One of the best hack and slash games in history arrives at GOG

Competition is positive. It brings variety and creates space for different types of experiences. In the case of GOG, what they offer is greater care for the games they release, putting much more weight on old video games. Not allowing them to die, they make a particular effort to preserve them, pamper them, and ensure that they are always available to the public. That’s why they recently rescued the PC edition of Resident Evil from oblivion, and today they added a masterpiece to their catalog.

GOG surprisingly added Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to its catalog on Thursday, July 4th. With a 40% discount to celebrate its release, it’s an excellent opportunity to get one of the most underrated games in the Metal Gear franchise. Besides being one of the best hack’n’slash games of all time.

If you don’t know Metal Gear Rising, you don’t know what kind of journey you’re getting into. In the game, we control Raiden, a cyborg ninja who must stop a global conspiracy that seeks to create a state of perpetual war. This will lead him to intense battles against robots, ninjas, and giant robots where he can use parries, dodges, sword strikes, and also the zaibatsu: the ability to slow down time to shred his enemies with quick and deep cuts into their flesh. So if you’ve ever wanted to know what it feels like to tear apart a cyborg ninja who wants to kill you, this is your game.

The most fun thing about this release is that Metal Gear Rising was already available on Steam. It’s not a lost game. But what’s more, the game doesn’t shy away from making it noticeable. Not for nothing, this reissue even makes a call to the Steam API, returning a false confirmation of the game to approve its execution. Basically, the GOG version is, so to speak, an official cracked version of the Steam version. Something that demonstrates the laziness of Konami’s work, but also how hilarious video games can be sometimes.

That being said, why buy it on GOG instead of Steam? Because it is DRM-free. If you buy it on GOG, the game will be yours forever. Regardless of whether the store closes, the game will still be yours. If you want to take the game, compress it, and pass it on to a friend, you can do it. It’s yours and you can do whatever you want with it. And that’s the other great virtue that many of us love about GOG. And why we celebrate the arrival of Metal Gear Rising to the store. Because games are always better without DRM.

The original Resident Evil arrives on PC

Resident Evil llega a PC, a través de GOG, y confirman que, durante el año, también llegarán Resident Evil 2 y Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Many games from the 90s are still incredibly fun to play today. There is no reason why they shouldn’t be. Just like movies from 30 or 40 years ago can still be watched without any problem, the same goes for video games. They may have had different design ideas, different limitations, but that doesn’t mean they are outdated or surpassed. And the first three Resident Evil games prove that perfectly.

Recently, a age rating leak hinted that the first Resident Evil was going to be released in its original 1996 version for PC. And that’s exactly what happened. But those who were expecting a release on Steam will be disappointed. GOG, the digital store for preserving old games from the creators of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, has made the game’s port. They have it exclusively, with numerous improvements, to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible on modern PCs.

Of course, the good news doesn’t end here. The entire Resident Evil franchise revolutionized the survival horror genre, something we will be able to experience throughout 2024. Because GOG has confirmed that Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis will also be available on the platform this year, being available for all PC players. Offering us an experience exactly like the original, but without frame drops or texture loading issues.

While it is true that all three games have remakes, these ports were really necessary as a preservation and accessibility measure. Although the first Resident Evil is accessible on PlayStation Plus and its remake is quite faithful to the original, it was not available as a standalone download on any service. In the case of its second and third installments, their remakes were much more divergent and, furthermore, they are currently absolutely impossible to play legally, at least until GOG publishes them on their platform.

If you are interested in knowing more, the youtuber Suzi Hunter, better known as TheSphereHunter, has made a promotional video about the importance of the franchise where she has spoken with the technical producer and the business development manager of GOG. Resident Evil is now available for €9.99 and also in a bundle with its two sequels for €24.99.

The next generation patch for Fallout 4 has disrupted plans for the biggest mod to date for the game

Fallout 4 is set to receive a new major patch, but this has disrupted the release of the largest mod for the game to date: Fallout: London.

Many franchises stay alive thanks to the passion of fans. Sometimes, that passion is rewarded with a new life. This is what is happening with the Fallout saga, but especially with its latest numbered installment, Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 DOWNLOAD

The reasons for this are evident. On one hand, the Fallout series on Amazon Prime has just premiered. Being a critical and public success, with both audiences excited about it, it is normal for there to be a revitalization of interest in the franchise. Bethesda, the company behind it, has also taken advantage of the momentum. With all the games on sale on different platforms, with new content for their active games and with Amazon’s Prime Gaming giving away three of the games (Fallout 76, Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas), it is logical that there is a resurgence.

