Judge wants to use “Alexa” as evidence in murder trial

Could your smart device send you to jail?

Judge asks Alexa for help in murder trial

Alexa, can you solve this murder?

A New Hampshire judge overseeing a double murder trial has called on Amazon to release data from an Amazon Echo that was present during the crime. The judge is asking for partial records of the device, meaning that he is only seeking information that is relevant to the trial.

Amazon itself considers the recordings to be customer information and is refusing to release the recordings “without a valid and binding legal demand properly served on us.” This means that if the prosecution doesn’t obtain a warrant of some kind, Amazon will not willingly release the recordings. It should be noted that it’s possible that the Echo did not record anything about the murder, but we’ll never know for sure unless Amazon releases the information.

Amazon has a history of resisting attempts by the legal system to obtain data as evidence. Back in 2015, prosecutors similarly tried to get recordings from an Amazon Echo present during a murder. Amazon called upon their First Amendment rights to protect their data but eventually relented (the recordings ended up not being enough evidence to convict the suspect).

Over 39 million Americans have smart speakers in their homes. With so many smart speakers installed at home and in the workplace, some experts say these devices normalize the feeling of never being alone.

Though Amazon’s official stance is that Echo devices don’t record any sound until they hear the “wake” word (which on their devices is “Alexa”), we can never truly know if they are recording additional information. This gives Amazon a treasure trove of data, which is incredibly useful to them as they fine-tune their marketing algorithms to target specific people and get them to buy more stuff. And yet, Amazon refuses to release a tiny bit of that information that could potentially put a dangerous murderer behind bars. Again, the prosecutors aren’t requesting a detailed history of all recorded data on the Echo device, just the recordings of the night of the murder.

Amazon isn’t the only tech giant that withholds its data from the law. In 2015, Apple famously refused to unencrypt data from an iPhone used by one of the San Bernadino shooters for the FBI. Reactions to Apple’s decision were highly polarizing, with most tech giants like Twitter, Microsoft, and Facebook supporting Apple. Many feared that if Apple gave in and created FBI-exclusive iPhone encryption software, that they would abuse its power. In this case, the FBI was looking to access the shooter’s entire phone, while in the New Hampshire case the prosecution is only looking for recordings from the night of the murder.

What do you think Amazon should do? Let us know!

Inside Facebook’s battle against offensive content

Who decides what’s offensive? And how can Facebook filter all of it?

Facebook announced last month that it will begin implementing some new features aimed at helping users keep their feeds clear of bullying and harassment.

One new addition is that users now have the option to ask for a second review of content that has been reported for harassment or bullying. In the past, this option was only available for those reportedly in violation of the platform’s policies regarding sexual activity, hate speech, nudity, or graphic violence.

Now, alleged harassers can ask the moderators for a second review if they feel that their content was unfairly removed.

The changes are welcome, and include things like the ability to quickly delete or hide multiple comments at a time and added protection for public figures.

Still, knowing that the reviewers must look at roughly 10 million pieces of mostly unsavory content, we wonder if the process is getting better at all.

Here’s a bit more about where Facebook is at when it comes to improving the moderation process.

What we know about Facebook’s content review process

In recent months, there has been a ton of coverage on the topic of Facebook’s content moderation. From a RadioLab episode that dove deep into the company’s ever-changing and relatively mysterious policies to Motherboard’s expansive look at the challenges that come with trying to maintain community standards when that community happens to be larger than many countries.

There are 60 people on the Facebook team hired exclusively to write and revise the content moderation policy alone. The policy, in its current form, is a sprawling 27 pages, which aims to balance user safety with free speech.

Within that document, you’ll find a super-specific set of instructions for the company’s team of moderators, and they’re constantly shifting. For example, where nudity is generally a no-go on the site, there are some exceptions to the rule—such as adult nudity in historic Holocaust photos and in some cases, images of certain art pieces.

Facebook also bans terrorist content, non-medical drug use, and hate speech, though content with similar intentions (i.e. offensive speech without the explicit use of a racial slur) can make it onto the platform. group of 7,500 moderators sifts through flagged posts manually, earning roughly $15 per hour to view what is arguably the worst content on the planet.

But, that might be changing soon.

facebook defines hate speech

AI could step in to save the day

After reports came out that content moderators were suffering from PTSD, it’s no surprise that one of Facebook’s primary goals is moderating its content with AI.

