The series Daredevil: Born Again has been a breath of fresh air after several superhero series that have failed to engage, revitalizing faith in Marvel Studios thanks to a serious and respectful approach towards its audience. The return of Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, is characterized by its intensity and quality, exceeding the expectations that had been set after its time on Netflix.

Frank Castle without half measures

A highlighted element of this new release is the return of Frank Castle, known as The Punisher, portrayed by Jon Bernthal. Additionally, a special is being developed in which Jon Bernthal will also be involved, ensuring that the content is strong and true to the character, which intensifies the anticipation surrounding his return.

During a recent interview at the SXSW festival, Bernthal made it clear that the special will be a tough and emotional journey worthy of the Punisher’s legacy. With a premiere scheduled for 2026, fans will need to be patient, although the return of this iconic character guarantees a captivating plot that will bring back old memories of the original series.

Meanwhile, the new episodes of Daredevil: Born Again will premiere every Tuesday on Disney+, providing fans with fresh and exciting content. This weekly approach aims to maintain a pace that keeps the audience’s attention and alleviates the long waits for the Punisher special, which promises to be a significant event in the Marvel universe. The connection between both characters has generated a lot of dialogue on social media, highlighting the excitement surrounding this new phase of Marvel on the small screen.

25 years ago, Marvel predicted the story of Luigi Mangione in a Punisher comic

There is no one left in the world who doesn’t know Luigi Mangione, the man romanticized by the Internet who cold-bloodedly murdered the CEO of UnitedHealthCare. Some call him a hero, others consider him a villain of our times, and some believe it has been the wake-up call that the United States needs to change its values regarding healthcare. And a few have delved into pop culture to find similarities. Because, as they said in Battlestar Galactica, all of this has happened… and will happen again. Punisher Mangione

It was the year 2000 when Garth Ennis, Steve Dillon, and Jimmy Palmiotti tried to revitalize the story of Punisher, which had been in limbo with very short collections for a while. The vigilante from Marvel, always with his gun ready to dispense his justice where the courts cannot (or do not want to) returned at the hands of a team that did not hold back in violence and blood, and at the beginning of the century, that was saying a lot.

In that story, Frank Castle returned to action, discovering that his actions had created antiheroes like Mister Payback. And what did this man do? He took revenge against the CEOs of companies by murdering them throughout New York. Does it sound familiar? Moreover, he had a manifesto: after shooting one of these bosses live, he spoke to the television cameras saying “They call me a criminal, although all I do is execute trash that feeds off the blood of millions of people (…) and run American businesses like a gigantic death machine”.

Of course, Punisher had a problem with him: in his killings, they also accidentally killed up to four innocents, and he was not willing to allow it… so he finished them off with clean shots. And regardless of what anyone thinks, we can see Luigi Mangione in all these panels… And fortunately, that ending doesn’t seem likely.

From Stranger to Vigilante: The Intriguing Transformation of the New Punisher

If you’ve only seen the Marvel movies, you probably don’t believe this is real, but I assure you: it is. And how.

It is perfectly normal for Marvel characters to die, resurrect, change their identity, try to present a new one… Since issue 4 of ‘Avengers’ in which Captain America was resurrected after being frozen for twenty years, twists and turns have been part of the DNA of the house. But, in spite of everything, what has happened with the Punisher (The Punisher, for the veterans) is bizarre, unprecedented and very, very crazy. Let us tell you about it.

Is an ex-Punisher

First, the headline: Punisher, now, is a Joe Garrison, who will not ring a bell even if you are Marvel experts because he is a new character created in the wake of the last thing that happened to Frank Castle in the last miniseries scripted by Jason Aaron. If you’ve only seen the Marvel movies you probably won’t believe this is real, but I assure you: it is. And in what a way.

We all know (more or less) that Frank Castle became who he is the day his wife and children died. Okay. Things have changed a bit in the fifty years that the character has been dishing out bullets here and there. And it turns out he’s been cast as the avatar of the Beast, a god of murder (not the first time he’s been an angel or something, by the way), which leads to being able to resurrect his wife Mary once and for all.

During his stint as an angel of death, Punisher kills the god Ares and gets new Inhuman superpowers. Everything seems to be going swimmingly for him, within his usual uneasiness. And then, when Mary comes back to life, he tells her what he wanted to tell her the day he died in the park: “We’re done, Frank, I want a divorce“. Boom. She also informs him that she has sold all her shelters and stuff, and has given her half of the proceeds to various NGOs. “This is how you honor your dead family, Frank. Not by using them as an excuse for murder.”

Of course, after this, Frank Castle couldn’t just come back, and his place has been taken by this Joe Garrison, who no one knows anything about beyond being a SHIELD double agent whose past haunts him. I give it three months until Frank Castle shoots him as a welcome back to Marvel.
