A group of parkour experts analyzes Assassin's Creed Shadows and has a clear conclusion

The Assassin’s Creed video games have been an entry point for many into the world of parkour, although their representation is far from accurate. In a recent episode of the series Reality Check, parkour athletes Toby Segar and Benj Cave from the Storror team analyzed the execution of the maneuvers in the games, highlighting inconsistencies in the physics and biomechanics of the movements. According to Toby, the leaps of faith that characterize the series could be feasible in real life, but he warned that without perfect execution, they could result in serious injuries. According to Toby, the leaps of faith that characterize the series could be feasible in real life, but he warned that, without perfect execution, they could result in serious injuries.

An interesting representation, but not without problems

The athletes emphasized that, while Assassin’s Creed presents a spectacular vision of parkour, the reality of this discipline involves meticulous planning, unlike the improvisation shown in the game. Toby and Benj pointed out that the protagonists seem to possess inhuman endurance and skill, which contradicts the structured and calculated nature of true parkour.

In particular, the representation of the character Yasuke in the game was subject to criticism. The choice to animate movements like the alpine knee reveals a lack of attention to the subtleties of parkour, according to athletes. While these movements reflect his own character design, Benj explained that such a technique is a fundamental mistake in the practice of parkour, as it involves unnecessary risk to joint health. However, that does not detract from the fact that the game also does not aim to be realistic, as the existence of the hidden blade reminds us.

On the other hand, the Storror team is working on a parkour simulator that will be released in early access in March, which could mark a step towards a more faithful representation of the discipline. Parkour and video game enthusiasts will be able to closely follow this development and other related content through platforms like Instagram and YouTube, where the team shares their innovative vision of this sport.

Valve reveals the gaming hours on Steam Deck during 2024 and they are staggering

In an impressive year-end report, Valve has revealed that Steam Deck players accumulated 330 million hours of gameplay during 2024, representing a remarkable 64% increase compared to the previous year. This growth underscores the potential of this portable device in a market that is still considered somewhat niche, but is beginning to attract the attention of major game developers.

More and more studies support Steam’s proposal

Developers like Square Enix and Ubisoft have officially begun to support the compatibility of their titles with Steam Deck, highlighting the importance of this platform. For example, Square Enix announced the compatibility of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, while Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be verified on the device. This move suggests a shift in publishers’ perception towards the growth of the portable PC market.

Valve also celebrated the arrival of SteamOS on the Lenovo Go S, a step that marks the beginning of a possible wave of third-party portable devices “powered by SteamOS.” Additionally, the company has mentioned the possibility of installing SteamOS on other portable devices such as the ROG Ally X or the latest version of the MSI Claw, which would further expand options for gamers. According to Valve, its investments in user interface, Linux compatibility, and input technology will benefit both developers and gamers.

Despite the expectations surrounding the Steam Deck 2, Valve continues to dominate the market thanks to its platform and game store. With an expanding ecosystem, future hardware developments look promising, and players will be able to enjoy their game libraries in a variety of contexts, whether at home, at the airport, or in the garden.

Ubisoft announces a new Rainbow Six and we tell you what you need to know to participate in the beta

Ubisoft has announced the release of Rainbow Six Siege X, a free to play version of its popular game, aimed at integrating microtransactions as the main source of income. This decision follows a trend in the video game industry, where the free to play model has proven to be economically attractive, as seen in the success of Fortnite and other similar titles.

Since its premiere in 2014 during E3, Rainbow Six Siege has established itself as one of the pillars of the gaming community, with millions of players worldwide and a robust eSports scene. However, Ubisoft has previously attempted to turn other games, such as For Honor and Fall Guys, into sustainably successful services. With Rainbow Six Siege X, the company aims to finally replicate the microtransaction revenue model that has successfully attracted players and generated significant profits.

The game’s mechanics will focus on allowing players to download the title for free and enjoy cooperative raids and defenses. Microtransactions will primarily be aimed at the purchase of cosmetic items, with the hope that players will invest in customizations for their operators, thus surpassing the revenue obtained from the sale of standalone games.

What you need to know to participate in the closed beta

For those interested in participating in the closed beta, it started on October 13 and ends on October 19. Players will need to receive a drop through Twitch, which will allow them to access the beta and try the game on their systems, whether PS5, Xbox, or PC. This approach not only aims to evaluate the game’s performance but also to establish a direct connection with the player community before its official launch.

Ubisoft expects that Rainbow Six Siege X will not only attract new players, but also boost the company’s profitability in the coming years, in an increasingly competitive market where the microtransaction model is at the forefront.

