The new Call of Duty could be closer than we thought

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has started to be presented in society, knowing already when all the complete information of the game will arrive from Xbox.

There is no new year without a new Call of Duty. Activision has specialized in releasing a new game from the franchise periodically and no one manages to beat them at their game, although they try. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise us that one of the highlights of the upcoming Xbox Showcase is going to be a new Call of Duty. And they are already heating up the atmosphere for its upcoming arrival.

The Cold War pitted the United States against the former USSR in the second half of the 20th century in conflicts that took place in various countries and were led by factions financed and/or manipulated by one or the other superpower.

Activision has opened a page dedicated to the new Call of Duty, where they have uploaded two teasers of the game. The first one references the latest Black Ops, Cold War, where in the campaign we could decide whether to tell the truth or lie about the location of the game’s antagonist. In this video, we can see a group of people vandalizing Mount Rushmore. Additionally, they have already released a second video, where a group pastes a poster with the imagery from the first video on the streets.

Already officially announced, and given the references in these videos and what we know, this new Call of Duty is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. That’s why, if the leaks are true, and everything points to them being true, this game would take place during the Gulf War, in the 90s. Although, based on these two teasers, it seems that the action could very well take place closer to home than the last Call of Duty games have accustomed us to. However, there is still nothing confirmed in that regard.

Other than that, we don’t know much about this game. It would be developed mainly by Treyarch, who have already been in charge of the entire Black Ops saga in the past and would serve as a support studio for the other Call of Duty games after Black Ops Cold War. Therefore, a minimum level of quality can be expected from them.

In any case, we won’t have to wait long to know more. The Xbox Games Showcase is on June 9th. In addition, they have announced that after the Showcase they will have a specific Showcase for another game, which has already been mentioned that it is most likely to be this Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. So if you’re eager to know what’s next for the franchise, you don’t have to worry. There are less than two weeks left to find out everything.

All the details about the next Call of Duty have been leaked

All the details are leaked about the next Call of Duty, which, as the rumors said, will take place during a controversial moment: the Gulf War.

Just as a new Call of Duty game has just been released, details of the next one have already been leaked. That seems to be the fate of a franchise that sells so much like Activision’s: to always be not just a source of rumors, but also leaked information. But of course, when you’re making games to come out at least once a year, how is it possible to space out the information more?

Following the rumors previously unveiled by Windows Central, it has been confirmed that the next game in the Call of Duty franchise will be a Black Ops title. And not only that. It will be a game developed by Treyarch, set during the early ’90s, and has decided to delve into one of the most intriguing scenarios it could have chosen: the Gulf War. A highly controversial war, extensively documented.

Regarding this, sources affirm that this war was chosen precisely due to the problematic nature of its narrative. The intention is to shine a critical spotlight on it, assuming various perspectives from different participants in the conflict.

This, in turn, will allow them to move away from the quasi-futuristic style that the franchise has in its Modern Warfare titles. Here, they will focus more on traditional military technology, along with the use of gadgets typical of covert operations. As the name itself suggests, it’s Black Ops, a branch of the franchise known for its focus on missions the government would never admit to approving.

The game is expected to be released during late fall or early winter of 2024. Additionally, there are reports that Activision is exploring the possibility of offering some kind of early access service for the game. Given the reception of their last Call of Duty, this is something that would immensely benefit them.

How Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will revitalize the franchise

A beloved franchise looks to get new life with Modern Warfare.

Modern Warfare

There was a time when Call of Duty was one of the most inescapable franchises in the world. Peaking in popularity with the Modern Warfare series, especially Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty was seen as the gaming industry’s signature AAA franchise. While it was eventually dethroned as the most popular AAA franchise, Call of Duty, especially the Modern Warfare subseries, is seen as a defining game series of the Xbox 360/PS3 generation.

After the Modern Warfare subseries ended with Modern Warfare 3 in 2011, the series took a number of creative risks to varying results. From going to the close and distant future to introducing classes with special abilities, to even going back the CoD’s WWII roots, the series never quite managed to recapture that Modern Warfare fervor.

Fans seemed to dislike Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in particular, as its trailer is one of the most disliked YouTube videos in history. When the original Modern Warfare designers left Infinity Ward to form Reflex (which went on to make Titanfall and Apex Legends), it seemed all hope of a new Modern Warfare was lost.

Now, it seems our prayers have been answered.

Modern Warfare is finally back with a brand new reboot. As the first new game in the series in nearly a decade, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has plenty of expectations to shoulder. Based on all of the news we’ve seen so far, they’re headed in the right direction.

According to prerelease material, the series is placing a greater emphasis on morally gray politically-relevant conflicts this time, aiming to showcase the horrors of the modern world and the powers that be. While specific details have been scarce, it has been reported that certain campaign scenes have been so emotionally powerful that playtesters have cried while viewing them.

The focus on tragedy and morally unsound conflict brings up memories of Modern Warfare 2’s infamous “No Russian” mission, which had the player take part in a terrorist attack on an airport. The series has mostly failed to recapture this sense of realistic shock, so it’ll be interesting to see if they can truly shock the world again. The developers have classified the story as a reboot of the Modern Warfare franchise, and staple character Captain Price returns.

Gameplay-wise things are shaking up as well. The release trailer has shown us that leaning out of cover has been added to the series, and developers have described the gameplay as more methodical than previous games. For the first time in years, the CoD series is getting a brand new engine, allowing for tweaked gameplay and more photorealistic visuals.

And of course, what would Call of Duty be without multiplayer? Infinity Ward has already announced two major improvements for the series moving forward. First, similar to Fortnite, Modern Warfare will be cross-compatible among gaming platforms, including console to PC. Additionally, Infinity Ward has said that the game will not feature a season pass, meaning that all downloadable content will be free moving forward. This is a huge step forward for the Call of Duty series, which has been criticized for years for its overpriced map packs that fragment the player base. Both additions cast Modern Warfare as the series’ most consumer-friendly game yet.

While details are still scarce, we’re still incredibly excited for Modern Warfare from what we’ve heard. What do you think?
