However, 19 achievements that depended on online services that are no longer available have also been removed, clearing the path for those looking to complete the game.

Splinter Cell is not dead, just on a break

Splinter Cell: Blacklist, originally released in August 2013, is the latest main title in the stealth series that has made a mark in the video game industry. In December 2021, Ubisoft announced a remake of the original installment, which has sparked interest among fans. This project is being developed by Ubisoft Toronto, which previously worked on Blacklist and Far Cry 6. With the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Splinter Cell in 2022, the company revealed some details about the remake, including concept art and new AI behaviors for enemies, although since then, communication has been scarce.

In the realm of the Splinter Cell universe expansion, several projects were announced that did not come to fruition. A virtual reality title was canceled in 2022, but an audio series with eight episodes was released that same year. On the other hand, a movie based on the franchise that could have featured Tom Hardy as Sam Fisher was also canceled. However, fans can look forward to a series titled Splinter Cell: Deathwatch on Netflix, where Liev Schreiber will voice the iconic character instead of Michael Ironside.

Ubisoft has revealed its latest title, Might & Magic: Fates, a free collectible card game that incorporates elements of blockchain and non-fungible tokens. Despite the resistance it has encountered in certain sectors of the gaming community due to its focus on Web3 technology, the company continues to explore ways to integrate these new mechanisms into its releases.

An announcement with a more than questionable audience

Might & Magic: Fates, developed in collaboration with Immutable, will allow players to collect cards, build decks, and engage in strategic duels where adaptation and tactics will be key to victory. The game promises a rich experience in the Might & Magic universe, combining mythical creatures, epic heroes, and spells, which could attract fans of the franchise.

Although the title will feature an optional Web3 layer that will enable card trading through the blockchain, Ubisoft assures that this will not be a requirement to fully enjoy the title. According to their Frequently Asked Questions section, players will still be able to expand their collection and enjoy all the game mechanics without the need to make transactions on the blockchain, emphasizing that this integration is completely optional and does not provide any competitive advantage.

The company has announced that Might & Magic: Fates will be available “soon” for Android and iOS mobile devices, and later for PC, which will allow access to a larger audience. In addition, Ubisoft is in the process of developing another title within the saga, Might & Magic: Olden Era, which will be released in early access during the summer, increasing expectations among fans.

Ubisoft launches the free app Chroma to improve the accessibility of video games

Ubisoft has announced the public availability of Chroma, a tool designed to help developers create video games accessible to people with color blindness, after several years of internal development.

This advance highlights the company’s commitment to promoting inclusion in the video game industry, where it is estimated that 1 in 12 men (8%) and 1 in 200 women (0.5%) suffer from some form of color blindness, according to the nonprofit organization Colour Blind Awareness.

Chroma allows developers to replicate the experience of colorblind players in real time by applying a filter over the screen without affecting game performance.

Introducing Chroma, our powerful colorblind simulation tool, now open to everyone!

— Ubisoft (@Ubisoft) April 14, 2025

Ubisoft encourages developers to use Chroma to improve accessibility for colorblind individuals

Unlike other tools that require static images or specific configurations, Chroma makes it easy to monitor games while they are actually being played, thus providing immediate and meaningful feedback.

The tool is compatible with multiple screens and offers customization options, in addition to allowing control through shortcut keys.

According to David Tisserand, accessibility director at Ubisoft, Chroma has proven to be effective in assessing the accessibility of their games for colorblind players, allowing for a much more agile and thorough analysis than in the past. “We believe that accessibility is a journey, not a race, and we are excited to share Chroma with the entire industry,” Tisserand stated.

Interested developers can access Chroma on its GitHub page, where it is published under the Apache 2.0 license. This license encourages collaborative development of open-source software products, allowing others to contribute to its continuous improvement.

Ubisoft encourages other developers to use this tool and join the initiative to make video games more accessible for everyone.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, the latest title in Ubisoft’s iconic saga, has made its debut on mobile devices, specifically for Android, just a year and three months after its release on next-gen consoles. This 2.5D metroidvania-style game combines action and exploration in an environment that recalls the franchise’s roots, offering players the chance to enjoy a complete experience on small screens.

An excellent game for which you need a controller

In The Lost Crown, players take control of Sargon, a hero tasked with rescuing a prince in a cursed city filled with monsters. The game’s mechanics focus on challenging combat that demands dodging skills, precise counterattacks, and time manipulation, keeping players in constant tension during each encounter.

