The developers of The Day Before have started the development of their new game… and it doesn’t seem better

The developers of The Day Before have started the development of their new game… and it doesn’t look better, considering everything we know about it.

Sometimes something seems to be a scam and, to the surprise of very few, it ends up being one. Common sense says that the people behind this kind of movement would no longer have a place in the industry where they have carried out these actions. That after selling smoke with a game that clearly never existed, the developers behind it could not try to make another game to see if it works again. But it seems that we don’t live in a world where common sense works that way.

The same week that The Day Before servers close their doors, a game whose lifespan has been exactly 45 days, it has been revealed that its developers have started working on a new game. Because, according to CD-Action, after speaking with a former employee of the studio, the founders of Fntastic, who were behind The Day Before, are already looking for staff for their new game.

More specifically, the brothers Eduard and Aisen Gotovstev would be developing a mobile game, for which they would be hiring new employees as if nothing had happened. They are even offering job positions to those members of the studio who were fired or left their position on bad terms.

If you don’t know the story, we extensively covered it on Softonic. But it can be summarized as the Fntastic studio claiming to be developing an open-world online game, inspired by The Last of Us, that promised to be a technological and mechanical revolution. The result was a game that didn’t even correspond to the genre they claimed it belonged to, with the studio quietly closing down, Steam having to refund all game buyers, and the game servers shutting down on January 22nd.

While we still don’t know more details about the new mobile game by Eduard and Aisen Gotovstev, it seems unlikely that it will be anything more than smoke. If not directly a new scam. That’s why we will keep an eye on all the news about it, not because it’s interesting what may come out of their efforts, but because of the more than likely fiasco that may come out of here. And the negative repercussions it may have on users who, unknowingly, may fall into the traps of a couple of brothers who have shown that they are only good at leaving everyone who trusts them in the lurch.

‘The day before’ has an expiration date: we already know when the servers will close

Between yesterday and today, the peak of people playing at the same time was 2. Considering that on the first day, December 8, there were more than 38,000 people playing at the same time, the drop has been something to see and hard to believe.

The world of video games has given us many reasons to facepalm throughout 2023, but perhaps nothing as much as ‘The Day Before’, the video game by Fntastic that has been one of the biggest failures in the history of the industry. So much so, that the studio has closed, it can no longer be purchased, and the servers will only be operational for 45 days. Phew.

The day before (failing)

If you want, you can still play, but according to Steam Charts, it is unlikely that you will find many people: between yesterday and today the peak of people playing at the same time was 2. Considering that on the first day, December 8th, there were more than 38,000 people playing at once, the drop has been unbelievable.

Now, Mytona, one of the game publishers, has announced that January 22nd will be the last day for people who want to enter to play. If they can, of course. The positive side is that everyone who hasn’t requested a refund will still receive it in the next few days. Some are asking to be accused of fraud but, frankly, they have enough on their plate and international embarrassment.

‘The Day Before’ is already considered one of the ten worst games in history, and in a year—with wonders like ‘Gollum’ or ‘King Kong’—it is remarkable. Rarely have we seen such rapid internal destruction. A simply incredible story that will come to an end on January 22nd. There is still time for some new crazy plot twist.

You won’t believe what people are paying for a copy of The Day Before

The Day Before has been the scam of the year, and now there are people paying outrageous amounts for a game key… that won’t work in days

The amount of senseless dramas in the video game industry is endless. For every game that is released smoothly and with a normal reception, there are twenty that have behind them stories of horror, madness, or a reception that makes you question the sanity of a certain sector of the gaming community. But among the dramas of this 2023, few have had as much impact as that of The Day Before.

To summarize everything that has happened, The Day Before is a game that has been in development for years and when it arrived on Steam just two weeks ago, it turned out to be nothing like what they promised. It was neither the genre they claimed it was nor did it have the graphics or gameplay they promised. This led to thousands of critical reviews and subsequent thousands of requests for refunds. All this considering that The Day Before became the most anticipated game in the history of the platform. A truly remarkable milestone.

After that, things have only gotten worse. The studio changed its name, removed the game from stores and we said that the drama was hardly over there. And indeed, the drama continues.

There are people who, for some reason that we fail to understand, are willing to pay to play The Day Before. And not just a small amount of money. According to the price tracker GG.deals, there are people who are paying between 215 and 485 dollars for a key of The Day Before. An absolute outrage, as well as something completely incomprehensible, for a game that is not only broken, but also dependent on an online server maintained by a company, to say the least, of questionable reputation.

In fact, those who are buying those keys are better off wanting to speculate with other speculators, because soon they will not serve any server. Today, the official game account has announced that after the closure of the developing company, Fntastic, the game servers will be shut down on January 22nd.

If The Day Before wasn’t a scam, it certainly seems like one. In any case, if you have been affected by it, Mytona, the investor in the project, along with Steam, have committed to refunding the money to all those who purchased the game at the time. A demonstration of good faith that, however, we are sure will not be the end of this story. Because yes: we are still convinced that there is more behind The Day Before. And that sooner or later we will find out.

The drama of The Day Before continues: now you can no longer buy the game

The Day Before drama continues: now you can no longer buy the game and the company seems to have changed its name for some reason?

