Larian confirms that they will not make Baldur’s Gate 4, but that shouldn’t make us worry about the future of Dungeons & Dragons… or of Larian

Despite its overwhelming success, there won’t be more Baldur’s Gate, at least not from Larian Studios, who are already working on a mysterious new game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the biggest successes of 2023. Not only within the world of video games, but in general. A dense game, full of complex mechanics, from a genre that has rarely been popular, managed to captivate the general public thanks to charismatic characters, a fascinating story, and, let’s not deceive ourselves, the ability to make an excellent game overall. But if you’re expecting more Baldur’s Gate 3, we’re afraid we have bad news for you.

Baldur's Gate 3 DOWNLOAD

According to Swen Vincke, founder of Larian Studios, the studio behind the development of Baldur’s Gate 3, they will not be producing any more content for Dungeons & Dragons. This closes the door to any kind of DLC as well as a hypothetical Baldur’s Gate 4, which, if it happens, will be done by another studio.

That doesn’t mean that was the plan from the beginning. At Larian Studios, they were considering the possibility of making some kind of DLC that would expand the game, but they finally decided that it wasn’t a good idea. According to Vincke, the game has a beginning and an end, with a well-closed story, and it’s fine that way. Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t need anything more than what it already has, and they prefer to leave it as it is. A decision that, although it may sadden us, is perfectly reasonable and very contrary to what we usually see in an industry obsessed with squeezing every success to the limit.

However, that doesn’t mean they will stop actively working on the game. As they have already announced, they are working on a mod support system for the game, and they will also continue to work on fixing errors and bugs to create the perfect version of Baldur’s Gate 3. Something they don’t plan to stop doing in the near future.

Meanwhile, it is worth remembering that Larian Studios are not the only ones working on Dungeons & Dragons. The license belongs to Wizards of the Coast and, as we know, they are working on new video games based on it. With at least one of them taking place in the same universe as Baldur’s Gate 3, from the developers of Disney Dreamlight Valley, it doesn’t seem like we’re going to run out of Dungeons & Dragons games. At least not in the short term.

Especially because, if they wish, Wizards of the Coast can continue to use the characters from Baldur’s Gate 3. As Vincke has confirmed, the characters still belong to Wizards, so if they wish, they can create stories, adventures, or even new video games where they appear or are the protagonists. If they want to do it without Larian after the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, that’s a different story. After all, they risk not reaching the level of quality and delicacy with which they have managed to captivate us at Larian.

Because the success of Baldur’s Gate 3 is due to Larian and the fact that they have been working on dense, fascinating, and very interesting RPGs for several decades. With Baldur’s Gate 3 giving them the opportunity to show what they are capable of. Something that seems to have not yet reached its full potential.

Vincke has wanted to emphasize that, from Larian, they have been working on a new project, at least, since January. Pointing out that it is not at all what we expect, he has stated that now the team has grown a lot thanks to the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, and that he is looking forward to us seeing what they are capable of now with even more resources. Something that makes us feel a tremendous curiosity to know what will be the next mysterious step of this studio that has shown that they are, today, among the best in the world.

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 will add something that fans have been asking for since day one

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 will add something that fans have been asking for since day one, in addition to fixing various problems present in the game

Baldur’s Gate 3 is on track to become the most acclaimed game of the year. Nominated for Game of the Year at the Game Awards, selling extraordinarily well, and being a surprise hit both critically and in sales, especially for Microsoft, it’s a game that keeps delivering surprises. And it continues to refine itself over time. Patch after patch, Larian Studios, the game’s creators, have been refining aspects that were causing unpleasant friction among players. And with Patch 5, they’re addressing one of the most discussed issues.

Because Larian Studios has announced that Patch 5 will contain an epilogue. While they haven’t disclosed many details about it, thanks to the image accompanying the announcement, we can get an idea of what it will contain: new scenes of the group at the camp, reminiscing about the time they’ve spent together and what they’ll do in the future. This has been a point of criticism since its release. With an abrupt ending and a real lack of an epilogue beyond the character we choose to romance, the game’s final minutes feel less rewarding than they should. Especially after spending dozens of hours with a set of characters who, in the end, seem to matter very little.

