The Skyrim player who has built a suit to feel the same pain as their character

We live in a world full of possibilities, but there are those who believe that you can always take one more step beyond. And if there’s a possibility, it should be carried out, right? Well, I leave that to your judgment.

For a long time, video game companies have wanted us to feel more and more immersed in the experiences. Virtual reality, 3D, giant screens at 60 frames per second… We live in a world full of possibilities, but there are those who believe that we can always go one step further. And if there is a possibility, it must be carried out, right? Well, I leave it up to you to decide.

SkAYrim

Introducing GingasVR, a player of Skyrim in virtual reality who, after spending $15,000 on the most immersive equipment possible to play her favorite video game, has decided to enhance it by purchasing a haptic device that produces real damage using electrodes attached directly to the skin and that are connected to what is happening in the video game. In other words, she has invented a suit to feel the same pain as her character.

In fact, in one of the videos she has posted, we can see her suffering on the floor while a dragon scorches her on the screen and she repeats “It’s very painful.” Someone urgently needs to go outside and touch grass. Real, not virtual. It’s not all pain: another haptic suit produces vibrations for the most pleasurable sensations, and it has included a simulation of wind and temperature so that nothing escapes from her immersion. Welcome to the VDSM. The “V” stands for “Video games”.

Why have we gone five years without knowing anything about ‘The Elder Scrolls 6’?

“All those companies that start talking about their games years before launching them are hurting themselves. The best time to start talking about them is six months before their release”

‘Skyrim,’ the fifth installment of ‘The Elder Scrolls,’ was released in 2011 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Since then, Bethesda Game Studios has only released five more games, with ‘Starfield‘ being the most prominent among them, along with ‘Fallout 4.’ However, fans of the medieval saga have had to settle for remasters, small additional content, and mobile games like ‘The Elder Scrolls: Blades.’ Well, with a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

It’s coming, it’s coming

E3 2018. Bethesda releases a teaser for ‘The Elder Scrolls 6,’ and everyone goes crazy: little did they imagine that, five years later, we still wouldn’t have more information about this sixth installment that fans have already given up on. Some believe the silver lining is that they’ll have time in their retirement to explore it fully.

The reality is different, of course, as explained by Bruce Nesmith, one of the designers of ‘Skyrim‘ who, by the way, no longer works at Bethesda: the reason for releasing the trailer was to appease toxic fans who had started threatening the studio. You know, in the classic gamer style: do it my way, or I’ll get angry and hold my breath. And really, their perspective on the gaming world and hype makes perfect sense.

“The video game industry has a short memory. All those companies that start talking about their games years before releasing them are hurting themselves. The best time to start talking about them is six months before their release,” Nesmith said. And truly, seeing the public’s reaction to delays in ‘Beyond Good and Evil 2,’ which was announced in 2008 and apparently will be released in 2024, one has to agree: announcing your games far in advance only leads to frustration.

“Just the fact that everyone had taken out their torches and tridents led Todd to say, ‘Yes, we’re going to make Elder Scrolls 6. I promise, it’s real, it will happen.’ But he warns us that indeed, we will only hear about it half a year before it goes on sale. If it works for Bethesda, who are we to say otherwise, no matter how much hype we have?”

Bethesda releases a new Elder Scrolls by surprise! But there’s a catch

Yes, a new game in the saga has been released. But no, it’s definitely not what you expect. Prepare for disappointment and you will be right.

Watch out! Your thousand alarms might have gone off: How is it possible that Bethesda, twelve years after ‘Skyrim,’ has released a new ‘The Elder Scrolls,’ and you didn’t know about it? Has the whole world gone crazy? Don’t worry: yes, they have released a new game in the series. But no, it’s definitely not what you’re expecting. Brace yourself for the disappointment, and you’ll be right on target.

Skyrim Shelter

There wasn’t even a prior announcement in a time when there are announcements for even the new updates of ‘Pokémon Go‘. That’s what Bethesda was counting on when they made ‘Elder Scrolls: Castles’, an exciting mobile game where you won’t go on adventures to kill monsters, ride beasts, or explore a gigantic map. Instead, you’ll be a king who rules over his subjects while acquiring resources and making various decisions for the future of his kingdom.

If you live in the United States, you’re in luck because you can play it right now on your Android device since it’s available as early access on the Play Store. No news, however, about iOS… or the European release. On the other hand, you’re not missing out on much. Have you played ‘Fallout Shelter’? Well, it’s the same, but with a different face.