There isn’t a week without drama in the world of video games. It’s something we’re already used to. We don’t even bother trying to predict what the next drama will be – it’s basically impossible. Usually, multiple things happen at once. When a company isn’t laying off dozens of employees, E3 gets canceled. And when that’s not the case, a game that seems like a scam stops being sold on Steam.

Steam DOWNLOAD

It’s no longer possible to buy The Day Before. After the game received an alarming amount of negative reviews because what was promised and what was delivered didn’t resemble each other at all, and following their developers, Fntastic, deciding to shut down in response, now comes their next move. Not only have they purged their YouTube channel and had their CEO, Eduard Gotovtsev, erase all of his digital footprint, but they’ve also removed the game from Steam.

The Day Before, which was still being sold for €39.99 even after the abandonment of its development was announced, is now officially a dead game. Nonetheless, it’s unclear which of the involved parties pulled the trigger. Whether it was Fntastic, the game’s developer; Mytona, its distributor; or Valve itself, the owner of Steam.

In any case, this isn’t the end of The Day Before’s drama. Even after delisting their game, the people behind Fntastic have continued making moves behind the scenes. In another one of their games, The Wild Eight, they’ve changed the developer’s name from Fntastic to Eight Points. This has only raised suspicions that all of this was a pre-planned scam, given the speed at which these changes were made.

While it’s entirely possible that we may never hear anything more about The Day Before or Fntastic, it’s quite probable that this is just another chapter in the story. Having sold at least 201,076 units on Steam, this won’t be over, at least not until every person who paid for the game gets their money back. That’s why we fear this story will continue to linger for a long, long time.

This game promised to be the revolution of open worlds; now players have torn it apart

This game promised to be the revolution of open worlds, now players have destroyed it considering it to be a scam

In the world of video games, it’s particularly challenging to prove that something is a scam. In an industry filled with complex developments, where transparency is nearly a sin and companies tend to promise even what they know is impossible, figuring out when someone is deceiving you and who’s trying to scam you is difficult. Which is quite sad. It means that many companies have standards just slightly above scammers. Even if it’s still possible to tell them apart.

The Day Before, a zombie MMO that came out on December 7 in early access, promised players a revolutionary experience. It claimed to be a groundbreaking open-world experience like never seen before, stating that upon launch, nothing comparable would have ever been seen. However, when it was released on December 7, it wasn’t just an exaggeration. They had actively been lying.

After five years of development, the game launched in early access and within just four days garnered over 18,000 reviews. Shockingly, 80% of these reviews were negative. This places it among the most scorned games in Steam’s history, even though it still falls short of the abyss of being extremely negative, as was the case with the disaster that was NBA 2K24.

Why is this happening? Basically, the game is nothing like what they promised. The world is empty, the combat is very basic, the enemy AI is very simple, and the game itself is full of bugs. That, coupled with graphics that are not even remotely close to what was promised, along with the use of AI-generated art they never mentioned before, has led to the game being universally condemned. It’s considered a scam by practically everyone who has played it so far.

The future of The Day Before and its developers, Mytona Fntastic, seems uncertain. Even in an industry with highly questionable standards, the difference between a scam and a development disaster remains evident. Because if something is evident, it’s that this is not simply a development disaster.

Steam’s most wanted zombie game… turns out it’s bad as hell, to the surprise of few.

After several delays, 'The day before' could be played for the first time yesterday… And the drama took over the gaming community. No open world, no MMO, no nothing

In 2021, out of nowhere, a new phenomenon emerged: ‘The day before’, a zombie game that promised to be an MMO that was going to compete with the best in the genre. In fact, it immediately became the number one title on Steam’s wishlists, although some people said that its intentions were perhaps too much for an indie studio like Fntastic. Doomsayers, no doubt. Unless…

A dead game in life

After several delays, ‘The day before’ could be played for the first time yesterday… And drama took over the gaming community. No open world, no MMO, no nothing: it is a simple extraction game that could perfectly be a free to play that, to top it off, does not connect to the servers in time to be able to play games more or less constantly.

To top it off, the game is full of bugs, from those that make you fly through the walls to those that leave you in a kind of invisible box that prevents you from continuing your game normally… or, even worse, those that make you fall down the side of the map the very second the game starts. The contest for worst game of the year was won by ‘Gollum‘ and ‘King Kong‘, but ‘The day before’ has arrived at the last minute to stand up to them.

To tell the truth, the thing already smelled bad: the game’s trailer plagiarized other similar ones, the videos that the studio uploaded to YouTube were fake and, in the end, it has been a hit on Twitch for the wrong reasons. Logically, all streamers have wanted to connect with a burning train about to have an accident. It certainly has a lot of fixing to do if it wants to be seen as something more in the future… And it’s not at all clear that it’s going to do that.

It should be noted that many believed the game didn’t even exist, so at least seeing it in motion has been a surprise. Fntastic itself, before the debacle, wrote “We’ve made this for you to enjoy the game and make it a celebration. Together, we will continue to improve it and add content.” A celebration it certainly was… but not how they imagined.
