Taylor Sheridan, known for his work in the world of film and television, has established himself as one of the most influential screenwriters today. After writing scripts for acclaimed films like Sicario and Hell or High Water, his success was solidified with the series Yellowstone, which has led to numerous spin-offs and new series. To date, Sheridan has produced six series in just seven years, including titles like Tulsa King and Special Ops: Lioness. His most recent project, Landman: A Raw Business, has generated both interest and controversy.
A man who knows how to capture the audience’s attention
Landman has been criticized for its negative portrayal of renewable energy and for perpetuating harmful stereotypes about women. However, the audience has responded positively, turning the series into a resounding success with a third season already confirmed. Despite the criticism, Sheridan has managed to capture the audience’s attention, highlighting his ability to connect with viewers.
Billy Bob Thornton, star of Landman, has shared his perspective on the controversies surrounding the series. According to him, the narrative reflects the reality of those working in the oil industry and how their lives are interconnected with the world of renewable energy. “The series simply shows what the people involved in this business are like,” Thornton commented, defending the authenticity of the characters and the plots presented.
Despite the commercial success, Thornton has also expressed his disinterest in awards, emphasizing that what really matters is personal satisfaction and the impact of his work. “Now I’m too old to worry about things like that,” he stated, making it clear that his priority is art over recognition. Approaching 70 years old, the actor and screenwriter seems to have a clear vision of his career and his legacy in the entertainment industry.

The impact of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on the video game industry continues to resonate after reaching an unprecedented milestone: with 436 awards since its launch, it has become the game with the most Game of the Year accolades since records began in 2003. This success places it above Elden Ring, which until now held the record with 435 awards, a remarkable achievement considering the fierce competition from standout titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Hollow Knight: Silksong.
No other game has ever won so many awards
Since its arrival on the market, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been acclaimed for its gameplay and immersive design, leading many in the gaming community to predict its success at the awards. The game won 9 trophies at the recent Game Awards, adding to its already impressive collection of awards and demonstrating its popularity across various platforms and communities. Resetera, a respected video game forum, has been instrumental in compiling these achievements, documenting the GOTY worldwide, which has allowed Expedition 33 to stand out from the crowd.
Despite the considerable competition in the market, this RPG from Sandfall Interactive managed to stand out in a year when other titans like The Legend of Zelda did not make their appearance, which undoubtedly favored its chances of recognition. Although the number of awards has increased over time, the quality of the game is undeniable, and it is clear that the dedication of its developers has paid off, establishing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as a benchmark in the industry.
While waiting for the results of the upcoming BAFTA, it is hard to imagine that the game could achieve more significant recognition than it already has. With this new record, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 secures its place in the history of contemporary video games.

This year, cinema has been filled with blockbusters dominating the box office, especially at the end of the year, and audiovisual experiences that have little to do with traditional cinema. However, we have not been devoid of great films in the old-fashioned way. Both spectacular and visually captivating films, as well as films with great scripts and even greater performances that catch the attention of cinephiles and attract a more general audience.
This has been the case for one of the most celebrated films, if not the most celebrated, of Leonardo DiCaprio. An authentic surprise that has caused a sensation, has swept through, and despite costing a fortune, has managed to be a box office success. Being a strong contender for the 2026 Oscars. Because One Battle After Another is one of those must-see films of the year.
One battle after another is a film, to say the least, with an interesting premise. The protagonist, “Ghetto” Pat Calhoun, is a pothead with a sixteen-year-old mixed-race daughter. Except that the daughter is from another man, a military man who had a romance with his partner and who now, when he tries to enter a secret sect of secret supremacists, will attempt to kill her to hide what he considers a shameful past. Something that will set in motion a story of paranoia, secret groups, assassination attempts, and terrorist groups that will go far beyond all the characters involved.
How can such a crazy argument be explained? Basically, through two groups of proper names. On one hand, the names of its two main actors: Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn. On the other hand, the names of the creators of the story: Paul Thomas Anderson and Thomas Pynchon.
