The Blood of Dawnwalker is out now: players find a secret ending after the prologue

Players have already found a secret ending in The Blood of Dawnwalker, the open-world action RPG that launched September 3, 2026, and the wild part is how early you can reach it. Once the game opens up, it’s basically right there.

Head to Coward’s Path at night instead of pushing forward with Coen’s story, and you can use his vampiric Planeshift and Shadowstep abilities to get across a broken bridge and leave Vale Sangora. Do that, and you trigger “A Hero They Deserve,” better known among players as the Coward’s Ending, then watch the credits roll without beating a single boss. Try the same route during the day, and it won’t work. That’s what makes this ending stand out: there’s no late-game grind, no punishing combat check, no post-credits requirement. You just need to understand how the game’s systems fit together.

You play as Coen, a human-vampire hybrid trying to save his family in a bleak 14th-century European world, and the game is built around choices that branch in sharp directions. There’s a 30-day clock hanging over everything, a fail-state ending called “Time Runs Out,” and quests that change depending on whether it’s day or night. Daytime tends to open up less violent paths. Night is when the powers you need for this route come online. If you’re into RPGs that actually let you abandon the main plot and see what happens, this is an easy one to recommend. Players are already hunting down all seven endings, including “The Turncoat,” “The Folk Hero,” “The Patricide,” “The Knyazmaker,” and the secret “Together Forever.”

The Blood of Dawnwalker comes from Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco, and it’s available on Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S following its September 3, 2026 release.

Blue Beetle could return in 2027: Xolo Maridueña may be back for *Man of Tomorrow*

Blue Beetle may be heading back to theaters in Man of Tomorrow on July 9, 2027, with Xolo Maridueña returning as Jaime Reyes for DC Studios’ new movie era. James Gunn, who co-chairs DC Studios, has already said Maridueña will stay in the DC Universe as a fresh version of the character, not a straight carryover from the DC Extended Universe. And since the planned Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow, is currently set for July 9, 2027, Jaime would end up as one of the reboot’s first big tentpoles.

That would put Jaime in a very short list of old DCEU holdovers, right there with Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller and John Cena’s Peacemaker. And this goes beyond continuity talk. Blue Beetle gave DC its first live-action Latino superhero lead, and trade reports have also pointed to an animated series that’s still in early development.

If you keep up with DC, this is one to watch. The 2023 film drew generally positive reviews, but it made about $130.8 million worldwide against a reported $104 million to $125 million budget. The Hollywood labor disputes got in the way, the cast had limited chances to promote it, and the uncertainty around the coming reboot didn’t help its run either. For now, Man of Tomorrow is expected in theaters on July 9, 2027.

A game inspired by art

Lost Museum: Echoes of Chromageist will put us in the shoes of Vince, a boy searching for his older brother who will suddenly find himself lost in the Lost Museum. A gallery that exists between dimensions, in a realm cut off from reality called the Lost Space. It houses famous paintings that give rise to beings known as Chromageists, beings born from the thoughts, emotions, and memories contained in the paintings. Their designs are based on famous works of art like the Mona Lisa, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, or Sunflowers.

With a point-and-click style, the game promises a classic experience that focuses heavily on narrative and detective work, emphasizing the areas where its writer excels most. With a release planned for Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, we’ll still have to wait until 2027 to play it. But we’ll do so eagerly, ready to dive into this unique title.

Tom Cruise is sure of it: the Warner and Paramount merger is going to mean a boom for cinema

There is no bigger controversy in Hollywood in 2026 than the merger between Warner Bros. and Paramount. Although it seemed done and dusted, a new trial has made it look like it can’t be finalized until well into 2027. And that will be a problem for David Ellison, who will have to pay $7 million a day starting on September 30 to Warner Bros.’ shareholders. Something he doesn’t want to do. And who has he called to avoid it? A major star: Tom Cruise.

Barely concealed conflicts of interest

According to Cruise, the merger of the two companies would be a blessing for the American film industry. At least, that’s what he said on The Pat MacAfee Show in some somewhat questionable remarks. Claiming that “I think it’s incredible. They’re going to put out 30 movies a year: to me it’s a community, not an industry. The people in those studios aren’t just people in the studios. They’re my family. I know we’re going to have those 30 movies. I want us to come together as a community to help make them. Paramount isn’t going to do it alone: it’s going to take the help of every artist to make them happen”.

That’s his proposal. Making movies nonstop, something that’s only possible through Paramount’s merger with Warner Bros. Going so far as to say that “if we do it right with those, 30 movies are going to turn into 40. Having that window and what it means… It’s not enough that I can make ‘Days of Thunder 2.’ I see a lot of talented people who I want to have the opportunity to make the movies they want”.

Is there any basis to what Cruise is saying? Not beyond the fact that it’s Ellison’s idea: merge both companies and make 30 movies a year. If it goes well. If it doesn’t go well, it would be reduced to 20 or fewer movies a year. Which would be a catastrophe for the film industry and would be the exact opposite of what Cruise is arguing for. But presumably this isn’t the moment to point out to Cruise’s boss what could happen if things go wrong.

