expect
The movie will feature a cast led by Noah Centineo and Sydney Sweeney, both well-known faces in the Netflix universe. Centineo rose to fame in the hit romantic comedy To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, while Sweeney is known for her role as Cassie in the popular series Euphoria. Additionally, the production will include prominent actors such as Jason Isaacs, famous for his portrayal of Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter, and other talents like Jackson White, Shioli Kutsuna, Nonso Anozie, Michael Mando, among others.
The plot of Gundam will unfold in a war context that pits Earth against its space colonies. The protagonists, rival pilots, find themselves caught in a conflict that has been ongoing for decades. The synopsis suggests that changes in alliances could determine the fate of humanity, adding a level of tension and drama to the narrative that is sure to captivate both franchise fans and new viewers.
Gundam is not only a pillar in anime culture, but it has also inspired other renowned works, such as Evangelion and Pacific Rim. Steven Spielberg, recognized as one of the great film directors, will return to the science fiction genre in 2026 with his new project titled The Day of Revelation. This will be his return to the realm of science fiction after directing The Fabelmans (2022) and West Side Story (2021). Expectations are high among fans, especially considering his previous success with Ready Player One, which premiered in 2018 and grossed 582 million dollars at the box office.
The culprit for not knowing more: COVID
The sequel to Ready Player One, titled Ready Player Two, has been in development since its announcement in 2020. However, various setbacks such as the COVID-19 pandemic and more recently the strikes in Hollywood have affected its progress. Despite these obstacles, the author of the original novel, Ernest Cline, has confirmed that the saga is still in the plans, although Spielberg will only act as a producer this time.
The popularity of Ready Player One is evident in the fact that Cline’s novel remained on the New York Times bestseller list for 100 weeks. With this, the possibility of a sequel is reasonable and has a solid foundation due to the previous success. In this context, a graphic novel of Ready Player One will be released in the fall of 2026, followed by a graphic novel of Ready Player Two scheduled for 2028. According to Cline, this release could serve as a thermometer to gauge fan interest before the official film production is greenlit.
As the development of the sequel continues, fans of the franchise remain hopeful that news will emerge in the coming months, as the production team seeks to make progress on this highly anticipated project in the world of digital entertainment.

