DLC characters and more have been announced for Mortal Kombat 11!
Mortal Kombat fans rejoice!
We finally got to see the DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 11, and we are hyped. Joining the world of Mortal Kombat, we have Joker, Spawn, and the Terminator. Also, Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, and Sindel are also returning to the arena! Each character will be getting new skins and gear that will also be in the DLC. There will also be 19 additional skins for other characters.
This isn’t Joker’s first time entering the carnage that is Mortal Kombat. In 2008, he appeared in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. That game was decent, but the lack of gory fatalities upset hardcore fans of the series.
Speaking of the Joker, we have to talk about his new look:
Although he isn’t sporting tattoos and grills like in “Suicide Squad,” this younger-looking Joker still looks… off-putting. He doesn’t look much like the Clown Prince of Crime, and instead kinda looks like some weird kid’s cosplay.
Shang Tsung and Nightwolf are available now. The Terminator will be available in October. Sindel is coming in November. Joker is coming in January and Spawn is coming in March.
Whether waiting for you on the highest mountain, or behind locked doors, these video game bosses are shrouded in mystery, and we love them.
There’s nothing in gaming that gets your heart pumping more than a boss fight. Standing between you and the end of the stage, bosses push your skill, strategy, and reflexes to the absolute limit.
In most games, the most difficult fight in the game is against the final boss. Some games, however, feature incredibly difficult secret boss fights that most players will miss on their first playthrough. These boss fights are often game-breakingly difficult, and beating one of them is a rite of passage to calling yourself a master of that game. Here are a few of the best of these mysterious but brutal encounters.
Top 5 secret video game boss fights
5. Reptile (Mortal Kombat)
I am Reptile, find me!
Mortal Kombat is known for its secrets more than any other fighting game. Creator Ed Boon loved messing with his players by including false hints and teases to characters that didn’t exist. This caused many kids to spend hours at the arcade trying to find hidden fighters, wasting quarter after quarter. One secret character that did actually exist, however, was Reptile.
Occasionally, the green ninja would pop in before a fight and say something cryptic like “Look to La Luna” (fight in the stage with the moon) or “TIP EHT FO MOTTOB” (“bottom of the pit” spelled backward). If the player successfully deciphered his messages and followed his instructions you will actually get the opportunity to fight him.
To fight Reptile, you must get a double flawless victory without blocking in single player on the pit stage, and uppercut your opponent into the spikes.
Using moves from both Sub-Zero and Scorpion, Reptile is no slouch. Though you won’t unlock the ability to play as him, beating Reptile gave you the ultimate arcade bragging rights.

4. Morgan Freeman (South Park: The Fractured But Whole)
Listen to my voice, Gaze at my freckles, Guess what? You’ve just been Freeman’d
Every boss fight in South Park: The Fractured But Whole is bizarre, but even then the game’s secret boss fight against Morgan Freeman stands out as strange.
Morgan Freeman has retired from his storied Hollywood career to run a humble taco shack in South Park. Throughout the game, he serves as a friendly NPC, and the player can purchase various items from him.
However, if you walk behind the counter and hit him three times you’ll immediately start the hardest boss fight in the entire game. It’s recommended that you challenge him after you beat the game, as you’ll need every powerful summon and ability you can get for this fight. The man with the golden voice doesn’t play around.
VIDEO IS NSFW… obviously
3. Red (Pokémon Gold and Silver)
…!
Kids back in 1999 were shocked to discover that beating Pokémon Gold and Silver unlocked the ability to travel to the Kanto region, which is the area featured in Pokémon Red and Blue.
The player can explore the entire region to obtain eight additional gym badges and loads of new Pokémon. Collecting all 16 gym badges unlocks access to a new area called Mt. Silver, an incredibly difficult dungeon complete with brutal wild Pokémon. Fighting your way through this long and grueling dungeon reveals a summit with a lone familiar figure. Without saying a word, Red from the original games challenges you to a battle.
Red is the protagonist of Pokémon Red and Blue. Armed with a full party that includes Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, and an insanely over-leveled Pikachu, Red presents arguably the toughest boss fight in the entire series. Finding the character you journeyed with through Red and Blue was shocking at the time, and taking him down was an accomplishment that few trainers could achieve.
2. Giga Bowser (Super Smash Bros. Melee)
Good luck defeating this colossus!