While the effort is bound to put some moderators out of a job, the idea is that algorithms will shoulder the burden of filtering through the worst content — reportedly VERY disturbing at times — so humans don’t have to deal with it.

The other benefit for Facebook is, they can once again cover their policies in a shroud of secrecy. Leaked documents, if you remember, have been the reason that any of Facebook’s policies have seen the light of day. Swapping out live bodies for algorithms could mitigate any risk of loose lips sinking ships.

On the flip side, the AI does have some limits. For example, it can only block content that looks like something it has already seen. So new forms of violence from say, a terrorist group might still make it through the filter.

The black and white rules could be on the way out, too

Facebook has long operated in very black and white terms when it comes to determining whether a piece of content violates its rules or not.

Last year, Facebook’s 25 content moderation guidelines were revealed, among them that controversial protected group quiz— asking “Who do we protect: black children or white men?”

Facebook content moderation question

The question was blasted on ProPublica and sparked a great deal of outrage and has since been removed from training materials.

But the rules-based approach has been the source of many problems plaguing the company over the past few years. 2016’s influx of fake news, for example, didn’t contain any nudity or outright hate speech, even though the underlying intent was to generate clicks by way of inciting outrage.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently posted that “content that doesn’t explicitly violate the rules” may be reduced. Meaning, the company may curb reach on offensive posts that don’t quite qualify as hate speech. But there is no definitive path forward or broad agreement on what is hate speech and what is not, especially given the wide range of cultural norms that come into play.

Today, we’re looking at issues like people being driven to violence after viewing content on Facebook. Or the platform’s disturbing role in ethnic violence against the Rohingya community in Myanmar. As such, it seems we’ll need to find a solution sooner rather than later.

Zuckerberg is floating the idea of an independent oversight group, a group that would operate as an outside panel of reviewers, much like a Supreme Court. However, some critics feel that this might offload some of the platform’s responsibility.

Wrapping up

In the end, the challenge of moderating Facebook lies in the sheer scale of the platform, and the contextual interpretations spanning cultures across the globe.

And sure, Facebook has done a lot of work to make sure that the policies are enforced on a consistent level, while still allowing for free speech.

That said, Facebook seems to be hinging some hopes on curbing the reach of even some of the most clicked content. Perhaps if we stop rewarding trolls with so many clicks, people may be disinclined to stir up outrage in the first place.

But chances are, Facebook’s content moderation efforts will be an ongoing dilemma.

Facebook Watch Party feature is available now

Facebook Watch Party is now available to everyone.

facebook watch party

Facebook’s Watch Party feature came to the social network earlier this year. The roll-out of Watch Party, however, which allows users to watch videos from Facebook Watch alongside their other Facebook friends was limited to Groups. You could only watch Facebook videos with friends you were in groups with. This has now changed.

Facebook Watch Party is now available to everyone

Watch Party is supposed to be one of Facebook’s ways of promoting an active social media experience centered around making human connections. With more data becoming available highlighting the damage that too much social media can do to a person, Facebook has been keen to show that there are healthy ways of spending many hours on a social network. If you’re making active contributions to the network and connecting with other members then this can be a positive experience. The science backing up Facebook’s claim is patchy, to say the least, but Watch Party is one of the ways that Facebook is trying to foster more active interactions among its users.

Facebook has now announced the wider roll-out of Facebook Watch Party to all users:

“Today we’re launching Watch Party to all Pages and people on Facebook, the next milestone in our journey to build social, interactive experiences around video on Facebook. Watch Party enables people, creators, and publishers to watch, discuss and react to playlists of videos together in real time, in a shared space.”

According to Facebook, over 12 million Watch Parties have been initiated in Groups since the feature launched in January. This has helped create eight times as many comments on Watch Party videos than on non-live videos in Groups.

On top of the wider roll-out, Facebook has also announced a few improved features to help foster interactions between party members. These include threaded comments, which will give viewers the ability to have conversations in the comments while also being able to continue commenting live on the video. Other key features include hosts being able to schedule Watch Parties in advance and even be able to commentate over the video as it playing.

All of this means that from today Facebook Watch Parties will be available on all Facebook pages and profiles all around the world. As ever with such large roll-outs, however, these things take time. If you still haven’t received the feature on your profile don’t worry, it is on the way.

We’re eager to learn how Facebook users have been taking advantage of the Watch Party feature and how you plan to use it in the future. If you’ve taken part in a Facebook Watch Party, we’d love to hear about your experience in the comments below.