Ubisoft has perfectly adapted the entire experience of the original game for its mobile version, allowing users to enjoy a campaign that is estimated to last around 18 hours. In addition, the game’s map is extensive and full of secrets to discover, ensuring that fans of the metroidvania genre will find plenty of content to explore.

For those who prefer to play with touch controls, Ubisoft has implemented customization options that enhance the experience, although using a controller is recommended for smoother gameplay. Among these settings are automatic locking, the use of potions, and automatic attacks, which are especially useful in the more difficult battles.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has received a positive reception from critics and fans, highlighting its potential on mobile platforms. The title is now available on Google Play Store, including a free trial, inviting new players to dive into this nostalgic return of the saga.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has captivated millions of players, transporting them to feudal Japan with a richly detailed open world, stealth mechanics, and samurai combat. Since its release, Ubisoft has tirelessly worked on updating the title to provide a more satisfying experience, dedicating significant resources to optimize the PlayStation 5 Pro version, which has been labeled as “the ultimate console experience.”

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, better on PlayStation

Pierre Fortin, technical director of Ubisoft, stated in a statement on the PlayStation blog that the new version makes the most of the PS5 Pro hardware, offering performance that rivals that of a high-end PC. This statement comes at a time when the PS5 Pro is offered at a price of 799 euros, which could be more affordable than purchasing a computer with the specifications suitable for playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Ultra.

Digital Foundry has praised the optimization done on the PS5 Pro, considering it to be “one of the best updates” within the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The latest patch introduced significant improvements in visual quality, incorporating upscaling technology and ray tracing, elevating performance to 40 FPS and providing a smoother and more visually appealing experience. Previously, the version featured temporal anti-aliasing (TAA), but the advancement with the new Reflective Screen Space Reflections (PSSR) system promises a more stable image with fewer artifacts.

Fortin highlighted the collaboration with Sony to optimize the performance of the PS5 Pro, which allowed for the updating of the necessary parameters to make the most of the console’s capabilities. Compared to previous versions, the results are evident and demonstrate Ubisoft’s commitment to providing the best possible experience.

Ubisoft is facing growing controversy after the removal of the game The Crew from users’ accounts without prior notice, a move that has been perceived as a disrespect towards consumers. Players are suing the company, arguing that when they purchased the title, they believed they would obtain eternal access rights and not just a limited license. This case highlights the urgent need for clear regulations regarding consumer rights in the digital realm, similar to what happens with physical products.

Ubisoft insists that they have done everything according to the law

In 2024, Ubisoft shut down the servers for The Crew, which left players who had paid for the game unable to access it. The company claims that consumers were adequately informed that they were purchasing a limited license, not unlimited rights to the content. However, the plaintiffs have accused Ubisoft of violating several laws, including the False Advertising Law and the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, alleging that they were misled into believing they had perpetual access to the game.

The court will have to decide whether Ubisoft’s claim that it only sold limited licenses is valid and whether there is a violation of consumer protection laws. The ruling of the trial could set a significant precedent on how property rights are managed in the digital realm and potentially favor consumers, who continue to advocate for greater clarity and rights in their digital purchases.

The outcome of this case is of utmost importance at a time when the video game industry is navigating the still turbulent waters of digitalization. Players expect that laws will eventually support their right to own the digital content they purchase, similar to what happens with physical goods, which could transform the relationship between consumers and developers in the future.

The recent release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has unleashed a wave of enthusiasm in the gaming community, surpassing two million players in just two days, making it one of the most significant successes of the franchise. This achievement not only eclipses previous titles like Odyssey and Origins, but also reflects unprecedented media attention, even leading ministers and prominent figures in Japan to comment on the representation of characters and the controversy surrounding the destruction of cultural sanctuaries.

A game that takes advantage of the absurdity of the controversy

The controversy has created a favorable context for the emergence of Yasuke Simulator, an indie game released on the same day as Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Developed by HistoryAccurateDevelopers, this title offers a satirical take on the debate over historical representation, allowing players to experience absurdities such as the use of firearms in feudal Japan. With an initial price of 3.99 euros, but with a discount bringing it down to 3.39 euros, this game has captured the attention of many users, accumulating “extremely positive” reviews on the Steam platform.

The criticisms have united fans and detractors of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as many see Yasuke Simulator as a way to mock Ubisoft and the controversies surrounding the main game. The reviews, filled with humor and sarcasm, highlight the absurd nature of the simulator and the creativity of its developers, leveraging public outrage and social criticism as a basis for their content. A notable example is the review by a user known as Manocheese, which has gone viral for its ability to cleverly weave these themes together.