And also of great writers like Brandon Sanderson, a recognized author of the Cosmere universe and one of the most prominent names in modern fantasy literature, attended the screening and shared his favorable opinion about the production directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Humor: one of its strong points
Sanderson, who is immersed in writing scripts for the movies of Mistborn and the series The Stormlight Archive, stated that the adaptation effectively captures the adventures of the protagonist, Ryland Grace. He particularly highlighted the humorous approach of the character Rocky, noting that the decision to add a comedic component was a success. They really nailed the balance between humor and emotion, Sanderson commented, referring to the directors’ ability to blend various emotional elements with comedy.
Despite his praise, the author also acknowledged that Project Hail Mary is not a perfect movie and has some missteps; however, he emphasized that there could not be a better version of the original novel. Sanderson took the opportunity to urge Hollywood producers to invest in more projects based on Weir’s works, expressing his interest in the possible adaptation of Artemis, another of the author’s novels.
With the admiration for Sanderson and the growing popularity of Project Hail Mary, the future of film based on science fiction literature looks promising, and hopefully it will be filled with projects as interesting as this one.
Although it is not usually remembered with much affection, the second Star Wars trilogy has many valuable and memorable things. Although it is not usually remembered fondly, the second Star Wars trilogy has many valuable and memorable things. The Phantom Menace has many remarkable elements that have aged notably well. The pod races, the Jedi battles, and of course, an antagonist that no one understood why he was killed at the moment of his introduction: the incredibly charismatic Darth Maul.
Since his introduction in The Phantom Menace, Star Wars has repeatedly returned to the figure of this mysterious Sith who, despite his evident evilness and connection to the underworld, has continued to fascinate a significant portion of the audience. A significant part of movies, animated series, and video games, at Disney have decided that it is time to give him the main focus. And they have done so with a miniseries that, although still airing, seems to have captured exactly what people like about the character: he hasn’t come here to make friends.
A director with a knack for animation
Maul: Lord of Shadows, premiered on April 6 on Disney+ and, at the time of publication of this article, two episodes have been aired. Created by Dave Filoni, the series is everything fans expected not only from the character but also from its creator.
What did you expect? Well, considering that Filoni is known for being the director of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as the creator of Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and Star Wars: Tales, a series that pays great attention to animation. With a clear inspiration from anime, where heroes are not white and pure, nor villains lack reasons for their actions, and where the action is spectacular, interesting, and tremendously visceral. Exactly everything that Maul: Lord of Shadows offers us.
Because for this journey, he is not coming alone. He has decided to enlist Matt Michnovetz, who has honed his skills in The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch, creating a perfect tandem to tackle the most beloved character by fans. The most charismatic bad boy in the history of Star Wars.
Darth Maul is evil, and that’s the point
The premise of the series is based on the fact that Darth Maul is anything but an angel. After the Clone Wars and having been betrayed by those he thought were his allies, he begins to rebuild his crime syndicate and seeks, on the planet Janix, a Force user who can be his disciple. He discovers one in Devon Izara, a padawan of the Twi’lek species, who has serious conflicts not only with her future as a Jedi but also with the concepts of good and evil.
With the police chasing him, the series has a simple premise. Darth Maul may be a bad person, but those who oppose him are, in this case, worse. And the whole series will revolve around that. Finding himself in conflict with the police, other crime syndicates, and everything points to much more powerful forces that will want to hunt him down, the series knows how to walk that sweet spot where the protagonist doesn’t do the right thing, but it’s interesting to see him pursue his ambitions. Even if it’s evident that it will lead him down a path where he will increasingly commit more ignoble acts.
The animation is, as expected, excellent, and the music by Kevin, Sean, and Deana Kiner complements the almost hardboiled storytelling style of Maul: Son of the Shadows. Something that makes it unsurprising that it is exciting not only among the audience but also among critics: with a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 71 on Metacritic, it has received an extremely positive rating so far.
With eight episodes left, it seems that Maul: Lord of Shadows has everything to become one of the must-watch series of the year for Star Wars fans. Not to mention the fans of Darth Maul. So all that’s left is to sit back and enjoy the ride.

According to data from Artisan Gateway, the film earned RMB53.3 million, equivalent to approximately $7.5 million, in its second week of release. With this income, Project Hail Mary has accumulated a total of $18.3 million to date.
A movie that dominates all markets
Success in the Chinese market is particularly notable, given the competitive film environment in the country, where audience preferences can vary considerably. Project Hail Mary, based on the novel by author Andy Weir, seems to have captured the audience’s attention, possibly due to its intriguing narrative and impressive visual effects.
On the other hand, Disney’s animated film Hoppers was also mentioned during this period, although no details were specified about its box office performance. This omission has led to speculation about how it has been received compared to other recent releases in a market where animation tends to attract a wide range of audiences.
The box office context in China is vital not only for Hollywood studios but also for analyzing the potential global revenue in the film industry. The weekend results suggest a continued interest from the audience in science fiction productions, which could encourage other studios to consider similar themes in their future offerings.
As Project Hail Mary continues its run, it will be interesting to see if it can maintain its throne or if Hoppers will receive a more positive response in the days to come.

The highly anticipated movie Project Hail Mary, directed by the acclaimed Phil Lord and Chris Miller, has arrived in theaters. This adaptation of the novel by author Andy Weir, known for his hit The Martian, follows the adventures of Ryland Grace, played by Ryan Gosling, an astronaut who must save Earth from an alien microbe that is destroying the sun.
A wink straight from Gosling himself
In a remarkable twist within the plot, the filmmakers incorporated a tribute to the classic film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. This idea was proposed by none other than Steven Spielberg, who suggested that Grace, upon meeting her alien companion Rocky —played by James Ortiz—, should sing the famous theme song from the 1977 movie. According to Lord, in an interview on the podcast Happy Sad Confused, Spielberg mentioned: “The alien speaks in songs… You should have [Ryan Gosling] sing the theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Wouldn’t that be funny?” The directors took this comment as a green light to include it in the film.
Project Hail Mary not only presents an intriguing narrative, but also welcomes an endearing character in Rocky, who becomes Grace’s inseparable companion. The plot expands with a comedic and emotional tone, as Grace faces the monumental task of saving not only her planet, but also the life of her new alien friend, who is facing his own crises back home.
With the combination of intergalactic adventure and a nostalgic nod to the classics of science fiction, Project Hail Mary promises to attract both fans of science fiction literature and moviegoers in search of a unique cinematic experience. The film is already available in theaters, and it seems it will not disappoint.