Throughout the game, you’ll have to build a grand castle, make people work for you, and explore different ways to acquire more resources. You can decorate them as you please, with more freedom than the ‘Fallout’ spin-off. The real question is whether this is what ‘Skyrim’ and the rest of the saga’s fans are looking for as they eagerly await the imminent – figuratively speaking – announcement of the sixth installment.

‘Elder Scrolls: Castles’ might not be the game fans were eagerly demanding, but the words “microtransactions” are too enticing to overlook and not capitalize on. Bethesda knows how to play the game.

From Tamriel to Text: How ChatGPT Revives Skyrim’s Popularity Among Gamers

Skyrim continues to make people talk, this time thanks to a mod that adds compatibility with ChatGPT.

No game dies if it has a dedicated community behind it. Thanks to mods, games that have been around for years, if not decades, are still making waves, having new content and proving more refreshing than many games that have just come out. In fact, it is not uncommon for many of the most radical innovations to come from the community. Because long before any AAA game studio has experimented with AI to write dialogue for their NPCs, someone has done exactly that with a mod for Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim DOWNLOAD

The creator of this mod, Art From The Machine, has released a video of almost seven minutes showing the possibilities of using ChatGPT to make the NPCs of the game respond to our comments and our actions with stories created in a completely improvised way. Making use of xVASynth, a text-to-speech program, and Whisper, a speech-to-text program, he has also managed to make all of this possible by voice, taking the verisimilitude of the whole thing a step further. Allowing us to talk about almost anything with the characters, who will remember our previous conversations, we will know at all times that we will always receive an appropriate response beyond the limits of the script. Something that would make getting into Skyrim easier than ever.

That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have some obvious problems to overcome. Unless some limits are imposed, ChatGPT can end up overstepping the boundaries of what the characters can say, going out of character or even talking about things that have nothing to do with their world. Also, in the video there is a noticeable delay between speaking to them and the response they give, something that Art From The Machine itself has confirmed that it hopes to improve in the future.

However, we have to keep in mind that this is only a video. The demo is neither dated nor confirmed, nor can it be tested in any way. Until we see it in operation, we have to take all this with a grain of salt. Because, while it is fascinating on paper, one wonders whether it will really add anything to hear what an AI has to say without adding any more context than that, the fact that certain dialogues are written by the AI. Because at the end of the day, the interesting thing about fiction is that, like the mods, there are human beings behind it who are passionate about something they love, something that no AI, no matter how advanced, will ever be capable of.

Skyrim Together Reborn mod exceeds 80,000 downloads in 3 days

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is 11 years old now, but the modding community for this Besthesda staple is still active and bringing out new exciting content. One such mod is the Skyrim Together Reborn mod which brings a cooperative gameplay mechanic into the classic game. Skyrim Together Reborn has hit an incredible milestone recently, having been downloaded in excess of 80,000 times in three days.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim DOWNLOAD

This is a remarkable achievement, but even so, the team behind the mod, headed by Reddit user RBcosideci, AKA Robbe, has stated that they are tired and moving on to other projects.

‘The current dev team is very tired, and, frankly, is simply interested in branching out and doing other projects. We will still be here to guide new developers, review code, and perhaps occasionally implement features and fixes.

As for right now, though, we need a break. After working on this project for 1 and a half years non-stop, I will take a hiatus from the project for a few weeks. The community has all the tools available to them to install and run Reborn.’

Having experienced an incredibly successful launch, despite ‘the technical difficulties that (the team) warned about beforehand,’ Robbe and the team have decided to take a well-deserved break before continuing with other work.

In a heartwarming turn of events, Robbe gave the general Skyrim modding community permission to improve the mod as they see fit.

‘We are excited about the future of Reborn. With thousands of man hours of work put into the project already, we have done most of the heavy lifting for you. With the mod going open source, it is now up to you, the community, to step up, and further develop Reborn.’

We don’t know fully well what projects the team will be working on after their hiatus, but we do know that they have a similar mod planned for Fallout 4, another classic celebrating its 16th birthday this year.

The mod is called Fallout Together and will bring a multiplayer aspect into the game. If you like Fallout mods, boy have we got news for you: an exciting new trailer has just dropped for the highly-anticipated Fallout: London mod!

New Skyrim online co-op mod gets released this week

Mods for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim have become increasingly popular as it gives players new ways to explore the game while waiting for the next installment. However, this next mod, Skyrim Together Reborn, released on July 8th, could change the entire experience.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim DOWNLOAD

Skyrim Together Reborn is a multiplayer mod that transforms the game into an online co-op where up to eight players can play together. The mod syncs almost everything in the game, including the quests, dialogue, and loot. It will also feature a PvP mode which can be enabled for those that wish to see who the ultimate Dragonborn will be.