The Smash Bros. series is no stranger to bosses. Whether it be the mysterious Master Hand or the all-powerful Tabuu, the series has a treasure trove of original boss characters.
If you beat the Adventure Mode in Melee in under 18 minutes with no continues, you’re treated to a terrifying cutscene of Bowser transforming into Giga Bowser. You also have to play on a difficulty higher than normal.
Giga Bowser is more than twice as big as Bowser, and features more powerful attacks. Unlike Master Hand, Giga Bowser has a percentage meter instead of an HP meter, meaning that he must be knocked off stage to be defeated. This makes for a much more difficult fight.
Series creator Masahiro Sakurai based Giga Bowser’s design off of what he imagined when he first saw Bowser’s sprite in the original Super Mario Bros.
1. Culex – Super Mario RPG
I am matter… I am antimatter… I can see your past… I can see your future… I consume time… And I will consume you!
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was the first ever RPG set in the Mushroom Kingdom. Developed by Square, known for the Final Fantasy series, the game saw players exploring Mario’s wacky world and battling foes in turn-based battles.
Players mostly battled colorful characters straight out of past Mario games like Goombas, Koopas, and Piranha Plants. However, if the player gets a Shiny Stone and opens the locked door in Monstro Town they can fight a very, VERY un-Mario character.
Enter Culex: a purple demon with the power to control matter and time. Take another look at the character and keep in mind that you fight him in a Mario game.
Culex is a reference to Square’s own Final Fantasy series. Though he does not appear in the Final Fantasy series himself, the character’s grand design and tiny overworld sprite is a reference to the franchise.
The battle music from Final Fantasy IV even plays as you fight him, and the famous Final Fantasy victory music plays after you defeat him. Culex has two characterizations depending on if you played the English or Japanese version of Super Mario RPG. Culex is the hardest enemy in the game by far and has more health than the final boss’s two forms combined.
No matter which version you play, Culex is one of the hardest boss fights in any Mario game.
Wrapping up
For all of these titles, the core game is more than enough. The bonus hidden boss was just a cherry on top of the sundae. We are glad that they are there, and we hope we might find more in the future.

Video games and movies have rarely every mixed, but what are the worst of the worst?
If that trailer for “Sonic the Hedgehog” proved anything, it’s that video games should not be adapted into movies.
Throughout the ages, only a handful have been decent. The Tomb Raider movies have their moments, and the first Mortal Kombat film was awesome.
However, for every good one we got, we had a dozen stinkers. For this list, we decided to give you the worst of the worst. In order to qualify, the movie has to be based on the game and not a different interpretation. For example, the animated Pokémon movies are based on the anime, not the game.
Top 5 worst video game movies
5. Warcraft
Some hardcore fans do like this movie, but general audiences agreed that it’s pretty awful.
The CGI and make-up aren’t bad, but the film falls apart in every other aspect. The acting is beyond hokey. The story is both predictable and boring. Even the action scenes are bland. The film is about two hours long, but it feels like an eternity.
A video game series like World of Warcraft has such potential for a film adaptation, but this film misses the mark at every turn.
The Double Dragon games have a very simple concept. Billy and Jimmy Lee are brothers who use their kung-fu fighting skills to rescue Billy’s girlfriend while fighting off a Chinese gang.
In the game, Billy and Jimmy are both big, muscular dudes who look like American Gladiators. However, in the movie, we got two scrawny guys who just look in over their heads. The main theme of rescuing Billy’s girlfriend is thrown out the window for a new story about collecting a medallion.
If you’re a fan of the games, spin-kick this movie far, far away.
3. Doom
This movie was so bad even The Rock poked fun at it years later:
Wow! Very cool RAMPAGE news! Not pointing to the scoreboard yet, but it seems we may have finally broken the dreaded video game curse. And remember, I starred in the stinker “Doom” so I have lived thy curse ?? https://t.co/2FSb0wXavK
Good lord, Dwayne Johnson wasn’t even in a lot of this movie and he still feels the need to talk about how awful it was.
Doom is a video game series about fighting demon-spawn from Hell in outer space. How do you screw that up?
This movie is DARK. We don’t mean dark in tone, we mean it’s literally hard to see anything in this movie. The DC Cinematic Universe has nothing on how dark and lifeless this movie is.
The major flaw with the movie is the threat. Rather than fighting demons from Hell, the heroes fight failed genetic experiments. All of the things that made the original Doom cool and edgy are thrown out the window. The only thing the movie has to do with the games is the title. Call this movie “Space Station Survival,” and nobody would know it had anything to do with Doom.
2. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
Holy smokes, this was bad.
The first Mortal Kombat movie wasn’t exactly “Citizen Kane,” but it got the job done. The action is cool. The story is simple but easy to follow. It is hammy in all the best ways. Also, it has Robin Shou as Liu Kang! How could you go wrong with Robin Shou?
“Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.” That’s how.
The acting in this movie is absolutely atrocious. Kids in high school theater would’ve given a bigger effort than these guys. I mean just watch this scene:
A director watched that and said, “Yeah, that was great. Let’s use that take.”
Unfortunately, we cannot perform a fatality on this movie. If you want to watch a fun Mortal Kombat movie, watch the first movie. It gets a flawless victory against this dumpster fire every time.
Need more evidence? Here you go:
1. Super Mario Bros.
How bad is this movie? Let’s see what Bob Hoskins, the actor who played Mario, had to say:
“The worst thing I ever did? ‘Super Mario Bros.’ It was a f***in’ nightmare. The whole experience was a nightmare. It had a husband-and-wife team directing, whose arrogance had been mistaken for talent. After so many weeks their own agent told them to get off the set! F***in’ nightmare. F***in’ idiots.”
See if you can endure this:
Even John Leguizamo who played Luigi doesn’t have anything kind to say about the movie:
Why is the movie bad? Where do we even start?
The story has nothing to do with Mario. The movie takes place in an alternate timeline version the real world rather than the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser is human. Goombas are big, tall guys with tiny heads. Clearly, the only mushrooms that went into making this movie were the ones the writers took.
The Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 11 has been datamined, revealing some interesting guest characters for future DLC. In this Reddit post, user /u/LeoNatan lists out a series of strings, as well as a step-by-step process for anyone who’d like to verify that these lists actually exist in the code. The code has been confirmed to actually exist in the game, so unless the references to these new guest characters are red herrings, they are coming to MK11 in future DLC packs. Without further ado, here are the leaked characters:
Joker
Batman’s archnemesis, the Joker, will be making his Mortal Kombat debut. While the Joker was featured both in Netherrealm’s Injustice series and Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, this marks the first time the Clown Prince of Crime appears in a mainline Mortal Kombat game. With the Joker standalone movie coming later this year, it makes sense for publisher Warner Bros to promote the character, just as they promoted the “Suicide Squad” characters in Injustice 2.
Though Joker is known for his murderous and sadistic tendencies, it’s interesting that DC is allowing one of their characters, even Joker, to participate in the gory mayhem of Mortal Kombat, as Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe had significantly toned down gore and neutered fatalities. Still, Joker is a perfect fit for the Mortal Kombat universe, and I can’t wait to see what kind of insane fatalities that he’ll pull off.
Leaked dialogue:
Joker: “You know, you remind me of Bats.”
Terminator: “Who?”
Joker: “Just another jerk with no sense of humor.”
–
Joker: “You look like a hugger, bring it in!”
Spawn: “I’ll turn you inside-out ass-first, clown.”
Joker: “I love it when they talk dirty!”
Terminator
The Terminator, specifically the T-800 from “T2: Judgment Day,” blasts onto the scene in Mortal Kombat 11. The franchise is obviously no stranger to cyborgs, including fan favorites like Sektor and Cyrax, so Arnie should have no trouble fitting in. Like Joker, Terminator also has a movie coming later this year in “Terminator: Dark Fate.” Judging by some of the leaked dialogue, it’s clear the developers are diehard fans of the series, as well as other Arnold films. Fun fact: Kano’s eye laser and heart rip fatalities were originally inspired by the Terminator itself, so hopefully it can return the favor.
Leaked dialogue:
Terminator: Your guns and your cape, give them to me.
Arguably the most-requested guest character in Mortal Kombat history, fans can finally rest easy that Spawn is coming. An icon of ’90s edgy independent comics, Spawn is one of the industry’s quintessential anti-heroes. Spawn is additionally getting a Jamie Foxx-led movie coming in the near future, though details are scarce as of now. Spawn’s demonic aesthetic and brutal powerset make him a natural fit for Mortal Kombat, and it’ll be fun to see his interactions with other hellspawn like Scorpion.
Leaked dialogue:
Cassie Cage: “Guns, magic, you can’t just choose?”
Spawn: “I go both ways.”
