Tired of Vampire Survivors? Here are the 6 survivor-likes you shouldn't miss

The developers of Vampire Survivors have released a new game, Vampire Crawlers, which is a mix of dungeon crawler and deckbuilder. If you think all those words are strange and you’ve never heard them before, and you just want more Vampire Survivors, but in a different way, that’s fine: we can cover you. That’s what we’re here for. To tell you about six other games that are like Vampire Survivors, but with some changes to the formula, so they feel fresh and interesting. Let’s not delay. Let’s manage those skills, even if it hurts your wallet.

Temtem: Swarm

Vampire Survivors with MOBA elements, allowing you to play with up to three friends and with a much cuter aesthetic. That is what Temtem: Swarm brings to the formula. With the same frantic action that characterizes survivorlikes, but with enough personality of its own to captivate many people even more than the original, it is one of those games that has flown under the radar of most people, but it shouldn’t. Because Vampire Survivors may be the original, but Temtem: Swarm has managed to carve out its own niche.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Speaking of the original, it is undeniable that Vampire Survivors owes a lot of its gameplay to The Binding of Isaac. Although this is a roguelite inspired by The Legend of Zelda where you will have to decide when to shoot, at least most of the time, and where dungeon exploration is very important, this is one of those games that are already absolute cult classics and can offer you what Vampire Survivors cannot: the next level of difficulty and density. Because if you think Vampire Survivors is packed with secrets and strategies, wait until you discover everything that The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth has behind it.

Megabonk

One of the big sensations of last year, which introduced two key elements to the concept of Vampire Survivor: being 3D and having memes. For many people, being 3D actually made it worse. It made positioning irrelevant and exhausted the formula much faster. The memes were pretty much the same. After the initial fun, they lost their shine very quickly. Does that mean there aren’t people out there who have dedicated hundreds or thousands of hours to it? Of course not. And if the idea of being able to jump over enemies seems appealing to you and you still laugh at the wojak, the truth is: it’s hard to go wrong with Megabonk.

Vita Shell

What if Vampire Survivors were a PS1 mecha game? It would have gigantic sprites, the UI would be incredible, and movement would be extremely important, even more than in the original. This is demonstrated by Vita Shell, one of the most original and interesting derivatives of the Vampire Survivors formula that puts us in control of a mecha to survive for 20 waves. Something that will not only be challenging but also a lot of fun. A demonstration that the Vampire Survivors formula is still completely untapped.

BALL x PIT

Another demonstration of how much is still left to explore is one of last year’s sensation games, BALL x PIT. A game that has taken the audience by storm for being considered tremendously addictive and mixing the ideas of Vampire Survivors with an absolute classic: Breakout. It doesn’t have the elegance of the best games derived from Breakout, or even of Breakout itself, but it replaces it with what many love about Vampire Survivors: increasing numbers, tons of effects, and more balls on screen than you can control. If you want a game to lose yourself in without thinking about anything else, this is your game.

Mythical Concept STARNAUT

We saved the most insane one for last, because it is difficult to explain, understand, or recommend. Unless you really want a tremendously original game, in which case you should dive right in. It’s a Vampire Survivors with lore based on an apocryphal text from the Bible, in 3D, and with an aesthetic that can only be described as hallucinogenic. Is it weird? Yes. Is it, gameplay-wise, everything that Megabonk aspires to but can’t achieve? Also yes. And we can’t think of a better pitch than that for a game like this.

The studio Warkus has released its latest video game, House of Necrosis, an innovative proposal that combines the essence of classic survival-horror with turn-based combat mechanics. Inspired by iconic works from the 90s, such as Resident Evil, this title takes players to a mansion filled with zombies, where they must survive through strategic confrontations and tactical decisions.

A very unique survival horror

House of Necrosis stands out for its graphics that evoke the aesthetics of the PlayStation 1 era, using tank controls and prerendered environments that transport players to a golden age of video games. However, it is in its combat system where a break with the conventions of the genre occurs: the encounters against undead creatures take place in a turn-based format, allowing players to plan their actions more carefully and providing an interesting twist to the typical survival-horror gameplay.

