Elon Musk, self-proclaimed absolutist of free speech, has used his prominence on the social network X, a platform he controls, to ask his 227 million followers to cancel their Netflix subscriptions. In a span of three days, Musk has posted and shared at least 26 messages criticizing the popular streaming company, which has sparked a notable debate on social media about the impact of his influence.

Will the platform notice this boycott?

Musk’s calls to cancel Netflix are framed within his public stance on content regulation on digital platforms and his desire to promote what he considers greater freedom of expression. This move has been interpreted by some as a response to the perception that Netflix is moving away from certain values that Musk defends, although no specific details have been provided about which aspects of the platform’s content have bothered him.

Musk’s ability to mobilize a large number of followers instantly demonstrates the power that social media has in shaping opinions and business decisions. His strategy could have significant repercussions on the public perception of Netflix at a time when competition in the streaming sector is fierce. The growing polarization of content and the opinions of opinion leaders like Musk add a layer of complexity to the dynamics of the entertainment market.

As the confrontation between Musk and Netflix continues, questions arise about the future of digital platforms and their role in promoting or restricting freedom of expression. Some analysts point out that this situation may reflect a broader trend in which the powerful of social media become relevant players in the commercial and cultural sphere.

Twitter just died forever (or so Elon Musk thinks)

It is profoundly stupid to change a brand that had become an everyday word, given how complex that is. But now, his megalomaniac foolishness has taken a step further.

Elon Musk has been trying to make us believe that Twitter is called X for months. He has tried in a thousand possible ways: putting a giant luminous “X” on top of its headquarters, changing the logo, and even tweeting over and over again about X, just for his fans to tell him that they still call it Twitter. It is deeply stupid to change a brand that had become an everyday word, with how complex that is. But now, his megalomaniac foolishness has taken a step further.

X does not mark the place

If you try to access the classic twitter.com today, the website will automatically redirect you to x.com, completing the most absurd rebranding ever made. Practically all the comments on Musk’s tweet announcing the definitive migration of the entire social network say the same thing: no matter how much the millionaire thinks he has severed the head of Twitter, we will all continue to call it Twitter. Because that’s what it is.

I think all of us who continue to use this ship that clearly is taking on water and is in absolute decline can say the same: for some time now, Twitter has been filled with porn bots, fascism runs rampant, and none of the decisions made by the billionaire have led to anything good. Perhaps we still call it Twitter for one reason only: it reminds us that, at some point, we had a good time there.

The European Union issues an ultimatum to Elon Musk: put an end to fake news on Twitter

Thierry Breton, Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, has warned about the role that X (Twitter) is playing in the spread of hoaxes about the conflict.

The European digital landscape is shaken following the recent Hamas attack on Israel. Thierry Breton, Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, has raised concerns about the role X (Twitter) is playing in spreading misinformation about the conflict.

Through a letter published on the social network, Breton addresses Elon Musk, urging him to take action against the misinformation spreading within X (Twitter). As the war worsens, X has become the perfect platform for disseminating fake news and outright illegal content.

In the letter, Breton emphasizes the need to adhere to European regulations on digital services, especially regarding content moderation. As stated in the letter, Breton points out, “Following the terrorist attacks by Hamas against Israel, we have evidence that your platform is being used to disseminate illegal content and misinformation in the EU.”

In his letter, Breton focused on three of the most concerning issues: first, he asked X (Twitter) to be clearer about its content policies and to enforce them “consistently and diligently.” Next, he emphasized the need for X to act swiftly when alerted about the presence of illegal content. Lastly, he called for the implementation of “mitigation measures” to minimize the risks of misinformation.

In the years leading up to Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, the platform had become an indispensable tool for real-time information about breaking news and events. Questionable changes made by the magnate to the social network have rendered it, now known as X, ineffective for this purpose. Posts from those subscribed to X Premium now take priority, creating uncertainty about which information channels are genuinely reliable.

Elon Musk’s Controversial Move: Seizes Twitter Account Owned by User for 18 Years

What would happen now to @X, the person who chose that name 16 years ago?

If tomorrow they decided to rename Coca-Cola as “P” and Amazon as “J,” most likely, we would all think that their owners have gone completely crazy. However, there are those who support Elon Musk no matter what he does. In this case, he’s changing a brand that has become a part of everyday language (Twitter) into a letter (“X”) that means nothing to anyone. And since this incredibly strange declaration of intent, he hasn’t been able to stop putting his foot in his mouth for a single moment.

When on Monday he decided to irrevocably change the name (and intentions) of Twitter to transform it into a platform for audio, video, and payments, many doubts arose in people’s minds. Questions like: How would Twitter Videos be called now if XVideos is already taken? Why choose a name that already has copyright by Meta? How did he come up with changing the logo on the offices without permission from the city of San Francisco? And most importantly, what would happen to @X, the person who chose that username 16 years ago?

Gene X. Wang was the person behind the most coveted Twitter account for Musk, and he had been waiting for an email from Musk and his team since the name change was announced. And it arrived. However, they didn’t offer him any financial compensation or recognition of any kind. Musk, as a billionaire, believes that he can simply take what he thinks is his. In other words, they were going to take his username after fifteen years without any consideration.

The email, which came from the generic customer service address, also announced that his tweets -sorry, xeets- and followers would be transferred to a new account created specifically for him, with the charming username @x12345678998765 (although he’ll probably change it, of course). Apparently, Musk names his children with the same names as Twitter accounts.

In the end, Wang ended up writing on his new account, “All’s well that ends well,” suggesting that either he received some money from X, or at least he settled for not having his account completely deleted. His bio still says, “Very interesting times,” but deep down, he probably wishes for less interesting times and to still have the little blue bird. He is missed.
