What ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ tells us about Marvel Phase 4

Far From Home opened up a huge can of worms for the MCU that we can’t wait to dive into!

Peter Parker

Avengers: Endgame” was a climactic wrap-up of the story that began 10 (almost 11!) years ago with director Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark forging the first Iron Man suit in a cave with a box of scraps. Fans were dubious, however, to hear that Endgame was not the end of Phase 3, but that that honor instead belonged to “Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The story is about the young webslinger-turned-Avenger struggling to fill the shoes (or in this case the glasses) that Iron Man left him. The film takes place in the shell-shocked aftermath of “Avengers: Endgame,” and its falling action does a lot to prepare us for the wild ride that’s awaiting us in Phase 4. The clues are in the details:

(SPOILERS BELOW!)

1. Even in death, he’s still the hero

Audiences felt the heavy loss of Iron Man at the closing of “Endgame” (we love you 3000, RDJ!), and the kid standing at ground zero of the power vacuum is the young webslinger from Queens played by the energetic and engaging Tom Holland. For many of us, the MCU looked to be a darker, sadder place without Iron Man, and “Far From Home” was a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down. While Tony Stark may have died, his legacy is ever-present in the MCU. He’s a topic of bittersweet conversation among his friends, a hated name between his rivals, and his image is on graffiti at every other street corner.

Iron Man’s presence is still felt in the MCU

Moreover, Tony’s awesome tech is still all over the place. E.D.I.T.H (even dead I’m still the hero) is the Jarvis-like AI whose new home is the pair of glasses Tony Stark bequeathed to Peter Parker. From the looks of it – for better or for worse – Stark Tech isn’t going anywhere, either.

2. True love

‘Spidey and MJ’ has been a thing for practically as long as the comic series has been written. Unless you’re a fan of Gwen Stacy, MJ’s always been the gal for Peter. Thankfully the MCU has given Mary Jane (played by Zendaya) a much-appreciated revamp, making her less of a damsel in distress and more of a quirky, eccentric, fun character. She plays well off the quippy and often awkward Peter Parker.

"Spider-Man: Far From Home" MJ Spidey
MJ is super cool

Whether MJ will make appearances outside of Spider-Man’s solo films is unclear, but we’re excited to see more of what the studio has planned for her!

3. Spider-Man’s a menace!

One of the cornerstones of Spider-Man is that he’s the quintessential misunderstood superhero. No good deed goes unpunished, and there’s no one out to get our webslinger like newspaper tycoon, J. Jonah Jameson. In the wake of the destruction Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) left behind, JJ finds the perfect angle to frame Spider-Man and set the stage for a city that not only feeds off hate mail for the wall-crawler but also knows his secret identity.

J.K. Simmons J Jonah Jameson
“I want him strung up by his webs! I want Spider-Mannnnn!”

The best part is a surprise return to the iconic role of fan-favorite J.K. Simmons! That’s a good thing because no one shouts “Spider-Man!!!” quite like the guy.

4. The real sting

The funny thing about J. Jonah Jameson is that he is also the guy who initially hired Mac Gargan to become the Scorpion, one of Spider-Man’s most classic villains. Spidey’s got quite the impressive rogues gallery, but whether it’s from Sam Raimi, Sony, or Marvel Studios we’ve already seen some of the biggest names in it (Venom, Sandman, Doc Ock, Green Goblin (twice), Lizard, Vulture, and Electro). Scorpion’s another big one, and they already set up for it back in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" post-credits Scorpion
He’s on-screen for under a minute and he’s already terrifying

With Jameson introduced to the mix and the post-credits from Homecoming already hinting at the character, we think Scorpion’s likely to make an appearance pretty soon.

5. “People will believe anything”

‘Multiverse’ is a dangerous word to throw around when Marvel is involved, and the studio knows it. The comics have been playing in that ballpark for years and it’s a wonderfully confusing mess that can be daunting and inaccessible to anyone trying to catch up. The MCU has taken a different approach to the phrase and it’s opened up a can of worms that today’s audience has been awaiting. Turns out, that’s the exact thing Mysterio was hoping to hear.