Since its launch, the game has received a remarkable 95% ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam, reflecting the satisfaction of many players who have fully immersed themselves in its world. Comments in the reviews show how some fans have been so hooked that adverse technical experiences, such as system updates that interrupted their gameplay, have not been able to dampen their enthusiasm. “I have been playing much more than I should,” shares a user, reflecting the impact the title has had.

However, some critics mention that, despite the distinctive features, the runes may seem similar in repeated games. Nevertheless, most agree that House of Necrosis offers a valuable experience, attracting fans not only of Resident Evil but also of RPGs and dungeon-crawlers. With its unique approach, Warkus has managed to create a game that feels fresh and relevant while paying homage to the classics.

In a landscape saturated with large productions featuring ultra-realistic graphics and infinite open worlds, a proposal emerges that strays from the conventional: The Secret of Weepstone. This new dungeon exploration RPG, developed by Talesworth Game Studio and published by DreadXP, stands out for its hand-drawn black and white artistic style, a tribute to classic role-playing games from the 70s and 80s.

Many traps and sacrifices ahead

The Secret of Weepstone is scheduled to be released in 2026 and is set in the desolate village of Weepstone, an ancient hamlet that has fallen into decay under the shadow of an abandoned castle. The dark narrative of the game revolves around a heterogeneous group of characters who must face dungeons filled with traps, mythological creatures, and dark secrets on their path to the truth.

The gameplay combines elements of dungeon crawling and dice rolls, offering a tactical experience where players manage a group of up to eight characters. Each encounter is crucial, as decisions and rolls can change the fate of the group. Players will need to equip their adventurers with weapons, magical items, and other resources to overcome a variety of challenges, from clever puzzles to fierce battles against enemies inspired by mythology and classic horror.

Moreover, death plays a central role in the game, granting deadly favors that influence the narrative and progression, adding a layer of complexity and excitement to the adventure. With this approach, The Secret of Weepstone promises to revive the spirit of classic Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, offering a fresh and visually striking experience that genre lovers won’t want to miss.

With this release, DreadXP positions itself as one of the most interesting independent game publishers in the market, consolidating its commitment to innovative proposals in the video game industry.

YouTuber discovers that Dark Souls 2 could have had the most spectacular boss of the trilogy

Since its release, Dark Souls 2 has generated intense debates among fans of the series. Although many consider it the “worst” game of the trilogy, some critics and players have begun to defend its merits, highlighting the innovative ideas it contains. Since its release, Dark Souls 2 has generated intense debates among fans of the series. Although many consider it the “worst” game in the trilogy, some critics and players have begun to defend its merits, highlighting the innovative ideas it contains. Recently, lYouTuber Zullie the Witch revealed an intriguing detail: a crab boss, which would carry a tower as a shell, was planned for the Lost Bastille area, but ultimately was not implemented in the final game.

This crab boss was not an ordinary creature, but a design that changed the dynamics of battles in the Dark Souls universe. According to Zullie, players would have been able to face this peculiar enemy in a large arena, or even enter the tower to attack the crab from behind. This idea, although never realized, is indicative of the fact that Dark Souls 2 housed numerous interesting concepts that were removed, such as its dynamic lighting system, which was surprisingly shown before its release and later reinstated by modders.

An underrated game to reclaim

Moreover, Dark Souls 2 is known for its unique atmosphere and sense of emptiness, evoking a feeling reminiscent of the dungeon crawlers from the PS2 era. In recent years, critics like James Davenport and Lincoln Carpenter have highlighted the depth and injustices faced by the defenders of this title, suggesting that its time of “redemption” has come, although some still resist accepting its value.

Despite the criticism, Dark Souls 2 should not be underestimated. Its legacy is a testament to the ambition and creativity of FromSoftware. Speculations about what this game could have been continue to fuel interest and debate, making Dark Souls 2 a fascinating and complex chapter within the Souls universe.
