During a podcast on July 14, Nate mentioned that a Direct is expected this month, although it will not take place until after the release of Donkey Kong Bananza, scheduled for July 17 on Switch 2. This release is significant for Nintendo and could mark the beginning of a series of important announcements.
A highly anticipated Nintendo Direct by the community
Additionally, an event for Pokemon Presents has been scheduled for July 22, suggesting that there could be a week full of news related to Nintendo. Nate the Hate, acknowledging the proximity of both events, indicated that the possibility of a Nintendo Direct taking place in the same week as the Pokemon event is not unprecedented, which opens the door to several important announcements.
Among the speculations about what could be revealed in the upcoming Direct, the possibility of a Donkey Kong movie project or the confirmation of Red Dead Redemption II for Switch 2 is mentioned. Additionally, Activision has expressed interest in bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo’s console, which could be a hot topic in future presentations.
It is relevant to note that Nintendo has not held a Direct in July 2023 or July 2024, which adds a level of uncertainty regarding the regularity of these events. However, since the company’s next earnings report will be published on August 1, announcements for a Direct could be aligned with the presentation of these financial results.
Nintendo fans and followers should keep an eye on the Nintendo Today app and other official platforms for any last-minute announcements as this potential narrative around the Nintendo Direct unfolds.

In an unexpected turn of events, figures close to Nintendo such as Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros. series, and Yuichi Nakamura, a prolific voice actor known for his work in Nintendo advertising, have had to enter the pre-order lottery to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 console. Despite their closeness to the company, both have found that there are no shortcuts in the quest for the coveted device.
A Hilarious Rivalry
The scenario became especially comical when, after learning that Sakurai had managed to secure a pre-order, Nakamura expressed his desperation on Twitter, joking that he would cut ties with anyone who got a console before him. This led to a back-and-forth, with references to the 1997 movie, Men in Black, that made a humorous rivalry between them evident. Sakurai commented, through a translator, that “it needs to be forgotten quickly,” referring to the Neuralyzer, the device that erases memories in the movie.
To put an end to this friendly dispute, Sakurai and Nakamura met to recreate a famous scene from Men in Black, where Sakurai used a karaoke microphone as a nod to the Neuralyzer, intending to neuralyze his friend. In a later post, Nakamura shared a melancholic image of a Nintendo Switch with a “2” written on the back, symbolizing his struggle to get one, which adds a layer of sadness to the story.
While Sakurai celebrated his success, other developers, including those linked to projects like the developer of Balatro, were still struggling to get their hands on the coveted console, creating a contrast between the joy of the pre-order and the disappointment among those who have not yet succeeded. This situation reveals not only the demand for the new hardware but also how even those at the top of the industry must face the same difficulties as the general public.

The world of video games has been shaken by the announcement of a new title from FromSoftware, titled The Duskbloods, which was revealed during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. This development is surprising not only for being an addition to Nintendo’s library but also for its focus on a more robust multiplayer experience, an unexpected twist for a studio known for its narrative-driven and individual experience approach.
From Software embarks on another peculiar multiplayer adventure
The Duskbloods stands out as a PvPvE action game that supports up to eight players, marking a significant evolution in the studio’s direction towards multiplayer. Unlike previous titles like Dark Souls and Elden Ring, where multiplayer was an optional feature, this new IP is designed from the ground up to offer a collective experience, breaking down the barriers between single-player and shared gameplay.
Although at first glance it may evoke the aesthetics of Bloodborne, FromSoftware assures that The Duskbloods is a completely new concept. This shift in focus follows the trend initiated with Elden Ring, as well as the friend project Nightreign, a game that had already explored new multiplayer dynamics, albeit with a limited number of participants. This suggests that FromSoftware is committed to expanding its universe through cooperative and competitive gaming experiences.
With the industry increasingly leaning towards multiplayer-focused titles, FromSoftware’s new game could signify a radical shift in its creative strategy. Although fans may have some reservations about this new approach, expectations are high. FromSoftware’s evolution towards multiplayer could redefine the way their experiences are enjoyed, and many will be watching closely how this new chapter in their history unfolds.