On the other hand, it’s not the only thing that this Patch 5 will include. Another major issue with the game was serious slowdowns in Act 3 following Patch 4, something they have been able to fix with this patch along with other minor issues of lesser importance. Although not necessarily for the public. Because these minor issues include the possibility of Astarion making disgusted faces when kissing us; something that the community didn’t remotely take as a small problem.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC and PlayStation 5. The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S version should be released before the end of 2023, and Larian Studios told us that we would know more at the Game Awards, which take place on December 7th.

Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox already has a date, or almost

Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox already has a date, or almost, because what they have given us is the date on which they will tell us the final release date, this December

Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the games of the year. It’s probably going to win the award for Best Game of the Year at the Game Awards. At the very least, it’s already nominated to win it. And even though PC and PlayStation 5 players have been able to play it, Xbox players are still waiting for their turn. However, it seems they might not have to wait much longer.

Larian Studios, the developer of Baldur’s Gate 3, has announced that the Xbox version’s release date is progressing smoothly for its launch in December. While they haven’t provided a specific date, they encourage us to watch the Game Awards ceremony on December 7th for more information about the exact release date.

Since this announcement, the internet has been filled with speculations about when exactly the game will be released. A popular theory is that the game might launch on December 7th during the ceremony, which is why the studio prompts us to watch it in the first place. However, this is just a theory, and nothing has been confirmed.

If the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S version is released in December, it’s because despite initially planning to launch alongside the PlayStation 5 version, they encountered several technical issues with the game. Specifically, they couldn’t maintain the parity between versions that Xbox demanded, particularly struggling to achieve optimal split-screen cooperative play on the Series S. They ultimately resolved this by removing this feature from the Series S version.

That’s why if you’re interested in playing Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll still have to wait until December 7th to know the definitive date. And who knows, maybe you’ll be playing that very night.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Maiden Update: An Epic Saga of Bug Slaying and Game Enhancement!

Baldur’s Gate 3 receives its first major patch, fixing a massive amount of bugs, and balancing gameplay elements.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an excellent game, fascinating and surprisingly polished for a game of its length and depth. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its problems. It has bugs, it has failures, and many of the most serious aspects of it have been corrected quickly in Larian through hotfixes. Urgent patches to fix problems that need to be addressed as soon as possible. But they hadn’t released any big patches yet. Until now.

Steam DOWNLOAD

The first patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 has solved many problems in the game, in addition to modifying game balance elements. With this they have tried to make the game more like what they had in mind when making it, bearing in mind that no game can withstand the exposure of millions of people unscathed.

Perhaps the most shocking thing is that this patch addresses the staggering number of more than 1,000 bugs, glitches and glitches that could block our game. Something surprising, in part, because the game has not had a reputation in social networks at any time for having serious problems in that category, unlike the vast majority of racist releases. Another thing that is striking is that the changes are so substantial that they have reached the word limit of the patch notes. Literally. There is not enough text to cover all the changes they have made.

Otherwise, other changes they have made, as we have already pointed out, have more to do with balance or the gameplay experience itself. The amount of total character health has increased on Explorer difficulty, they’ve added better kissing animations for the smaller races, and bards have a lot more spells at their disposal. In addition, there is more gold in the game, in general, which means that if you felt that Faerûn was too poor, that’s fixed too.

With patch 2 and patch 3 on the horizon, Larian Studios aren’t going to stop working on Baldur’s Gate 3 anytime soon. And that’s a good thing. But if it’s already an excellent game right out of the box, and we gave you a guide to everything you need to know to play it without fear, we don’t want to imagine how amazing it will be after a couple more patches.

Grim Revelation from Phil Spencer Spells Trouble for Xbox Series S Players

Phil Spencer has thrown Xbox Series S under the bus, stating that games don’t have to be the same as on Xbox Series X.

We all know that promises are carried away by the wind. In the business world, a promise without a watertight contract is something we should never rely on, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be disappointed. The word still means something. Especially the word to the consumer. But it seems that some people have forgotten that. Especially when, because of those promises, they have to end up breaking them to avoid damaging their own businesses.

This is something that has just happened during GamesCom. Among other Microsoft announcements, they have announced that, despite initially being stated for a 2024 release, Baldur’s Gate 3 will be coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in 2023. But, of course, with a significant cost. The Xbox Series S version will not have split-screen multiplayer.

