Capcom has announced a new difficulty mode titled Hell for the remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, which will be released on May 23. This extremely challenging mode will push players to their limits, as they will receive lethal damage, returning to the last checkpoint with each hit. Motohide Eshiro, the game’s director, describes that “the name says it all,” and invites everyone to try this experience that, according to him, is not for the faint of heart.

A version that aims to make the original game more accessible

The remastered version will include quality of life features, such as auto-saves and a smoother weapon switching, which promises to significantly enhance the gaming experience. This is a relief for fans of the saga, especially after the series was difficult to access on PlayStation 2 consoles. The arrival of these games on Steam will not only make access easier but will also increase the library of available titles, doubling the number of Onimusha games on the platform compared to the original release six years ago.

Eshiro also shared his personal connection to the game, mentioning his desire for everyone to explore the world of Onimusha. The development and dedication he has put into the project are evident, and he adds that the experience of being in charge of the first game has left a special mark on him. Fans won’t have to wait long to experience these changes, as pre-orders are already available on Steam.

With the announcement of Hell mode and improvements in the remastering, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny promises an exciting return for veterans of the series and a great opportunity for new players, especially those familiar with soulslike-style games.

SteamOS can now be used on devices that are not from Valve

Valve recently announced during CES in Las Vegas its intention to expand SteamOS beyond the Steam Deck, starting with the Lenovo Legion Go S handheld console. Version 3.7.0 of SteamOS marks a significant milestone, as it initiates support for handheld devices that are not Steam Deck, although not all current machines are eligible for this update.

A huge breakthrough for Valve’s operating system

This development is part of Valve’s strategy to compete in the growing market of portable consoles, where industry giants like Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft also feature. Gabe Newell’s company has acknowledged that other manufacturers have shown a clear interest in this hardware segment, leading to the need to expand its ecosystem. In this regard, Lenovo and Asus have emerged as the main collaborators in the evolution of these devices, being the two brands that have most promoted the handheld PCs category in the last two years.

Although the full implementation of support for non-Steam Deck devices is expected in May, coinciding with the launch of the Lenovo Legion Go S, the groundwork has already begun with the recent SteamOS update. This new version suggests that compatibility adjustments have been made for various models, although users of devices like the Asus ROG Ally will not be able to use this version to install the operating system yet. However, Valve has already started to integrate support for functionalities of these devices, as previously mentioned with the extra buttons of the ROG Ally.

In addition, until this support is finalized, players have an alternative in Bazzite, a solution that offers a similar experience to the Steam Deck without the need for Windows 11. With this expansion, Valve aims not only to diversify its hardware but also to emulate the success of the Steam Deck in the competitive world of portable consoles. And perhaps, reach desktop computers.

Rise of the Ronin is causing more and more problems on PC

The problems continue for Rise of the Ronin following its recent release on Steam. Just days after its launch, numerous players have reported the loss of their save data, which has generated intense frustration within the community. Koei Tecmo has acknowledged the situation and is thoroughly investigating the issue, assuring that they are working on solutions.

Save your game in every possible way

In an official statement, the company mentioned that they are analyzing the reports of data deletion and suggested certain steps to follow to avoid further inconveniences. Among the recommendations are correcting possible conflicts with file sharing services, such as Dropbox, and restoring data from backups, as well as ensuring that the Steam Cloud feature is enabled. However, some players have pointed out that even their local saves have disappeared, making the failure a more significant issue.

The list of inconveniences is compounded by the performance issues faced by the PC version of the title. Players have expressed their dissatisfaction with the low frame rates and unsatisfactory graphics, compared to what Koei Tecmo had previously promised, which included 8K resolutions and 120 FPS. Currently, the recommendation to limit the FPS to 60 only increases the disappointment among those who were expecting a more solid performance. Despite the inconveniences, Rise of the Ronin is still considered an entertaining game by many.

Specialized critics have also expressed their opinion on the matter; Joe Donnelly, reviewer for PC Gamer, highlighted the inconsistency in performance, mentioning that the FPS rates fluctuate alarmingly. As Koei Tecmo works on a patch to improve performance, players should take additional precautions, ensuring they manually save and check the backup of their files to avoid losing hours of progress.

