Naruto returns in a crossover that we never saw coming

Naruto will have a totally unexpected crossover with the Ninja Turtles that, although we still don’t know the details, it won’t take long to see.

Although Naruto ended a few years ago, its impact remains intact. Partly thanks to the serialization of Boruto, which follows the adventures of his son with the same name, and partly because it is a manga and an anime that has had a great impact on an entire generation. That’s why it’s not surprising that it continues to appear everywhere, including having crossovers with other comic book characters, some of which are also ninjas. Although, let’s be honest: we didn’t see this crossover coming.

IDW Publishing has confirmed that they will release a crossover between Naruto and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in October. Although we don’t have many details about the series, we do know that there will be both a physical and digital version, and that the cover art is done by Jorge Jimenez. Entitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto, it will be a miniseries; all other details are yet to be confirmed—including the writers, the artists (if they are different from Jimenez), and the story of the comic itself.

This will be the first time that Naruto and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cross paths. Although official crossovers by manga characters are not common, the Ninja Turtles have already fought with or against numerous other comic book characters, so it’s not a surprise on that front. What the relationship between this unlikely group will be is something we will have to wait until October to see, although it’s hard to imagine how Naruto couldn’t feel at home among a group of outcasts addicted to eating pizza and helping the homeless.

The Naruto game accused of using AI for the voices… was only a product of Bandai’s ineptitude

It turns out that the title, which has been released for every imaginable console, had such low quality in the English dubbing that there are quite a few fans who have jumped to say that they had surely used artificial intelligence to save a few euros.

After a year of back and forth with artificial intelligence, the art world has finally started to realize the real (and negative) importance that generative AI can have. From creating questionably quality covers to producing primitive and dull writing, talentless individuals finally believe their time has come and they can compete on par with professionals. Consequently, the public has begun to raise eyebrows at all low-quality content, believing that AI is behind it… as if there haven’t been poor-quality products all along.

AI, absolutely!

That’s how we got to the game ‘Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections’, which seems like a tongue twister in itself. It turns out that the title, released for all imaginable consoles, had such poor quality in the English dubbing that many fans have jumped to say that surely they had used artificial intelligence to save a few euros.

The surprise was even greater when Bandai Namco admitted that they hadn’t used AI, but simply, when editing and mastering the voices, there were inconsistencies, and therefore, the game was left (and released) in that state. By the way, the voice actors don’t share the same opinion: Mike Flanagan posted on Twitter (and then deleted) “I can guarantee that I didn’t say that line in that way,” and others, like Michael Schwalbe, have expressed the same about their own performances.

In fact, Schwalbe claims to have run the dialogues through a program that detects AI and it came out positive, contradicting the producer’s statement. Whether they used AI or not, the truth is that the game, which is actually a compilation of others with a couple of new screens, has not succeeded at all and has not gained any notoriety beyond the disastrous use of sound. Bandai Namco has tried to put out the fire with a water pistol by assuring that the dialogue will be heard correctly thanks to a future patch.

Honestly, by this point, we can begin to sense that AI is a solution to a non-existent problem, and it’s only going to serve a handful of millionaires to save a few thousand euros… which they’ll later have to spend again to fix crisis campaigns due to things like these. And this is just the beginning.

The archive that holds the originals of Astro Boy, Naruto, and Detective Conan is closing, and they may have to delete them

Tokyo Laboratory will close its doors next fall and with it will go many mythical anime originals that, if not claimed, will have to be destroyed.

Technology changes everything, and technology changes all the time. While this has a positive side, it also has the tragic aspect that technological preservation is not only a necessity but a need that is rarely fully understood. Throughout human history, much of our culture has been lost due to the inability to preserve our outdated technology. It appears that we are on the verge of experiencing another one of these catastrophic transitions.

Tokyo Laboratory is set to close its doors next autumn. If you’re not familiar with the name of this company, that’s understandable, but it has actually played a crucial role in many anime series you adore.

Owned by TOHO, Tokyo Laboratory was founded in 1955 to edit, archive, and develop films. Thanks to its ample space, TOHO also began using it as an archive for original anime films and television series due to its vast storage capacity. For instance, franchises like Mobile Suit Gundam, Astro Boy, Naruto, and Detective Conan have relied on Tokyo Laboratory’s services to store their original materials and preserve them with maximum security.

However, Tokyo Laboratory’s primary function is film editing and development. Due to the shift in anime production to digital, which requires much less physical space, they no longer need these facilities to preserve the content they produce.

So, what’s going to happen to all the original materials they have stored there? Tokyo Laboratory is attempting to return them to their rightful owners. Unfortunately, many may not claim their materials. In those cases, they are legally obligated to destroy all originals for which they do not hold the rights. This will be a significant loss, not only for the anime industry but also for culture in general.

That’s why the closure of Tokyo Laboratory is doubly sad. On one hand, a legendary company in the industry is closing its doors. On the other hand, many original materials will disappear, and we will never know more about them. It’s a genuine tragedy for the medium.

The name of a character in ‘One Piece’ was changed at the last minute due to the success of ‘Naruto’

What if we told you that everything you know about Sanji could be different… starting with his very name?