Even so, the biggest resurgence of all is from Fallout 4. Probably because it’s the latest single-player installment, but also because Bethesda took the opportunity to make a big announcement. The long-awaited Fallout 4 patch for the new generation is just around the corner. And it won’t just make the game compatible with the capabilities of the current console generation, but it will also include new content for the game.

Unfortunately, not everything is good news. As the community has pointed out, this update has the potential to break game compatibility with mods. Something that has already happened in the past with other major updates, and is expected to happen again now.

This is particularly tragic because what has kept Fallout 4 alive until now is the passion of the community. Something that includes all the changes they have made to the game in the form of mods, to change all kinds of elements of the game. From cosmetic issues to fixing problems that Bethesda hadn’t touched until now. Including introducing new content. Something that will be done by one of the most anticipated mods by the community, and one of the mods most affected by all this: Fallout London.

Fallout: London is a total conversion of Fallout 4 that allows us to play a new campaign in which we will experience the Fallout universe in a completely different setting, in a post-apocalyptic London. Team Folon, the team behind this game, announced last December that this mod would be released on April 23rd. Something that their leader, Dean Carter, has had to cancel, announcing an indefinite delay for the campaign.

The reason is that the next generation update for Fallout 4 will be released two days later, on April 25th. This potentially makes Fallout London unplayable two days after its release. That’s why, considering they will need an additional month of work to make it compatible, they have preferred to delay its release until everything is ready and they can guarantee its full compatibility with the game.

This is not the only issue with Fallout: London. With a size of around 30-40GB, the most popular modding platform, Nexus Mods, cannot host it. Something that the Folon team has found the best possible solution for.

After reaching an agreement with GOG, the video game store from the creators of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, they will be able to distribute Fallout: London through their store. This will allow installing the mod in Fallout 4 both on GOG and Steam, and if they manage to reach an agreement with them, even on Epic Games. This would facilitate its distribution.

While many fans were eagerly awaiting Fallout: London, we will still have to wait a little longer to enjoy this modification. Everything will depend on Bethesda and what happens on the next 25th. Whether they have finally taken into account all the people who have kept their game alive all these years, or simply decided to ignore them.

Crime Epic on a Budget: Dive into the Yakuza Universe on PC for Less Than 35 Euros!

Yakuza arrives on the GOG digital platform offering a ridiculous price for the first seven installments of the franchise for a limited time

Although we live in a global world, not everything around us is equally global. Many things that surround us have an obvious local flavor and therefore have a hard time leaving a certain environment or fail to take hold outside of a certain context. Sometimes they simply need time. Letting them grow little by little, slowly permeating people’s cultural imagination, until they become part of their daily lives. Exactly as has happened with the Yakuza franchise.

GOG Galaxy DOWNLOAD

While it is true that the Yakuza franchise has arrived more or less regularly in the West, it is no less true that it has always been very niche. Only since Yakuza 0 and later Yakuza 6: The Song of Life began to make more noise, settling as a great franchise to be reckoned with his jump to the J-RPG in the excellent Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Seventh installment of the blood that changed the name to the Japanese, Like A Dragon, to capitalize on the growing success of the saga taking advantage of its jump to a new genre with a new protagonist.

So it’s great news that virtually the entire Yakuza franchise has arrived on the GOG digital store. Available from Yakuza 0 to Yakuza 6, these seven games would normally cost 112 euros, but being newly released, Yakuza Complete Series can be purchased for the ridiculous price of 33.99 euros. A truly laughable price when we take into account that between the seven games we have more than 200 hours of gameplay telling only their main stories. Probably more than 1,000 if we are completists.

In addition, it is worth remembering that the Yakuza saga is far from ending soon. Its more action-focused spinoff Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is out on November 9 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PC, while Yakuza 8, better known as Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which will continue its J-RPG style, is out in early 2024 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PC. So if there’s a time to jump into the pool and buy almost every Yakuza at an absolutely ridiculous price, this is it. May nothing make you regret not making your 2023 the summer of Yakuza.
