A new teaser for the upcoming ‘Dragon Age’ raises our hype… and lowers our expectations of getting it soon

They have all their eggs in the basket of ‘Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’ and a new untitled ‘Mass Effect’ about which we know absolutely nothing for now.

BioWare can’t help but spill the beans and share what they’re up to. Perhaps that’s why they announced they were in the midst of a new ‘Dragon Age’ back in 2018. It’s 2023 now, and we’re still being fed on trailers while the game’s anticipation remains sky-high, and the gaming community is buzzing with excitement. After a few months of silence, the studio has released a new trailer… which only suggests that we’ll have to wait a little bit longer.

The age of the dragon feels quite lengthy

These years haven’t been easy for BioWare: the once well-oiled machine has faced problems due to massive employee layoffs and the lackluster success of some of their projects, such as ‘Mass Effect Andromeda’ or ‘Anthem’. It seems like they’ve placed all their hopes on ‘Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’ and a new untitled ‘Mass Effect‘ about which we know absolutely nothing for now.

This new 50-second trailer, celebrating “Dragon Age Day” (apparently, that’s a thing), has basically served to tell us that in the summer of 2024, we’ll get the first major trailer (or at least, a “full reveal,” whatever that means). Essentially, it’s the typical teaser for a trailer that’s been quite common lately, but after six years of waiting for more news.

Alright, it’s not what we expected, but it does have something very good that was almost forbidden for us until now: a date. We don’t know if it’s a date for an imminent release or if it’ll just lead us to another future date. By then, the game will have been in development for nine years, and all we know is that it will focus on Solas as the main antagonist and will be a direct sequel to the previous one, which isn’t common in the franchise. If you’re hoping to get lost for hours in the landscapes of Antiva, you’ll still have time to replay ‘Dragon Age: Inquisition’ before experiencing the saga with next-gen graphics.

Is there a new Mass Effect in the works? Bioware celebrates N7 with a mysterious teaser

Mass Effect returns with a teaser that, although it does not clarify anything about where the saga will go, confirms that there will be a new installment

Some days are special for fans of certain video game franchises. These days have been established as the grand day for particular franchises, becoming official or unofficial celebrations of those video games. For Mass Effect, that day is November 7th, or N7 Day. While it’s true that in recent years there hasn’t been any news, nothing significant regarding the game, this year BioWare has decided to do something different. They have chosen to give us a glimpse into the future.

To celebrate N7 Day, BioWare has been releasing a teaser in small pieces, with messages about its “decoding” that have given hints about who the protagonist is. In this teaser, they present a signal originating from the Andromeda galaxy, which is responded to by someone from the Milky Way. Although the transmission year is listed as under embargo, all of this provides more than enough clues for us to speculate on what is happening here.

It has been three years since the announcement of a new Mass Effect game in development. Since then, we have had no information, so it is not unreasonable to assume that this is the continuation of Mass Effect: Andromeda. A game that initially received harsh criticism from both critics and the audience but has become a cult title over time.

In this regard, we have confirmation from the project’s director, Mike Gamble, stating that it is both a sequel to Mass Effect 3 and Mass Effect: Andromeda, confirming that the game will feature both galaxies – both Andromeda and the Milky Way. This raises questions that the teaser itself ignites. Who is responding to the message? In what year does it take place? These are important questions for the fans and will likely keep them speculating for years. BioWare’s next project is Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, about which we also don’t know much.

Gamescom Unveils Dismal Updates for Fans of Mass Effect and Dragon Age

Bioware is in the news, but not for reason to rejoice: It has laid off about 50 people to “stay competitive”

When things take a turn for the worse, nothing can assure us that things will turn out well. Unfortunately, we live in a capitalist system, and that means if it’s necessary to lay off people to make the numbers work, individuals will be let go. Regardless of their talent, history, or needs. At the end of the day, the numbers are what matter. Cold and harsh. Something that’s not an exception in the gaming industry, and on days like today, the news breaks our hearts a little.

BioWare has announced that they have laid off around 50 people. Being a studio of approximately 300 individuals, this signifies a significant reduction in their workforce, which is not exactly promising for the studio’s future.

Gary McKay, the General Manager of the studio, has clarified in a studio statement the reasons for doing this. According to him, in order to achieve the quality standards they set and to continue growing in a rapidly evolving industry, they need to change to become a more agile and focused studio. This requires them to eliminate around 50 positions within the studio.

However, this reasoning sounds, at the very least, strange, from the moment we’ve learned about some of the positions that have been cut. Although we’ll probably know more in the days to come, we know that writer Mary Kirby, who has been behind the scripts of all three Dragon Age games and the acclaimed Star Wars: The Old Republic, is one of the individuals whose work has been abruptly eliminated.

These are not good news for fans, especially when BioWare has announced a return to the Dragon Age franchise. Announced in 2018 under the name Dragon Age Dreadwolf, with this wave of layoffs and a key figure like Kirby, who has always been integral, being let go, it’s only natural to harbor doubts about the future of the project and the studio. That’s why, even though McKay says they are confident that Dreadwolf will reach its full potential, which is why its release was recently postponed, this decision conveys quite the opposite message, even if unintended.
