Top 8 ShareMe features and functions for PC users

The ShareMe wireless file sharing tool is a rebranded version of Mi Drop, the original sharing application from Xiaomi. During the redesign, developers introduced several operating and interface updates that significantly changed how users experience the file-sharing app. If you need to transfer data between your smartphone and PC quickly, without using cables or an internet connection, ShareMe is one of the best solutions available.

The following list of eight key features covers everything PC users should know about ShareMe. The application deploys File Transfer Protocol (FTP) technology to link two separate devices to allow a high-speed data transfer that, according to Xiaomi, is nearly 200 times faster than Bluetooth connectivity. Here are the 10 leading functions and attributes of Xiaomi’s ShareMe app (formerly Mi Drop), one of the most popular file-sharing applications in the Play Store.

ShareMe for PC Download

Wi-Fi Direct

ShareMe uses certified Wi-Fi Direct technology to enable wireless file sharing between mobile devices and PCs without a standard internet connection. Wi-Fi Direct allows two interlinked devices to communicate, streamlining tasks such as printing and file sharing without the need to connect to a traditional office, home, or public network.

ShareMe uses WiFi Direct to allow its users to transmit files between devices

Multibranded file sharing capabilities

ShareMe lets you transmit files between your tablets, phones, and computers. Perhaps even more convenient is that you don’t need a Xiaomi phone to accomplish this. ShareMe users can quickly copy and transfer files between iPhone and Android devices along with any compatible Mac or PC connected to the localized network.

ShareMe doesn't require a Xiaomi phone, allowing you to transmit files to any device with a compatible operating system

A simplified user interface

When Xiaomi redesigned Mi Drop, they did so with a clean, minimalist user interface in mind. All your options are displayed directly on the home page, so you never have to waste time digging for hidden features and files. The search box expedites all your inquiries, allowing you to type in the names of files and any application tools you need to access directly.

The ShareMe redesign of Mi Drop adopted a cleaner and more minimalistic interface to simplify the user experience

Personalized account settings

When you register to use ShareMe, the application assigns a name to your device by default. However, you can change this setting to personalize your ShareMe account and simplify the process of locating a given device later. After you grant the application access to your photos, media, and files, ShareMe will prompt you to select a unique avatar and name for your profile.

Allow ShareMe to access the data on your device before personalizing your account

The send button

After setting your permissions, you can access the Send button to choose and deliver the files you want to be transferred. While ShareMe’s default settings display the installed applications only, remember that you can send songs, photos, scratch audio files, and just about any document by tapping the ribbon at the top of your screen. Locate the files you want to transfer, select them, and click the Send button. For the receiving device, follow the same setup procedure and adjust the mode to Receive before completing the transfer process.

Select your files and tap the send button to transmit your data to the receiving device

The scan QR code button

Quick Response (QR) codes consist of a special type of machine-readable “matrix” barcodes that are two-dimensional and typically used for storing URLs and links to other information. ShareMe lets you scan a unique QR code to quickly set up a local hotspot and transfer data between files. Upon instigating a transfer session by scanning the code with your smartphone camera, the ShareMe app displays the avatars of any nearby receiving devices. To start the high-speed transmission, simply select the device you want to link.

Start a transfer session quickly by using QR codes to link your device

Mobile to PC file sharing

You can also share files to a PC, not just between two mobile devices. To send files from your smartphone to a PC, start by connecting your computer to the same localized network. Navigate to the dropdown menu options on the left, and find Connect to computer. You’ll see a Wi-Fi strength indicator and the option to create a local hotspot. Click Start and select Portable from the options list. At the bottom of the screen, you’ll notice the FTP server. To access the files on your mobile phone, open File Explorer on your PC, type the FTP address and tap Enter.

The ShareMe application is one of the best ways to move files from a mobile phone to your PC without an internet connection

iOS file sharing

While the ShareMe application doesn’t limit sharing between devices, it won’t restrict the transfer of files from one operating system to another either. If you need to move data from an Android to an iPhone without accessing the internet, the WebShare module makes this process easy. Set the username and password for your hotspot, and ShareMe gives you an FTP address or QR code to complete the transfer.

ShareMe enables you to transfer files across various operating system including Android to iOS

Faster file transfers

While Bluetooth undeniably revolutionized wireless data exchanging, the File Transfer Protocol technology used by ShareMe has elevated this concept to new levels. A fast, adaptive, and secure protocol means that the ShareMe software from Xiaomi gives you access to one of the most protected high-speed transfer technologies available today. Check out more information about file-sharing apps here.