"Spider-Man: Far From Home" Mysterio fight mirror
Which end is up? What is real?! Is anything real??

Mysterio’s a villain that likely wouldn’t have been a threat to the MCU back in 2008. The world back then wasn’t ready to believe in extra-terrestrial shapeshifters, superhero civil wars, gods from another realm, or sorcerers who could stroll through different realms and return in time for tea. Mysterio preyed upon a wounded world, one in which “people will believe anything,” as he said with his dying breath.

We’ve got a sneaking suspicion that this could be the tagline for Phase 4, with madcap adventures like a Doctor Strange sequel, “Thor: Love and Thunder,” Blade, and the Fantastic 4 soon to come. Heck, the Doctor Stranger sequel is even called “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” And that’s without even getting into Marvel’s biggest game of smoke and mirrors …

6. Skrull Invasion

If you loved the baffling illusions and misdirection of “Far From Home,” you ain’t seen nothing yet. If you stayed for the post-credits (which every loyal Marvel fan should have learned to do by now) then you were treated to a bizarre scene. Nick Fury and Maria Hill were not who they appeared to be. Instead, Fury was Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), the Skrull we were first introduced to in “Captain Marvel.”

"Captain Marvel" Skrulls Talos beach
The Skrulls look like they might be the MCU’s take on Fury’s Life-Model Decoys

Talos was keeping an eye on things for Fury back on Earth, while Fury was elsewhere (we’ll get to that in a second)! Contrary to other Marvel media, the Skrulls ended up being the good guys in “Captain Marvel,” so whether the MCU plans to eventually tackle the Skrull Invasion is unclear, but the option is there. It’s also worth pointing out that a lot could have happened since the Skrulls’ introduction back in the ’90s, and alliances can shift …

7. SWORD

If there’s one guy who’s had just about enough of shifting alliances, back-stabbing, murder attempts, and betrayal it’s Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). While Talos was covering for him back planetside, the former Director of the now-defunct SHIELD really was ‘far from home.’ Specifically, he was on a space station with presumably covert intentions. ‘How can a space station be covert?’ you might wonder. Well, Fury thought the same thing before he met the Kree in “Captain Marvel.” It wouldn’t surprise us if he’s taken his paramount paranoia and personal projects to the skies.

SWORD Marvel Comics
SWORD (as opposed to SHIELD) reflects Fury’s more aggressive stance on Earth’s security

In the comics SWORD is the Sentient World Observation and Response Department that deals with the same threats on a galactic level that SHIELD used to deal with on the ground. Now that we’ve been introduced to the Guardians of the Galaxy, Thanos, Captain Marvel, the Kree, the Skrulls, and all manner of other dimensions (thanks to Doctor Strange) it makes sense that Fury wants to take security to the next level.

SWORD could also have some pretty exciting tie-ins to several upcoming items on the Phase 4 docket, particularly the “Captain Marvel” sequel, “Guardians of the Galaxy 3,” “What If,” and, perhaps most exciting of all, a great way to introduce the space-faring Fantastic Four.

Wrapping up

Let us know in the comments below what you think the future holds for Marvel’s Phase 4, and we’ll keep you posted as more information is made available. We’ll see you in theaters!

Who is Mysterio in Spider-Man?

Before you see “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” get to know the man behind the fishbowl!

Mysterio

Don’t let his foreboding presence fool you; most of what makes Mysterio threatening is just smoke and mirrors.

The new MCU film “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is giving fans their first on-screen appearance of Mysterio, a staple villain in the world of Spider-Man

Despite “Spider-Man: Far From Home” being Mysterio’s first major on-screen appearance, he has had a rich history in many incarnations of Spider-Man.

