Why is a Dragon Age remaster not possible?

According to an interview with Rolling Stone, the creative director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, John Epler, it is unlikely that we will see a remastered version of Dragon Age like the Legendary Edition of Mass Effect. The reason is that Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age were developed using Eclipse Engine, an internal Bioware engine, and Inquisition was created with Frostbite, the DICE engine used for Battlefield games. There are few people left with experience using the former.

While with Frostbite they have fewer problems, according to Epler, there are only 20 people at Bioware currently who have come to use Eclipse. Not even those who know it in depth or are well acquainted with its functioning. This makes its remastering much more complex.

That said, Epler states that the studio loves original games. And that they do not rule out the possibility of doing a remaster of them someday. Gary McKay, the General Manager of the studio, has clarified in a studio statement the reasons for doing this. According to him, in order to achieve the quality standards they set and to continue growing in a rapidly evolving industry, they need to change to become a more agile and focused studio. This requires them to eliminate around 50 positions within the studio.

However, this reasoning sounds, at the very least, strange, from the moment we’ve learned about some of the positions that have been cut.
