A lesser-known aspect of this story is the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 WaveNet version, which incorporated online gaming technology through a dedicated system called WaveNet. This technology, although advanced for its time, was only used in a limited number of arcades in Chicago and San Francisco, allowing approximately 500 people to experience what could be considered the precursor to modern online gaming. This version was thought to be lost in the history of video games, but it is mentioned that Midway preserved its existence as the saga evolved towards new technological directions.

Recently, Digital Eclipse, known for restoring and revitalizing classics of the fighting genre, announced that it plans to revive Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 WaveNet, in addition to enabling online gameplay with modern adjustments. This initiative not only seeks to honor the legacy of the game but also to adapt it to the current reality, where online gaming is essential in the competition of fighting video games.

Despite the fact that some players prefer the experience of original arcade machines, the evolution of the digital realm suggests that the arrival of restored versions, including the WaveNet system, can add a new level of accessibility and competitiveness to the beloved Mortal Kombat saga.

There is no game more unanimously loved than Tetris. If there is, we don’t want to know it. Mainly because it’s hard for us to think of anyone who actively dislikes Tetris. There are many people who are not interested in it. But to dislike it, that’s another matter. And to like it, we can find millions of people for whom it is, literally, the only video game they play. This makes it an important video game and one that is always worth dedicating some thought to.

Something well known at Digital Eclipse, who have announced the release date of Tetris Forever. A compilation of 15 Tetris games —including the original Tetris, Hatris, Tetris 2, Bombliss, Tetris Battle Gaiden, and variants of these— along with design documents, documentaries, and a timeline that details the evolution of the most famous and legendary game in history over time.

Of course, many Tetris games are missing here. This is likely due to licensing issues, as most of them are either Nintendo or Disney games. But it is also true that, if they are mentioned in the game, the ones that can be played are a good representation of the origins of Tetris. Even if we would have liked a bit more variety. Or if they had pushed a little further back in time to include some of the most important titles in history, like Tetris: The Grand Master.

Tetris Forever, which is considered the third installment of its Gold Master Series collection, will be released on November 12th. The previous two installments of the Gold Master Series are dedicated to Prince of Persia and British developer Jeff Minter, and if you missed them, we also recommend them as they are absolute marvels both as video game compilations and as small virtual museums. Digital Eclipse is a studio specialized in bringing retro titles to life. They create compilations of games from consoles that are no longer available for sale, but they also work on remasters and reimaginings of titles that have been forgotten or become obsolete for various reasons. Their latest release falls into the latter category, and it happens to be one of the most important games of all time: Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord.

Originally published for the Apple II in 1981 by Sir-Tech Software and designed by Andrew Greenberg and Robert Woodhead, it is considered the progenitor of RPGs. One of the most influential games of all time, it shaped the foundations of what we now understand as an RPG.

In early access, Digital Eclipse believes that the full game will be released by the end of 2024. Promising regular updates every two months, this version of Wizardry is built on top of the original Apple II version. This means that with just a key press, you can switch between the original Apple II version and the modernized version, allowing you to compare the changes between both versions in real-time.