File Transfer Protocol technology means that ShareMe users can transfer their data at lightening speeds without ever connecting to the internet

Lightyear blasts onto Disney+ for your viewing pleasure

To infinity, and beyond! That’s right, the adorable spaceman from Toy Story finally has an origin movie called Lightyear, and it’s coming to Disney+ as of today, August 3, 2022. While the show looks incredible on the big screen, you’ll now be able to enjoy it from the comfort of your home.

So, join the adventure as we see what happened to the original Buzz Lightyear before they made thousands of toys based on the hero. It’s a science fiction adventure you won’t want to miss. Remember, you need to sign up for a Disney+ subscription to watch this Pixar tale.

A Disney+ science fiction tale you won’t forget

Chris Evans takes over the role of the original Buzz Lightyear from the toy version played by Tim Allen in the Toy Story movies. The new Disney+ movie from Pixar showcases what happened to the hero when he traveled to a distant planet, about 4.2 million light-years from Earth. With him and his crew marooned on this alien world, drama and adventure unfold in a series of science fiction events.

As you’d expect from a Pixar film, Lightyear has several fun and adorable moments. There’s the robot cat companion named Sox, for one. While you and your children will laugh at its antics, you’ll discover how serious the movie becomes when Zurg arrives with an army of ruthless robots. They’re set to destroy you and anyone that gets in their way.

Splendid cast for an action-packed movie

Besides Chris Evans, the scene is set with plenty of Hollywood stars you’ll recognize. Uzo Aduba is his right-hand commander, Alisha Hawthorne, while Peter Sohn is the voice behind the robotic cat, Sox. Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, and Dale Soules are the voices behind some of the other crew, while the almighty villain Zurg is portrayed by James Brolin.

The animated visuals and stunning sound effects of Lightyear make you feel like you’re part of the science fiction adventure, even while viewing it at home with Disney+. There’s a fine balance between the slow drama and the fast-paced action when Zurg unleashes his robot army. Will Buzz Lightyear and his crew be able to escape this inhospitable planet and find their way home to tell us all about it?

League of Legends Project L fighting game will be free-to-play with monetization

This isn’t Riot’s first adventure with free-to-play games, as fans of League of Legends and Valorant will know. The upcoming 2D fighting game from the LoL universe, Project L, will also cost you nothing unless, of course, you buy in-game items. As an exciting update, the champion Illaoi will be one of the selectable characters.

League of Legends DOWNLOAD

The news follows an update by the developer and publisher, Riot Games. The plan was always to keep the game free while allowing players to buy extra items if they wish. Tom Cannon, the executive producer for Project L, says that they’ll be considerate when asking for your money. They want to ensure that the main focus is on the game and not profits.

As for the champion Illaoi, a recent blog post shows the lengthy process when deciding on and developing a character for Project L. Once the team has decided which character to work on next from the roster of fighters, there’s a lot to be done. Team meetings are abundant, tasks are handed out in quick succession, and there’s loads of project management happening between various disciplines.

It’s impressive to see how much thinking goes into a champion like Illaoi for the Project L fighting game. Some of the factors include themes, archetypes, fight fantasy, race, personality, and more. That means we’re bound to receive more lore and origin stories for the characters than we currently see in League of Legends.

League of Legends Project L fighting game

It’s almost as exciting as when League of Legends: Wild Rift introduced new champions and content last month. If the development blog is anything to go by, Project L is bound to be one fantastic 2D fantasy fighting game.

Robinhood delivers a massive blow with a new company structure

The company of the trading app, Robinhood, has had to deliver some bad news to almost a quarter of its employees. Due to dwindling crypto rates and huge inflation rates, it doesn’t have the financial capacity to hold as much staff as it does. This will be the second time this year that it decided to lay off some of its members.

Robinhood DOWNLOAD

CEO Vlad Tenev admitted that he was partly to blame for what happened. When Robinhood rose in stocks and value, the company envisioned plenty of investors flocking its way. It was during the early stages of the pandemic when members were trading left, right, and center and providing loads of revenue for the company.

However, the latest blog revealed that Robinhood had made a tremendous miscalculation, or prediction, about how many employees it would need for the road ahead. Now, about 23% of the employees will no longer have jobs by later this year. It’s giving them until October to find something new.