Mysterio’s origin

Mysterio first appearance
Mysterio’s first appearance

Mysterio made his first appearance in 1964 in the comic “The Amazing Spider-Man” Issue #13. He was made by legendary creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

In the comics, Mysterio’s alter-ego is a man named Quentin Beck. Beck is a stuntman and special effects wizard. He had dreams of being a star, but he met with failure at every turn.

Quentin Beck

Eventually, he came up with a new idea: becoming a superhero. However, Spider-Man was hogging the limelight. As a result, Beck came up with a plan to frame Spider-Man for crimes, and make himself out to be the hero under his new persona, Mysterio. Mysterio claims to be from an alien world, and it is his mission to save the planet (or destroy the plane,t depending on what adaptation you’re checking out).

Spider-Man eventually proved his innocence and defeated Mysterio (as Spidey often does) but that wasn’t the last time we saw him…

Personality

Mysterio is pretty much a total loser.

Daredevil Mysterio

Mysterio is never really taken all that seriously in any adaptation. Sure, he causes some mischief and definitely gets on Spidey’s nerves, but he is simply not much of a threat.

Compared to villains like Green Goblin or Venom, Mysterio is a walk in the park. He has a cool costume, but he often lacks the power or evil genius to back it up.

Most of his plans have been done previously by more qualified bad guys. He basically brings the same bag of tricks to each fight and gets his butt kicked each time.

Mysterio’s motivations constantly lie in him trying to make a positive name for himself. He feels like his work has gone unappreciated and that he has been cheated out of fame, fortune, and recognition.

Mysterio’s powers and abilities

Mysterio has no superpowers. All of his tricks stem from his shrewd mind and homemade gadgets. He’s basically a much less cool Iron Man. His gadgets come from his work in special effects and the movie industry. He often uses smoke and gases to create illusions, disappear, and attack the human mind.

To be completely fair, Mysterio is one of the only people to stop Spider-Man’s Spidey Sense in its tracks.

The Sinister Six

Eventually, Mysterio becomes one of the founding members of the original Sinister Six. The Sinister Six was a band of villains in the Spider-Verse who made it their goal to defeat Spider-Man. Along with Mysterio, other members included Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Sandman, and Vulture.

However, in their first battle with Spidey, their hubris was their demise. Rather than working together to take him down, the Sinister Six refused to work as a team and instead decided to fight Spider-Man one by one.

Sinister Six
Should’ve listened to Vulture, idiots.                      Source: “The Amazing Spider-Man Annual” Issue #1

Spidey whooped all of them one-by-one while mocking them for not attacking him all at once. Mysterio went on to reappear with the Sinister Six in other comics with pretty much the same results each time.

Plan to defeat Daredevil, and his suicide

Mysterio death

After being diagnosed with both lung cancer and an inoperable brain tumor, Mysterio decides that he wants to go out with a swan song. Unfortunately, he discovers that Spider-Man is merely a clone of his real self, so he turns his attention toward Daredevil in the series “Daredevil: Guardian Devil.”

To give him credit, Mysterio actually accomplishes some messed up stuff in this series. He artificially inseminates a 15-year-old girl without her knowing, and works to convince Daredevil that the baby is the antichrist. From there, he fakes an HIV diagnosis for Daredevil’s love-interest Karen Page, blaming it on the antichrist. After that, he drugs Daredevil’s friend Foggy Nelson and frames him for murder. Eventually, Bullseye kills Page at Mysterio’s order.

The rapid downward spiral in Daredevil’s life makes him question his life, morals, and even his Catholic faith.

However, things don’t go well for Mysterio in the end…

Daredevil
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Mysterio back together again.

In the end, Mysterio tries to get Daredevil to fully succumb to his inner darkness by killing Mysterio in cold blood. However, Daredevil doesn’t kill him. He beats the living crap out of him but doesn’t kill him.