Thus, the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the impact of Yasuke Simulator reflect a turning point in the universe of video games, where social criticism and satire intertwine with entertainment, generating a unique dialogue between creators, players, and critics.

The first update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, known as 1.0.1, is now available and brings with it a relatively small list of fixes, suggesting that there have been no significant crises since its launch. Despite the mixed reviews facing many recent releases, the absence of serious issues can be considered a notable achievement in the current video game industry.

A heavy update for what it brings

The size of the update is remarkably large, with over 7 GB on PC, 1.4 GB on PS5, and 9 GB on Xbox Series X/S and Mac. This has led to speculation about the amount of data that has been fixed or added in this first revision of the game.

Ubisoft has also shared that Shadows has had the second best launch in the history of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, only surpassed by Valhalla. It is important to remember that the launch of Valhalla was set against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, when many players were at home, which likely influenced its sales figures. This context opens the door for Shadows to be considered the true giant, free from those special circumstances.

However, despite these promising numbers, Ubisoft has not yet provided specific details about actual sales. This has generated excitement and some anticipation among the game’s followers, which will lead many to pay attention to the company’s upcoming financial call, scheduled for May. In that call, figures are expected that could significantly impact Ubisoft’s future decisions and strategies.

Meanwhile, the gaming community continues to enjoy the game’s mechanics and prepares to unlock new skills, weapons, and gear, while expanding their experience with this title in the iconic saga.

Despite the controversy that preceded its release, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has dazzled critics and players with a remarkably positive reception. Initial complaints mainly focused on the inclusion of a black samurai in the narrative, which sparked a wave of outrage in certain sectors of the gaming community. However, after the release, reviews and the number of players have been very favorable, evidencing that the disproportionate reaction on social media did not translate into a real response among the majority of players.

A controversy that doesn’t seem to have any basis

The well-known YouTuber FightinCowboy also became a prominent advocate for the game, during a recent live stream, he urged viewers to set aside racist comments and foster an environment of respect. His call to action resonated with many, highlighting that the outrage over the representation of diverse races and sexual orientations in video games is often fueled by a small group of “grifters” who monetize that discontent.

“Normally, players who are not on social media are unaware of this controversy,” mentioned FightinCowboy, suggesting that the anger expressed online is more a phenomenon of these platforms than a real concern among most players. This comment underscores that, while the gaming community faces increasing toxicity due to the inclusion of diverse characters, the actual impact of these controversies may be minimal outside of this digital ecosystem.

As Assassin’s Creed Shadows establishes itself as a commercial success, the debate on how developers and the media should handle incendiary criticism is being raised again. With a generally favorable response and strong support from influential figures like FightinCowboy, it seems that the negative narrative leading up to the launch may be losing its effect.

In light of the controversy surrounding the romances in Assassin's Creed Shadows, the developers are clear: they are optional

The highly anticipated title from Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is now available and has generated considerable conversation around its optional romance features. With protagonists Yasuke and Naoe, the game offers several romantic options that depend on whether the Canon mode is activated. This mode, when enabled, removes all romantic interactions, allowing players who prefer to focus on the main narrative to enjoy without distractions.

There are those who do not like romance in video games

The romance mechanics in Shadows are diverse, including the possibility for Yasuke and Naoe to explore connections with characters of different genders, as well as with a non-binary character. However, the inclusion of these options has received criticism from some sectors on the internet, who believe that diversity in relationships is unnecessary. In response, Ubisoft has reminded that all romantic interactions are optional and that players have total control over their gaming experience.

Ubisoft’s words on the matter are clear: “Let’s remember the fourth principle of the Creed: flirting in role-playing games is always optional.” In this regard, the developers emphasize that the main focus of video games is fun, and romantic relationships are just one of the many facets that some players enjoy. For those who are not interested in romantic content, they can simply play with the Canon mode active, which completely removes flirting options and related dialogue choices.

At the end of the day, the new installment of Assassin’s Creed aims to provide an enriching experience through multiple elements, including its narrative and customization options, without forcing anyone to engage in aspects that do not interest them. With elements of diversity and the freedom of choice always present, Ubisoft continues to demonstrate its commitment to inclusive entertainment in video games. And it seems that this is proving to be very beneficial for them in terms of sales.