“This change will flatten hierarchies, reduce cross-functional dependencies, and remove redundant roles and positions.”

Robinhood delivers a massive blow with a new company structure

It’s incredibly sad to hear that your position has become redundant and is no longer needed. Based on my experience in corporate environments, it sounds like they’ll be asking those that remain to take on more than one role, which means more work with probably the same pay. That’s usually what happens in businesses that either need to sink or swim.

With the crypto market crashing recently, it will be interesting to see how Robinhood manages to cope with all the changes. Also, it makes one wonder what will happens when things improve, and if Tenev has learned his lesson about employing too many people when the going gets good.

Airbnb reports that bookings are hitting record highs as travel returns

Are you worried that the economy is slowing down or about the high prices hitting households lately? Airbnb, a lodging website, has revealed that its bookings are higher than it ever was before, thanks to people being able to travel once again. However, that’s not the case in all countries, especially where severe lockdown restrictions are still a reality.

Airbnb DOWNLOAD

Between April and June this year, Airbnb bookings have reached 104 million orders. For the most part, the shift to remote working seems to be the biggest reason for long-night stays. While there has been a reduction in city travel in the past, that also appears to be recovering. This is only the case in places where lockdown restrictions have been lifted.

With China going into a stronger lockdown mode, Airbnb has to stop providing lodging in the country. The demand was too low, especially with everyone being forced to stay at home. In Europe and the U.S., it looks like travel is picking up again, which is why the company isn’t too concerned about the economy failing.

Airbnb

Since Airbnb started when the pandemic was at its highest, the team is glad to see travel becoming popular again. The weaker pound means fewer people in Europe countries reserving lodges, but it’s seeing more people from around the world travel to Euro locations.

Brian Chesky, the chief executive of Airbnb, addressed analysts in a conference call to supply these details. The company will now focus on increasing shares in businesses, hoping to boost its portfolio. We look forward to seeing its plans for the year ahead.

WhatsApp group admins will have the power to delete messages

Are you in a situation where you manage several WhatsApp groups and you constantly have to tell people not to share specific content? While some other apps give you more control, WhatsApp is currently not one of them. Well, it seems like the beta testing is set to include a feature where group admins can delete any messages they want.

WhatsApp DOWNLOAD

Group admins on Facebook, Telegram, and Discord channels will tell you how many times they’ve had to warn users about content and comments before deleting messages. It’s a feature that’s been around for a long time, just not for WhatsApp. According to WABetaInfo, group admins may be able to also do so on WhatsApp sometime in the future.

The testing shows how you long-press the message before selecting the delete option. That means group admins can remove the chat for everyone, making sure no one’s offended by what was posted. It will also stop people from self-promotions or advertising products when the channel description tells them not to.

WhatsApp

What group admins on WhatsApp do at the moment is issue warnings about behavior, after which they remove you from the channel if you don’t listen. While I still feel this is the way to go, the message is stuck there and still has an impact on the members. Being able to remove the post for everyone is a much better way forward.

Of course, it would help if members just listen when told not to do something. But, we already know that’s not everyone’s nature. Some people are just born to rebel. At least we know that WhatsApp won’t lower restrictions for governments and intends to keep your chats private.

TikTok may overtake Facebook in the influencer marketing arena

With so many rivals on social media platforms, it’s interesting to see how influencer marketing increases every year and how much is being spent for influencers to market products on their channels. From one of the latest financial reports, it seems that TikTok may overtake Facebook when it comes to paying content creators. However, it has a long way to go if it wants to match the potential of Instagram.

TikTok DOWNLOAD

The report hails from Insider Intelligence which performed a forecast on influencer marketing. Apparently, spending on this industry will rise to $4.14 billion per annum by the time we hit 2024. That’s a massive amount just so that content creators can create some branding for products. Yet, it seems to be working, and Instagram holds the highest amount at the moment.

TikTok may overtake Facebook in the influencer marketing arena

That shouldn’t come as a surprise, though. If you’ve spent enough time on Instagram and reached 1,000 followers, these companies see you as a potential Nano-influencer. Reach 5,000 followers, and you’re now a Micro-influencer. You’ll start seeing brands reach out to you with promotional products to wear or advertise on your channel.

Instagram certainly has the best platform for influencer marketing, but recently, we saw it try too hard to also include TikTok elements. Thankfully, the right celebrities cried out against it, so now the company is backpedaling. But with TikTok possibly rising above Facebook when it comes to influencers, Instagram probably has good reason to be concerned.