Instead, Daredevil mocks Mysterio, stating how Kingpin had tried to break him before, and it didn’t work. He also mentions how Mysterio tried a similar plan before to J. Jonah Jameson, and that didn’t work either. After coming to the conclusion that his life is a joke, Mysterio turns a gun on himself and commits suicide.

Other people who became Mysterio

Although Beck is the quintessential Mysterio in almost every adaptation, a few others have donned the fishbowl helmet.

Danny Berkhart

Danny Berkhart Mysterio

After the Quentin Beck’s supposed death in the original Spider-Man comics, a man named Danny Berkhart approached J. Jonah Jameson with a proposal.

Berkhart had the idea to fool Spider-Man into thinking that he was the ghost of Mysterio. He even had the old Mysterio’s gadgets. A thrilled Jameson promptly paid him to do so. As you might have guessed, Spidey figures it out and has Berkhart arrested. Jameson gets Berkhart a lawyer as long as he promises not to mention his name to the police.

Francis Klum

Klum Myterio
Note: He does this to the puny teenager who’s having a conversation with Black Cat, but doesn’t do this to the slew of other villains who actually threatened his loved ones.  Source: “Spide-Man/Black Cat: The Evil Men That Do”

Francis Klum is probably the weakest iteration of Mysterio, which explains why we haven’t seen him since the early 2000s.

Klum is a mutant who has been abused throughout his entire life. He has teleportation abilities that have caused him more harm than good in his life. After confiding with Black Cat, Spider-Man’s foe-turned-love-interest, Spidey mistakes the meeting as a threat to Black Cat’s life. He proceeds to beat the snot out of Klum and threatens his life. Klum manages to get away, but only after suffering major injuries.

Klum contacts Kingpin, who gives him the late Mysterio’s old costume. Klum gets the idea to attack Spider-Man while in costume to make Spidey think that he is merely fighting Mysterio. However, Klum would then use his teleportation powers to get the upper hand, and then kill Spider-Man.

Klum MysterioDoes his plan work?

Nope! Through a series of weird events, Beck actually reappears after somehow surviving shooting himself in “Daredevil: Guardian Devil.” With two Mysterios running amuck, Spider-Man is prepared for anything and has his guard up. Klum proceeds to not even get a few licks in as Miss Arrow stabs him before he can do anything.

The Mysterio we almost got in ‘Spider-Man 4’

Bruce Campbell Mysterio

As you well know, the original Spider-Man movie trilogy was made by the ever-so-talented Sam Raimi. In all three films, Raimi had Bruce Campbell, his good friend from the “Evil Dead” films, make a small cameo appearance.

Although the film never saw the light of day, Campbell was supposed to have a much bigger part in “Spider-Man 4.”

Bruce Campbell Mysterio

What you are looking at above is a piece of art from the official “Spider-Man 4” storyboard. This story was supposed to begin with Spider-Man walking Mysterio into the police station. After the police removed his fishbowl helmet, it was to be revealed that Bruce Campbell was playing Mysterio.

Fans have speculated for years that during the course of the three Raimi Spider-Man films, Campbell had been playing Mysterio the entire time. Furthermore, fans guessed that Mysterio was watching Peter Parker, and was waiting for his moment to strike. Although this has never been confirmed by Raimi, this would have made for Campbell’s funniest cameo yet in the series.

As funny as this would’ve been, we think it would be better to have Campbell’s legendary character Ash make an appearance with the Avengers.

Jake Gyllenhaal in “Spider-Man: Far From Home”

From what we have seen in the trailers, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio looks similar to the classic Mysterio.

Rather than saying he is from a different planet, this Mysterio is claiming to be from an alternate universe.

Yeah, sure.

As cool as a live-action Spider-Verse would be, we’re guessing that Beck is once again full of it. It’s in his character to be a liar who uses his silver-tongue to come off as cooler than he actually is. However, we will just have to see once the movie is released.

