Forget the games and the series: The Witcher returns to its original format with new stories

Little did Andrezj Sapkowski imagine in 1986, when he wrote the story The Witcher for a contest (where he didn’t even win), that the saga would make him a millionaire and that forty years later he would still be writing about the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, even though some only know The Witcher from Netflix or, of course, from his video game series.

Toss a coin to your novelist

Now, at 76 years old and a decade after Storm Season, he has declared that he already has a new book prepared with Geralt as the central protagonist, perhaps in response to a Netflix series that, despite being announced as faithful, took all kinds of creative liberties, and to a game that goes straight to the point, with its own continuity.

For now, all we know is that the novel is completely finished and will not be part of the pentalogy that made the character famous and culminated in 1999 with The Lady of the Lake. However, even though he has stated that he will go on his own, he has not been able to leave the door open for a future saga. Hey, who knows.

“I don’t have any plans right now. I finished the book. It took me maybe two years or so,” he said, unintentionally embarrassing the other great author of epic novels, George RR Martin, whose A Song of Ice and Fire has been on hiatus for a long time and he is unable to continue with it. And if you’re wondering when these new adventures will be released, they are expected to come out in winter of this year.

Interestingly, it will coincide with the release of the new anime spin-off of the series, Sirens of the Deep, and with the filming of that new season on Netflix that, after the departure of Henry Cavill, there are not a few who look at it with suspicion. It had to be Sapkowski himself who slammed his fist on the table to make it clear that there is a future for his saga… but he will mark it himself. Witchcraft stuff.

The online game of The Witcher that has ended… And from now on, it will be directed by the community.

Version 11.10 of the game has, therefore, been the final one, leaving the players in the hands of themselves. As if it were a commune, the most powerful members of the community (those with Prestige 1 or those who participated a lot in the previous season) will decide each month which cards increase or decrease their power.

Ciri is in danger! Everything is falling apart! Come on, Geralt, you must hurry to deal with those monsters plaguing the Continent! Although, well, there’s always time for a game of Gwent now and then. If you’ve played ‘The Witcher 3‘, you know that the game itself is good, but what really hooks you are the card games. Knowing this, CD Projekt created an exclusive spin-off that is now closing its doors. Well, sort of.

Gwent Stacy

Gwent was born as a free-to-play game on October 23, 2018, on PC. Later, it was released on PS4, Xbox One, iOS, Android, and even Mac. The commitment was so strong that it was even launched with a spin-off that featured a campaign instead of focusing on online multiplayer, ‘Thronebreaker.’ At its peak, up to a hundred people were involved in its maintenance, improvement, and decision-making until, inevitably, it has come to an end.

According to the team, it was not an economic decision: it was motivated by the lack of new ideas for cards. And, as everyone knows, ideas are finite and you can’t get more. version 11.10 of the game has, therefore, been the final, leaving the players in the hands of themselves. As if it were a commune, the most powerful community members (those with Prestige 1 or those who participated a lot in the previous season) will decide each month which cards increase or decrease their power.

Between 3 and 15 cards will change to apparently make the game fairer while CD Projekt washes its hands after laying off about a hundred team members in recent months. By the way, the move backfired because instead of scaring the players, it encouraged them to form a union. What ‘The Witcher‘ has brought together, may not be torn asunder by bankruptcy.

The Witcher 3 gets a next-gen update that transforms the visuals

The Witcher from CD Projekt Red has always been a beautiful game with depth and fantastic storytelling. However, for a game that’s seven years old, the visuals and graphics were due for a facelift. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was given just that in a recent next-gen update. But how will that affect the game?

The next-gen patch is being released today and will be available for free. This patch boosts the game if you’re playing on Xbox Series S/X, Playstation 5 or a high-end PC.

Once the update has been installed, it’ll offer the player two different graphics options. The first focuses on high-end visual effects. This includes ray tracing that drastically improves the lighting in The Witcher 3. This has an amazing effect on the already beautiful open-world landscape in the game. The second option emphasizes performance at 60fps.

Either of these options makes a big difference to the visuals and graphics of the game. The difference is immediately apparent. The game is beautifully detailed, and the lighting makes it possible to ride on horseback to enjoy the views. If only there was a camera mode so you could take full advantage of the beautiful views. Now, you can, as the update includes a photo mode.

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update

Despite its beautiful landscapes, The Witcher 3 has always been a bit buggy, although nowhere near as rough as Cyberpunk 2077. Most of the issues have been addressed. However, some of these bugs are still present, even after the update. Players mentioned that they still experience gravity-defying hair movements and bouncing bodies of slain monsters. Despite these minor issues, the game runs smoothly with the new update.

It should be noted that this is not a full overhaul like The Last of Us. Instead, this is just a next-gen patch. This means that there are a few things that still make the game feel like it was launched a while ago. The wonky character graphics and gravity effects (or lack of) on certain objects can still make the game feel dated.

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update

However, The Witcher 3 is beloved because of its dynamic storytelling and role-playing elements. These are still present and, when combined with the improvements to the graphics, make a big difference. The improved frame rate, smoother controls and fewer technical issues make for a much better gaming experience.

So, if you love The Witcher and want to replay the game, or if you want to try it out for the first time, this next-gen update for The Witcher 3 will leave you wanting more! Luckily Netflix has you covered with more plans for the Witcher franchise and other loved video games, albeit without Henry Cavill. We wonder how that’ll work out for fans that loved the actor’s portrayal of Geralt. CD Projekt Red is also working on new Witcher games among others.