Best beginner characters in MultiVersus for new players

The fighting game smashes together characters from all over animation — but not all of them are the best beginner characters in MultiVersus. Though the game has familiar mechanics, everyone has to start somewhere, right?

Dive in with a little insider knowledge to see which character playstyles work best for you. Let’s break down the best characters in MultiVersus for beginners.

For the best beginner characters in MultiVersus, start with Shaggy

Cost: 1500 Gold or 700 Gleamium

The hapless Scooby Doo investigator really brings it on the battlefield. Categorized as a bruiser type, Shaggy excels at getting in your face and retreating quickly. You can put down lots of damage with his basic attack alone. In tandem with his “Zoinks!” ability, you’ll do even more damage and you can heal others by throwing them sandwiches.

If you want to get a feel for the game physics, the maps, and how the game handles overall, beginners should try Shaggy first. Unfortunately, Shaggy does not start out as an unlocked character.

image of Superman in MultiVersus

Learn to tank with Superman

Cost: 2000 Gold or 700 Gleamium

If you want to learn the basics of MultiVersus, Superman makes for a fantastic introductory character. The man of steel comes equipped with everything one needs to be a super tanky fighter. He can take many hits and still keep on coming.

Unlike characters like Wonder Woman, Superman offers more inherent versatility. He isn’t as impaired by cooldowns and his elemental abilities provide useful ranged options.

image of Bugs Bunny in MultiVersus

Bugs Bunny the Magician, see?

Cost: 2000 Gold or 700 Gleamium

The classic cartoon sass machine is one of the best mage-class options in MultiVersus. Typically, mage types tend to be less robust than other characters. But Bugs has a surprising amount of survivability making him ideal for anyone trying to learn the mage class.

Use “Bunny Burrow” to evade enemies if you feel in danger. That gives you time to regroup and reposition. This character is also fantastic for people who want to practice against real people instead of AI with less anxiety.

image of Finn in MultiVersus

Finn the human: one of the best beginner characters in MultiVersus

Cost: 2000 Gold or 700 Gleamium

Affable, good-natured Finn actually falls under the assassin class in MultiVersus. This makes him very susceptible to damage, but also able to deal explosive damage quickly. If you are the type to quickly ambush an enemy and then quickly flee after a couple of hits, Finn is the character for you.

Finn is great to learn basic assassin mechanics, but new players can get distracted by his coin collection passive ability. Every coin you collect grants you additional damage, but you shouldn’t go for a single coin if it means you will take lots of damage.

image of Velma in MultiVersus as one of the best beginner characters in MultiVersus

From super-sleuth to super support with Velma

Cost: 2000 Gold or 700 Gleamium

Playing a support class character in MultiVersus is a developing process. But Velma is a solid place to start to get the hang of how best to help your teammates. However, Velma can do damage herself.

Her mobility and speed come in handy when keeping apace with teammates. Players can also collect “evidence” in order to summon a police car in battle. As with other games such as League of Legends, support roles are focused on buffing, debuffing, and crowd control.

image of Jake in MultiVersus

Jake the dog teaches you timing

Cost: 2000 Gold or 700 Gleamium

Another Adventure Time character, Jake is deceptively simple despite seeming difficult to learn. He’s a bruiser with lots of active abilities and the power to transform. This freedom is what may take some new players time to adjust to, but Jake is one of the best characters for learning the ins and outs of MultiVersus.

Fall back on the basics of the fighting game then start to experiment. You’ll learn when to time abilities for maximum benefit and when to engage or disengage in combat.

image of Harley Quinn in MultiVersus

Get up close and personal with Harley Quinn

Cost: 2000 Gold or 700 Gleamium

The in-your-face psychiatrist turned villainess/occasional good guy is another assassin character in the game. What makes Harley one of the best characters for beginners in MultiVersus is her easy-to-pick-up skillset.

You can use her close-range attacks for damage but maintain distance while still doing damage with ranged abilities. The biggest learning curve lies in her “Confetti Debuff” ability as timing it can be a bit tricky.

image of Reindog in MultiVersus

Reindog: a different kind of support character

Cost: 2000 Gold or 700 Gleamium

Reindog is another support class character in MultiVersus and the only original character so far. His skill set is very accessible for new players in how straightforward it is. You can attach a tether to another character that damages enemies who touch it.