How ‘Spider-Man 2’ presented the perfect protagonist

Here’s how 2004’s Spider-Man film surpassed other superhero films.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 15 years since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. We’ve since had Sony and Andrew Garfield take a crack at it with two “Amazing Spider-Man” films, and now Tom Holland is playing the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’re just weeks away from “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” the final chapter of Marvel’s Phase Three.

While visual effects have come a long way since “Spider-Man 2,” good storytelling has no expiration date. The heart of a superhero story is in creating a good protagonist, and YouTuber Filmento makes a great case for how “Spider-Man 2” did just that. Check out his analysis:

Do you agree with his points? Let us know in the comments below whether you think the MCU’s take on Spider-Man hit home in the same way. Stay tuned, and we’ll see you in theaters on July 1!

‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ trailer teases multi-verse

Does this trailer mean we are getting to see more of the Spider-Verse? Let’s talk about that.

SPOILERS BELOW!

Spider-Man

As Tom Holland says at the beginning of the trailer, if you haven’t seen “Endgame” yet, stop right now. There are spoilers ahead!

After the hype train that was “Avengers: Endgame,” we are ready to hop aboard the next one with “Spider-Man: Far From Home:”

In the “Endgame” aftermath, Peter Parker needs to learn how to live in a world without Iron Man. While fighting crime across the Big Apple, Spider-Man decides to take a vacation with his friends. Around this time, Nick Fury is trying to get ahold of him, but Spidey ignores his calls.

Spider-Man Iron Man

After the events of “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Endgame,” Peter has suffered great losses, including his own life, until being snapped back to reality (oh, there goes gravity). We may be seeing a Spider-Man who understands the consequences of being a superhero, so he may want to live life as a normal teenager for a while.

The trailer also gives us another look at Jake Gyllenhaal playing Quentin Beck/Mysterio. Beck appears to be working with Nick Fury on the side of good. He also claims to be from an alternate universe and got there after Thanos snapped his fingers. Fury wants Mysterio and Spider-Man to team up to take down threats that slipped in from alternate universes.

Mysterio

In the comics, Quentin Beck lies about being an alien from another world, so this multi-verse talk might be hot air. Our guess is that Beck is full of it, and the monsters they are facing are under Beck’s control. With Iron Man out of the picture, Beck might be trying to take the role of Earth’s mightiest hero. However, if Beck isn’t lying, then we might get introduced to a live-action Spider-Verse.

Since the trailer confirmed that the movie takes place after the events of Endgame, we now know for certain that Ned, Flash, and MJ all also died from the first snap, and were brought back by the second.

Spider-Man MJ

Peter and MJ look like they’re headed for romance in this film, but it will be taking a backseat to the rest of the story. MJ also reveals in the trailer that she knows that Peter is Spider-Man, so now, basically everyone who knows Peter also knows his secret identity.

We’re excited for “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” and we luckily don’t have to wait too long. The movie is set to release on July 2 of this year, and we can’t wait to see it. “Endgame” was satisfying but left us wanting more. Thankfully, Spider-Man is on the way.

The comic book origins of the 4 coolest costumes in Spider-Man PS4

Where did these 4 Spidey suits come from? Here’s the comic book backstory.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man for PS4 has been a massive success, and for good reason. The game was clearly made by and for Spider-Man fans, and Insomniac went above and beyond in representing the beloved character’s decades of history. One of the coolest ways Insomniac pays homage to the wall-crawler is through the unlockable alternate costumes. Below we’ll show you some of the coolest ones you can unlock and talk about the comics that they came from.

The comic book origins of the coolest costumes in Spider-Man PS4

Spider-Man 2099

Spider-Man 2099 is the main star of his eponymous book in the Marvel 2099 comic line. Set in a dystopian cyberpunk future where most Marvel heroes are long gone, Spider-Man 2099 is the alter ego of Miguel O’Hara, a scientist who works for the evil megacorporation Alchemex. Miguel is a self-absorbed, cocky womanizer – the total opposite of Peter Parker.

