The recent film by Guy Ritchie, titled The Fountain of Eternal Youth, has managed to dethrone The Secret Abyss from the top spot in the Top 1 most viewed movies on Apple TV+ since its release on May 23. This new film has burst onto the platform’s catalog, reaching number one in 99 countries in just four days, highlighting its remarkable reception among the audience.

A movie with a premise that is already in the title

The feature film, starring Natalie Portman and John Krasinski, tells the story of two estranged brothers who embark on a global adventure following a surprising call from Luke (Krasinski) to Charlotte (Portman). As the plot unfolds, Charlotte discovers her brother’s connections to a mysterious millionaire and his quest for the legendary fountain of eternal youth. Alongside them is Esme (Eiza González), who also has an interest in this coveted artifact.

With a luxurious budget of 180 million dollars, The Fountain of Youth promises spectacular action scenes. However, despite its commercial success, reviews have been mixed. Many critics consider the film to be mere streaming entertainment, easily forgettable in the short term. Sara Heredia’s review on SensaCine gives it 3.5 stars, suggesting that while there is a nostalgic appeal, the film lacks the substance to linger in the viewer’s memory.

This latest release from Ritchie follows his previous work, The Ministry of Dirty War, released on Prime Video less than a year ago, consolidating the English director in the landscape of modern action cinema.

The premiere of the eighth season of Rick and Morty, titled Summer of All Fears, has surprised fans by presenting adult versions of the characters Morty and Summer, who have spent 17 years in a matrix designed by Rick. In this alternate world, the siblings acquire memories and experiences that deeply affect their family dynamic and their relationship with Rick.

An interesting premise in the first episode

During her time in the matrix, Summer becomes a powerful figure, getting involved in the creation of an electrical network that could make phone chargers obsolete. However, the return to reality poses a dilemma; although only a few days have passed in the real world, they return with memories that have shaped their behavior. The interaction between Summer, Morty, and their parents, especially with Beth, is explored, which initially seems to strengthen their family ties.

Nevertheless, the episode also reveals the tension that arises from these memories, as Summer begins to belittle her mother and show an arrogant attitude towards her previous life. Morty, for his part, faces the consequences of his experience in the matrix, leading him to a confrontation with Rick. Despite the narrative opportunities surrounding these “older” characters, the writers choose to reset the situation at the end of the chapter, returning the characters to their original state.

Critics have noted that, while the episode is entertaining, it does not meet expectations regarding character development and plot. With at least two more seasons confirmed, fans are wondering if the series has the necessary ambition to renew itself and offer more impactful narratives, considering that the family dynamic could have changed drastically with the new characters from the matrix.

This movie was booed at Cannes and is now considered a cult classic that you can watch streaming

The 2025 Cannes Film Festival has witnessed a polarized reception towards some of the films presented, with reactions ranging from long ovations to loud boos. While some works, like Alpha by Julia Ducournau, have garnered nearly 12 minutes of applause, others have faced harsh criticism. A clear example of this is Personal Shopper, directed by Olivier Assayas and starring Kristen Stewart, which received boos during its presentation in 2016, reflecting a historical resistance from Cannes towards genre cinema. A clear example of this is Personal Shopper, directed by Olivier Assayas and starring Kristen Stewart, which received boos during its presentation in 2016, reflecting a historical resistance from Cannes towards genre cinema.

A movie that was once vilified, now adored

Personal Shopper tells the story of Maureen, a young assistant to a model in Paris, who can communicate with the dead while dealing with the recent loss of her brother. This premise, which combines elements of drama and supernatural genre, was not well received at the festival, causing divisions among critics and the audience. Some, like G. Calvo from Variety, have defended Assayas’ vision, arguing that his original approach is a brave attempt to explore less conventional territories in cinema.

Despite the controversy at its premiere, Personal Shopper has achieved a favorable average on Metacritic, with a score of 77/100, suggesting that, outside of Cannes, it has found a significant group of admirers. This film, which is available on Prime Video, could be considered an interesting option for those looking for different and challenging stories.

The disparity in audience reactions at Cannes has also been notable. Historically, the festival has shown a resistance to films of certain genres, which may explain the negative reactions towards Personal Shopper and other films with similar themes. With Cannes 2025 still ongoing, the dynamics of love and hate continue to define the festival experience.

The film, starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Sully, has achieved good box office earnings, suggesting that, at least in commercial terms, it has found its place.

An Uncharted that has known how to play its cards

Uncharted tells the story of the beginning of the relationship between Drake and Sully as they search for a treasure related to the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Throughout their adventure, they face Santiago Moncada, played by Antonio Banderas, who shares the same goal, raising the tension of the plot. Although the film takes influence from classics like Indiana Jones and video games like Tomb Raider, it feels like a proposal with its own identity, focusing on entertainment rather than a faithful adaptation of its original material.

The production of Uncharted took 12 years, passing through the hands of several directors and actors considered for the main roles, making its arrival on the big screen a remarkable achievement. From the beginning, the project envisioned Mark Wahlberg as Nathan Drake before Tom Holland took on the role. Other famous names like Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro were also involved at different stages of the process.

Although there can be debate about whether Holland is the ideal choice for the iconic character, Uncharted presents itself as a light and entertaining movie that achieves its goal of providing fun, moving away from the expectation of a perfect adaptation of the popular video game. For those looking for a bit of fun, Uncharted is currently available on Prime Video.

