These are the affected devices and the deadline

WhatsApp has announced that as of May 5, 2025, it will not work on devices with versions earlier than iOS 15.1, which directly affects some Apple phones that, although they continue to function normally, will not be able to access WhatsApp. Specifically, we are talking about the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, which will no longer receive support from Facebook.

The main reason for this change is that the new features and updates of WhatsApp require the technologies offered by the latest versions of iOS. According to Apple’s data, only 9% of iPhones are running iOS 16 or earlier versions, so the impact of WhatsApp’s decision will be minimal.

We can check if we are on an iOS version compatible with WhatsApp. We just need to go to Settings > General > Software Update. If our device supports iOS 15.1 or later, the solution is as simple as updating the system.

For older models that can no longer be updated, the end of WhatsApp support marks a turning point. Although we can now rely on RCS to send messages to any device for free and without the need for third-party apps —as long as our carrier supports it—, it is true that some groups are still only available on the Facebook app.

The move by WhatsApp reminds us of the importance of keeping our devices up to date. In a dynamic ecosystem like Apple’s, these updates ensure that we continue to enjoy the best that technology can offer us.

WhatsApp launches its new app for the iPhone

WhatsApp Business brings a number of commerce-focused features to iPhone.

WhatsApp Business was a long time coming. We got our first glimpse of it back in the summer of 2017 and further images of the new app from WhatsApp leaked onto the internet later that year. The beta version dropped a little later the same year, just before Halloween, and the app finally received a wider roll-out in January last year. At least it did if you use WhatsApp on Android.

For iOS users, WhatsApp Business was nowhere to be seen, and it has remained that way until now. Almost 16 months after it became available on Android, WhatsApp Business is now available for iOS users, too.

According to WhatsApp, millions of businesses have started using WhatsApp Business since it first launched on Android. The WhatsApp blog post announcing the move to bring WhatsApp Business to iPhone users says that the team behind the app has received a lot of requests to give small business owners the chance use the app on their device of choice, rather than being forced to use it on Android. In answer to these requests, WhatsApp Business is now available for free on the Apple App Store.

As you may have guessed, WhatsApp Business isn’t aimed at the individual user, but rather business owners. As WhatsApp Business levies a charge for its use, it provides businesses a way to communicate with their customers while also offering WhatsApp a way to monetize its use. WhatsApp has long struggled to make money, and WhatsApp Business is one of the latest ways it is trying to do so.

WhatsApp Business employs a number of enterprise-friendly features, to help businesses stay in touch with their clientele. These include:

  • Business Profile: Share useful information about your business such as a business description, email or store addresses, and website.
  • Messaging Tools: Respond to customers easily with efficient messaging tools — quick replies to provide fast answers to frequently asked questions, greeting messages to introduce customers to your business and away messages to let them know when to expect a reply.
  • WhatsApp Web: Chat from your desktop to manage conversations and send files to customers.”

If you’re a business user who uses an iPhone, then this will be good news as it offers you a new way to communicate with your users. For now, though, that is only true if you’re in one of the countries where the app is available. WhatsApp Business is now available in Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, India, Mexico, the U.K., and the U.S. but WhatsApp has promised that it will be available all over the world in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp’s newest app gets some new features

WhatsApp Business now has Quick Replies, Labels, and Chat List Filtering.

WhatsApp is a fantastic communication tool. With more than 1.5 billion users, downloading WhatsApp offers an easy, free, and secure way of communicating with a huge chunk of the world’s population. The problem though, was that WhatsApp didn’t offer a secure way for businesses to create their own WhatsApp accounts in order to communicate with their customers using the messaging service. Anybody could start an account pretending to be any business. This is why WhatsApp recently launched a brand-new app, WhatsApp Business.

WhatsApp Business allows businesses to set up a WhatsApp account their customers know is legitimate. Although WhatsApp charges businesses to use its official new app, the messaging giant claims over 5 million businesses around the world have signed up to use the new service. If you own one of those businesses or if you are a customer of one of those businesses, you’ll be happy to know that WhatsApp is adding three new features to WhatsApp Business.

Twelve months after WhatsApp Business’ official launch, three new features have been added to the app. In the blog post announcing the update, WhatsApp said, “We’re excited to keep growing WhatsApp Business and introducing new features that make it easy for customers to find and engage with businesses that are important to them.”

It is now possible for businesses to set up Quick Replies that can be quickly and easily sent to questions they’ve received before or receiver regularly. Sending Quick Replies needs to be an easy process and WhatsApp has made it so. All businesses need to do to access all of their previously saved Quick Replies is type the ‘/’ symbol into the text field. This will then show up all of the previously saved quick replies ready for the right one to be selected.

Another key feature to come with the WhatsApp Business update is Labels. Labels can be used to organize both chats and contacts adding an extra layer of organization to the app. WhatsApp Business Labels come in different colors making it easy to highlight chats and contacts based on varying criteria like outstanding payments, new clients, ongoing contracts etc.

The final big change to come in the WhatsApp Business first anniversary update is Chat List Filtering. This feature will allow WhatsApp Business users to filter chats by unread messages, groups, or broadcast lists.

