Kojima's craziest game will have an anime very soon: this is what we know

Hideo Kojima is an interdisciplinary genius. Before focusing on the world of video games, he wanted to be a novelist and film director, and in fact, he wrote several novels that he never published and directed several amateur films with his friends. Ultimately, the world of video games is what gave him the opportunity to express what he has inside, and since then, he has shown that there is no better fit for him. Even if his fiercest critics insist that he is a frustrated director. He is not, among other things, because Kojima has always rejected the possibility […]

Ultimately, the world of video games is what gave him the opportunity to express what he has inside, and since then, he has shown that there is no better fit for him. Even if his fiercest critics insist that he is a frustrated director.

It is not, among other things, because Kojima has always rejected the possibility of directing a movie. Something that has been offered to him on multiple occasions. But what he has not rejected is the possibility of producing movies or animes based on his works. Kojima Productions was created with the intention of not only producing video games but all kinds of audiovisual content, and it seems that it is finally going to happen. Because Death Stranding is going to have its own anime.

An anime of its strangest video game

Although he has not revealed more details, in an interview for Variety Japan, the Japanese creator has confirmed that he is developing an anime of Death Stranding. His intention with this is to strengthen the Death Stranding IP, bringing it to other media, and making it more known among the public.

While, as we have already said, no further details have been revealed, there is no shortage of talent in Japan that could create an anime of Death Stranding that lives up to its references. The combination of science fiction and philosophical themes is a specialty of Japanese cinema, particularly animated, so they should have no trouble finding the perfect team to make this adaptation. Even if, still, we do not know any of the names being considered for this ongoing adaptation.

A live-action film adaptation of which we do know details

We know more details about the adaptation of the video game to film. In this case, a live-action one. Death Stranding will be brought to the big screen by A24, a film production company known for its low-budget films adored by critics and festivals around the world, such as Midsommar or Uncut Gems, and that is now also taking charge of the film adaptation of Elden Ring.

The person in charge of directing and writing the film adaptation of Elden Ring will be one of the most well-known and repeated names in today’s Hollywood: Michael Sarnoski. Director and screenwriter of Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, he has already planned his next film after Death Stranding: a grand epic drama titled The Death of Robin Hood with Hugh Jackman as Robin Hood, also for A24, which promises to take his career to a new level if it goes well.

Although Robin Hood will have to wait. First, he has to shoot and release the film adaptation of Death Stranding, which is planned for next 2027. A date that has been recently confirmed by Hideo Kojima himself, thus confirming his close involvement with the project.

It seems that we won’t see all of Death Stranding

With Death Stranding 2: On the Beach set to be released on June 26, it seems that the Death Stranding universe is far from running out of steam. Even though Kojima has confirmed that he does not plan to make more Death Stranding video games in the future. Busy with two video games already, OD for Xbox and Physing for PlayStation, it seems that the future of Death Stranding, for now, lies in other media rather than video games.

That said, we still barely know any details about the movie. We don’t know anything about the anime beyond its existence. And Kojima himself spent four installments of Metal Gear Solid saying that was the last one, this time for real. So we don’t know what the future holds for us, although what is clear is that the coming years belong to Kojima, but above all, they are for Death Stranding.

Hideo Kojima, the acclaimed video game creator, has revealed that he has several projects in development, among which stands out Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, scheduled for release on June 26 on PlayStation 5. This title, a sequel to his innovative 2019 game, promises to continue exploring themes of connection and isolation, hallmark features of Kojima’s narrative.

Death Stranding does not seem to be Kojima’s future

In addition to Death Stranding 2, Kojima is working on a horror title called OD and on Physint, an action-spy game reminiscent of his famous Metal Gear Solid franchise. The idea for Physint emerged during a personal health crisis for Kojima, who realized the public’s desire for a game in the style of Metal Gear. “I reflected and thought the idea was good,” he told Edge Magazine.

Both projects, Physint and OD, have faced delays due to the voice actors’ strike currently affecting the industry. Despite these setbacks, Kojima has indicated that Physint could take between five and six years to hit the market, which could lead it to a new generation of consoles. This ambitious game aims to provide a hybrid experience between video game and movie through the use of cutting-edge technology, although no details about the plot have been shared so far.

On the other hand, Kojima has mentioned that he does not plan to create Death Stranding 3. However, he has ideas for future video games and has assured that he has a USB full of proposals, in case something were to happen to him. With multiple projects on the horizon, fans’ curiosity about Kojima’s creative direction continues to grow.

