It was released in Japan in July 2012, in North America in October 2013, and in PAL regions in December 2014. So, it’s almost old enough to go to the park with friends on its own.

Osamu Tezuka’s Unwavering Spirit: Working Till the End on his Deathbed

On February 9, 1989, the god of manga left us forever. Osamu Tezuka, who started creating his own stories professionally in 1945, never stopped working until the very moment of his death. He left “Ludwig B” unfinished, a fictionalized biography of Beethoven. Behind him, he left 700 different titles and around 60 animes, totaling 150,000 pages. Doing a quick calculation, that’s about ten pages per day throughout his entire life. And he still wanted to do more.

It is curious that Tezuka drew inspiration from Disney films to add more expressiveness to his designs because later on, it was the American company that “got inspired” (to put it mildly, shamelessly copied) one of his works, ‘Kimba the White Lion’. From Kimba to Simba, they didn’t put much thought into it.

Before Rumiko Takahashi, Eiichiro Oda, Clamp, or Tite Kubo, there was Tezuka, who always refused to confine himself to a single genre. He created shonen (manga for boys), seinen (for adult readers), and shojo (his unforgettable ‘Princess Knight’). Although he enjoyed creating, he had so many ongoing projects that he often escaped from editors to have a peaceful drink.

Tezuka’s life was filled with paradoxes and coincidences. He started his adult life by obtaining a medical degree, and his career as a mangaka was built on a work about medicine (the fantastic ‘Black Jack’). Finally, his last words were spoken to a nurse. It is said that when he was lying in bed, suffering from terminal stomach cancer, a professional removed his drawing equipment.

“Please, let me work!” were the last words spoken by the god of manga at the age of 60, knowing that he still had many more stories to tell. His legacy continues to this day with works like ‘Pluto,’ which presents ‘Astroboy’ from a modern perspective. But perhaps the most intriguing aspect of his posthumous career was the discovery made by his daughter. In 1994, five years after his death, she opened a drawer that had remained closed since then.

Inside, she found a half-eaten ounce of chocolate, an essay about Katsuhiro Otomo and his work on ‘Akira,’ various sketches… and a significant number of erotic drawings featuring anthropomorphic animals. Frankly, even forty more years would have been too few for Tezuka.

The Hidden Dangers: A Deep Dive into the Android App That Secretly Spied on Users

An ESET investigation found malicious code in a popular Android app that had been hosted on Google Play for more than a year.

A widely held belief among users is that Google Play, Google’s app store, typically maintains a minimum level of security and prevents criminals from uploading malicious apps. While the security of the virtual store has been questioned on occasion, and we can find countless clone apps of ChatGPT, it is not very common to come across apps that contain malware.

It is not very common, but every now and then, one manages to slip through. TechCrunch has reported on an investigation by ESET, which claims that the app “iRecorder – Screen Recorder” was spying on its users. What is most striking about this case is that the app enjoyed great popularity and had been on Google Play for a year already.

According to Lukas Stefanko, a security researcher at ESET, the app initially did not contain any malicious functions when it was first uploaded to Google Play. The malicious code was inserted in a recent update, allowing the app to record audio for one minute every 15 minutes and extract documents, web pages, and media files from the devices where it was installed. All of this was done without the user’s knowledge.

This type of malware is categorized as AhRat by ESET and is a customized version of an open-source remote access Trojan called AhMyth. Such trojans take advantage of their broad access to the victim’s device, having various permissions, and the ability to remotely control the infected devices.

Currently, it is unknown who installed the malicious code in the app’s update, which has already been removed from Google Play. It could have been the developer himself, “Coffeeholic Dev,” but it could also have been a third party who gained access to the developer’s account.

Spain’s Interior Ministry clarifies its position on the end-to-end encryption ban

The Spanish Ministry of the Interior has responded to Maldita.es about its position on the alleged ban on end-to-end encryption.

A few days ago, we echoed a publication by WIRED that reported on a proposal from Spain to end end-to-end encryption. The alleged proposal from our country was part of an initiative by several European Union states aimed at finding a way to “spy” on networks that employ this encryption in order to prevent the spread of child pornography.

Among all the proposals outlined in the alleged leaked document, put forth by around twenty EU countries, Spain’s position was the most radical, showing a willingness to prohibit companies from implementing end-to-end encryption in their apps. Some experts considered this approach “disproportionate” and “ineffective in achieving the goal of protecting children.”

To clarify this situation, the website Maldita.es, which fights against misinformation in media and social networks, contacted the Spanish Ministry of the Interior headed by Fernando Grande-Marlaska. The response received by the outlet from the ministry was that the information regarding the intention to ban end-to-end encryption did not come from them. The Ministry of the Interior also insists that their stance is that “communication, whether encrypted or not, cannot be intercepted without a judicial order.”

While the real stance of Spain is clarified regarding this situation, the ministry does not clearly state its proposal regarding this European initiative. The dilemma posed by end-to-end encrypted networks (such as those used by WhatsApp, Telegram, or Messenger) is that, being 100% private (even for the companies themselves), they can also be used to share illegal content, such as child pornography or terrorist material.

According to the alleged leaked document, other countries proposed measures that involved the possibility of installing backdoors or some system that would allow intervention with a judicial order, but this would completely undermine the privacy of end-to-end encrypted networks and have highly negative moral implications for citizens.