If you’re one of the 5,000,000 businesses reported to have signed up to WhatsApp Business, then these tools will help you both communicate more effectively with your customers and also save time while doing so. If you’re a customer of one of those businesses, you could expect smoother communication with them but also greater potential to receive promotional materials as it’ll now be easier for them to label the type of customer you are, and coordinate WhatsApp promotional campaigns better. This, of course, is all on top of the new ads, which WhatsApp has promised to introduce in the near future.

Would you pay to use WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is to start charging companies to use WhatsApp Business

WhatsApp is to start charging companies to use WhatsApp Business

WhatsApp Business is the latest app from the messaging giant that launched in January. It provides an official way for businesses to represent themselves on WhatsApp and a secure way for individuals to contact them. WhatsApp hopes that over time it’ll create a bridge between businesses and customers that can be trusted. WhatsApp announced yesterday that businesses will soon have to start paying for that trust.

Ever since Facebook bought WhatsApp for $19 billion, it has struggled to monetize the service, despite the messaging service’s 1.5 billion users. This announcement is the latest attempt to do so.

As well as the news that businesses will have to pay to use WhatsApp Business, WhatsApp announced some cool features that they’ll get for their money. Businesses will be able to send notifications like shipping confirmations, appointment reminders and event tickets using the new WhatsApp Business service. For the privilege, they’ll have to spend between 0.5 and 9 cents, depending on the country of operation.

The good news for businesses is that if they respond to queries from customers within 24 hours, those subsequent messages will be free. If they take longer than 24 hours, however, they’ll have to pay for the messages sent. This move incentivizes the setting up of WhatsApp type call centers.

Facebook is desperate for WhatsApp to turn a decent profit

WhatsApp knows that the prices it is charging are higher than the costs of SMS messages, but that users get to send messages for free and are more comfortable chatting in the WhatsApp ecosystem than in the antiquated, unused, and somewhat scary-basic SMS app. Of course, WhatsApp is also offering end-to-end encryption on all messages too. Businesses will be able to store messages, however, so you can expect a “This chat is being saved for training purposes” message, or something similar, should you contact a company via WhatsApp.

Keep your eyes open for WhatsApp contact number from the companies you’re using, and you’ll be able to start talking to them over WhatsApp rather over the phone. If this puts an end to having to listen to annoying music while on hold, then this is one change we fully endorse.

WhatsApp Business is Live: What is WhatsApp Business?

WhatsApp has officially launched WhatsApp Business (Android only for now) in Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, United Kingdom and the United States. It won’t be long before the app is released all over the world.

To be clear, the app isn’t aimed at you but rather small companies. WhatsApp business allows them to establish official communication channels with their clients. In addition, having a WhatsApp Business account is synonymous with security.. It removes all opportunities for criminals to fraudulently pass themselves off as companies in order to swindle WhatsApp users.

Companies can now create WhatsApp Business profiles that include data like a description of their business, email, official website and contact details etc.

Once businesses have a verified profile, they will have access to a number of tools including quick answers that’ll quickly answer the most commonly asked questions they receive. They’ll also be able to create custom welcome messages etc.

WhatsApp Business will also include analytics so that companies can monitor customer satisfaction.

More than 80% of small businesses in Brazil and India use WhatsApp to communicate with their customers and grow their business. This fact demonstrates how important WhatsApp’s new business app will be going into the future.

As a user, you don’t need to do anything. You don’t need to download WhatsApp Business (unless you have a small business of course). All you have to do is be aware of this new WhatsApp system and know that there is now a way for businesses to contact you officially using the popular messaging app.

WhatsApp Business: a glimpse of the paid version of WhatsApp

We’ve long predicted that WhatsApp has been looking for ways to connect users to businesses, and it seems this is coming about with a new app: WhatsApp Business, a version of the app specifically for businesses.

After a lot of rumors, thanks to WaBetaInfo, we now know the details of this new app version, exclusively for professionals. The first thing to know is that it will be a paid version of the app, and it can be used on your phone in combination with the traditional WhatsApp app. So, if you have a business, you can use the regular app for personal use and the Business app to stay in touch with your clients.

WhatsApp Business will help companies send messages via WhatsApp to their potential clients. These messages may be more advanced than classic WhatsApp messages and may include text, images, action items and also translation into different languages, all at once.

WhatsApp Business wants to position itself as an exclusive option for companies by offering quality information, not mere advertising. For example, it will allow banks to confirm our transactions or airlines we’re flying with to let us know of flight delays.

WhatsApp Business users can choose between two types of profiles: Verified and Unverified. Verified businesses will have a green badge next to their names and a verification symbol.

WhatsApp will require a lot of information from companies who want to register as Businesses and will carefully regulate the creation of Verified profiles.

For now, WhatsApp Business will start to roll out soon in emerging markets such as Brazil and India, countries where they’re also experimenting with a payment platform via WhatsApp.

Does the arrival of WhatsApp Business mean that individual WhatsApp users will start receiving unwanted messages from companies? Not at all: each user can choose if he/she wants to receive this type of business messaging, which will never be spam or unwanted advertising.

So, although WhatsApp will start earning money this way, it’s far from becoming an app overrun by ads