Assassin's Creed Shadows will work on Steam Deck at launch, although not without caveats

Ubisoft has confirmed that its upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, will run on Steam Deck from its launch, an update that has surprised many, as last month the company had ruled out the possibility of support for Valve’s device, citing that it was “below our minimum PC specifications.” However, it seems that the studio has conducted tests and adjustments that have allowed the game to run satisfactorily on the platform, although it is warned that the visual quality may not reach the optimal standard.

The Steam Deck, a console that still has a lot to say

The launch of the Steam Deck OLED in November 2023 has demonstrated the potential of this device, with impressive performance running demanding titles like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. These games have received the “Verified” rating on Steam Deck, highlighting the hardware’s ability to handle intensive gaming experiences, which raises expectations about the performance of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

However, doubts persist about the quality of the gaming experience on Steam Deck. Although the title may work, many large-scale games, like the ones mentioned, may present visual issues on smaller screens, which could affect the overall experience. The concern is that playing could make the graphic quality resemble more of a moving Claude Monet painting than a modern video game, presenting blurry images and an suboptimal frame rate.

On the other hand, the community of players who exclusively use Steam Deck as their primary device continues to grow. This highlights the importance of developers and studios catering to this expanding market. Although it has not yet been determined whether Assassin’s Creed Shadows will become one of the best games for Steam Deck, the availability of the title is a positive step towards including the portable audience in the offering of major titles. According to the author, the device is ideal for indie games, CRPGs, and titles like Vampire Survivors. And it seems that it will still allow us to use the hidden blade on it.

Ubisoft is facing increasing pressure from its minority shareholder AJ Investments, which describes the company as “horribly mismanaged” and demands drastic changes in its leadership. In a recent statement, the CEO of AJ Investments, Juraj Krupa, criticized Ubisoft’s lack of communication regarding alleged acquisition talks with industry giants like Microsoft and EA. Krupa argues that this lack of transparency has harmed the company’s stock value, fundamentally affecting retail investors.

AJ Investments believes that things are not being done correctly

As a result of accumulated frustration, AJ Investments plans to organize a protest at Ubisoft’s office in Paris to raise its concerns about the company’s management. The firm has also expressed that Ubisoft needs to present a clear roadmap for its recovery, especially after the announcement of the delay of the highly anticipated release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows until March 20, which has caused an additional decrease in stock value.

Ubisoft, for its part, has reiterated that it is in a process of strategic review regarding transformation and capital options, but it does not plan to make public announcements until there are concrete developments. Among the rumors circulating, it is mentioned that it could be in talks with Tencent about financing, although the details are not clear at this time. Krupa also indicated that if Ubisoft’s strategic review leads to an outcome that increases shareholder value, the protest could be canceled.

Last year has been tumultuous for Ubisoft, marked by massive layoffs, studio closures, and the cancellation of projects like XDefiant. The pressure from investors could pose a turning point for the company, which faces the challenge of adapting to a rapidly evolving market environment.

The new installment of the iconic assassin saga promises to revive the hidden blade assassination mechanics, an element that has been highly appreciated by fans and that has been absent in the latest installments since Assassin’s Creed Unity, released in 2014.

A game that seeks to recapture the feelings of the classic Assassin’s Creed

The community of followers has responded strongly, registering nearly 6000 positive votes on social media and dedicated forums. Players have enthusiastically expressed their joy for the return of these classic mechanics, commenting that “I always loved walking kills. They are fluid and impressive,” indicating a palpable desire for a return to the essence that characterized the series in its early days.

From the first impressions, both from the press and players, significant improvements in design, combat, exploration, and parkour aspects stand out. Alejandro Pascual, a fellow journalist, commented that “the feeling I am left with after my playtime with Shadows is very positive,” highlighting the well-designed and detailed approach that Ubisoft has incorporated into the game.

Additionally, Ubisoft has already begun to generate excitement around the first DLC, hinting that a more chilling adventure will take place that will enrich the player’s experience. With these updates, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” not only aims to satisfy its loyal followers but also to attract new players looking for a mix of nostalgia and innovation in their gaming experiences.

Ubisoft has shared details about the performance modes for its upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which will be released on March 20, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. According to an article published on the official PlayStation blog, the game will offer three display modes on the PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles: performance, fidelity, and balanced, all with upscaled 4K resolution.

A performance that is not too impressive even on PS5 Pro

In terms of frame rates, players can expect 60 fps in performance mode, 30 fps in fidelity mode, and 40 fps in balanced mode, the latter specifically designed for screens that support variable refresh rate and HDMI 2.1. These specifications aim to provide users with customized options to enjoy the game according to their preferences and available hardware.

