Electronic Arts, better known as EA, has presented its results for the past fiscal year, covering from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. Increasing its revenue to $8.026 billion, they have earned 9% more than in the previous fiscal year, all thanks to Battlefield. Stating that it is the best-performing Battlefield in a single fiscal year and that it has set numerous records for the franchise in a single fiscal year, the reason they have achieved these results has been due to this franchise.

The game continues to run like a charm

This has not prevented EA from making mass layoffs at Battlefield Studios less than two months ago. Even though the game sold 7 million copies in three days, EA considered that the game performed below their expectations.

According to Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, the credit for the company’s success this year particularly lies in “the incredibly successful launch of our flagship franchise Battlefield.” This is ironic considering they laid off a good part of the studio responsible for the game. The studio continues to release patches and seasons, building on that initial success.

Other important elements of EA’s strategy have been its football titles, EA SPORTS FC 26, FC Online, and FC Mobile, which have grown by about 5% collectively. Meanwhile, Apex Legend, a video game that faced some serious issues during 2024 and 2025, has managed to increase its revenue by 10% thanks to a change in monetization strategy and engagement in the game. Figures that make the layoffs at Battlefield Studios even more incomprehensible.

After the closure of its servers, the possibility arises that Anthem could have local servers

Anthem, the ambitious game developed by BioWare, has officially closed its servers, marking an expected end for a title that had lost public attention long before its definitive shutdown. Many players were surprised to discover that the servers were still operational until last summer, reflecting more of a confusion in the industry’s development system than a failure of the game itself. This closure has left a void, but it has also sparked hope among a small group of enthusiasts who wish to revive the experience without relying on EA’s servers.

The community could end up sustaining the game

The former executive producer of Anthem, Mark Darrah, stated that there is code for local servers that could be recovered, which gives a glimmer of hope to those looking to restore the game. However, the road to revitalization will not be easy and may be hindered by technical issues and a possible cease and desist order from EA, which could severely limit any recovery efforts.

Recently, the YouTuber And799 presented a video showing a preliminary version of Anthem running with two connected accounts, although it is noted that this is an initial concept and not a complete game. The progress is nascent, and expectations should be moderated, according to those behind the project called Fort’s Forge.

Despite these obstacles, the gaming community has shown renewed interest, especially in the subreddit dedicated to Anthem, which was initially going to be archived in read-only mode. In response to the strong demand, the moderators have decided to reevaluate their approach, indicating that if the community wants to remain active, it needs volunteers willing to take on the moderation of the forum. This community commitment could be key to keeping the conversation about Anthem alive in the future.

Battlefield 6 confirms the delay of its second season amid a constant bleed of players

Recent data shows that Battlefield 6, from Electronic Arts, has sold over 10 million units since its launch, but is facing a significant loss of players. According to SteamDB, the title has recorded a peak of 75,000 concurrent users on PC, suggesting a precariousness in its community. In light of this situation, EA has made the decision to delay the launch of the highly anticipated Season 2 until February 17, in order to implement improvements based on feedback received from players.

The game is experiencing major issues

This movement indicates the studio’s willingness to prevent the new season from having an immediate negative impact, which could result in greater fragmentation of the user base. As the number of players decreases, EA faces the challenge of revitalizing interest in the game. In this sense, Season 2 has been deemed crucial for its long-term viability, as a negative reception could push the player count down to as low as 30,000 or 40,000 in the following months.

To calm the situation while players wait for the new season, update 1.5 will be released on January 20, which will include bug fixes and balance adjustments, as well as the Gelifuego event, which will feature a mini-battle pass of 25 levels. This patch is designed as an “oxygen balloon” to retain current players and provide new content before the more significant changes of Season 2.

With the pressure to reverse a complicated situation, EA’s long-term strategy to monetize Battlefield 6 largely hinges on the success of this upcoming update. The gaming community will closely watch the decisions the studio makes in the coming months, as the future of the shooter will largely depend on how they respond to these threats and opportunities.

Electronic Arts (EA) is on track to be acquired by a consortium led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, in a deal valued at 55 billion dollars. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the PIF aims to acquire 93.4% of the company, leaving private equity firm Silver Lake with a modest 5.5% and Affinity Partners, led by Jared Kushner, with only a 1.1% stake.