Cassie Cage: “That explains the fetish gear.”
–
Spawn: “You’ve been to other dimensions?”
Scorpion: “Each had its own injustices.”
Spawn: “Maybe that’s why my soul still burns.”
Ash Williams
Deadites beware: the boomstick wielding, chainsaw-armed buffoon Ash Williams has entered the fray. The semi-competent hero of the “Evil Dead” trilogy and its numerous spinoffs, Ash Williams uses his quick wit, unconventional weaponry, and “charm” to put undead baddies in their place. Ash has battled everyone from zombified Marvel heroes to Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, so he should be able to handle his own against Sub-Zero and company.
Leaked dialogue:
Ash: “Fancy leathers, who’s your tailor?”
Spawn: “How’d you like to wear that smile on your ass?”
Ash: “No thanks, I only wear American denim.”
Returning Mortal Kombat characters
Guest characters weren’t the only ones that leaked. Returning kombatants include the shape-shifting villain Shang Tsung, Native American sorcerer warrior Nightwolf, the ear-piercing Sindel, and the four-armed Sheeva. Curiously, the leak also mentions Fujin as a playable character. Fujin is a demi-god like Raiden, though he controls the wind. He debuted in the infamously awful spinoff Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero as a boss before becoming playable in Mortal Kombat 4.

Get hyped with this early look at Mortal Kombat 11!
Mortal Kombat 11 instantly became one of 2019’s most hotly anticipated games after premiering at the Game Awards. This past Thursday, director Ed Boon gave us a peek into Mortal Kombat 11’s interesting new features, including a brand new playable character.
Everything we know about Mortal Kombat 11
The Kombatants
Netherrealm promises a roster of 25 fighters at launch, with more to come down the line with DLC. The currently confirmed characters are:
Baraka
Geras
Raiden
Scorpion
Shao Kahn (Pre-order bonus)
Skarlet
Sonya
Sub-Zero
Geras is a newcomer who manipulates both time and sand. Using sand, Geras can form copies of himself, create barriers, teleport, and shoot projectiles. Even better, Geras can use his time manipulation gimmick to turn the tide of a match. His Rewind Time ability rewinds the match four seconds, negating any damage or positioning disadvantage that Geras might have received (this move works similar to Tracer’s Recall ability from Overwatch).
Beyond that, Geras can spend offensive meter to add and subtract seconds from the match timer with his Lost Time and Spare Time abilities respectively, a never-before-seen mechanic in a fighting game. It will be interesting to see how tournament players manipulate the timer in high-level play, as it will definitely lead to some tense matches. You can watch Geras’ reveal trailer below.
Besides Geras, the most surprising character reveal was for Sonya Blade. While Sonya has been one of the most enduring and popular characters in the franchise, in Mortal Kombat 11 she will be portrayed by none other than “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey.
The UFC legend and WWE Women’s Champion fits Sonya like a glove. Rousey has long been a gamer and a Mortal Kombat fan, citing Sonya as a childhood hero and one of the most badass women in gaming. Sonya herself has received a redesign and now uses wrist-mounted guns and a mounted machine gun for her Fatal Blow.
Including guest characters has been a tradition for Mortal Kombat games since the 2011 reboot, which featured Freddy Krueger and Kratos. Mortal Kombat X featured horror movie icons like Jason Voorhees, a xenomorph (from “Alien”), a Predator, and Leatherface. While Netherrealm has not confirmed that a guest character will appear in Mortal Kombat 11, popular suggestions from fans include the Joker, Pennywise, Ash Williams, Spawn, and Michael Meyers.
The Gameplay
The trailers suggest Raiden has a “split” personality
Mortal Kombat 11’s gameplay has several new additions that build off of Mortal Kombat X and Injustice 2. Character variations return from Mortal Kombat X, but with a twist. In addition to premade variations, players will now have the opportunity to mix and match moves to create their own character variations.
The special meter, which debuted in the 2011 reboot, has been retooled extensively. Instead of being one singular meter that allows for offensive and defensive techniques, players now have access to two separate meters simultaneously. The offensive meter allows players to “meter burn” their special moves, allowing them to do more damage and extend their combos. Each special move takes a certain amount of meter to burn, with the more powerful ones, such as Geras’ Rewind Time, taking more meter. Players must keep this in mind when building their custom character variations. The defensive meter allows for special defensive techniques such as combo breakers and invincible rolls.