The mod was created by Tilted Online and is a complete remaster of their first attempt at a co-op mod, Skyrim Together. Unfortunately, the original was very buggy. However, this new version was built completely new and features many improvements over the original.

Despite being much better, there are and will always be a few flaws. These are unavoidable when trying to change single-player games into multiplayer versions. Tilted Online confirmed just how difficult this is in a recent Reddit post. They also announced that the mod isn’t perfect, there will be a few bugs, and some quests may break – but it’s still enjoyable and gives players a whole new way to experience one of Bethesda’s masterpieces, Skyrim.

Considering that this mod was achieved by a few individuals who only work on it in their spare time and without the backing and support of a major gaming studio, the results are still pretty amazing.

Bethesda fans have always had a decent modding community, as seen in this latest Skyrim mod and the recent Fallout: London mod announced. The modding communities keep the fandom alive as we await the release of Starfield next year, followed by the next installment of Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

How to play Skyrim with tips

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim presents an outstanding journey and adventure in a fantasy land. You can spend months or even years playing it and not becoming bored, as there are so many things to do.

With the Skyrim Anniversary Edition available as of November 11, 2021, gamers will be setting off on the action once again. It celebrates 10 years since the original launch. So, we’re going to show you how to play Skyrim if you’re new to the game.

What is Skyrim?

Games like Skyrim are referred to as roleplaying games, or RPG for short. It has an open-world platform, which means you can travel anywhere in Tamriel without any forced linear progression. There are plenty of quests you can embark on in a mission to level up your character, weapons, and armor to become the ultimate Dragonborn hero.

The story starts with you as a prisoner about to be beheaded. Suddenly, a dragon attacks, a mystical creature that the people of Skyrim haven’t seen for decades. You somehow hold the power to speak the same language as them, but will you use it for good or evil?

How to play Skyrim?

When it comes to learning how to play Skyrim, there’s a lot of ground to cover. You’ll need to know the basics before we can move on to more advanced tips.

Various Skyrim editions

Since the original launch of the game on PC, there have been many Skyrim editions on various platforms. They’re mostly the same in terms of gameplay, but you may find combat easier on some of them or the graphics better. For instance, the Skyrim Switch edition actually lets you move your hands with the Joy-Con controllers to hit and block.

Here are some of the top Skyrim editions:

  • Skyrim for PC
  • Skyrim PS3/PS4/PS5
  • Skyrim Xbox 360/One/Series X/S
  • Skyrim Nintendo Switch
  • Skyrim VR
  • Skyrim Legendary Edition
  • Skyrim Special Edition
  • Skyrim Anniversary Edition

Most of the latest versions include DLCs, such as Skyrim Dawnguard and Hearthfire. There’s also the popular Skyrim Creation Club where games can show off their item creations, approved by the publisher Bethesda.

Getting started

Once you’ve decided which version of The Elder Scrolls 5 you’ll be playing, you’ll need to purchase and install the game. For PC, it means downloading the files onto your computer where you have enough storage. Make sure to check the system requirements for the version of Skyrim you’ll be playing.

Character creation

With the game installed, you’re ready to play Skyrim. There will be a long introduction to the story, but it will reach a point where the guards will ask you for your details. You’ll need to select one of the races, each one with special abilities.

You can also play around with character customizations. There are face paints to apply, while you can change facial and physical features to make your hero unique. When you’re done deciding how to look, you’ll apply a name and continue with the story.

Starting out

When the first part of the story is done and you’re out of danger, you’ll be on your own with most of the tutorial complete. There will be the main quest for you to follow, but you can wander around as you wish. Take your time getting to know the basic game mechanics and explore. The quest is going nowhere.

Most of all, get used to opening your inventory and checking new items. Also, read through all your upcoming abilities when you level up. It will help you choose which path you want to focus on, which we’ll touch on more a bit later.

Main and side quests

There are three types of quests you’ll unlock once you get the hang of how to play Skyrim. The primary ones are the main missions, which will propel you towards the end of the story. There are companion, city, or guild quests that will earn you stature and unique rewards. Finally, you have random side quests if you’re looking to collect some coin or obtain a special weapon or armor set.

While you can only focus on the main quests to reach the end sooner, you may find some difficulty later in the game fighting the tough bosses and opponents. It’s best to take your time journeying through as many side quests as you can to level up and hone your skills.

Abilities and levels

Finally, you’ll need to understand how the leveling-up system works. Every time you engage in a specific activity, it slowly increases your skill in that regard. For instance, using a sword or a mace in one hand pertains to the One-handed Weapons skill. When your character levels up, you obtain points you can then use to unlock on that skill path.