This makes Reindog a fantastic option to learn positioning in the game. He’s also an adorable hybrid of a reindeer, a dog, and some kind of teddy bear Pokémon.

image of Taz in MultiVersus

Taz: hard to balance, but easy to learn

Cost: 1500 Gold or 700 Gleamium

Taz’ skill set is so hard to balance, but it never stops being fun to play. Even if the game keeps changing around his damage numbers and other stats, he remains of the best characters for beginners in MultiVersus.

Another bruiser character, Taz has high mobility and can even transform his enemies into food for himself or teammates using a debuff. Just be careful not to fling yourself off the map with his spin attack accidentally.

image of MultiVersus characters

How do I get free characters in MultiVersus?

Unfortunately, it’s not easy to obtain characters in MultiVersus. There is a free-to-play character rotation every 2 weeks with just 4 characters available. If you want more variety or a specific character, you’ll have to pay the Gold or Gleamium cost.

Pinterest investments are looking perilous

The situation is not looking good for Pinterest stocks. The photo-sharing platform has reported missed earnings and zero user growth during the platform’s most recent quarter. As has become a trend among other tech companies, Pinterest attributes its poor performance to the pandemic, a decline in search engine traffic, TikTok’s rise, and broader macroeconomic uncertainty.

Pinterest DOWNLOAD

Pinterest isn’t alone, however. Both Meta and SnapChat underwhelmed predictions and projections in terms of stock price. Unfortunately, Pinterest’s Q2 results are well below Wall Street’s estimates which were at $667 million. In reality, the company reported revenue being up 9% yearly, having only reached $665 million. In the words of the Wall Street Journal, this is the lowest revenue growth in the last two years. Additionally, the company reported a net loss of $43.1 million and adjusted earnings of 11 cents per share, down from 18 cents.

Moreover, it warned investors that revenue growth for the third quarter would be in ‘mid single digits’. At the same time, analysts had previously predicted that the company would see revenue growth of around 12.7%.

The number of monthly active users remained flat at 433 million, down 5% from the previous quarter. Even so, it was one of the few rays of hope amid otherwise troubling news, since analysts had predicted a bigger drop to 431 million. According to Pinterest’s letter to shareholders, “work still needs to be done” to grow its users, particularly in mature markets such as the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

Pinterest popped 20 on earnings that weren’t as terrible as expected

TikTok represents a broader shift in the market to video as a lead-in to e-commerce transactions, while Pinterest is primarily an image-based bookmarking service.

‘Recommendation media’ also replaces traditional social networks with creator-filled feeds that are driven by algorithms, rather than posts from friends. In an attempt to navigate this change, Pinterest has offered video creation tools to creators. This is reflected in the fact that 10% of the time spent on the platform is now spent watching videos.

According to the company’s analysts, it expects operating expenses to increase in Q3 by a low double-digit percentage as a result of a mid-September to October launch of a new global branding campaign. In addition, the company plans to continue investing in native content and creator initiatives.

If this is your first exposure to the world of Pinterest, here’s a comprehensive guide on what it is and how it works.

The Discord Android app is no longer lagging behind iOS

Discord for Android has long been the insignificant, ugly step-sister of the utility’s mobile variants. Discord has, however, recently confirmed that this will no longer be the case. In a recent engagement, the company announced that it is rebuilding the Android app from the ground up to bring it in line with the iOS alternative.

Discord DOWNLOAD

The Discord Android app is being developed with React Native, a developer framework for creating apps that function equally across various platforms. Even though the official rebuilt app should be available sometime within the next few weeks, we’ve already seen a few new features ported to the current Android version of the app.

Another massive change hitting the Android app is how updates will be furnished. In previous versions of the Android utility, users would have to wait considerably longer for updates and new features to be delivered to the app.

Discord

These same features and updates would be included in the latest version of the iOS app, sometimes weeks before the Android variant. In the case of the newly rebuilt app, updates and new features will be furnished alongside those pushed to iOS devices. The company also expanded on this directly in a recent blog post.

‘React Native allows us to streamline and consolidate our processes, which helps our engineers work more efficiently and push out updates more frequently, especially now that the team won’t be spending as much time maintaining different codebases for different devices.’

It’ll be exciting to use Discord on Android soon and not feel like we’re getting the short end of the stick. Here’s another change happening within Discord: Apparently Discord is tidying up its dedicated voice channels.