RDR 2 Online: Release date and details revealed

Say goodbye to your free time. RDR2 Online is here.

Red Dead Redemption 2 online

Red Dead Redemption 2 is fast on track to becoming one of the biggest and most successful console releases of all time. Raking in $725 million in just the opening weekend, Red Dead 2 boasts the most successful launch of any entertainment product, topping Marvel’s juggernaut “Infinity War.” A large piece is still missing from Red Dead 2, however, and that’s the multiplayer mode. That’s about to change. Red Dead Redemption 2 Online is here, with a tiered beta release throughout the week culminating in a full release on November 30.

RDR 2 Online: Release Date and Details Revealed

Rockstar is no stranger to introducing expansive multiplayer modes for its games. Its previous flagship title, Grand Theft Auto 5, included a groundbreaking multiplayer that blended narrative storytelling with both cooperative and competitive game modes in an expansive map. GTA’s multiplayer continues to be updated with regular events, content updates, weapons, and other DLC that keeps the mode relevant.

Rockstar is taking cues from GTA’s multiplayer for Red Dead, specifically in regards to the way the mode adds storytelling to the mix. As in Red Dead 2’s story mode, Honor will play a large role in multiplayer. Different mission types, characters, and other perks will be made available to you depending on how honorably (or dishonorably) you choose to play.

RDR 2 Online will begin with character creation, which includes detailing your character’s appearance and also choosing your stats and attributes. From there, you’ll be tasked with a breakout from Sisika Penitentiary, and your career as a Wild West gunslinger will begin in earnest. Many of the same mechanics from the Story Mode will be carried over into Multiplayer. This includes Camps. You’ll be able to form gangs with your friends and choose where to set up your hideout, just as in the single-player story.

Once introduced to the game world, players will be able to participate in varying types of missions and activities:

  • Free Roam Events will be returning from GTA Online; these ambient in-world events often entailed shootouts with rival gangs or organizations or attempting to transport a score from one point on the map to another.
  • Survival Missions also return from GTA Online. A player or group of players is tasked with defending a certain location against increasingly difficult waves of NPC enemies from rival gangs.
  • Racing is also back, but this time around, players will be racing horses and stagecoaches instead of high-tech supercars.
  • A Land of Opportunites will be the multiplayer answer to the campaign. Players will be able to take on multi-part story-based missions in teams of 2-4. These missions will evolve based on your Honor levels, so the same mission can be taken on in different ways.

More traditional competitive game types will also return, from King of Hill to Capture the Flag to Deathmatches.

Josh Needleman, senior producer at Rockstar San Diego, summed up the overall feel of the multiplayer in an interview with IGN: “Like the single-player game’s story of Arthur Morgan, we want people to settle into their online characters and feel like every activity makes sense for the character, the setting and the time. This should feel intimate and personal while still feeling fun and action-packed from moment to moment.”

Currently, Rockstar is implementing a tiered release for the multiplayer mode to prevent server crashes. Here’s when you can play:

  • Tuesday, November 27: All Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition owners.
  • Wednesday, November 28: All players who played Red Dead Redemption 2 on October 26.
  • Thursday, November 29: All players who played Red Dead Redemption 2 between October 26 to October 29.
  • Friday, November 30: All Red Dead Redemption 2 players.

Saddle up, cowboys. It’s time to ride out.

How to find out who views your Instagram profile the most

Who’s Insta-stalking you? Here’s how to find out.

selfie

Wondering if your crush has been viewing your Instagram profile? (Or, God forbid, your mom?) Currently, Instagram lacks a feature that allows you to see who has recently looked at your page. However, with these tips and tricks, you can play detective and figure out who has likely looked at your Instagram profile the most!

How to find out who views your Instagram profile the most

Check your Instagram Stories

If your profile is public, anyone can view your Instagram Stories even if they don’t follow you. Also, people who view your profile are more likely to watch your Story. When you click on your Instagram Story, it will show you a list of users who have watched it.

Now that you can save Stories as permanent Highlights on your profile, it’s easy to go through each Story and see which names come up most. The people who view your Stories most frequently are very likely the same people who view your Instagram profile most often.

