Wizards of the Coast is working on the fourth installment of Baldur's Gate, although you shouldn't wait behind the developers of the third one

Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that it is working on a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3, but clearly, this new installment will not be related to the game developed by Larian Studios. Instead, the new project will be developed by Giant Skull, a studio led by Stig Asmussen, known for his work at Respawn Entertainment. Asmussen and his team are focused on creating a distinct action game, rather than continuing the Baldur’s Gate saga.

Larian is up to their things

John Hight, president of Wizards of the Coast, expressed his enthusiasm by stating that Baldur’s Gate is an incredible title and that it is natural to continue its legacy. However, the new game is designed to appeal to both Dungeons & Dragons players and fans of action games like God of War and the Jedi franchises. “We are trying to provide an experience that not only resonates with Dungeons & Dragons fans but is also accessible to action lovers,” Hight said.

Wizards of the Coast is in no rush to release this sequel and is planning several other Dungeons & Dragons titles for the next five years. According to Eugene Evans from Hasbro, the company is willing to take its time to find the right partner to continue the legacy of Baldur’s Gate. Meanwhile, Larian Studios, which achieved great success with Baldur’s Gate 3, is working on a completely different project called Excalibur, and will not return to Dungeons & Dragons in the short term. Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian, commented that while they considered developing Baldur’s Gate 4, they did not want to “repeat” what had already been done.

The new Battlefield is being tested by a group with thousands of hours of gameplay behind them

Electronic Arts has decided to focus its attention on player feedback to develop the next title in the acclaimed Battlefield franchise. As stated by EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, this is the “largest testing initiative in the history of the franchise,” an effort aimed at restoring the community’s trust after the criticism received for Battlefield 2042.

Wilson revealed that a core group of testers has played thousands of hours of the new game, focusing especially on the complaints that arose during the launch of its predecessor. “We have always worked closely with the community, but not always as we should have,” he stated, emphasizing EA’s commitment to involving players in crucial aspects such as map building and game progression.

This new title, still without a definitive name, will be the first Battlefield game under the direction of Vince Zampella, co-founder of Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment. For this project, EA has brought together several studios, including Ripple Effect, which is developing a new experience in Battlefield, and Motive, known for titles like the remake of Dead Space and Star Wars: Squadrons, which will focus on the single-player mode.

Despite the criticism that Battlefield 2042 received, the anticipation for this new title is palpable. Wilson hinted that the game will be the “biggest” in the franchise, although he detailed that this does not necessarily refer to the size of the maps or the number of players, but possibly to the significant investment that has been made in its development. EA plans to open its testing program, known as Battlefield Labs, to more players as the game’s reveal scheduled for summer approaches, thus maintaining an active channel of communication with the gaming community.

This game will be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it has been confirmed that it will be a single-player focused experience.

Jedis, droids, and Mandalorians

The first gameplay reveal will take place on April 19 during the Star Wars Celebration. Although the developers have not provided many additional details about the gameplay, a key piece of art has been shown that includes a varied representation of Jedi, Droids, and Mandalorians. This diversity of characters suggests that there could be different playable classes, which is an appealing element for fans of tactical role-playing games.

Bit Reactor, the studio behind the development, was founded by former developers of the acclaimed XCOM series, which brings great expectations regarding the quality of game design and tactical mechanics. Recently, rumors emerged that Star Wars Zero Company, previously known internally as Project Bruno, may have had leaked images dating back over a year. While those rumors may provide hints about the game’s evolution, there is still no official confirmation regarding those images.

In addition to Star Wars Zero Company, the Star Wars universe is constantly expanding, with several other projects in development. Among them is the highly anticipated remake of Knights of the Old Republic by Saber Interactive and Star Wars: Eclipse, a title by Quantic Dream. It is also mentioned that Skydance New Media is working on an unannounced project, directed by the well-known Amy Hennig. This demonstrates that interest in the franchise continues to grow, thus fueling fans’ anticipation for new adventures in the galaxy far, far away.

Respawn Entertainment has made the difficult decision to cancel an unannounced video game that an internal team was working on. The news was confirmed by Emilee Evans, former production coordinator of the studio, who shared her experience on LinkedIn before the post was deleted. While details about the title are scarce, it is known that it was a first-person multiplayer shooter. This announcement has sparked speculation about a possible connection to the popular Titanfall franchise, especially given the strong interest the gaming community has in a hypothetical Titanfall 3.

A franchise buried despite its cult status

Since its release, Titanfall 2 has been acclaimed for both its addictive gameplay and a memorable campaign, leading fans to insistently request a sequel. The presence of Apex Legends, a battle royale set in the same universe, has fueled this desire, although rumors suggest that the canceled game might have been a spin-off rather than a direct continuation of the saga. The gaming community is eager for new installments, although Respawn has not officially confirmed any new projects.

The situation at Respawn is not isolated; in the past, Electronic Arts canceled a promising game based on The Mandalorian that was to be developed by the Titanfall team. This decision resulted in a massive layoff of 670 employees, impacting 5% of the company and leading to changes in EA’s development policies. Since then, the company has expressed its intention to distance itself from future developments of licensed IPs that do not offer a clear prospect of success.

With the cancellation of this latest project, fans are wondering about the future of Respawn and if they will ever see a sequel to Titanfall. Although the possibility of new developments remains up in the air, the community continues to fervently support the studio.