Leonardo DiCaprio plays an ex-member of a revolutionary group, now a pothead without benefits, who will do anything to protect his daughter. Except perhaps quit smoking pot. Sean Penn plays a deranged far-right military man to the point of being willing to join a cult. And in both cases, they are able to give meaning to two characters that border on caricature, bringing them to life with constant tiny nuances, which could easily be the best performances of the year. Something that undoubtedly has a lot to do with who is behind the camera.
Thomas Pynchon is a writer who, for lovers of postmodern literature, needs no introduction. For those who don’t, Pynchon is considered the father and patron saint of paranoid literature, with a maximalist and absolutely deranged style, featuring characters always on the brink of schizophrenia. Combining cults, secret plans, wars in the shadows, and a poetic vein with constant references, he is regarded as one of the best, if not the best, living American writers. This also comes with something: he has also been considered absolutely impenetrable for the average person, even if he is not that difficult to read, and impossible to adapt to film, which is something that is more accurate.
At least, until the arrival of Paul Thomas Anderson. Who has successfully adapted it to film twice already.
Adapting the extremely unhinged Inherent Vice in 2014, considered Pynchon’s most accessible novel, he has now embarked on adapting another of his novels deemed simpler, Vineland, in this One Battle After Another. Or to be exact, a part of the novel. One Battle After Another offers a modulated version, much less unhinged and leaving out a large part of the novel, turning it into a grand odyssey about a father and daughter’s struggle against a society that hates them for their prejudices.
The result is a film that has taken both critics and audiences by storm. With a 95% on Metacritic, it has grossed over 200 million dollars at the box office with a budget of 130 million. All of this positions it as one of the top favorites for the Oscars, both for its lead actors and for its director, as it sits at the perfect intersection for these awards: popular enough to justify the award, but cultured enough to make it sensible to award it.
If all of this has left you curious to see it, you won’t have to wait long to do so. A battle after another arrives on December 19 on HBO Max. So get ready and set aside 162 minutes to watch it, because if a movie has the potential to be talked about throughout 2026, it’s this one.

Last night was the Game Awards, a gala that aims to be the Oscars of video games. Among all the announcements made, of which we have highlighted the most important of the night, several awards were also given. Giving them different weight and importance, it still isn’t the Oscars, but it has become the major gala of video games. And it is also an awards ceremony where it is easy to attend to discover what is being cooked in the industry at all levels.
Before diving into the big winners and losers of each category, it’s important to provide a brief summary. Knowing how many nominations each of the involved parties had is essential.
The big favorite of the night was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. With 13 nominations, the French game had a hard time not leaving as the big winner of the gala, especially when no one had received so many nominations in the history of the Games Awards. Following closely were Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and Ghost of Yotei, with 7 nominations, and Hades II and Hollow Knight: Silksong, with 6 respectively. Among the surprises were Split Fiction, which only had 4 nominations, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and Silent Hill f, which only managed 3.
How did it turn out for everyone? With few surprises, to be honest. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the biggest winner with 9 statuettes out of the 13 that could be won, leaving no room for anyone else. In that sense, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and Ghost of Yotei are the big losers of the night, as they went home empty-handed despite all their nominations. A big disappointment for Sony.
Creators, players, and online
Among the most unique categories are those of esports and creators. Here, Counter-Strike 2 stood out particularly. Winning both the award for best esports and having a Counter-Strike 2 team, Team Vitality, win the award for best esports team, Valve has been the big winner in this category. Although there were no surprises, Jung “Chovy” Ji-hoon took home the title of best esports athlete for League of Legends after an excellent Worlds.
For his part, MoistCr1TiKaL has won the award for best content creator of the year. With tough competition from Kai Cenat, it is quite likely that being a much more likable figure in public outside of the streaming fandom itself has had an impact.
Among the awards separated from the rest of the categories, Wuthering Waves won the Players’ Voices largely due to the rewards offered by Kuro Games for players to vote for their game. In the most anticipated game category, GTAVI won, much to absolutely no one’s surprise, and for best adaptation, the second season of The Last of Us took home the big prize. Similarly, Doom: The Dark Ages achieved its only award by winning innovation in accessibility for its numerous difficulty options.
A game that has eclipsed all others
Entering the major categories, it is evident that there is a clear winner above all others. That does not take away from the fact that there have been some quite interesting awards. Mario Kart World won best sports game, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles won best strategy game, and Donkey Kong Bananza won best family game.