Use a Third-Party App

If you download an app that offers insights, then you will have a better idea of who has been viewing your Instagram profile. Apps such as Followers Assistant and UnFollowers can track who follows or unfollows your Instagram account. Many also offer insights into who likes your photos most often, who comments most frequently, and who has blocked you. From this information, you can gain better insight regarding who tends to view your profile.

You can find several apps that promise to tell you who views your Instagram profile most. These apps claim they simply collect data from your Instagram profile and calculate who has viewed your profile the most. Unfortunately, no app is able to do this, because the Instagram API does not share that information — so buyer beware.

Sometimes it’s frustrating to post photos on social media and not know who’s even seeing them. If you want to find out who is viewing your Instagram profile, try one of these two solutions.

Atrium: Rise of the robo-lawyers

How will cutting-edge computer programs change the legal profession?

law

Ever think to yourself, “I wish there was an easier, faster way to get legal help?” Or, “If only there was some software that could shoulder the burden of legal work while actual attorneys help where it matters.” Maybe, “I wish there was an AI that could transcribe legal documentation and handle e-signing with a suite of tools so workflow management on my projects would take priority?”

Let’s get real: You’ve probably never had any of those thoughts. Most people don’t. But Justin Kan did. And it’s blowing up.

If you recognize that name, that’s because he’s the guy who co-founded Twitch. Kan obviously knows a thing or two about making a successful startup company, and Legal Technology Services (LTS) is his newest idea to hit the market. Co-founded with Chris Smoak, LTS is the closest you’ll ever see to a robot lawyer. “It does everything except give advice,” Kan explains proudly. Atrium was LTS’ first client, and the firm has successfully advised its customers on $94 million in financing since the start of the summer. Clients include Protocol Labs, Meadow and a drug-testing service called Notable Labs.

What is Atrium?

Atrium is a corporate law firm whose competitive edge is largely from Kan’s LTS technology. LTS gives Atrium a huge leg-up with speed, transparency, and consistent prices, which they proudly state clients will receive up-front. Atrium provides its legal services to entrepreneurs – fast-growing startup companies looking to take care of primary financing so they can get their company on the market successfully and legally. LTS works in the background during this typically lengthy and complex process.

Atrium has already helped hundreds of startup companies find their voice

“We’ve helped over 250 clients raise a total of over $500 million in primary financing, and have built the A-team into over 110 great employees who are motivated to change this industry. We are also announcing that this summer we acquired the AI company Tetra to help us build our technology platform,” Kan said. “We can ultimately be this platform on top of which you’re building these legal businesses and eventually other professional services and software services; they’re all sitting on top of the platform that understands legal documents.”

How is this saving time for clients?

LTS utilizes machine learning software that dissects and interprets legal documentation and further automates any repeatable processes. This means that the human lawyers in the company waste less of their clients’ time.

No, Atrium is not fully automated. “We’re not trying to be the Uber of lawyers or ‘lawyer AI'” Kan dismisses. The inclusion of human lawyers is to ensure that companies coming are able to be met with their specific needs; no two startups are the same, and the human quality helps to get the process started on the track. LTS just does the walking. “We’ve always been about humans and  working together.”

The founders for Atrium (Kan on the left)

LTS gets to work on digitizing legal documents and building applications to hasten fundraising, commercial contracts, equity distribution, and employment issues; it takes the most common and time-consuming activities — usually pertaining to tons of paperwork – and builds machine learning workarounds so attorneys can better focus their efforts where they’re more needed.

At Atrium, the lawyers can now prioritize advising their clients instead of arduously hunting through documents for pesky minutiae and tiny loopholes. This makes the entire process not only faster, but more affordable. The result is a procedure that churns fairly predictable costs, so Atrium can offer upfront pricing.

Atrium also helps build your business

Atrium strives to pave the way for more than just legal work (though that remains their primary focus). They also want to share their knowledge of how to succeed as a startup. They offer mentoring and practical knowledge semi-regularly with their two-day “entrepreneurship boot camp” called Atrium Scale. Kan and a number of the company’s other founders personally walk fledgling founders build their companies, find their comfort zone, prepare a series A pitch, and distribute their product. At the end of the crash course they even introduce applicants to Atrium’s own network of partners and investors.

Any roadblocks?

“I think for any full stack vertical startup started by a non-subject matter expert (i.e. me who is not a lawyer), there is a risk that you come in and are very prescriptive on how things work,” Kan said. The fact that Kan managed to build LTS despite having little to no legal background himself is encouraging.