Kojima's next crazy idea: a real-time life simulator where characters age with the player

We all know that Hideo Kojima, the renowned creator behind the Death Stranding saga, sometimes loses his mind; but he continues to expand his vision on the narrative and mechanics of video games. In his recent episode of the KOJI10 podcast, Kojima shared two innovative concepts that are swirling in his mind. One of these projects suggests a radical approach: creating a video game that punishes players for distancing themselves from the action for prolonged periods. The idea is that if a player stays away for too long, their character could forget essential skills and objectives, reflecting the common experience of returning to a game and not remembering the plot or mechanics.

Merely fantasies or the future of video games?

Additionally, Kojima considered the possibility of developing a real-time life simulator where characters age as the player continues their journey. This proposal would lead players to start as young individuals and see how their physical and mental abilities change drastically over time; allowing for a narrative rich in personal evolution. However, the creator expressed his doubts about the acceptance of such an ambitious idea, suggesting that the audience might not be attracted to a video game that encompasses the passage of time in such a literal and exhausting way.

Despite his insecurities, what is undeniable is that Kojima has a history of surprising the industry with creative and unconventional approaches. These concepts, although still in the early stages of conceptualization, could lead his future projects in unexpected and unique directions in the world of video games.

As always, Kojima’s followers eagerly await the evolution of these ideas and how they will materialize in future titles, especially in the sequel to Death Stranding that is already on the horizon.

The highly anticipated release of Death Stranding 2 for PlayStation 5 is scheduled for June 26, and, as a novelty, the game will be primarily set in Australia. This choice of location is not casual, as the renowned creator Hideo Kojima will be present in Australia to promote the game and participate in a discussion alongside George Miller, the famous director behind the Mad Max saga, at the Sydney Film Festival.

George Miller appears in Death Stranding 2 itself

Miller will not only lead the conversation that will take place on June 14, but he will also play an acting role in Death Stranding 2 as Tarman. This character has been described as intriguing, as every time he appears in the material shown from the game, he is associated with tar, in addition to having a peculiar winged black cat that is likely made of this material. Miller has praised the original game, stating that it has made a significant impact on the industry.

The Sydney Film Festival event will focus on the creative intersections between film and video games, highlighting the visionary approach that both artists bring to their respective disciplines. Tickets are now available starting at AU$50 and are expected to sell out quickly.

Recently, some media outlets had early access to Death Stranding 2 and the comments have been overwhelmingly positive, suggesting that the new title resembles a Metal Gear installment more than fans might have anticipated. Although the game will be twice as extensive as its predecessor, it is said to capture the fast-paced and immersive essence of gameplay from the start.

With the combination of these innovative facets and the promising collaboration of Kojima and Miller, Death Stranding 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2023.

Hideo Kojima, the renowned video game creator, has once again surprised the gaming community with his bold ideas on how real-time mechanics can transform the gaming experience. In a recent episode of his podcast KOJI10, Kojima reflected on a series of innovative proposals that could take immersion to a new level, especially in his upcoming project, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

A protagonist who can’t stop forgetting what he knows

Among the discarded proposals is a mechanic that would allow the protagonist Sam’s beard to grow over time, forcing the player to interact regularly to maintain it. However, the most striking idea he shared was the conceptualization of a game of forgetfulness, where the player’s absence would have drastic narrative consequences, resulting in the loss of essential skills for the protagonist if not played for an extended period. This is reminiscent of previous mechanics in his work, such as in Metal Gear Solid 3, where food could spoil over time.

Additionally, Kojima envisioned a game in which the character would age in real time, with physical and mental abilities that would be affected throughout their life, and suggested another concept in which players would have to wait for products like wine or cheese to mature in real time. This last idea would promote a long-term gaming experience, encouraging players to return regularly.

Kojima’s visionary approach to game experience design continues to challenge conventional norms, and many fans are eager to see how these ideas will materialize in his future projects.

Death Stranding 2 will place a greater emphasis on music

The world of video games is preparing for an emotional sequel with the release of Death Stranding 2, in which the music of Low Roar, the pseudonym of American singer-songwriter Ryan Karazija, will play a fundamental role. The world of video games is preparing for an emotional sequel with the release of Death Stranding 2, in which the music of Low Roar, the pseudonym of American singer-songwriter Ryan Karazija, will play a fundamental role. Karazija, who passed away at the age of 40 in 2022 due to complications from pneumonia, left a musical legacy that profoundly marked the atmosphere of Hideo Kojima’s first title, released in 2019.

A great emphasis on the music of the sadly deceased Low Roar

The compositions of Low Roar, especially tracks like Don’t Be So Serious and I’ll Keep Coming, were essential in establishing the introspective and melancholic tone that characterized Death Stranding. Kojima has expressed his desire to pay tribute to his friend and collaborator, ensuring that Karazija’s music will live on in the sequel. During a recent interview, the Japanese director revealed that he received a posthumous album with unreleased songs from Karazija, which allowed him to incorporate those pieces into the new game.