In the field of action-focused games, Hades 2 won best action game and Hollow Knight: Silksong won best action-adventure game. The highly questionable Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves won best fighting game, not without controversy.
As no surprise to anyone, ARC Raiders won the award for best multiplayer game. And its main competitor, Battlefield 6, won best sound design, rightly taking the award from Expedition 33. In the impact games category, the interesting South of Midnight won, and No Man’s Sky won for best support. Additionally, The Midnight Walk won best VR game and Umamusume: Pretty Derby won best mobile game, resulting in a well-distributed set of secondary awards.
But at the end of the day, there was only one big winner. A game that took it all. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won the awards for best role-playing game, best indie game, best indie debut, best soundtrack and music, best art direction, best narrative, best direction, and game of the year. Accumulating all the technical awards, except one, and all the big awards, becoming the grand prize of the year according to the Game Awards. Even if there has been some controversy over whether it should be considered an indie game or not.
With this, the Game Awards concluded, much less distributed than usual, although with great announcements and a clear winner. Something that gives us a clear perspective on the situation of the mainstream video game industry.
In one of the most surprising news stories leading up to the Game Awards, the indie game Megabonk is in the spotlight due to its controversial nomination in the Player’s Voice category. Its creator, an anonymous developer, previously requested that their game be withdrawn from the nomination for “best indie debut,” arguing that they had already released other titles under different pseudonyms. This request was accepted and marked the first time a nominee disappeared from the list of potential awardees in the event’s history, an exercise in honesty that was very well received by the community. Nominated […]

This request was accepted and marked the first time a nominee disappeared from the list of potential awardees in the history of the event, an exercise in honesty that was very well received by the community.
Nominated in another category at the Game Awards
However, the story doesn’t end there. Megabonk has been reinstated as a candidate for the prestigious Player’s Voice award, where players have the opportunity to vote for their favorite game of the year. Despite facing tough competition that includes renowned titles like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Battlefield 6, the developer’s passion and the community’s support could help the small indie work achieve a prominent position in this category.
The development budget of Megabonk is considerably lower than that of its larger competitors, which further highlights the surprising nomination. The game’s creator has expressed his enthusiasm through social media, asking players to vote in support of his title: “We are back in full swing. Please vote,” he stated.
Fans who wish to participate in the voting can do so through the official Game Awards page. They will need to register, but the process is simple. It is important to mention that the voting will take place in three different phases and is not limited to games released this year, which broadens the range of options for voters.
The animated film KPop Demon Hunters, produced by Sony Pictures Animation and distributed by Netflix, has generated quite a bit of attention in the entertainment industry, especially due to its recent consideration as a favorite for the Oscars. The animated film KPop Demon Hunters, produced by Sony Pictures Animation and distributed by Netflix, has generated quite a bit of attention in the entertainment industry, especially due to its recent consideration as a favorite for the Oscar Awards. However, this projection is overshadowed by the news that it has been declared ineligible for the BAFTAs, the prestigious award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
The British Academy doesn’t want to know about K-pop
Despite Netflix filing a formal appeal against this decision, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts maintained its position, citing that the film did not meet the necessary eligibility requirements. According to sources from Variety, this outcome highlights a notable difference in the perceptions of the two awards, as KPop Demon Hunters is considered a strong contender for the Oscars, a distinction that its creators may not achieve in the British realm.
The collaboration between Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation has been fundamental in the development of this project, which promises to attract a wide audience thanks to its combination of K-Pop themes and action-adventure narratives. However, the fact that its participation in the BAFTAs has been disqualified raises questions about the selection process and the criteria imposed by the British Academy.
In a landscape where recognition at festivals and awards can seriously impact marketing and distribution strategies, the inequality faced by KPop Demon Hunters between the BAFTAs and the Oscars could be representative of the broader struggle in the industry for inclusion and the valuation of international production work.

HBO Max and Netflix closed the gala tying in victories, while Apple TV+ has reached a historic record in its trajectory, with a total of 22 awards, the highest since its launch.
