The Windows Module Installer, also known as WMIW or TiWorker.exe, is a fundamental component for the proper functioning of your operating system. It performs the basic maintenance tasks of your computer as well as searching for and installing all the updates that your operating system may need. It is, therefore, a process closely linked to Windows Update.
One of the primary functions of Windows Modules Installer Worker is to ensure that your computer will continue to work after any Windows update. To do this, WMIW updates all Windows files as well as creating a backup copy of any old files that may remain installed.
As we mentioned in the previous point, the Windows Module Installer is responsible for performing updates to your computer and ensuring that, once completed, it will continue to function normally. Microsoft has decided that it no longer needs to waste tech support time and money on Windows 7 and Windows 8. In January 2023, you’ll no longer see any updates appear or fixes to any bugs. What it also means is that there won’t be anymore support for Microsoft Edge for either of these operating systems. Thankfully, it will remain on Windows 11.
When Microsoft moved toward an Edge Chromium platform, it offered vast improvements, especially for Windows 10 and 11. With the company no longer offering support for the older operating systems, there won’t be updates for ME on them either. Even the former paid model for extended support will fall away.
Of course, that means that anyone still using Windows 7 or 8 and the associated Microsoft Edge app on them may be in for security issues. If you don’t know this already, let me teach you something. Hackers love to use malicious software to attack vulnerable systems. If operating systems become outdated, they end up being prime security targets.
This move by Microsoft not to update Edge on older operating systems may be to force members to upgrade to Windows 11. Even Windows 10 may become redundant, with apps like Media Play only receiving the latest updates on the latest system. Since the upgrade to W11 is free for current users, why aren’t more people doing so?
The issue is primarily with Windows 11 requirements. Not everyone can afford the high-tech systems needed to run it, as computers and laptops haven’t really come down in price by much. That means many people are forced to remain on outdated systems that become security risks. Perhaps if Microsoft offered free computer upgrades, that would help. Unlikely, but we can dream.