A deal where the Arabs are in charge

Saudi Arabia’s interest in the video game industry is not new, as the PIF has invested in several recognized companies, including Nintendo and Take-Two Interactive. This move suggests a growing appetite in the country to diversify its investment portfolio towards the technology and entertainment sector.

However, the potential acquisition has raised alarms in the political arena. U.S. Senators like Richard Blumenthal and Elizabeth Warren have expressed their concerns about ‘foreign influence’ in EA, emphasizing the challenges it could pose to the company’s sovereignty and creative control. Despite these concerns, EA has stated that it will maintain creative control after the sale, regardless of the PIF’s majority stake.

On the other hand, it has been reported that the PIF may be facing financial difficulties due to questionable investments, although the entity claims to have 60 billion dollars in cash and financial assets. Rumors suggest that the fund’s overextension could hinder its ability to continue investing at a sustainable pace, although this apparently would not affect the agreement with EA.

The situation surrounding EA’s acquisition will continue to evolve, and the eyes of the industry will remain focused on how these events unfold in the near future.

David Grivel, director of the Splinter Cell Remake, has been announced as the new director of the project after returning to Ubisoft, where he previously worked for 11 years. Grivel left the company in 2022 to join EA, where he was involved in the development of Battlefield 6. However, his return to Ubisoft, where he expressed his excitement in a LinkedIn post, marks a new chapter in the highly anticipated remake of the acclaimed espionage franchise.

A remake with many ups and downs

Despite Grivel’s return, the project’s performance is still in an uncertain phase. Since his departure in 2022, the company has been looking for writers who can update the narrative, maintaining the essence of the original game while making it appealing to today’s audience. This initiative underscores Ubisoft’s intention to respect the legacy of Splinter Cell while incorporating contemporary elements into its story and characters.

The return of Grivel comes in a context where the Splinter Cell franchise continues to expand through different media. In this sense, an audio series has been launched on BBC Radio and an animated series titled Splinter Cell: Deathwatch on Netflix, which has already been renewed for a second season. These initiatives have helped keep the brand alive and attract both old fans and new audiences.

Additionally, the game Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow made its debut on Steam in October of this year, where it was included in a sales package of classic games from the series. This release reinforces the relevance of the Splinter Cell legacy today and may generate greater interest in the remake that is currently in development.

Battlefield 6, released a month and a half ago, has faced significant issues that have affected the player experience, especially with its much-anticipated server browser. Since its launch, this feature has turned into a real mess, with a proliferation of dedicated servers for experience (XP farming) that have overwhelmed EA’s servers, preventing players from creating lobbies with friends.

Players create their own fun

In response, DICE drastically reduced these XP farming servers, which led to protests from some players, some of whom requested refunds, as they bought the game specifically to participate in these types of activities. However, despite these initial difficulties, there has been a resurgence in the creation of custom games within the Portal mode, although activity is still limited compared to expectations.

Among the custom game modes that are gaining popularity are Chaos Climb, Snipers VS Runners Duck Hunt, and RPGs VS Golf Carts, each with its own Portal code. Chaos Climb, for example, has started to attract a steady number of players, standing out for its originality and the fun it offers in exploring a unique gameplay mechanic. Despite this, the server browser remains clunky and non-functional, making it difficult to search for and access these custom games.

It is crucial for DICE to implement a system of shareable folders and improve the visibility of custom games in the main menu. Currently, the community tab continues to lose relevance, occupying a low position in the game menu, which suggests a lack of interest from the developers towards user-generated content. Many players, disappointed, have stopped exploring a community that could revitalize Battlefield 6 if it received the proper support.

A way to have everything about The Sims in one place

EA has confirmed that it has several projects in development within the Sims franchise, including a new title known as Project Rene and a mobile game. Both games are intended to be part of an integrated platform called The Sims Hub, which promises to unify the experience and allow content sharing among users.

The uncertainty surrounding The Sims 4 may be related to the recent purchase of EA, which has led many content creators to reevaluate their official partnerships with the company. Despite the confusion surrounding the future of the game, EA has emphasized its commitment to fixing bugs and possibly developing significant updates for the game engine.

Recent rumors suggest that EA may be considering a significant technical overhaul of the game to keep it active in the market. However, the lack of clarity in official communications and the noise coming from the community raise doubts about the direction the franchise will take moving forward.