This game about killing Nazis in the Second World War “isn’t political,” according to its developers

One of the most interesting games announced for 2026 is Nekome: Nazi Hunter, a game, literally, about killing Nazis. In it we play as Vano, a young Romani man who, in true Inglourious Basterds fashion, after seeing the Nazis kill his entire family decides to take revenge on them in the most direct way possible. That gives us a gameplay experience as intense as it is politically charged.

Political, but not much

Except that in an interview with the online outlet But Why Tho? its developers, Probably Monsters, denied that their game has any political element to it. According to Kay Willis, production lead on the game, “there’s something really interesting about the psychology behind cathartic games and things like that. That said, we’re not making a political game or anything”. They added that they don’t intend to make any kind of political statement with their game.

How you can make a game about killing Nazi soldiers with a young Romani man whose family has been murdered without talking about politics is beyond us, because it seems impossible —it’s always going to say something about what’s happening; it’s going to judge one side or the other and what they have or haven’t done during the game—, but it’s what its developers say. And while everyone should make up their own mind about this take on the game, there’s no doubt that many people will feel disappointed to learn that the developers of the Nazi-killing game don’t think anything in particular about the Nazis.

Gaming industry faces ‘Crash 2.0’: layoffs rise despite growth

Edge Magazine is calling 2026 the gaming industry’s “Crash 2.0,” a slump defined by layoffs, studio closures, and slower growth. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney puts it bluntly in the report: it’s the worst stretch the business has seen since the 1980s.

The numbers make the case. Edge says layoffs and closures ran right through 2022 to 2026, including 15,600 job cuts in 2024 and a projected 14,666 in 2026. A 2026 Game Developers Conference survey found that 33% of US developers and 28% of developers worldwide had been laid off over a two-year period. Revenue growth also cooled hard after the COVID-era surge, dropping from 13% in 2017-2021 to 1% in 2021-2023.

The pressure is especially visible in Western AAA. Edge’s report points to weak US and UK console sales in 2024 and the broader instability hitting major studios, all of it putting strain on that model even though the market still reached $322.6 billion in 2025 and continues to grow, just at a slower pace.

A lot of the momentum is moving elsewhere, especially to Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East. Edge reports that China and the US accounted for more than half of 2024 revenue, while more developers are turning to Indie Fund, UK Games Fund grants, Kickstarter, and new indie studios founded by AAA veterans who were laid off.

If you follow game development closely, this Edge Magazine report sounds worth your time. John Romero and Brenda Romero describe the moment as harsher than the 1980s, while Tim Willits points to easier development tools, mobile, and Fortnite as signs of an industry changing shape rather than simply falling apart. You can read it in Edge Magazine.

WMO issues its strongest El Niño warning yet: nearly 100% odds through February 2027

The World Meteorological Organization updated its El Niño outlook today, and the message was blunt: nearly a 100% chance the current El Niño event will last through February 2027. The WMO says it hasn’t issued an El Niño/La Niña update this unequivocal before, and model guidance from both the WMO and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration points to a very strong event, one that could rank among the strongest seen since the 19th century. On a planet already heated by human activity, El Niño’s usual 0.1 to 0.2°C bump, in the WMO’s estimate, could be enough to push global temperatures toward record highs and even briefly tip past 1.5°C.

The WMO also warns that the fallout may be messy and uneven: heavier rain in some places, deeper drought in others, and extremes that are harder to pin down ahead of time. That brings a string of related risks with it, including crop stress and crop losses, power cuts, water shortages, wildfires, disease outbreaks, and broader humanitarian emergencies.

Researchers cited by experts say El Niño events are now almost 40% stronger than they were in the pre-industrial era. Add in a positive Indian Ocean Dipole and unusually warm waters in the equatorial Atlantic, and the picture gets sharper. Experts say those factors could worsen drought, intensify rainfall swings, and raise fire danger, especially across Southeast Asia.

If you track climate, food security, or public health, this is the forecast to pay attention to. UN agencies warn that 50 million additional people could face acute hunger. UNICEF says 162 million children in Eastern and Southern Africa are exposed. Experts also say the weak spots in preparedness haven’t gone away, particularly around funding, water management, protections for smallholder farmers and Indigenous communities, and national planning.

You can read the latest WMO update alongside supporting evidence from NOAA, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and national weather agencies.

Apple’s iOS 27 may let two iPhones share one number: it could switch to the one you unlock

Current reports suggest Apple is getting iPhone Handoff ready for iOS 27, a feature that would let one phone number work across two iPhones.

The setup, based on those reports, would live under Settings > Cellular. You’d pick a primary iPhone and a companion iPhone, keep the main eSIM on the first device, and use a companion eSIM on the second instead of paying for a duplicate mobile plan.

The interesting part is the switching. Reports say your number could move automatically to whichever iPhone you unlock, with a Dynamic Island alert showing that the handoff happened. Find My and shared location would also update to the phone you’re actually carrying, whether that’s for work, travel, the gym, or just a night out.

If you carry two iPhones, this looks like one to try when it shows up. That said, carrier support seems to be a big factor, and the rollout may start with networks such as T-Mobile in the US and Deutsche Telekom in Germany. It’s also still mostly based on a WWDC 2026 mention and an Xcode 27 Device Hub simulation, so questions around reliability, privacy, security, and a broader rollout are still open. Right now, reports point to an iOS 27 release for two iPhones signed into the same Apple ID on supported carriers.