Other new gameplay enhancements include Fatal Blows, which are powerful attacks available when the opponent is below 30% health, and Krushing Blows, which are powerful versions of special moves that activate after completing certain objectives (similar to Brutalities but mid-match). The game also features a perfect block mechanic, similar to Street Fighter III’s parry, which allows players to punish opponents if they pull off a risky, perfectly timed block.
Most notably, Mortal Kombat 11 will include a gear system similar to Injustice 2. Gear can be mixed and matched at the player’s discretion, and this time stats are unaffected by gear. This means that players can customize the look of their character without worrying about how it will affect their stats. In competitive play, pre-made costumes and gear sets are used that make sure the playing field is evened out. The developers have made a point to keep the cosmetics and gameplay as separated as possible, and they claim that the game will not feature gear-based microtransactions. Injustice 2’s gear system laid out a great foundation, and Mortal Kombat 11 looks like its improving on it even further.

Meet the 5 bosses who brought gamers to their knees. How many have you beaten?
You’ve finally made it to the end of the dungeon. You’re low on health and out of potions, and you’re tired. Luckily, the exit is in sight. Right in front of it, however, is a giant clearing with a save point, which can only mean one thing: boss battle.
Boss battles are some of the toughest and most iconic parts of most games The satisfaction of finally taking out a boss that’s been repeatedly kicking your ass is unmatched by anything else in gaming. Here are some of the toughest, weirdest, and overall most memorable bosses in video game history.
Top 5 most memorable boss fights in video game history
5. Mike Tyson – Punch-Out!!
It may seem strange to younger readers that one of the boss fights on this list is based on an actual person, but Mike Tyson in the NES classic Punch-Out!! is no joke. His jabs are blindingly fast and his tells are way more subtle than the other opponents. Watch out for his uppercut, as it can KO poor Little Mac in one blow! Honestly, I’m pretty sure it’d be easier to fight Mike Tyson in real life.
Hilariously, Tyson himself had never actually played the game until 2014, where he fought his pixelated counterpart on The Tonight Show. He lost, but if you think about it, it’s kind of a win-win.
4. Shao Kahn – Mortal Kombat
Most fighting game bosses don’t play by the rules, and Shao Kahn is no exception. Kahn was designed at a time when arcades were everywhere, and video game developers made games with the intention of sucking as many quarters out of kids as possible. Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 are fantastic arcade fighting games, but their final boss Shao Kahn alone probably made arcades hundreds of dollars in quarters.
Unlike other characters, Shao Kahn has super armor on most of his moves. In fighting games, super armor is when a character takes damage but doesn’t flinch, allowing them to power through your attacks. His attacks are also incredibly fast and powerful, and if he hits you with his giant hammer, your character sits stunned for years, allowing him to lay down the smack. Oh, and before you can even fight him you have to take down his pet tiger/man/four-armed thing Kintaro. Worst of all, you know what he says when he beats you?
“It’s official, you suck!”
Kahn caused me countless hours of agony as a kid and as a grown man I still can’t beat him. Maybe someday I’ll be able to beat him and finally get that payback Fatality.
3. Psycho Mantis – Metal Gear Solid
When Metal Gear Solid came out on PS1 back in 1998, it revolutionized the gaming landscape with its deep storytelling, stealth gameplay, and technical prowess. It’s considered one of the greatest and most influential games of all time, and its hero, Solid Snake, has become a gaming icon. One of the most iconic parts of an already fantastic game is a boss fight against the psychic soldier Psycho Mantis.
Using his telepathic abilities, Psycho Mantis messes not only with Snake, but with the player themselves. He can black out the screen and mess with your controller inputs, forcing you to switch the controller to the player 2 slot. Most memorably, Psycho Mantis can read the player’s memory card and comment on the games that are stored there to mess with their heads. in the original PS1 version, he’ll ask the player about Castlevania, and in the Gamecube remake, he’ll mention Mario, Zelda, and Super Smash Bros.
Psycho Mantis is arguably the best example of a video game breaking the fourth wall. His “mindreading” abilities are more than just a gimmick, they serve the story and help build his character.
2. Yellow Devil – Mega Man
The Mega Man NES games are absolute masterpieces of side-scrolling shooters. The characters are charming, the controls are tight and responsive, and the music is unquestionably the best of the 8-bit era. The games were also famous, however, for their high level of difficulty, due in no small part to the series’ famous bosses. While Dr. Wily sent all manner of Robot Masters to fight Mega Man, perhaps none are as iconic or long-lasting as the Yellow Devil.
