Do you miss Bridgerton? Fear not, because the German series The Empress, a fascinating romantic and historical story, has been renewed by Netflix for a third and final season. This news comes just two months after the premiere of the second season, which was released in November 2024 and has captured the audience’s attention by exploring the personal conflicts and dilemmas of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, better known as Sisi, and her husband, Emperor Franz Joseph.
In its second season, the narrative focuses on Sisi’s struggle to conceive an heir, a theme that is key to the stability of the Habsburg Empire. The season also addresses the political and emotional tensions that emerge during the rebellion in Lombardy-Venetia. The season finale left viewers anxious, as Emperor Franz Joseph decides to join the battlefield, despite the opposition from his mother and other advisors. This act of nobility raises questions about his leadership ability and the loyalty among the characters, particularly with Maximilian, who feels betrayed after being demoted to viceroy.
Although the third season of The Empress has been confirmed, Netflix has not disclosed details about its plot or release date. This has led fans to speculate about future intrigues and developments in the story, leaving a palpable interest in the air. For now, the audience can enjoy the first two seasons available on Netflix, while they eagerly await the conclusion of this epic story.
As more information leaks about the upcoming installment, the fervor for this series, frequently compared to Bridgerton for its romantic appeal, will surely continue to rise.

Video game adaptations with great appeal delight the audience, and just ask The Last of Us. The Fallout series has proven to be a phenomenon in the streaming world, accumulating more than 11.950 billion minutes of viewing since its release. This impressive figure places it among the five most-watched original productions on streaming platforms during 2024, only surpassed by established titles like Bridgerton and The Boys. It is worth noting that Fallout has only one season of eight episodes, which amplifies the significance of its success when compared to other series that usually have multiple seasons to achieve similar figures.
According to Nielsen, Fallout has improved audience figures by more than 25% compared to The Rings of Power, which reached 9.4 billion minutes in its first year. This context highlights the potential and attraction that the adaptation of the iconic video game developed by Bethesda is exerting, led by Ella Purnell. The series, despite being new in the realm of science fiction productions, has quickly managed to capture the attention of a wide audience.
On the other hand, the filming of the second season of Fallout is taking place in the United States, and the confidence of the producers is palpable given the outstanding performance of the first installment. In the ranking of the most-watched series of 2023, only four original programs, all with more episodes, managed to surpass Fallout. This fact highlights the renewed interest in video game adaptations on the small screen.
As the production of the new season progresses, the series’ followers eagerly await how the story will unfold and what new adventures this post-apocalyptic universe will offer.

With this addition, Netflix offers its subscribers the opportunity to enjoy a total of 127 episodes of the anime.
The new seasons include New Challenger, released in 2009, and Rising, which premiered in 2013, allowing fans to continue the exciting narrative that has defined this work over the decades. Until now, the platform featured the first season, subtitled The Fighting!, with 76 episodes that had left many viewers wanting more. Now, thanks to this new release, users can embark on an extensive marathon of fights and emotions.
It is important to mention that although all seasons are available in Japanese with subtitles, only the first season has a Latin Spanish dub. This somewhat limits access for those who prefer to enjoy the anime in their native language, as none of the new additions offer a Castilian dub.
Although the latest animated series, Hajime no Ippo: Rising, ended in 2014, the manga continues its publication. Therefore, those interested in following the story beyond the animation can start reading from volume 61. Without a doubt, this is an excellent opportunity for both new viewers and those already familiar with the character to relive his journey inside and outside the ring.

So many years later and it still goes “Bazinga!” to other series. The successful sitcom The Big Bang Theory has ended the year 2024 as the most-watched title in streaming, according to a recent Nielsen report. The series, which originally aired on CBS, has achieved an impressive average of 265.5 episodes per viewer on the Max platform. This phenomenon translates to a total of 29.1 billion accumulated viewing minutes, reinforcing its status as one of the audience’s most beloved shows.
With a total of 281 episodes available for streaming, the series has managed to remain relevant even after ending in 2019. The Big Bang Theory focused on a group of scientist friends and their social interactions, and has been acclaimed for its clever script and its ability to connect with viewers through themes that combine science and comedy.
This large viewership figure not only highlights the power of nostalgia but also the way streaming platforms are changing content consumption. With the ability to watch episodes continuously, The Big Bang Theory has capitalized on this format, attracting both new audiences and those looking to relive classic moments from the series.
The popularity of the series reflects a broader trend in the entertainment industry, where titles with a strong component of humor and interpersonal relationships have found a privileged place in the hearts of viewers. Meanwhile, Nielsen’s results are expected to continue influencing programming and content acquisition decisions by streaming platforms in the future. And that will certainly be a full-fledged “Bazinga”.