“You build software that says ‘the providers must do it this way!’ but the practical reality is that it doesn’t work with the nuanced, non-linear workflows that providers already have,” Kan said. “So the technology doesn’t get adopted and fails to provide value. That to me is the biggest upcoming risk.”

Making LTS more case-sensitive is the next big step for Kan

Recently Atrium announced that it has raised a $65 million round of funding, practically one year to the day after announcing its seed investment (which was over $10 million). This investment round is led by the mighty venture fund Andreessen Horowitz, and its co-investors include monoliths like YC Continuity, Sound Ventures, and General Catalyst.

Using AI to speed along legal processes is a pretty radical concept, but with financial backing like that, we’re pretty confident that Kan’s onto something big – and very lucrative. Atrium could slowly generate network effects that end up fueling the whole legal business. “Legal has traditionally been something that people don’t want to take risks with. But I think we’re proving to the market that this is real, it’s not going away, and it’s a great opportunity for everyone,” says Kan. “This round of investment validates that as well.”

These are the best gaming glasses

Protect your eyes with our pick.

If you’ve ever seen people wearing yellow tinted glasses while on their computer or using a gaming console, then you’ve probably seen GUNNARs before or similar gaming glasses. These glasses are actually incredibly useful. They’re becoming increasingly popular among gamers and even some non-gaming communities.

Gunnars

Why do people buy gaming glasses?

Overexposure to computer screens can cause your eyes to become strained and fatigued. Frequent overexposure can even cause computer vision syndrome, which leads to things like headaches and blurred vision. Most people experience these symptoms at some point in their lives, especially ones who game frequently or work in front of a computer screen.

Gunnars and other protective eyewear use tinted lenses to dim the light from your screen, and prevent symptoms of computer vision syndrome. They work similar to how blinds work in a window. Blinds let some light in so you can still use the window for vision, but they block enough to protect your eyes and skin from the harmful effects of sunlight. Similarly, Gunnars still allow you to see your screen, but block part of the light to prevent its harmful effects.

Gunnar Optiks also provides prescription versions of their lenses, so these glasses are not exclusive to those with perfect vision. They also provide a variety of styles, including a specific gaming eyewear style. These glasses are designed with headsets in mind, to help optimize a gaming experience while keeping your eyes safe.

If you’re finding yourself with frequent eye strain either from gaming or using the computer too frequently, then you might find Gunnars to be extremely useful. Our Softonic Solutions community also recommends a list of computer glasses if you’re looking for more options!

Follow our guide and you’ll beat the Carnival Clown Boards in no time.

fortnite clown skins

Though Fortnite Season 6 is winding to a close, it’s not over quite yet. There are still a few more challenges to complete before the season ends, chief among them being a new mini-game involving some colorful Carnival Clown Boards.

How to find and beat the Carnival Clown Boards in Fortnite

Fortnite veterans will be familiar with the basic structure of this mini-game. These boards are scattered in remote locations around the map, and once you find one, you’ll basically be playing a game of Whack-A-Mole. Balloons will start expanding from the holes on the board, and your job is to pop them before they grow too large and explode. Hit 10 balloons in a row, and the board will be complete. Complete 3 boards, and that’s one more challenge in the bag.

Though you can use your guns to complete the challenge, we actually recommend treating the Board like an actual game of Whack-A-Mole and using your pickaxe. Get nice and close to the board so you can whack the balloons as they pop up.

Use DuckDuckGo and Brave together for total privacy on the Web

Looking for privacy? It’s time to trade up for this browser and search engine.

“A lot of people think their searches aren’t tracked in private browsing mode,” stated DuckDuckGo Chief Executive Gabriel Weinberg. “Unfortunately, that’s not true.” This year has been rife with security breaches for Facebook and Google,  and it’s starting to really hurt their business.

Facebook’s new Portal devices, which are smarter household vid chat cameras, might have received a more positive response had they been released fall of last year. Things have changed a lot since then. These days the response to Portal has been mixed at best. It’s no surprise; people are rightly concerned about security in their homes and on the Internet.

Last year, DuckDuckGo conducted a study to see whether privacy was a mainstream concern in the U.S. They found that 24% of adults cared enough about their online privacy that they would take significant action to keep it protected. 65% said that they would be motivated enough to switch search engines if they knew the new one would refrain from collecting personal data pertaining to their searches. As far back as January 2017, as many as 84% of Americans said that they would opt for a different web browser if it would encourage more online security and safer online browsing.