The importance of Low Roar in Kojima’s universe transcends mere sound accompaniment. Their melodies provide a deep emotional connection to players, reflecting themes such as loneliness and the need for reconstruction in a devastated world. With the implementation of these new compositions, Death Stranding 2 not only positions itself as a sequel in the traditional sense but also as a love letter to the work of an artist who left an indelible mark on the industry.

Kojima has also suggested that players will be able to access these melodies through the integrated music player in the game, raising the possibility of a special space being reserved for Low Roar’s latest composition. Undoubtedly, Ryan Karazija’s legacy will continue to touch millions of players, making Death Stranding 2 an even more endearing and meaningful experience.

The world of video games and cinema has been engulfed in a whirlwind of rumors recently, with unconfirmed reports suggesting that Alex Garland, director of films like Annihilation and Civil War, would be in negotiations to direct a film adaptation of Elden Ring for A24. The outlet Nexus Point News was the first to break the news, although it quickly retracted, causing confusion among fans of the game and cinema enthusiasts.

A rather confusing news story that should be taken with a grain of salt

Despite the lack of official confirmation, the rumor quickly spread across platforms like ResetEra and Twitter, where the notable video game news aggregator Wario64 shared it, amplifying its reach. During its brief circulation, Nexus Point News claimed that “Elden Ring is expected to be Garland’s next movie, with filming scheduled to begin in 2026”. However, the article was removed shortly after its publication, leaving many questions unanswered.

Although Nexus Point News is not known for its entertainment coverage, they have broken news stories in the past that suggest a possible connection to the industry. Attention increased when Jeff Sneider, a well-known “Hollywood rule-breaker,” tweeted that Garland is indeed in negotiations for the project, which has further fueled speculation. Additionally, Garland has expressed being a big fan of the game, which could increase the chances of him agreeing to direct the film.

A24 has already shown interest in the field of video games with its recent collaboration on an adaptation of Death Stranding, which suggests that the producer is looking to expand its film catalog. However, the details about the movie’s narrative are uncertain, given that much of the story of Elden Ring is told through item descriptions. Ideas such as a possible prequel focused on Marika have been discussed in the community. Until an official announcement is made, the situation remains in the realm of speculation.

One of the standout features of the game will be the implementation of weather events that will influence the gaming experience, as well as a day-night cycle that will not only add visual beauty but also new challenges for players.

More action-oriented due to what players are asking for

Hideo Kojima, the renowned game creator, has stated that while combat will play a more significant role, the main focus will still be on deliveries. In Kojima’s words, “[Death Stranding 2] is a game primarily centered on deliveries.” However, the pressure generated by fan expectations has led the team to add more combat options, ensuring that players have different ways to approach situations, whether through evasion, the use of vehicles, or direct confrontation.

The development of this sequel was influenced by the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the team to adapt their creative process and work from home. Kojima rewrote much of the narrative to reflect themes of communication and human isolation in the digital age, which has led the game to not only be about connection but also about its complications.

With the launch in sight, the Kojima Productions team feels anxious and excited about the outcome. Despite the challenges, Kojima has expressed his satisfaction for having completed the development: “I am very happy that we were able to finish the development and reach a good port,” said the director during a recent press round.

Hideo Kojima has generated great anticipation for his upcoming release, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which will be exclusively launched for PS5 on June 26, 2025. The sequel promises to expand the enigmatic universe of the saga, with a deeper narrative and gameplay that is expected to be more challenging than that of its predecessor.

We have two good news for you

Since its reveal through a cinematic trailer, fans have been eager to learn more about the new features this title will bring. Kojima has indicated that the development of Death Stranding 2 has been particularly demanding, causing considerable exhaustion for the Japanese creator. However, his efforts seem aimed at providing a unique gaming experience, where gameplay improvement is key.

One of the most encouraging news for the gaming community is that it has been confirmed that Death Stranding 2 will not feature microtransactions. According to the listing on the PS Store, there are currently no plans to introduce in-game purchases, which suggests that any additional content will be offered for free through updates. This is a relief for those concerned about monetization policies in current video games.

The game will retain the multiplayer model that characterized its first installment. Players will not need a PS Plus subscription to access multiplayer elements, which encourages a form of indirect cooperation through the constructions and routes of other users visible in the game world.

Finally, several editions of the title have been announced, which will include exclusive items depending on the players’ choices. There is still time before its release, but expectations continue to grow around what Kojima and his team have in store for this new adventure.