The Final Fantasy franchise has reached a monumental milestone by surpassing 200 million copies sold worldwide, according to an official statement from Square Enix. This achievement coincides with the success of the Pixel Remaster series, which has sold over 5 million copies since its launch, thus consolidating the enduring popularity of the saga that began in 1987 with the first game. Through a post on their official Twitter account, Square Enix celebrated this progress and thanked players for their support in the various adventures offered over the years.

Dizzying numbers for any other Japanese franchise

Among the most recent releases are Final Fantasy XVI, launched in 2023, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which has not only been a sales success but has also set a record for concurrent players on Steam. This performance highlights the ongoing relevance of the franchise, especially in a competitive market where other series like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter have amassed impressive numbers, although they still fall short of the figures for Call of Duty, which has sold over 500 million copies.

The Pixel Remaster series, which includes the first six main games of the franchise, was initially released on PC and mobile devices in 2021, later arriving on consoles like Nintendo Switch and PS4 in 2023, and on Xbox Series X and Series S in 2024. A version for Xbox is expected to launch in 2024, in line with Square Enix’s recent promise to offer more titles for this platform following the success of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox Series X and S.

Despite the recent successes, Square Enix had indicated in September that both Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI had not met initial sales expectations. However, the success of the franchise suggests that its legacy in the world of video games is stronger than ever.

Balatro, the acclaimed card game that was nominated for Game of the Year at the recent The Game Awards 2024, has achieved remarkable success on PC and is preparing for its arrival on Xbox. This title has captured the attention of the gaming community, fostering an active environment that not only enjoys the game but is also dedicated to the development of mods and additional content.

Nintendo DS, you gave us great moments and we still remember you a lot

One of the most surprising news is the emergence of an experimental mod that allows you to play Balatro on an old Nintendo DS, a device that stopped receiving support over a decade ago. How long has it been since you used it? Although the mod does not offer a complete experience and has limitations regarding cards and game mechanics, it represents a first step towards the possible adaptation of the game on this console. Interested parties can find this mod on GitHub, where enthusiasts are invited to explore the possibilities of their old machine.

The community’s effort has been essential to keep the interest in Balatro alive, which in recent days has received updates that introduce new cards and customizations related to other popular games and sagas. These additions not only enrich the gaming experience but also pave the way for future collaborations and promotions, promising a prosperous outlook for the developing studio.

With the ongoing success of Balatro, it is expected that the studio behind the game will be able to finance new projects, allowing this creative journey to continue in the future. The combination of a dedicated player base and active development suggests that Balatro is not only a triumph at this moment but may also be the beginning of something even greater in the universe of video games.

Capcom registers the Dino Crisis trademark in Japan

Capcom has submitted a new trademark application for Dino Crisis on March 4, which has rekindled hopes among fans of the iconic horror franchise. However, the renewed interest from the developer may not be as significant as many followers would wish. Since Shinji Mikami directed the original game in the 90s, Capcom has renewed the trademark several times, with the last approval in 2021, granting it validity for another decade.

There is no place for Dino Crisis in the current Capcom

Despite the fact that there have been no new releases of Dino Crisis in over 20 years, the recent request has sparked speculation about the possibility of a new game. However, Mikami has expressed his surprise at the fans’ desire for a new installment, arguing that the popularity of the Monster Hunter series has filled the gap in the realm of dinosaur games. “The wonder of dinosaurs and the things you can do with them have really been dominated by Monster Hunter in recent years,” Mikami stated, suggesting that this phenomenon limits the space for a new Dino Crisis.

Monster Hunter Wilds, which has been a resounding success even before its release, seems to reinforce Mikami’s argument, by demonstrating that the audience has found in this series a satisfying alternative to the classic horror represented in Dino Crisis. With the growing popularity of games like Monster Hunter, the question remains: is there really a genuine interest and a viable market for a new installment of Dino Crisis?