With the future of The Sims 4 up in the air, many fans continue to await concrete news that clarifies EA’s intentions and the possible role that The Sims Hub will play in the evolution of the series.

A former business director of Square Enix claims that players do not care about the use of AI in video games

Jacob Navok, former business director of Square Enix, has defended the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in video game development, stating that the new generations of players do not seem to care significantly about this technology. In a recent statement, Navok argued that most players “do not care” about the use of AI and cited the commercial success of Arc Raiders, a title that prominently uses AI in its production.

Get to know users better than the users themselves

The development of Arc Raiders by Embark Studios has been the subject of polarized comments, especially due to its use of AI-generated voices. Despite having the resources to hire real voice actors, Embark has opted for a combination of recordings and text-to-speech technology in various aspects of its production process. This does not imply, according to its co-founders, the intention to replace actors.

However, not everyone in the industry shares Navok’s enthusiasm. Critical voices, such as John Buckley from Pocketpair, have questioned the value of generative AI in terms of creating game mechanics, suggesting that it represents a flawed approach. Despite this, companies like EA and Take-Two have expressed their interest in AI, committing to adopt it cautiously and with a balanced approach.

The debate over AI remains divisive, with a large number of developers and organizations expressing concerns about the unauthorized use of their intellectual property. Groups representing major names in the video game and anime industry, such as Studio Ghibli and Square Enix, have urged AI companies to avoid the misuse of their intellectual property.

As technology advances, the question of whether generative AI will become a staple in video game development or generate more resistance will remain a hot topic in the gaming community.

Less than two weeks before its release, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is in a peculiar situation. According to the latest figures from Steam, the game developed by Treyarch and Activision Blizzard ranks 173rd on the list of the most anticipated titles, falling behind unexpected proposals, such as a dating simulator or a remake of a classic. Furthermore, in terms of sales, it has barely managed to position itself at 85th place on the same platform.

A game that doesn’t seem to be attracting much attention

The Call of Duty franchise, which has dominated the shooter genre for years, is now facing unprecedented competition. Battlefield 6 is garnering considerable public attention, presenting a more sober and classic tone reminiscent of the Battlefield 3 installments. This change contrasts with the more spectacular and celebrity-filled style that has characterized the latest versions of Call of Duty.

To counter this trend, Activision has launched a free trial of the multiplayer mode of Black Ops 7, aligning it with the release of the beta for the battle royale of Battlefield 6. However, some analysts see this as a rushed attempt to capture the public’s attention. Despite this, the decline in listings does not necessarily indicate a general disinterest. A key factor is the arrival of Black Ops 7 on Game Pass from day one, which could discourage direct purchases on Steam.

Despite the current position of the game on Steam and the fierce competition, it is likely that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will sell millions of copies. However, some experts suggest that the franchise may be experiencing the first signs of fatigue in an increasingly saturated and diversified market.

The situation at Electronic Arts (EA) is complicated with the news that the company is in the process of being acquired by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, pending approval from international bodies. This potential purchase has led EA to intensively integrate artificial intelligence into its operations, a decision that, according to sources within the company, is generating significant challenges in day-to-day work.

EA employees say no to AI

EA employees have expressed their frustration in trying to adapt artificial intelligence tools to their tasks. Anonymous reports suggest that the automation of processes, such as code creation and conceptual art, has led to producing faulty results, forcing workers to manually correct errors. This lack of effectiveness is causing delays in delivery deadlines and a tense work environment.

Moreover, fears about the possible reduction of jobs have intensified. Designers and artists fear that by using AI to replicate their work, their necessity in the future may be compromised. A former employee of Respawn stated that some of the recent layoffs could be attributed to the increasing automation of tasks that were previously performed by humans.

EA has implemented mandatory courses on the use of AI, urging its employees to treat these tools as ‘partners’ in their daily work, reflecting a growing dependence on technology. According to the Game Developers Conference, 52% of video game developers are already using generative AI tools.

However, the company has also acknowledged in its annual report that the use of AI can carry social and ethical risks. EA warns that it must be handled carefully to avoid potential reputational damage and loss of trust from consumers. Given the current environment, the fusion of human creativity and automation is more critical than ever.