However, you can only unlock it if the ability is at the correct level. So, if you want to make Dwarven armor, you need Dwarven Smithing that’s only unlocked when your Smithing level reaches 30. To speed up a specific skill, you can engage in the required activity (making potions, using magic, etc), read books, or speak to a master in that art for further progression.

Skyrim: tips and tricks

As you can see, it can be daunting learning how to play Skyrim if it’s your first time. Therefore, we’ve put together a list of tips and tricks that will help you along the way.

Start slowly

Don’t be in a rush to tackle dungeons and massive beasts too soon. If your level is too low or your weapons too weak, you’ll find your character and motivation to play Skyrim dying quickly. Take as much time as you need in each city, and make sure to complete as many quests as you can in every location before moving on.

Choose your path

It helps to select a path you want to focus on besides the main story. For instance, you can join the Mages Guild and progress towards becoming an archmage. If you join the Companions, you’ll unlock the ability to transform into a Werewolf. Each path has an ending, and then you can choose a new one to complete.

Use your abilities well

You need to strike a balance between leveling up one of your skills and distributing points between several of them. While you play, you’ll inevitably power up more than one ability. Learn which ones work well in specific situations, such as archery for more damage in quiet dungeons.

Build your wealth

You’ll need plenty of coins to buy items or books when you want to level up faster or unlock a set piece of armor. When you begin learning how to play Skyrim, try and collect as much as you can. You’ll be able to sell objects at merchants, but pay attention to which ones are more valuable than others. You can also clear out caves and kill bandits for some decent loot.

Get to know the regions and cities

Every region and city has a unique quality and theme. There’s also a Jarl that watches over the main towns, and the people are eager to give you small quests to complete to improve your reputation. Once they’re all happy and the Jarl approves, you’ll become Thane of that area with a special weapon or item as a sign of your glory.

How to play Skyrim

Learn about potions

When times are hard and you’re struggling with a mission, it helps to have a potion at hand. Whether you need to heal or become invisible, there are many types you can use to aid you. Make sure you read what each one does before your character drinks it, as not all of them will work in your favor.

How to use scrolls in Skyrim

Scrolls are magical items you can use when you need a spell, but you can’t cast it by yourself. To use a scroll in Skyrim, you need to equip it and then use it. The scroll will vanish after you’ve used it, so it helps to have a few on you, depending on the situation.

Choose what you collect

Unfortunately, Skyrim is as realistic as a fantasy game can be when it comes to inventory weight. You can’t collect everything your heart desires without slowing you down

While you can increase your Stamina when you level up or use other items to increase your limit, you’ll need to be wise on which items you pick up. You can also try and come back for anything you left behind if it hasn’t vanished by then.

Storing objects

You’ll reach a stage where you really don’t want to sell a special weapon or armor piece, or you’re rewarded with something spectacular. To avoid it taking up needed inventory space, you can store it in a chest or a safe storage unit that you own. It will remain safe from looting, while you can also display some of them on walls or unique cases.

Make your own items

While collecting items in Skyrim is fun, you can also craft many objects using your skills. With alchemy, you can make potions from various ingredients. With smithing, there are weapons and armor for you to craft. They may not be as valuable as some of the rewards from quests, but at least you won’t need to spend money on them.

Solo and companions

If you find a mission challenging to complete, you can ask someone to join you. There are some non-playable characters (NPCs) who will gladly embark on the quest for you, as long as they like you. To gain their favor, just complete a small set of tasks for them. You can also send them back home when you’re tired of them.

Buying or building a home

One of the rewards of becoming a Thane in a city is that you can buy a home there. When you own one, you can then speak to the Jarl’s assistant about decorating it. There are set pieces you can unlock, so don’t expect much customization.

With the Hearthfire DLC, or in any of the Skyrim special editions, you can build your own home in a few select locations. You need permission from the Jarl first, and then you’ll need to collect all the necessary resources. There’s a blueprint table to select how you want your home to look, and then you can start making all the decorations that go inside.

Starting a family

It can be a lonely life in Tamriel, so part of knowing how to play Skyrim is starting a family. There’s a quest you’ll need to complete if you want to marry an NPC in the game, and you can adopt children. When you have your family, you select which home they’ll stay in. Be sure to check on your partner now and again between missions, as she may have some rewards waiting for you.

How to use mods in Skyrim

The final tip we have for playing Skyrim is using mods, such as the Skyrim Nexus platform. Modders are always looking for ways to improve the game, such as enhanced, unique weapons or having plenty of followers. There are even ones for improving lighting and graphics.