Therefore, while fans may feed on renewed hope after the trademark request, reality suggests that any new development may not materialize in the short term. Will the Dino Crisis saga regain its status and generate a new wave of enthusiasm, or has its time come to remain in the corners of nostalgia? For now, what is certain is that we can play the first two on PC.

Ubisoft has shared details about the performance modes for its upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which will be released on March 20, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. According to an article published on the official PlayStation blog, the game will offer three display modes on the PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles: performance, fidelity, and balanced, all with upscaled 4K resolution.

A performance that is not too impressive even on PS5 Pro

In terms of frame rates, players can expect 60 fps in performance mode, 30 fps in fidelity mode, and 40 fps in balanced mode, the latter specifically designed for screens that support variable refresh rate and HDMI 2.1. These specifications aim to provide users with customized options to enjoy the game according to their preferences and available hardware.

One of the most notable features of the game is the use of ray tracing. In the performance mode of the PS5, ‘selective’ ray tracing will be applied, which limits global illumination to the Hideout, the game’s base of operations. In contrast, the PS5 Pro will offer ‘extended ray tracing’ in the fidelity and balanced modes, which will include full ray tracing support to calculate global illumination, covering both diffuse lighting and reflective surfaces throughout the entire game world.

However, it is still unclear whether players will be able to completely disable ray tracing to improve performance in the different game modes. Although ray tracing provides an interesting visual experience, many players would prefer to have a more solid performance base.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows aims to provide a visually rich experience, standing out for how it will leverage the hardware of the new generation. With its imminent release, the anticipation to see how these features develop continues to grow.

Players will be able to purchase it through platforms like Steam, Epic Game Store, and GOG.

Dino Crisis, but with a perspective closer to Jurassic Park

Inspired by the gameplay of classics like Dino Crisis and the first-person perspective of Far Cry, The Lost Wild promises to be a true spiritual successor to the Capcom game that fans have longed for years. The title focuses on survival and exploration, where direct confrontation with the fierce dinosaurs that inhabit its world is discouraged. Instead, players will need to use their wits, the environment, and fire to scare away these creatures while gathering vital resources for their survival.

Since its first trailer released a couple of years ago, information about the game has been limited, which has increased the intrigue surrounding its development. However, the team at Great Ape Games has made it clear that their intention is to provide an immersive experience that rewards planning and strategy. As players delve deeper into the jungle, they will encounter increasingly larger threats, adding a level of challenge to exploration and resource gathering.

The plans for next-generation console versions are on the team’s roadmap, but their realization will depend on the moderate success achieved by the PC version. For now, genre fans can prepare for what could become one of the standout titles of next year, marking a return to the roots of survival horror with a fresh and contemporary approach.

Starfield has one of the best narratives in video game history, according to the creator of God of War

Since its launch, Starfield, Bethesda’s latest space RPG, has sparked intense discussions among players. While some consider it an ambitious masterpiece that transforms storytelling in video games, others do not hold back in their criticism, especially regarding its exploration elements. In fact, its rating on Steam has been labeled as ‘mixed’, making it the lowest-rated title from Bethesda on this platform, even below games like Fallout 76.

The renowned developer David Jaffe, known for being the creator of God of War and Twisted Metal, has openly expressed his support for the game. Jaffe has gone so far as to describe Starfield as having “one of the best single-player narratives in the history of video games”, stating: “There’s nothing to hate. I love this game; perhaps the best, in my opinion,” according to recent statements. Despite his enthusiasm, many players have reacted against his opinions, pointing out that they do not share the same positive experience.

A man in love with a game

The controversy intensified when Jaffe, in May 2022, criticized Microsoft’s decision to delay the game’s release. However, a year later, he seems to have changed his mind, praising Starfield as “the best singleplayer I’ve ever played,” inviting players not to let console rivalries overshadow a title that, according to him, offers an outstanding gaming experience. “I only completed the main story and touched a bit of the side quests,” he added, suggesting to those who are undecided to try the game through Game Pass.

As opinions on Starfield intensify, it is clear that Bethesda has managed to generate significant fervor in the gaming community, making it one of the most discussed releases in recent years.