One of the most notable features of the game is the use of ray tracing. In the performance mode of the PS5, ‘selective’ ray tracing will be applied, which limits global illumination to the Hideout, the game’s base of operations. In contrast, the PS5 Pro will offer ‘extended ray tracing’ in the fidelity and balanced modes, which will include full ray tracing support to calculate global illumination, covering both diffuse lighting and reflective surfaces throughout the entire game world.

However, it is still unclear whether players will be able to completely disable ray tracing to improve performance in the different game modes. Although ray tracing provides an interesting visual experience, many players would prefer to have a more solid performance base.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows aims to provide a visually rich experience, standing out for how it will leverage the hardware of the new generation. With its imminent release, the anticipation to see how these features develop continues to grow.

Ubisoft is preparing for the highly anticipated release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the latest chapter of the saga set in feudal Japan, scheduled for March 20. This release represents a kind of “last bullet” for the company, which has faced numerous delays and controversies on its way here. Users are eager to find out what this installment has in store and whether it meets the expectations set by its predecessors.

A changing launch hour depending on region and platform

Through a message on their official Twitter account, Ubisoft has shared the preload and launch times for the game. It is essential to note that these times vary by platform (Xbox, PlayStation, PC) and region. The Xbox version will have an earlier preload time compared to the PlayStation and PC versions, which has sparked speculation about the reasons for this difference. On the other hand, the Mac version will be available between March 19 at 15:00 (UTC) and March 20 at 14:00, depending on the region and time zone.

Despite the efforts of Ubisoft Quebec, the company has faced issues in the final phase of development, leading to the need for corrections in the release timeline and preload. These setbacks have generated uncertainty among fans, who hope the company will fulfill its promises of a flawless launch.

With the revelation of schedules and the context of challenges facing Ubisoft, the gaming community continues to wonder if Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be a worthy conclusion to the saga or if it will fall into the same traps as its predecessors. Expectations are high and the release date is approaching quickly.

There are concerns in the video game industry about the leaking of important titles before their release, as has recently happened with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This highly anticipated game has been the subject of comments following reports indicating that some physical copies have reached the hands of players, who attempted to share gameplay on streaming platforms. However, leaks are difficult to control for companies like Ubisoft, raising questions about the security of their releases.

Physical copies of the game have reached the hands of anonymous players

In recent hours, it has been confirmed that certain physical editions of the game could be purchased through the Facebook Marketplace, although now they all seem to have disappeared. This raises the possibility that it is a hoax, a common situation that often occurs in the digital environment when rumors and speculations circulate about highly anticipated releases.

Historically, the industry has faced challenges in preventing important titles from being compromised before their debut. Despite various security measures being implemented, leaks continue to be a recurring problem, especially when it comes to physical copies that are in circulation. This situation creates unease among developers, as players could experience the game’s content before its official release date, scheduled for March 20.

Additionally, it is anticipated that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will require a significant patch before its release. This suggests that the physical versions being distributed do not represent the final experience that players will be able to enjoy. It is reasonable to speculate that the disc version may be far from the definitive one, raising concerns about the quality of the product that will reach stores.

Since its launch less than ten years ago, Fortnite has transformed the video game landscape, setting a new standard in the free-to-play business model. Epic Games has managed not only to maintain the interest of its player community but also to inspire other companies to adopt its approach of constant updates, iconic collaborations, and large events. However, this success has positioned Fortnite as the main obstacle for new releases in the industry, affecting both sales and user playtime.

According to Mat Piscatella, executive director of Circana, who shared his observations in a recent interview, a concerning 30% of gamers in the United States have no plans to buy any video games this year. This means that most fans are limited to acquiring one or two major titles a year, leaving ample room for free games like Fortnite and Warzone to dominate playtime and public attention.

Fortnite is not just a problem for other games as a service

Companies like Ubisoft and Sony are in a race to create their own games as a service that can emulate the phenomenon of Fortnite, despite the tough competition that this title presents. However, the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI in the fall of 2025 could represent a shift in the balance of power within the video game industry, although the actual impact of this new release remains uncertain.

With a legacy already established, Fortnite continues to set the standard for how video games are designed and monetized today. Brands have begun to recognize its potential through collaborations, a model that has become an essential part of the game. As the landscape evolves, the expectation is that developers will continue to seek ways to compete in an increasingly saturated market where they must face the titan of Epic Games.