In a few hours, the long-awaited presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2 will take place, an event that promises to attract the attention of fans and the industry in general. According to the information provided by Nintendo, the presentation will last approximately 60 minutes, similar to the reveal of the original Switch in January 2017. This duration has even surprised Masahiro Sakurai, creator of the Super Smash Bros series, who in a recent tweet expressed his astonishment and clarified that he has no information about the content that will be announced.
Sakurai is a little tired of us taking for granted that he knows things
Despite not having details about what is to come, Sakurai recalled that he received a commission in 2021 to develop a video game proposal, and fans have been speculating about the possibility of a new project related to him being announced in the near future. Sakurai apologized for not being able to share more details, but hinted that if the game were to materialize, its announcement would be inevitable.
The anticipation for the presentation is high, and many fans are eagerly awaiting the news that Nintendo could reveal today. For weeks, an atmosphere of anticipation has been generated around the Switch 2 and its possible features and launch titles. Although Sakurai has indicated that he is not involved in Nintendo’s official announcements, his interest in the presentation reflects a sentiment shared by many in the gaming community.
Rumors about the Switch 2 have been circulating, and although specific details have not been confirmed, many are hoping that the presentation will shed light on new games and features that will expand Nintendo’s ecosystem. In the meantime, all eyes will be on the live stream, hoping to discover what surprises the Japanese company has in store.
Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here. Or at least its official presentation. Although Nintendo has already introduced the console and its name, that’s basically all we officially know about it. However, a Direct will be held very soon where we hope they will provide us with all the details we can expect to make an informed purchase about this new console. Given the success of the original Nintendo Switch, it’s normal for us to be excited about this new console.
Now, what can we expect from tomorrow’s Direct? That’s a good question. And we already know some things. Between the official announcements and the leaks, we can give you a rough idea of what to expect. And we provide all the information for you below.

What announcements can we expect?
Unfortunately, nothing has been officially announced yet. That said, we should expect at least the announcement of the release date, the price of the console, and the launch lineup. Specific features of the console, such as what the mysterious C button does, is something we also hope to see here. What we do not expect to see here are any specific console bundles or specific hardware specifications of the console. Although it is possible that Nintendo surprises us regarding these topics, it is not something they have done with previous consoles in their presentations, and it does not seem that this will be the exception.
What are the games that will be released at launch?
Again, there is no official announcement at the moment. What we can expect with almost total certainty is a Mario Kart 9, since they presented a Mario Kart in the console’s trailer that did not correspond to any we had seen before. Likewise, we should at least expect the console to have next-generation versions of already announced or published games, such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond or Xenoblade Chronicles X.
What other games could we expect? It’s hard to know. Rumors suggest that there may be a remake of Kirby Planet Robobot from Nintendo 3DS. Aside from that, among the major Nintendo franchises, the one that seems most likely to have a new installment is Super Mario, as it hasn’t had a new 3D release since the beginning of the Nintendo Switch generation, with Super Mario Odyssey. Therefore, a Super Mario Odyssey 2 could be a highly anticipated release for the console’s launch window.
What are the features of the console?
Again, officially, we do not know what the specifications of the Nintendo Switch 2 are. That does not mean we do not know some details. If Nvidia’s leaks are correct, the console features an Nvidia Tegra T239 chip, with an ARM Cortex-A78C CPU, a 12 SM Ampere GPU, and 128-bit LPDDR5 memory. Furthermore, internal emails from Activision that were read in the FTC v. Microsoft case indicate that the console would have power similar to or slightly higher than that of the eighth generation of consoles, that of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. They also indicate that the console would have the capability for DLSS and ray tracing, which would imply that its power would be at least equivalent to that of a PlayStation 4 Pro.
How reliable are these leaks? In fairness, quite a lot. They all come from internal documentation of companies that work very closely with Nintendo. Something that implies that, one way or another, it is likely that we will end up seeing exactly these specifications of the console. Although, as we have already pointed out, it is very likely that we will still have to wait a few days to know the details, as Nintendo usually does not focus on the technical specifications of its consoles in its presentations.
What are the plans for the console?
According to a recent leak, the console would have a launch in three phases. With the launch of the console, Nintendo’s own games would arrive, focusing on strengthening its primary catalog. The second phase of the launch, which would be between October and November, would consist of reinforcing its catalog with titles from third-party companies. The third and final phase, which would take place during the holiday season, has not had its details revealed.
When will the console be released for sale?
As we have pointed out before, the console does not have a release date yet. All rumors suggest that the most likely date is June, but still without a specific day.
When will the console be available for reservation?
As with the release date, we still do not have a release date, although we do have several leaks. The two biggest ones, contradicting each other, provide two completely different but very close dates: one says it will be on April 2 after the Direct and the other says it will be on April 9 after a countdown that will start during the Direct. In both cases, the information suggests that it will be revealed during tomorrow’s event.
How much will the console cost?
Not only do we not know, but we have no indications of it. Everything points to it being in the range of between 400 and 500 euros, but anything below and above that, 50 euros up or down, should not be surprising.
Does this mean that the original Nintendo Switch will be discontinued?
Despite the launch of a new console, the Nintendo Switch will continue to sell and receive support normally in the coming years. During last week’s Nintendo Direct, numerous games were announced for Nintendo’s previous console, including several games that won’t be released until 2026, so the console’s lifespan is assured for at least a couple more years.
Will Softonic cover the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?
As with previous Directs, you will be able to read everything Nintendo announces on the website as soon as the event ends on Softonic.

Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight, has been removed from the Nintendo eShop in North America, generating various speculations among the gaming community. Despite its absence from the Nintendo store, the game remains available on other platforms such as PlayStation Store, Xbox, and Steam, as well as in the European eShop, which has led many to question the reasons behind this decision.
The most shared theory: it has to do with Nintendo Switch 2
One of the theories most considered by fans is that the removal of the game from the North American eShop could be related to an upcoming release for the anticipated Switch 2 console, rather than indicating a possible cancellation of the project. Team Cherry, the development studio, has assured that the development of Silksong is progressing well and that the game will be released in the future, despite the lack of constant updates since its initial announcement.
The interest in Silksong has been remarkable, as the title won the Most Anticipated Game award in 2022 and 2023, highlighting the anticipation and enthusiasm of the community. However, to date, concrete details about the game have been scarce, fueling the curiosity of its followers.
In this context, many are focusing their attention on the upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation scheduled for April 2. Rumors suggest that Silksong may make an appearance during this event, which could mean a revelation about its current status and a connection with the new console. This has further heightened expectations among the gaming community.
Is Xbox going to announce its new policy through a Nintendo Direct? It’s a possibility that is floating in the air and shouldn’t be dismissed.
Xbox has decided to remain silent. While rumors say that several of their exclusive games may become multiplatform, and even that the company could shift towards supporting other companies like Sony or Nintendo, Microsoft has decided not to comment. For now. They will do so on February 15th, in their podcast, in what seems to be one of their regular talks and nothing more. Something very strange, given the commotion it has caused and the impact this could have if true. But what if there was a reason for doing it this way?
There aren’t many reasons to simply deny it. Even if it’s true. But one that would make sense, given the information we have, is that it’s not Microsoft’s place to take the first step in revealing exactly what’s happening. Something that would make sense if we consider certain recent rumors.
According to a recent leak from a source that has been accurate in the past on these same issues, Nintendo will hold a Direct focused on third parties on February 15th. The same day as the Microsoft podcast, only a few hours earlier. If the leaks about Hi-Fi Rush coming to Switch, or the rumors about Game coming to the Nintendo console are true, then it would be logical for Nintendo to announce this, not Microsoft. They are the ones most interested in making the announcement and getting the publicity, not the Redmond company, and in that sense, the wait would make sense.
If Nintendo has a Direct on the 15th, it is expected that they will announce something related to Microsoft. They may not give specific details and that may be what Phil Spencer focuses on in the podcast. This is something that could happen, as Nintendo tends to announce third-party Directs on the same day as their broadcast.
If this were to happen, it would be a reasonable explanation for why we should wait. If not, there are very few other reasons to do so. Simply going out and denying or confirming it were much more reasonable prospects if there are no other business ties to fulfill, as could be the case of having a deal with Nintendo. So don’t be surprised if Nintendo unexpectedly announces a Direct on the very same day. Or if finally, as often happens, it is simply that the paths of corporations, like those of God, are inscrutable.