Great series you shouldn’t miss if you haven’t seen
HBO Max, which arrived at this ceremony with 21 awards accumulated in the Creative Arts, managed to add nine more, standing out with productions like The Pitt and Hacks. The performances of Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder in Hacks, as well as Cristin Milioti in The Penguin, were key to its success. This diversity of titles demonstrates that HBO Max continues to maintain its prestige in the world of entertainment.
For its part, Netflix had previously accumulated 24 awards and added six more thanks to Adolescence, its flagship series that swept several categories, including awards for Owen Cooper, Stephen Graham, and Erin Doherty. The platform has maintained a strong competition with HBO Max, closing the event with a refreshing tie in a year where both have stood out strongly.
In a context where HBO and Netflix have dominated, Apple TV+ has emerged as a revelation. With productions like The Studio and Separation, the platform has demonstrated its ability to turn nominations into victories, achieving seven awards at the main gala. Its focus on producing fewer titles, but of higher quality, has proven effective, solidifying its position as a serious competitor in the streaming arena.
In summary, this year’s Emmys not only reflect the competitiveness among these streaming powerhouses, but also the constant evolution of an industry that continues to surprise and adapt to the demands of a growing audience.

The 21st annual BAFTA Games Awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, and will be broadcast live on YouTube and Twitch. This year, the event will feature the acclaimed composer Yoko Shimomura, known for her work on iconic titles such as Kingdom Hearts, Mana, and Live A Live, who will be awarded the fellowship, the highest honor bestowed by the BAFTA.
Not everyone is here, but everyone who should be is here
But we already know some winners of these awards, because BAFTA has revealed that the game Shenmue from SEGA, released in 1999, has been voted as the most influential video game of all time in a community poll. This pioneering title not only introduced innovative mechanics such as quick time events and cinematic storytelling, but also revolutionized the concept of open world by presenting weather cycles and routines for non-playable characters (NPCs). Whether players have experienced its story or not, the impact of Shenmue continues to resonate in the video game industry.
Yu Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue, expressed his gratitude to the fans, stating that this recognition is a powerful reminder that the challenge they undertook continues to inspire many. He highlighted the importance of the passion and support of the fans during the development of the game.
In the same survey, Doom (1993) took second place, followed by Super Mario Bros (1985) in third place and Half-Life (1998) in fourth, while The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998) ranked fifth. The results highlight not only the historical relevance of these games but also the ongoing appreciation that players have for them.
The ceremony will be hosted by comedian Phil Wang and is expected to offer a night full of emotions and surprises for video game lovers.
Ganar premios siempre es positivo, excepto cuando ganas tantos premios que, literalmente, acaba interfiriendo en tu rutina de trabajo diario.
Baldur’s Gate 3 arrived like a natural disaster. Without warning and without any way to prepare for what it would mean for the industry. But unlike a disaster, natural or not, everything it’s meant for the video game and to those of us who enjoy it has been good. It is an excellent classic-style RPG that has elevated the Dungeons & Dragons brand and has definitively put its developers, Larian Studios, on the radar.
That’s why it’s not surprising that Baldur’s Gate 3 has won an obscene amount of awards throughout its almost year-long life. Something to celebrate, given its high quality, but its success has brought with it some unforeseen problems. Because even though it may seem like there can’t be anything wrong with winning lots of awards, Swen Vincke, director of Baldur’s Gate 3, explained in an interview with Edge that winning so many awards has interfered a bit with the studio’s work.
Winning dozens of awards and not wanting to miss any of the galas has ended up being a problem for the studio. So much so, they had to create rotating teams to send different groups of people to the different awards so that the studio wouldn’t have to slow their development. A blessed inconvenience, but still problematic.
Although Vincke acknowledges that they might not go to collect all the awards, he also admits that the awards are important, and they greatly appreciate the support and compliments. Although perhaps their preference would be for all the awards to be given at the same time of year, so that they could definitively close the projects, both in a physical and emotional sense. Ultimately, he understands why that’s not possible.
Taking into account that Baldur’s Gate has won all five major game of the year awards in the industry, something never seen before, the success of the game is undeniable. And no one would blame them if they didn’t attend all the awards ceremonies where they’re celebrated. Yet their commitment to players, the press, and critics seems to have no limits. And that’s another reason to love them.