The Singapore-based studio, Edenstone, has announced its new project titled Spore Fall, a microdrama series of science fiction that combines human writing with filmmaking through artificial intelligence. This innovative production approach seeks to propose a hybrid model in which scripts, created by humans, come to life through visuals generated by AI, setting a precedent in the field of digital content creation.
An unprecedented collaboration
Spore Fall is set in the fictional city of Lionara and features episodes of less than three minutes each, designed to capture the attention of a mobile audience consuming content on digital platforms. This brief duration aims to maximize accessibility and viewer engagement, who crave dynamic and fast narratives in an increasingly fast-paced world.
Edenstone’s focus on a production that blends human creativity with the power of artificial intelligence not only represents an evolution in audiovisual storytelling, but also reflects a shift in content consumption patterns among global audiences. The series targets those who seek intriguing and visually appealing stories that fit a mobile-first lifestyle.
While Spore Fall promises to introduce a unique visual experience, it also invites reflection on the future of content creation and collaboration between humans and machines. Director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton, known for his work on Pixar classics like Finding Nemo and WALL·E, returns to live action with his new film In the Blink of an Eye, which will be available on Disney+ starting February 27. After his unsuccessful debut with John Carter, Stanton now finds himself in a different position as he does not rely on traditional box office for the success of his new work.
The plot of In an Instant explores three intertwined timelines that reflect on deep themes such as hope, human connection, and the cycle of life. This ambitious narrative has led some critics to compare it to notable cinematic works such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Interstellar, and Magnolia. However, despite these comparisons, expectations may not meet reality, as the initial reception at the Sundance Festival has been unfavorable, with less than 20% recommendations on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite the negative criticism, which points out that the film gets lost in its own ambition and accuses it of being a plagiarism of Cloud Atlas, the impressive visual aspect of In an Instant has received praise. This contrast between the criticism and the visualization generates a curious interest from the audience, who may feel drawn to discern whether the similarities are truly a weakness or a product of Stanton’s ambitious narrative.
With an intriguing cast and a premise that, on paper, promises narrative richness, the arrival of In an Instant on Disney+ could open a new chapter in Stanton’s career. The film will be an opportunity for viewers to assess for themselves whether there is merit in the controversy or if, in fact, it is a failed attempt at cinematic reimagining.

Jointly with actress Georgina Campbell, the plot centers on two young warehouse employees who must survive a chaotic shift after a mutant fungus escapes from a sealed facility. The basic premise is enhanced by the participation of Liam Neeson as a veteran Pentagon agent who will help the protagonists in their fight to save humanity.
A movie with big names
Directed by Jonny Campbell, known for his work on series like Westworld and Doctor Who, and written by David Koepp, a frequent collaborator of Steven Spielberg on classics like Jurassic Park, Night Shift aims to provide a frantic and fun spectacle. Although some critics may argue that the film lacks depth, it is expected that the movie will provide an entertaining experience to enjoy in a group, evoking comparisons to horror comedies like Zombieland.
The premiere is scheduled for next weekend in Mexico and Brazil, while in the United States, viewers will be able to see it starting February 13. In Spain, we will have to wait until April 24. With a mix of humor, action, and a touch of horror, Night Shift presents itself as an intriguing proposal, although it is also important to keep in mind that it may not be suitable for all audiences. While the film faces criticism regarding its quality, the charisma of its cast and the comedic approach to the story generate positive expectations among fans of the genre.
