What is the mysterious object that this Chinese spacecraft has left in orbit?

Mystery once again surrounds a Chinese spacecraft after releasing an unidentified object into orbit. The United States Space Force is currently tracking this object, which apparently was released on May 24th around 22:00 hours (Spanish peninsular time).

Jonathan McDowell, an astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, reported on this event on Twitter, stating that “this object could be the deployment of a subsatellite, or it could be a piece of hardware ejected before the end of the mission and put into orbit“. McDowell also added that “it will be interesting to see if the plane maneuvers or lands soon”.

Spaceplanes are hybrids between airplanes and spacecraft, and they are launched into space by rockets. They operate as spacecraft in orbit and as normal airplanes when reentering the Earth’s atmosphere. If successful, they could become valuable reusable spacecraft, in a context where the number of satellite launches and other space missions is increasing.

The Chinese space plane was launched on December 14th aboard a Long March 2F carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Launch Center in China. In this mission, the vehicle initially deployed six objects emitting various signals. The recent release of this unidentified object could be an indication that the spacecraft is preparing to return to Earth after 164 days in orbit.

This spacecraft is a project of the Chinese Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, a state entity that manufactures launch vehicles for both civilian and military uses. Its inaugural flight took place in 2020, remaining in orbit for only two days before landing. On its second mission, it took off in August 2022 and spent 276 days in orbit.

During its previous missions, the spacecraft has put other mysterious objects into orbit without revealing their purposes. China has kept the development of this reusable spacecraft a secret, sharing little information about it. According to the Chinese state media Xinhuanet, “after operating in orbit for a period of time, the experimental spacecraft will return to the designated landing site in China” and during this time “it will carry out reusable technology verification and space science experiments as planned, providing technical support for the peaceful use of space”.

It is nothing more than a series of brief vignettes that serve as preparation for the next interactive section, and then they drop you off to find the stone you are looking for, at which point you learn a new skill that you may or may not use again later. Sony backtracks and withdraws its interview with Neil Druckmann

Sony has shown why journalism is necessary by conducting an interview with Neil Druckmann that has angered the American creative.

It’s easy to underestimate the work of journalists. Anyone can make news or an interview, write a text, many people think. What they don’t know is that, beyond what is written —and whether it is liked or not—, there is a whole work behind to ensure the quality of what is published. Something that, when there is no journalistic ethics behind, has consequences.

Recently, Sony published an interview with Neil Druckmann, creator of The Last of Us and executive producer of Uncharted. In this interview, he made some quite inflammatory statements. He claimed that his next game would redefine the perception of video games in the mainstream and that generative AI was the future, which didn’t sit well with a certain sector of players. And not without reason.

That’s why, shortly after being published, Druckmann made a series of comments on his Twitter. Stating that his answers had been edited and manipulated, much of what the interview said had not come out of his mouth. Something that caused an even bigger uproar, for obvious reasons. Leading Sony to decide to withdraw the interview.

Although the most inflammatory were the mentions of AI, and Druckmann has not corrected this at any time, this only demonstrates the need for journalism. Because a corporate interview, for whatever reason, only shares the interests of corporations. And that is something that Druckmann has learned the hard way.

The United States arrests one of the alleged responsible individuals behind a botnet that infected millions of IPs

The United States has arrested YunHe Wang this week, a 35-year-old Chinese citizen who is accused of being one of the masterminds behind a massive botnet that facilitated cyberattacks and fraud worldwide. Wang allegedly helped run this international network, known as 911 S5, which infected over 19 million IP addresses in nearly 200 countries through VPN programs like MaskVPN and DewVPN.

According to the United States Department of Justice, after distributing the malware, Wang operated the botnet and sold access to compromised IP addresses to third parties. His clients, taking advantage of the proxy addresses, committed all kinds of crimes, including “cyberattacks, large-scale fraud, child exploitation, harassment, bomb threats, and violations of export regulations,” according to Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The United States worked with several international partners to dismantle the operation. Matthew S. Axelrod, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, highlighted that the network sold access “to millions of computers infected with malware worldwide”, allowing criminals to steal billions of dollars and commit other serious crimes.

The operation generated illicit profits estimated at 100 million dollars, allegedly used to purchase luxury cars, watches, and real estate properties. Among the crimes committed with the compromised computers is the scam of pandemic victim assistance programs, with around 560,000 fraudulent insurance claims resulting in over 5.9 billion dollars in fraudulent losses.

The United States Department of the Treasury has announced sanctions against Wang and two other Chinese citizens, prohibiting transactions with them or their designated organizations. Wang faces a maximum sentence of 65 years in prison if convicted of all charges, including substantive computer fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