As the name implies, the Yellow Devil is a hellish creature. His body is made of deadly yellow goo that shoots out at Mega Man. By shooting out pieces of himself, the Yellow Devil can move around the stage, reforming himself as he goes. His eye is his only weak spot, but it can fire deadly energy blasts that home in on Mega Man.
While his attacks are relatively simple, fighting the Yellow Devil is an exercise in patience. He challenges every skill you’ve learned up to that point, including your timing, jumping, and shooting. Winning the battle is all about keeping cool, because if you mess up your timing and become tilted, it’s all downhill from there. (Or you could use the famous “pause” trick to make your Electro-beam blasts count as multiple hits with one shot… but that’s cheating.)
1. Ornstein & Smough
Dark Souls is widely considered one of the hardest games ever made. The game is unforgiving and brutally punishing, yet fair. Every mistake you make is your own, and the only thing that’s stopping you from beating the game is your perseverance to try over and over again. With that being said, Ornstein and Smough can make even the most hardened Dark Souls veteran scream with rage.
This dynamic duo fights the player simultaneously. Smough is a big boy who towers over the player, wielding a hammer that can crush even the tankiest player in one or two hits. His buddy Ornstein is the exact opposite; he’s quick and nimble with a lightning spear, popping up out of nowhere to impale you and shower you with electric fury. While fighting one of these bosses on their own would be very difficult but manageable, fighting both of them at the same time is maddeningly difficult. If you manage to defeat one of them, the survivor absorbs the corpse of the other, refilling their health and increasing their size and power.
Like the Yellow Devil, fighting these two is about keeping your head, though it’s incredibly hard not reacting to the adrenaline pumping through your veins when you get close to beating them after dying dozens of times. Beating them is totally worth it though, and you can rest easy and celebrate loudly that you’ve taken down one of the toughest boss fights in video game history.
Have you beaten these bosses? Are there any big ones we missed? Let us know!
For the most part, gamers don’t want to see glitches. They can delete saved data, cause crashes, or otherwise ruin an otherwise fun experience. There’s nothing worse than playing Skyrim and getting deeply immersed in a questline only for a crucial NPC to glitch out and die for no reason.
Sometimes though, a glitch can be so bizarre, rewarding, or mysterious that it actually enhances the gaming experience. Here are some of the craziest, weirdest, and coolest glitches in gaming history.
The best video game glitches of all time
5. Missingno – Pokémon Red and Blue
This disturbing blob of pixels and code is actually a Pokémon! Well, a glitch Pokémon to be exact. Players can encounter this glitch pretty easily in the Gen 1 games, including the 3DS remakes. To find Missingno (which stands for “missing number”), all you have to do is talk to the old man in Viridian City that teaches you how to catch a Pokémon. After this, immediately fly to Cinnabar Island and surf along the coastline. Missingno will then appear.
Missingno is a normal/bird type Pokémon. No, not flying, bird. It has the move Water Gun twice for some reason and has the highest base attack stat in the game, as well as the lowest base defense stat. This makes the blocky glitch a potent sweeper that could help you wipe the Elite Four if they’re giving you trouble. More importantly, catching Missingno glitches your trainer bag, duplicating whatever item you have in your sixth item slot hundreds of times. Want hundreds of Master Balls or Rare Candies? Missingo’s your man…..bird.
Pokémon Red and Blue came out at a time where playground rumors were rampant. There was no internet to debunk rumors, so kids could make up Pokémon like Mewthree or Pikablue that often had ridiculous catching methods. Missingno was one of those weird glitches that were actually true, and actually fairly easy to encounter. Though the freaky glitchy blob understandably freaked out younger players, it’s one of the many oddities that make Pokémon Red and Blue special.
The early Mortal Kombat games were known for their secrets almost as much as they were for their violence. Even in the very first arcade game, the green ninja Reptile would appear and offer cryptic hints to the player on how to fight him. Intrigued players tirelessly scoured the game for other hidden fighters. Occasionally, the game would glitch out when Scorpion or Sub-Zero would be chosen, giving them a red color palette and renaming them to Ermac (which stands for error macro). While this is a glitch, it was understandably mistaken for a secret character. Rumors quickly spread how to fight and unlock the mysterious red ninja Ermac. Cheeky arcade owners cashed in on the phenomenon by posting fake lists of players who defeated Ermac.