Steam DOWNLOAD

This is strikingly notable because the reason the Xbox version wasn’t initially planned to release alongside the PlayStation 5 version was precisely due to the lack of feature parity between the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions. While its older counterpart had no issues in this regard, Larian Studios couldn’t efficiently execute split-screen gameplay on the Xbox Series S. This was something that Michael Douse, the Head of Publishing at Larian Studios, mentioned on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter. He stated that Microsoft wouldn’t allow them to release the game on the console until feature parity was achieved between both consoles. This condition was necessary for games to be approved by the company.

However, things have taken an about-face. Now, Phil Spencer has declared that neither he nor anyone at Microsoft has ever stated that Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S must have any form of feature parity in the games released for their consoles. This directly contradicts the reasons provided by Larian Studios up to this point.

Even if we accept what Spencer has said, this is dreadful news for Xbox Series S owners. After all, the head of the brand has stated that if other studios want to release scaled-down versions of their games on the Series S, they will allow it. Or at least that’s what they’ve implied. There’s no reason for a studio not to exclude a specific mode or feature from their game on the Series S due to its lower power.

Ultimately, as Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, has stated, they have never aimed for parity between the Xbox consoles. In fact, there never has been. As evidence, he cited how many games on Xbox Series X have ray tracing while the same games lack it on Xbox Series S. According to Spencer, this demonstrates that the policy of parity never existed in the first place. However, regardless of the rationale, this doesn’t reflect well on them. Particularly when his words suggest that Xbox Series X users will always have a better and more complete version of games compared to what will be available to Xbox Series S users.

Steam DOWNLOAD

This sets a terrible precedent that doesn’t benefit either Xbox or Phil Spencer. It benefits them in the sense that they won’t gift Sony a console exclusive deal with Baldur’s Gate 3, but it harms them by leaving Xbox Series S users in the lurch. Shamelessly telling them that they own a secondary console for which it’s not guaranteed that all games will arrive in the same manner as on other consoles. Even if they were promised otherwise. This creates a dreadful impression and it shouldn’t surprise us if it eventually comes back to haunt them.

PC Players Rejoice: Baldur’s Gate 3 Released Early, Console Release Pushed Back

Baldur’s Gate 3 had a close release date, but now it has become absolutely imminent with the date change they’ve made.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the most anticipated game for many people, especially for fans of western role-playing games and Dungeons & Dragons in particular. It’s not surprising because, even though it’s still in early access, what can be played of the game is already absolutely fabulous and it has continued to grow over time, even with a lot of content yet to be added. The remaining content has now been finalized, and finally, an exact release date has been announced in a community update on the game’s Steam page. There’s great news for PC players and just a slight disappointment for PlayStation 5 players.

Baldur's Gate 3 DOWNLOAD

The game will be released on PC on August 3, earlier than its original release date of August 31. On the other hand, the PlayStation 5 version will have to wait six days longer than expected, as it will not be released until September 6. This delay is due to the difference in polishing both versions.

While the PC version is essentially complete, the PlayStation 5 version still needs some polishing. At Larian Studios, the studio behind the game, they aim to deliver a consistent 60FPS experience on PlayStation 5 without any drops, and although they are close to achieving it, they are still in the process of fine-tuning it. As they do not want to compromise the quality of the game by setting an arbitrary date that they believe they cannot meet, they have decided to prioritize the PC players by advancing the release date. Meanwhile, they will continue to work on polishing the details to provide PlayStation 5 players with the best possible version of the game.

Among other intriguing details that explain the heights reached by Larian in this game, it is said that Baldur’s Gate 3 has more cinematic dialogue than the three Lord of the Rings novels combined. Together. This is due to its 174 hours of cinematics, twice the length of each season of Game of Thrones. Together. This gives context to the absolutely massive volume that Larian aspires to achieve with this game.

Furthermore, they have specified some important details about what we can expect from the final version of the game. We will be able to choose from 12 classes and 46 different subclasses, 11 races and 31 different subraces, 37 feats to choose from at certain levels to enhance our characters, over 600 spells and subspells, a story mode, and a hardcore mode. Additionally, everything will be fully translated into both European Spanish and Latin American Spanish, with cinematics dubbed in English and Spanish subtitles. This demonstrates that Larian is not content with creating a good game; they aim to make an exceptional game. And if you are playing on PC, congratulations: you won’t have to wait much longer to experience it.