After his employer tricks him into becoming addicted to the drug Rapture, Miguel attempts to experiment on himself to rid himself of the drug. However, a coworker sabotages the experiment, granting Miguel 50% spider DNA and giving him spider powers. Alchemex hunts down Miguel, who dons a bodysuit and Day of the Dead mask to evade them. (Miguel is the first Latino Spider-Man.)

While early in his costumed career, Miguel focuses on escaping Alchemex and finding a cure for himself. But he slowly becomes more aware of the exploitation and oppression the people around him suffer. Inspired to turn his life around for the better, he publically proclaims himself to be the new Spider-Man, enemy of all megacorporations and champion of the people. Miguel proves himself to be one of the future’s greatest heroes, even eventually becoming worthy enough to wield Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.

Miguel’s powers are similar to the original Spider-Man’s, though there are some sharp differences. For example, Miguel does not possess a spider-sense, but he does have highly enhanced senses of vision and hearing. He is able to see in the dark and “zoom” his vision in. While Peter Parker was able to cling to any surface with any part of his body, Miguel is only able to cling using talons on his hands and feet. These talons can also be used offensively, being strong enough to tear through flesh. In addition to talons, Miguel also has razor sharp poisonous fangs.

In current Marvel Comics continuity, Miguel is trapped in the present day. He frequently teams up with Peter Parker.

Spider-Man Noir

Spider-Man Noir debuted in 2009’s Marvel Noir comic storyline. Marvel Noir takes place during the Great Depression and features darker and grittier versions of their classic heroes. Spider-Man Noir is no exception.

In this universe, Peter Parker is mentored by famed reporter Ben Ulrich. Ben, under the alias of the Spider, uses his contacts in the criminal underworld to get information on the Goblin, the terrifying alter ego of Norman Osborn that controls all the crime in New York City. After sneaking into a warehouse full of the Goblin’s henchmen, he sees them unload a spider statue. The statue breaks open, freeing swarms of spiders, one of which bites Peter, causing him to dream of a spider-like god. When he wakes up, Peter realizes he has spider powers. Peter dons his uncle’s airman suit to become the brutal vigilante known as Spider-Man, stopping at nothing to bring down the Goblin.

One of the main differences between the main Spider-Man and Spider-Man Noir is that Noir is perfectly willing to kill his enemies. He frequently uses a revolver and a Tommy gun in his war against crime. Unlike the main Spidey, Noir doesn’t use web-shooters. Instead, his powers gave him organic webbing. Noir uses intimidation and his large number of underworld contacts in order to get closer to the Goblin.

Spider-Man Noir will appear in the upcoming animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He will be played by Nicolas Cage.

Scarlet Spider

Scarlet Spider is the alias used by Peter Parker clone Ben Reilly, star of the universally panned Clone Saga storyline from the 90s. The story is convoluted and filled with comic book nonsense, but we will do our best to briefly summarize it here:

After fighting the villain Jackal, who uses clones to fight Spider-Man, Peter wakes up in a room with an identical clone also in a Spider-Man suit, both thinking the other is an imposter. The two Spider-Men fight, but eventually team up to rescue Gwen Stacy from the Jackal. The clone seemingly dies in an explosion while trying to rescue Gwen. A disturbed Peter drops the clone’s body in a smokestack to get rid of it, but the clone survives and escapes. After following Peter and taking a look into his life, the clone (still thinking that he is the original Peter), adopts the name Ben Reilly, named after Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Ben becomes the Scarlet Spider, creating his own hoodie-like costume and fighting crime. He also constantly evades Kaine, another clone of Peter with murderous tendencies.

The character was “revealed” to be the original Peter Parker. After massive fan outcry, Ben was killed off in a fight with the newly resurrected Green Goblin. His death inspires Peter (who ACTUALLY was the original all along) to retake his mantle of Spider-Man. Ben was recently resurrected in the “Dead No More: Clone Conspiracy” storyline. In this, he goes insane and becomes the new Jackal until he is defeated by Spider-Man. After his loss, Ben flees to Las Vegas in order to rediscover what it means to be a hero.