DDG conducted that study last year. That was before the Cambridge Analytica disaster, before the Fall 2018 breach, and before there was a new kid on the block that could stand to make a real difference:

Meet Brave

If this is the first time you’ve heard of Brave, it wouldn’t be surprising. Brave is just now getting out of its Beta release phase. Brave now offers versions for iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux. The concept of a browser that could run faster and keep users safer and more private has been in the works since May 2015. Their partnership with DuckDuckGo was established as far back as last year:

Developed by Brian Bondy and Brendan Eich, formerly of Netscape and Firefox fame, Brave is an Internet browser that prioritizes safety, speed, and incorporates user-focused UI and settings. If you’re not familiar with Brendan Eich, he’s the guy who invented JavaScript back in the Netscape days and went on to co-found Mozilla. Brave is his third major browser project, and it’s looking to be his best.

Brave is a true ad-slayer, automatically blocking all trackers and shaking off unwanted cookies, pop-ups, and banners to keep your browsing session as productive and uninhibited as possible. Its default utilities will auto-upgrade existing connections to websites to HTTPS protocol, meaning your security will be even tighter still. Everything else can be dialed up or down via the settings menu. You can adjust the browser’s firewall by altering your shield preferences, meaning Brave only lets in what you want it to. You want extra privacy? Try Brave’s Tor tabs feature. In addition Brave gives users an interesting way to continue to support the publishers who have lost revenue from blocked ads–a blockchain based Brave Rewards solution.

Meet DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo is not a browser but a search engine. The company describes itself as “the search engine that doesn’t track you,” and that’s the backbone of their entire campaign, which began in 2008. Unlike Google, DDG never mines personal data or keeps track of a user’s browsing habits.

Enjoy private, secure and fast browsing with Brave.

Every time you enter a search with DuckDuckGo the search engine treats you as though it’s your first time there. You won’t be seeing any purple-highlighted links signifying that you’ve clicked here before. You’re not going to be seeing any banner ads that seem eerily pertinent to your personal life either.

“We simply don’t store anything that can tie your searches to you personally,” they assert, “or even tie them together into a search history.” They run a pretty tight ship, and have every facet of their privacy policy laid out on their website.

A likely alliance

In December 2017 Brave and DuckDuckGo saw that they shared a mutual passion for online privacy, and saw the benefits of a collaboration that fed on each other’s strengths. They agreed to partner up in an effort to elevate online browsing into becoming a more secure experience.

Isn’t this double anonymity?

If Brave is allegedly the best solution for online privacy, then what good is it to have a search engine that does the same thing? Isn’t Brave powerful enough to handle discretion on its own?

DuckDuckGo and Brave work hand in hand

While Brave offers unparalleled protection against pop-ups, ads, cookies, and other forms of tracking, DDG explains that even when you’re using Brave as a browser, “search engines such as Google record what the user enters in the search bar.” As a search engine, Google is still so entrenched in its use of targeting and cookies that Brave can’t offer its peak strength in its murkier waters.

Incognito mode doesn’t help

Despite its name, incognito mode doesn’t actually protect your searches. In many browsers, erasing your browser history after your incognito search won’t make a difference either; that will only delete your local browsing data but won’t stop websites (like Google) from tracking you through your IP address, which is pretty scary. That’s why Brave gives you the option to swap over to DDG as a search engine when users wish to search more discreetly.

DDG integration

Switch over to a private tab, and DuckDuckGo takes over. Open an incognito window in Brave and the first thing you’ll see is a push to use DDG as a search engine. Brave puts it like this: “We already block ads and trackers that violate users’ privacy; using Private Tabs enhances privacy by not logging anything from those tabs in History or browsing data, and adding DuckDuckGo in Private Tabs further protects user privacy with anonymous searches.”

Brave suggests DDG as your default search engine when in incognito windows

For many, there still may be times when you want to use Google or another less private search engine such as Bing or Yahoo. But if you want to fly under the radar, or just don’t like the idea of Google following you with targeted ads, then open a new window, switch on DDG as per Brave’s recommendation, and experience the fastest, safest, private search you’ve ever initiated.

“Users can now search without the search engine collecting personal data about them.” Brendan Eich proudly stated. “Users have suffered long enough from the current broken online ecosystem, and with the right tools they can reclaim their privacy and take a stand against the intermediaries that exploit their personal data.”