The Mortal Kombat developers at Midway were highly amused by all of the commotion, and added to it by spreading fake rumors within the game itself. Finally, with the release of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Midway threw players a bone by including Ermac as a legitimate playable character. Ermac has been a series staple ever since, clad in red and fighting using magic and summoning souls. Ermac’s legendary rise from glitch to urban legend to playable character is emblematic of the Mortal Kombat team’s dedication to its fans.
3. Wavedashing – Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Smash Bros. Melee is easily the most popular game in the series among competitive players. The physics engine allows for fast, fluid combos. This, combined with advanced techniques like L-canceling, shield dropping, and SHFFLing, create a fighting game experience like no other. Melee’s most famous advanced technique, however, is the wavedash.
Wavedashing is not technically a glitch, it’s a physics exploit. Melee features directional air dodges, and if you air dodge into the ground your momentum is carried, causing you to slide. If you jump off the ground and immediately air dodge into the ground at a diagonal air dodge, you will wavedash, sliding across the ground like in the gif above.
While the timing is tight and can be difficult for newer players, wavedashing is an incredibly valuable technique in competitive play. Wavedashing allows you to approach or retreat while in your standing stance, allowing you to jab, grab, and use tilt and smash attacks. This is often preferable to simply dashing, as while dashing your character can only dash attack, jump, shield, or grab. Wavedashing opens up new options in your approach, allowing you to fake out and mix up your opponent. Characters who benefit from wavedashing most are characters with low traction like Luigi and the Ice Climbers, as they can slip around the stage at high speed while keeping their options open.
Wavedashing is a beloved and iconic part of Melee. While directional air dodges have returned in Smash Ultimate, it looks like wavedashing is, unfortunately, not possible.

Look at the world counter on top. It says you’re at World -1!
The Minus World is an entire level in Super Mario Bros that is glitched. To access the Minus World, the player must stand on the lip of the pipe at the end of World 1-2 and duck jump into the wall. If done correctly, Mario should automatically slide through the bricks into the Warp Zone. If the far left pipe is entered, Mario will enter the Minus World.
How to enter the Minus World
The Minus World is an endless watery grave for our beloved plumber. The world is a simple water level that repeats endlessly when Mario reaches the end pipe, trapping him until he gets a game over screen.
The Minus World is a mysterious and cool glitch that’s held gamers’ attention since the 80s. It’s so popular that Nintendo themselves have referenced the glitch in multiple games, including Super Paper Mario, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

The Corrupted Blood Plague caused untold destruction throughout Azeroth
The Corrupted Blood Plague was a 2005 incident that happened within World of Warcraft. In early September of that year, Blizzard released a new raid that included a boss named Hakkar the Soulflayer. Hakkar cast a debuff spell called Corrupted Blood on players, causing them to rapidly lose health. Players spread the disease to nearby players, causing them to become afflicted too. While the spell was intended to be contained only within Hakkar’s dungeon, players quickly found out that their summoned pets could contract the disease. By summoning their pets outside the dungeon, they could spread the disease to the outside world.
The infection spread like wildfire, killing low-level players within a few seconds. Populated cities like Ironforge were hit the hardest, as players quickly spread the disease to one another. NPCs could also catch the disease, though they didn’t display symptoms, causing them to become asymptomatic carriers. Normal gameplay became impossible, as cities became littered with bodies and players avoided each other as much as possible, often fleeing to the countryside.
Some benevolent players made makeshift hospitals, using healing spells in an attempt to save as many people as possible. Other more mischevious players attempted to spread the plague as much as possible, infecting themselves and traveling to major locations to start an outbreak. The epidemic lasted a whole week before developer Blizzard hard reset the servers and prevented pets from becoming infected, isolating the plague to Hakkar’s dungeon as originally intended.
The event fascinated social scientists and epidemiologists, as it was the first example of a widespread unintentional plague within a digital place. Researchers compared players who spread the disease on purpose to bioterrorists, saying that their behavior mirrored that of those who experienced real life plagues like SARS. Epidemiologists also mapped out the spread of Corrupted Blood throughout the world of WoW, noting that the spread resembled real-life disease maps.
The Corrupted Blood Plague is one of the most iconic moments in MMORPG history, and it’s crazy to think that it was unintentional. The plague fascinated researchers by providing a model of panic and disease for the real world in a virtual space.