Got all that? No? Oh well, at least his costume is awesome.

Spider-Punk

During the crossover event Spider-Verse, in which Spider-Men from different realities team up to fight the villain Morlun, a reality is shown that features a never-before-seen Spider-Man. This hero is Spider-Punk, a vigilante who fights against the oppressive President Osborn using his spider powers and the power of rock and roll.

In his series, Spider-Punk becomes the symbol and leader of a punk youth movement that fights against the government and its drones. In true punk style, the comic is stylish, loud, and unsubtle. This incarnation of the hero is Hobie Brown. In the mainstream Marvel Universe, he’s a young African-American inventor who is one of Spider-Man’s oldest allies. Spider-Punk hates being referred to as such, instead preferring to be called Spider-Man. Later on, he fights against time-traveling supervillain Kaine the Conqueror, who has become a CEO that sells Spider-Punk’s image. Spider-Punk fights him to take his image back as a symbol for revolution and freedom instead of a cheap, catchphrase-spouting mascot.

Top 10 Spider-Man games

Spider-Man has been one of the most beloved Marvel characters for many decades now, ever since we saw him spin his first web in comic books. It was a delight when we saw him appear in movies, but the real joy was roleplaying as him in video games.

With the latest movie fresh on the big screen, we feel it’s only appropriate to list our top 10 Spider-man games on PC, Android, and iPhone.

Spider-Man Ultimate Power (Android)

Side-scrolling action platform games are still incredibly popular on smartphones, so you’ll enjoy activating your web-slinging abilities in Spider-Man Ultimate Power. The story mode is linear, with you running through various levels to stop the villains. The controls are easy to master, and you’ll unlock some power-ups along the way.

There are also different suits to claim as rewards, which you can view in the gallery. The visuals may not be superb, but it’s reminiscent of the comic books from which Spider-Man hails. To unlock more features, you’ll need to earn coins and gems in each stage.

Spider-man (Windows)

Here’s a Windows title that goes back as far as the year 2000. The classic Spider-man game for PC fits in the action-adventure genre and was one of the first in the hero’s list of games to enter the 3D realm. While the graphics are blocky compared to most of today’s titles, it was still one of the best web-slinging games to play.

You’ll see familiar villains from the comics and movies, and your mission remains to stop them from achieving their evil goals. Each level presents some tactics you need to use to overcome them, especially the boss battles. The main actions are jump, web-swing, and fight, but you can use some of Spidey’s abilities that you unlock.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Windows)

Launched in 2014, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 brought awe and wonder to gamers with its impressive gameplay and graphics. It followed hot on the heels of the movie with the same name, presenting a familiar storyline with the same villains. However, the open-world nature of the game allowed players to take on some side missions and explore locations freely.

By completing missions, you received tokens or credits for unlocking powers and special moves. If you arrived at boss battles too soon, there was always the chance that Spidey wasn’t strong enough to take them on, which meant grinding side missions until you were ready. Still, it’s a wonderful Spider-Man game for PC that we’ll gladly play again.

Spider-Man 3

Yet another game based on the movie, Spider-Man 3 is from the Tobey Maguire universe. It also features an open-world action theme, and you’ll enjoy putting on the Venom suit for more power. The same primary villains are the bosses, namely Venom on Eddie Brock and Sandman.

However, there’s a creative take with some of the other villains in the Spider-Man game that we don’t see in the movie. For instance, you’ll hunt down the Lizard while meeting Kraven the Hunter. All of these additions help you become stronger and unlock new abilities in preparation for the final battle.

Spider-Man: Friend or Foe (Windows)

With a different spin on the game mechanics, Spider-Man: Friend or Foe is a side-scrolling fighting arcade game where you beat up as many enemies as you can per level. You’ll cross streets, rooftops, and other terrains in your mission, but your goal is simply to go from one side of the stage to the other while eliminating your foes.