Quentin Tarantino has expressed his disillusionment with the future of cinema, sharing his perspective on the negative impact that streaming has had on theatrical releases. During a conversation at the Sundance Festival 2025, the iconic director mentioned that theatrical releases have become fleeting, with films now being overshadowed by their availability on streaming platforms within weeks. “I didn’t get into this for diminishing returns,” he asserted.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the recent WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes have contributed to a bleak landscape for the production and distribution of content in film and television. These circumstances have led to a contraction in the industry, affecting everyone from actors to catering companies and media covering entertainment.
Tarantino also announced that his next film, provisionally titled The Movie Critic, will be his last work on the big screen, which has sparked speculation about his legacy. Although it is rumored that Brad Pitt might star in the film as a film critic, no further concrete details about the project have been given.
Theater: the outlet for an unsatisfied genius
The director, who has mentioned that he feels satisfied with his career, addressed his growing interest in theater, describing it as “the last frontier.” Unlike making movies, Tarantino argues that theater offers a unique experience, as it captures the audience’s attention without the possibility of being recorded or shared.
While Tarantino shares a pessimistic view of the state of cinema, his contemporary Martin Scorsese has offered a contrasting perspective. Scorsese has criticized the current trend towards high-budget films, but he has also indicated that his narrative approach might differ from Tarantino’s. “We are built differently,” he noted, emphasizing that each director responds to the industry uniquely.
Nowadays, it’s a habitual practice: if you want to watch a movie, you sit in front of the TV, press a button, and have an endless streaming catalog to spend two hours choosing what to enjoy. And then, maybe, watching what you choose if it hasn’t gotten too late. However, there was a time when going online and watching movies was crazy. Nowadays, it’s a common habit: if you want to watch a movie, you sit in front of the television, press a button, and you have an endless streaming catalog to spend two hours choosing what to enjoy. And then, maybe, watching what you choose if it hasn’t gotten too late. However, there was a time when going online and watching movies was crazy. You either went to the theaters, the video rental stores, or waited for them to air on TV with a thousand commercial breaks. There was no other option, right?
Imagine: Netflix started its video streaming tests in January 2007, after ten years of being an online video rental service (literally), and before it, there were only other small early attempts like iTunes, which allowed you to pay to download shows and series (and in 2005 it was an incredible novelty), Amazon Unbox (the precursor to Prime Video, in 2006) or, of course, YouTube, in early 2005. But, what if I told you that twelve years before the first video was launched on YouTube, a movie was already streamed? However, no matter how much you guess, you will never figure out which one it is.
Let’s look back to 1993, when Reed Hastings had just created his first company, Pure Software, and Jeff Bezos was just another person in an investment fund. Particularly until May 22, when a few computers -less than a hundred, certainly- gathered at night to watch the first movie ever broadcast on the Internet. Its name, Wax or the Discovery of Television Among the Bees. See? I told you that even trying for a thousand years you wouldn’t guess it.
After its release in 1991, this 85-minute video art film gained a certain cult following, thanks in part to the popularity of its director, artist David Blair. It became so successful that even after being shown in theaters in the United States (26 theaters, to be precise), it reached as far as Australia or Japan. It wouldn’t be an achievement for, say, Sonic 3, but it certainly was for such a small film with more intentions of being displayed in a museum than in a commercial theater.
Ah! In case you’re curious, it’s a critique of the Gulf War (and all wars, really) set in New Mexico, back in 1983, when a weapons designer inherits Mesopotamian bees from his grandfather. To showcase this seemingly disconnected madness, Blair mixed digital animation, found footage, and live action. And, of course, thanks to its cult success, it ended up appearing on VHS, at which point scientists took the opportunity to finally stream it completely free to anyone who wanted (and could) connect to the Internet. Remember, this was even before Windows 95! It wasn’t as easy as it seemed!
At Two Frames Per Second
To be able to broadcast it on the Internet, Blair himself had to remove all the color, add grain, make it blurrier, allow the audio to occasionally go mute… and reduce the usual 24 frames per second to just two. That is, two images were seen per second, preventing the human eye from making the connection between still image and movement. To do this, he used a film production studio in Manhattan, pressed “Play” on a VHS player, and connected it to a computer that converted it to digital, then showed it to the Internet.
Okay, yes, it wasn’t 4K, nor did it have Dolby Surround sound, nor, beyond the historical moment, was it something that most people really wanted to see. And not only did it happen, paving the way for the then-millionaire cable companies to go digital, but it gave a small glimpse of what the future was going to be, in the same way that those first televisions received crude live silent broadcasts of theater plays. Little by little.
It took another five years, until 1998, to see the first real video streaming service. It was called iTV, operated only in Hong Kong, cost 20 euros a month, and on a full weekend, it took 45 minutes to start playing hit movies like Batman and Robin. With these ups and downs, you can imagine what happened to them shortly after. Netflix was not the first, but at least it knew how to learn from Wax or the Discovery of Television Among the Bees and other services that tried to capitalize on their success without much of it. And indeed, all past times were, definitely and although our nostalgia opposes it, a little bit shabbier.