What would ‘One Piece’ be without Sanji, the cook of the Baratie who satisfies Luffy, Zoro, and the rest’s voracious hunger? He was the fifth member to join the crew, dreams of finding the All Blue, and if you receive a kick from him, you might not live to tell the tale. But what if we told you that everything you know about Sanji could be different… starting with his very name?

Family, today we eat

On September 21, 1999, when ‘One Piece’ had already been successful for two years, ‘Naruto‘ premiered in Shonen Jump. Masashi Kishimoto’s manga was an immediate hit, and during its 15 years of publication, it had a fraternal rivalry with Eiichiro Oda’s work as the most beloved by readers. What we didn’t know is that without the ninjas of the Hidden Leaf Village, we would have never had Sanji.

You see, when designing him, Oda intended for Sanji to be like Mr. Pink from ‘Reservoir Dogs‘: a dark-skinned gunslinger who was named, indeed, Naruto. Interestingly, Sanji appeared a year before Kishimoto’s series, but Oda had already been informed that it would begin soon and would be a long-running series, so he decided to be gracious.

Sanji was one of the characters that underwent significant changes when brought to the anime… or at least in the version that 4Kids aired in the United States, where they censored the cigarette he always has in his mouth and replaced it with a lollipop. Eiichiro Oda found this so amusing that years later, when Sanji had a clone, he had him lick a lollipop to differentiate them.

There’s very little time left to see how Sanji behaves in live action in the Netflix series, played by Taz Skylar, but we can’t contain our excitement. Will there be any reference to his original concept as Naruto? Who knows.

Trouble in Konoha: Boruto’s Anticipated Return Met with Mixed Reactions

Boruto returns with a design and name change after a four-month hiatus that seems to be taking the story to darker grounds.

It is common for manga to go on hiatus when they become very long. Mangakas hardly have any days off, let alone vacations, and when they are about to embark on a new stage, they need time to think and put everything in order. New designs, new narrative lines, and how to make everything fit require not only time but also the mental space to do it under the right conditions. That’s why, even though it might be annoying, hiatuses are a necessary part of the mangaka’s work.

As die-hard fans might already know, Boruto has been on a four-month hiatus. That hiatus ends this very week, as the next manga chapter, Chapter 81, will be published on August 20th in issue number 10 of V-Jump. However, there might be some news that won’t thrill some of the fans.

First of all, its name is going to change. If until now it was called Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, its name will now become Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. This is because starting from Chapter 81, a new saga of the manga will begin after a significant time skip. This has led to a redesign of the characters, who are now more grown-up, and which has shown us a Boruto who, at best, doesn’t seem to have had an easy time during the period when we haven’t known anything about him.

For those in need of a memory refresher or who aren’t familiar with the events up to this point in Boruto, here’s a brief summary, but be warned, it’s full of spoilers. Kawaki, Naruto’s adopted son, rewrites Konoha’s history by pretending to be Naruto’s true heir, leading everyone to believe that Boruto killed Naruto using Eida’s powers. On another note, Sarada Uchiha, after unlocking the Mangekyo Sharingan, seeks her father’s help to rescue Boruto from the dire situation he’s in. Considering that this is where the series left off before the hiatus, it’s expected that this will be the first issue addressed in Chapter 81.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex can be read for free on the Shueisha app called Manga Plus. As mentioned before, the chapter will be available on August 20th, Sunday, around 5 in the evening. So, we won’t have to wait much longer to see what unfolds with Boruto, Naruto’s legacy, and Kawaki’s sinister plot.

Revisiting an Anime Classic: Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of a Timeless Masterpiece

Studio Pierrot’s masterpiece turns twenty and they decide to celebrate it with four new episodes, and maybe something else yet to be announced?

If there’s one legendary anime for an entire generation, it’s Naruto. Serving as an introduction to anime for many people, Naruto holds the same significance for a generation as One Piece or Dragon Ball did for another. That’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise that so many people feel a special affection for one of the most famous manga ninjas. It’s also challenging to imagine a world where we can forget about him or his famous, albeit with ups and downs, anime. That’s why, now that Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the original manga, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the anime’s premiere, we can expect some form of celebration. And that’s exactly what will happen.

During the Anime Expo held in Los Angeles last weekend, it was confirmed that the classic Naruto series will have four new episodes. Although no specific details about their content were provided, it is expected to be completely new material, never before adapted into anime. What we do have is a release date: the first episode will premiere on September 3rd in Japan. While there is no information yet about an international release or the streaming platforms that will broadcast it, we can anticipate learning more in the coming weeks, as the premiere date draws near.

The most surprising thing of all is that there is still no news about a new season of its sequel, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. It has been airing since 2017, with its latest episode to date airing on March 26th. It is expected that we will receive more news about the future of Boruto at some point after the release of the new Naruto episodes. Especially considering that the Boruto manga is still ongoing and doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.

Because of that, if there ever was a perfect time to bring back Naruto with a bang, it is now. Boruto is successful, people want to see Naruto again, and undoubtedly, the four episodes will reignite interest in the character. Announcing a new movie or a remake of the original series would be a wise decision and would align perfectly with the celebration of the 20th anniversary, which so far hasn’t shown much in terms of celebrations. However, these are just speculations. The only confirmed thing at the moment are those four episodes, which will be coming soon, but we still don’t even know exactly what they will be about.