In 2026, Sony’s universe dedicated to Spider-Man will expand with the release of a new live-action series titled Spider-Noir, starring acclaimed actor Nicolas Cage. This project aims to merge the aesthetic of film noir, similar to works like Sin City, with the mythology of the most famous comic book spider, offering a reimagining of the hero in a crime-ridden environment of the 1930s.

A series with a rawer and darker tone

The Spider-Noir portrayed by Cage will not only distance itself from the more youthful version of Tom Holland, but will also embody a detective fighting against corruption in a dark and crime-ridden New York. This version of Peter B. Parker is part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, coexisting with other anti-heroes like Kraven, Morbius, and Venom, whose future, although uncertain, continues to generate expectations among genre fans.

The series is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and MGM, and will feature a cast that includes Lamorne Morris and Brendan Gleeson in roles that have not yet been revealed in detail. Spider-Noir will be based on the comics initiated in 2008 by David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky, who introduced a superhero marked by fatalism and the dark atmosphere typical of noir, which promises to attract a distinct and more adult audience.

Although the series was officially announced in February 2023, its production faced delays due to the recent strike in Hollywood. Spider-Noir is expected to be released first on MGM+ and a day later be available worldwide on Prime Video, forming part of a broad strategy to revitalize interest in a universe that some critics suggest may be suffering from saturation.

In the world of cinema, some directors manage to create a series of masterpieces in a short period of time, and Francis Ford Coppola is a prominent example of this phenomenon. After the success of the first two installments of The Godfather, Coppola directed The Conversation, a thriller that has remained a benchmark in American cinema. This film, starring Gene Hackman, is available on Prime Video until May 14.

A cult classic of the American thriller

The conversation tells the story of Harry Caul, a surveillance expert who, after intercepting a suspicious conversation between a couple in the bustling Union Square of San Francisco, finds himself caught in a spiral of paranoia as he suspects he may be witnessing a potential murder. The plot explores the tensions between Caul’s personal and professional life, as he believes that his work threatens to invade his privacy.

Coppola offers a tense and rhythmic narrative that captures the pulse of social and political change in the United States in the 1970s, right at a time when paranoia dominated collective thought, especially after the Watergate scandal. The film not only presents new approaches to espionage techniques but also reflects the climate of distrust that was experienced in the country, ironically using methods similar to those the government employed to surveil its political opponents.

With a masterful performance by Hackman, The Conversation has established itself as a classic of the new American cinema, maintaining its relevance more than 50 years after its release. For those interested in enjoying this masterpiece by Coppola, it is a limited opportunity on Prime Video that should not be missed before May 14.

Prime Video has released the first trailer for “Heads of State,” an action comedy film set to premiere on July 2.

Starring John Cena and Idris Elba, the plot revolves around a public rivalry between two world leaders: U.S. President Will Derringer (John Cena) and British Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba).

However, this enmity turns into an unexpected collaboration when both become targets of a foreign adversary.

Get ready for laughs and action with Heads of State, coming to theaters this July

In this movie, directed by Ilya Naishuller, known for his work on “Hardcore Henry” and “Nobody,” Cena and Elba showcase their chemistry in chaotic situations that promise both intense action and comedic moments.

The story begins with the leaders’ first official trip, which drastically complicates when their plane is attacked, forcing them into survival mode and to seek the help of MI6 agent, Noel Bisset, played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Jack Quaid also appears in a surprise role that adds an element of surprise to the plot.

Although “Heads of State” is not expected to offer a deep narrative, the focus on the humorous dynamic between Cena and Elba suggests that it will be an appealing option for fans of action comedies.

With a strong cast that includes Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, and Sarah Niles, this movie promises to be light entertainment, perfect for enjoying in theaters and later, in the comfort of home through Prime Video.

The newly released trailer reflects the chaotic energy one might expect from the lead couple. With their experience in action and comedy films, Cena and Elba are ready to deliver a show that, while perhaps lacking in narrative depth, will make audiences laugh and keep them on the edge of their seats with its constant frenzy.

As the end of April 2025 approaches, Prime Video is preparing to say goodbye to five notable movies that are scheduled to leave the platform.

This selection ranges from science fiction thrillers to intimate dramas, offering subscribers a last chance to enjoy them before they are removed. The movies being removed include classics like ‘Contagion’, ‘Jurassic World’, ‘Life’, ‘Past Lives’, and ‘Starship Troopers’.

Last chance to enjoy exciting cinematic adventures on Prime Video

‘Contagion’, starring a stellar cast that includes Kate Winslet, Matt Damon, and Marion Cotillard, is a film that tells the story of the spread of a deadly virus after a woman returns from Hong Kong and suddenly dies. The movie addresses, with a realistic and chilling tone, the challenges faced by scientists and governments during a public health crisis, making it an almost essential watch today.

On the other hand, ‘Jurassic World’ offers an explosive adventure with dinosaurs, directed by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. This sequel to the iconic ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise invites viewers to a theme park where things go awry when a modified dinosaur escapes, promising fun and nostalgia for action film fans.

Science fiction fans should not miss ‘Life’, an intense story that follows a team of astronauts on the International Space Station who discover an extraterrestrial organism, whose development becomes a threat to the survival of the crew.

Finally, ‘Past Lives’ is a moving drama that examines the reconnection of two childhood friends after years of separation, offering a deep and emotional reflection on the decisions that defined their lives. And, of course, ‘Starship Troopers’ adds a touch of dark humor to the list, with its mix of space action and social critique.

These titles will no longer be available on April 30, so it’s time to make time for a movie marathon on Prime Video before they say goodbye completely.