We will put on suits again. NBCUniversal has taken a big step in expanding its successful Suits universe by releasing the first trailer for its new spin-off, titled Suits: LA. This new installment, which follows the formula of intrigue and legal drama that made the original series popular, focuses on the life of Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York played by the well-known actor Stephen Amell. Black, after reinventing himself in the sunny city of Los Angeles, now represents powerful clients, promising to take viewers to a new level of legal tension and unexpected plot twists.
The series Suits: LA is set in a world where power and justice collide in a competitive environment, reflecting the true consequences of taking legal risks in the world of entertainment and politics. Stephen Amell, known for his role in the series Arrow, not only brings his acting experience but is also expected to provide a new perspective to the narrative, attracting both old Suits fans and new viewers.
With its premiere scheduled for February 23 on NBC (and later on streaming, of course), Suits: LA positions itself as one of the most anticipated releases of the season. The trailer reveals a darker and more complex tone that could bring a renewed air to the franchise, which has generated great expectations among fans.
Furthermore, knowing NBCUniversal’s tendency to expand its successful IPs, it is not far-fetched to think that Suits: LA could open the door to more stories in this universe, although for now only these initial plans have been confirmed.

The Dragon Ball Daima series continues to generate great excitement among fans, as Goku and his group continue their quest for the Dragon Balls to regain their adult bodies. After weeks of exploring the Demon Realm, the story seems to be nearing its conclusion, and interest has grown with recent plot twists, such as Vegeta’s new transformation.
Since the series was announced, there has been a wave of rumors about its length. Initially, it was speculated that Dragon Ball Daima would have between 12 and 25 episodes. However, recent leaks, apparently originating from Hulu, have confirmed that the series will consist of a total of 20 episodes, putting an end to the uncertainty surrounding its length. Hulu, however, was involved in a minor stir by incorrectly detailing the release date of the final episode, which is scheduled for February 28.
This outcome seems to be aligned with the expectations of the followers, given that Dragon Ball Daima is set in a limited chronological period between the Z and Super series, which restricts its possibilities for extension. As reports from Anime Hunch indicate, the series is expected to conclude satisfactorily, considering the current narrative and its focus on the characters, especially given the return of beloved protagonists and how they intertwine with their past adventures.
All of this should be taken with a grain of salt
Despite Hulu’s confirmation, it is wise to remember that there has not yet been an official announcement from Toei Animation or the broadcasting platforms, so the information should be taken with caution. However, as Dragon Ball Daima progresses, it becomes clear that an exciting conclusion is on the horizon for fans of this iconic franchise.

The Room Next Door, one of Almodóvar’s most celebrated films
Since its premiere at the Venice Festival, where it won the prestigious Golden Lion, The Room Next Door has been well received by both critics and audiences. Including us. The plot revolves around the complex friendship between Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton), two women who reunite after a dramatic event that changes the course of their lives. Critics have highlighted Almodóvar’s ability to explore emotions and routines through a narrative that manages to be both sweet and tragic.
The praise for Almodóvar’s cinematography is resounding. And it’s no wonder. Less grandiloquent, more subtle, here we see a more restrained Almodóvar, who prefers to play with the more delicate aspects of cinematography. A stylistic evolution that highlights his ability to offer deep reflections on human dignity at all stages of life.
Starting January 17, 2025, The Room Next Door is available on the streaming platform Movistar Plus+. Those interested in watching the movie can subscribe for 9.99 euros per month, which will allow them to access not only this work by Almodóvar but also a varied selection of films and TV series.

According to statements from its director, Adam McKay, the work has been seen by almost 500 million viewers, although Netflix has shared data only from the first 91 days of its release.
In a recent interview with NME, McKay discussed the film’s impact on climate change, highlighting its “monumental importance” within the current landscape. Despite its success in terms of viewership, the director also lamented the negative critical reception, stating that some criticisms of the film are “completely ridiculous”. This controversy is not new, as the director has faced both praise and criticism since the film’s release.
Don’t Look Up, starring renowned actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, is a satire that addresses inaction in the face of the climate crisis. Although McKay admits that Netflix will probably not reveal all the data about the film’s success, his claims suggest a much greater impact than has been officially recognized.
Netflix does not escape hiding and lying
This situation raises a question about how viewing data can influence the public perception of a film project. The lack of transparency from streaming platforms like Netflix could lead to speculation about the real popularity of their content, inviting a broader debate on how success is measured in the digital age. With a cinematic future that includes anticipated productions for 2025, the focus of the audience and critics continues to evolve in a context where entertainment increasingly intertwines with social issues.
