Shortage of good IT professionals

This situation becomes a factor that contributes to the increase of ‘generalist IT’ roles, which require broad knowledge in various IT functions due to the shortage of skilled workers.

Doug Murray, CEO of Auvik, points out that the growing variety of tools and technologies increases the burden, with almost 50% of professionals reporting the use of more than 10 network tools and 47% expressing frustration at not being consulted in the process of acquiring these tools.

Despite the exhaustion, IT professionals are showing a growing interest in working with artificial intelligence (AI) and automation to free up time and focus on more strategic initiatives.

However, this view is not always shared with senior management; 20-24% of respondents are not satisfied with the current AI onboarding policy, and 34% do not have a defined policy to address concerns related to this technology.

One of the main changes announced is the way the Task Manager calculates CPU usage. Users previously could notice discrepancies in the data displayed in the Processes and Performance tabs.

The pending task of Windows 11

From now on, Task Manager will use standard metrics to maintain consistency in CPU usage values across different tabs, thus aligning with industry standards and third-party tools. Additionally, a new optional column will be introduced in the Details tab that will show the previous CPU value used in the Processes tab.

On the other hand, the company is optimizing the use of emojis in Windows 11. Although there is already a shortcut to access the emoji panel (Windows + .), Microsoft is testing a new icon in the system tray that will facilitate access to emojis, GIFs, and special characters, potentially enhancing the user experience.

Likewise, support for widgets on the lock screen is being implemented in the EEA, allowing users to add, remove, and rearrange widgets such as weather and others.

In the future, a new group policy will be introduced that will allow IT administrators to disable widgets on the lock screen without affecting the functionality of widgets in other parts of the system, although this policy is currently only available in the EEA.

The M4 Max, similar to the one launched last year in the MacBook Pro, offers robust performance, while the M3 Ultra positions itself as Apple’s most powerful processor to date.

This one features a configuration of up to 32 cores in its CPU —24 of which are high-performance cores—, 80 cores in the GPU and a 32-core Neural Engine.

The most powerful model with the M3 Ultra will cost nearly $4,000

The M3 Ultra has demonstrated exceptional performance in high-demand applications, such as Cinema 4D, showcasing its ability to efficiently handle intensive workloads.

In a demonstration, the chip drastically reduced the time for complex tasks, such as foliage scattering in a landscape, which would normally have taken a day, to just a few minutes.

In another case, a demo of Cyberpunk 2077 was also shown running at 60 fps with full ray tracing, showcasing the graphical capabilities offered by the new hardware.

In terms of storage, the M3 Ultra allows for up to 16 TB of internal storage and 512 GB of unified memory, with an impressive bandwidth of 800 GB/s.

For its part, the model with the M4 Max chip will start at $1,999, while the M3 Ultra will start at $3,999, with availability for pre-order starting today and a scheduled launch on March 12.

Despite the new additions, Apple has not introduced an M4 Ultra chip, following a trend of not releasing an Ultra in every silicon generation.