One element that’s similar to many Lego superhero and villain games is that you unlock the main villain you defeat. For instance, Venom or Doc Oc can become allies as soon as you defeat them. A second player can join you at any time if they want to partake in the head-bashing hilarity.

The Amazing Spider-Man (Android)

Returning to the Andrew Garfield universe, The Amazing Spider-Man is a delightful game based on his first Spidey movie, this time for Android devices. It presented outstanding graphics for mobile phones during that time, while the action gameplay was incredible. As we’ve become used to by this time, you swing around in an open world taking care of baddies while working up to the main boss.

However, you’ll be surprised to learn that the story actually happens after the movie’s plot. With Gwen Stacy at your side, you’ll face the sinister Alistair Smythe, who was a popular villain in the comics. You’ll love when your spider-sense warns you of danger, and there are some skills to unlock along the way. It’s certainly still one of the top Spider-Man games for Android still around.

Spider Web of Shadows Fight (Android)

Despite a challenging name to say out loud without sounding ridiculous, Spider Web of Shadows Fight was an addictive Android game with action platform features. It’s based on the same title from the console version, but only as far as the plot and some choices are concerned. You’ll meet some of the mainstay villains again, such as Venom.

Once you unlock the symbiote suit, you can switch between red and blue or black. You’ll also meet Agent Fury, who provides you with the details of the alien attack on New York. While fighting and jumping are among the main actions, you can also crawl along walls and web-swing, of course.

Spider-Man: Total Mayhem (iPhone)

While being a mobile game, Spider-Man: Total Mayhem actually pulls off the action in a 3D environment quite well. The graphics are slightly outdated now with blocky characters, but it delivers just as much fun as when it launched in 2010. You’ll once again face off against goons in the street as a test of your prowess, with simple controls on the screen.

The villains in this Spider-Man game for iPhone are a mix from various movies, with more of a focus on the comics. Most of the Sinister Six are around, such as Goblin, Doc Oc, Electro, and Sandman. The music is superb, getting your adrenaline rushing as you take on the bad guys.

Spider-Man Unlimited (iPhone)

Here’s a Spider-Man game with a different take on gameplay. Spider-Man Unlimited features linear running mechanics where you’ll need to jump and perform actions according to the items you come across. Objects will fall in your way or attempt to stop you while you work out which is the best course of action.

You’ll love the cartoon graphics that are similar to the comics. You’ll earn in-game currency tokens to use when you die or unlock items. As you progress through the Spidey game, you’ll discover other versions of our hero with new abilities you can use against the bosses.

Spider-Man: Far From Home (iPhone)

If you’re a die-hard Spidey fan, you’ll love the Spider-Man: Far From Home app. While there aren’t many game elements, it definitely goes on our list for you to try out. There are augmented reality features where you may come across Mysterio or Spider-Man from the movie with the same name.

One of the functions lets you take a selfie with Spidey or Peter Parker, depending on your preference. You can also hack his phone and see his text messages, photos, and voicemails with real voice-acting.

A web-swinging adventure for Spidey fans

Spider-Man has come a long way from when Stan Lee first created him in comic books. He’s still regarded as one of the most powerful and popular superheroes of all time, and the villains, characters, and stories will live with us for all time. Is there a Spider-Man game you love that you feel should be on this list? Let us know.

The film’s costume designer has revealed that Spider-Man will sport a new suit in the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” sequel.

Spidey will get a new look in the next installment of his adventures, coming to theaters on July 10, 2019. In an interview with IndiaWest, Louise Frogley, costume designer for the first movie as well as “Iron Man 3” and “Ant-Man & The Wasp,” said: “I am not actually working on that film, but the costumes will have very big changes because, in the film, Spider-Man becomes more like a man and not a teenager.”
